"Hmm maybe I can move this" Arkyn said as he went to move a stone but barely made it budge.
"Ugh, it's too heavy.." He said with a disappointing tone.
There was no way out unless he climbed up the rocky walls but that frightened him When suddenly he saw something fly over him making him flintch and hide. He's been seeing the shadow a few times but it never came down until today. It made a big growling sound, Arkyn was scared to look over when suddenly he thought to himself what if it was a dragon?
His eyes grew big and slowly looked over the rock he was behind. He could see it was a dark creature it moved cautiously as it tried looking for fish in the pond that was there. Arkyn slowly went to get a better look when a pebbal slipped catching the creatures attention and fear quickly over powered Arkyn.
"Oh no" He whispered to himself.
The dragon quickly went from calm to alert, grey spikes came out of his wings and the dragons wings suddenly separated into two more. He began to show his teeth as he made his way to Arkyns direction. Arkyns bottom lip began to quiver as he slowly walked backwards, it was the scariest thing he has ever seen. He stumbled on a rock near him making him fall to the ground and into the open where the monster could see him clearly, he finally started crying of fear and it was like that was the dragons queue so it started running towards Arkyn, opening its mouth but before it was even a few feet away a purple blast of light came from above, crashing to the growned in between Arkyn and the deadly dragon. The big bad dragon suddenly shrunk into its self from fear of what was coming. Arkyn wiped his tears away and that's when he saw him.
"It's him.." Arkyn whispered to himself as he admired the dragon he once saw.
It was toothless. He was standing in a Alpha position ready to fight the dragon with his angry bright green eyes but every dragon knew he was in charge so the monster quickly flew away avoiding a fight.
Arkyn was amazed and stood up in relief but then Toothless looked over at him with the same angry eyes and Akryn realized this dragon doesn't know who he is, what if he tries to attack him? But for some reason Toothless didn't scare Arkyn instead he had an urge to touch him, a curiosity, a weird feeling of comfort.
Toothless slowly got closer and Arkyn did the same which confused toothless this was not the usual behavior he got from humans. Then suddenly Arkyn reached out his hand to touch toothless and looked away. This threw Toothless completely off making him perk up, there was only one person in the world who ever did that, who didn't judge him at first glance, who trusted him. Hiccup. Toothless took a step back and also noticed the little boy looked exactly like Hiccup, except for...the blue eyes, Meridas eyes! Could it be? Toothless began to sniff Arkyn which made Arkyn confused.
"Um I don't have snacks, um."
Arkyn began to dump out his little bag slowly infront of Toothless.
"See...it's just my stuff...I'm sorry"
Then something caught Toothless attention. Arkyns crest, it was just like Hiccups, no, not just like it, it was his crest...Arkyns crest!
Toothless started to jump around in joy it was him it was Arkyn! Arkyn was so thrown off by toothless's behavior but then began to smile and laugh, toothless then pushed the crest closer to Arkyn so he could know why he was so happy.
"My necklace? You-you know this?" Arkyn asked Toothless.
Toothless nodded, which made Arkyn finally realize something...Toothless must know his dad.
"Do you...know my dad...?" Arkyn said with hope in his voice as he stood up with his crest in his tiny hands.
Toothless began to jump around again and nodded. Making Arkyn tear up in happiness.
Suddenly Toothless stoped jumping and began to lick Arkyns tears away to cheer him up. It made Arkyn laugh and he was finally able to touch toothless, Toothless gave out a low pur finally feeling his best friends touch again even though Arkyn didn't remember him Toothless didn't care, all he cared was he finally found him and he was excited to show Hiccup and Merida and how happy they will be that he's finally home.
"I wish I could keep you" Arkyn said softly to toothless as he petted him.
Little did Arkyn know Toothless was his.
Meanwhile at the castle of dunbroch there was a feast going on for the lords, the dining hall was roaring with chit chat and singing. Hiccup was amongst them as he played a shooting arrow game that was on the wall almost like darts, trying to keep his mind occupied. He kept hinting the target which made some of the lords nervous while others watched with admiration and some of the crew jealous.
"Ye got one hell of an aim my king" one of the lords said to hiccup as he raised a toast to him.
"I, just don't let the queen hear ya ey, she'll put an arrow right through ya hahaha" another lord teased making the other one nervous.
Hiccup chuckled as he heard the side comments and grabbed his next arrow.
"I appreciate the compliment, thank you" Hiccup replied.
"So what's going to happen next my king? With thee search..?" Asked another lord.
"I haven't made a decision yet."
"If it wasn't for that damn king of Carona we could had kept searchin'!" A lord yelled out.
"I, we could have kept goin' and found the prince!" Another lord agreed.
"Ye all act like we didn't search everywhere we could have!" A third lord argued.
The argument kept roaring around the room but Hiccup blocked it out and kept shooting at the target then going to remove the arrows and doing it again. Merida was upstairs looking down at the whole thing watching hiccup.
Elinor then came over to stand by her.
"Ye gonna go talk to him lass?"
"There's nothing to talk about..."
"Hm, what do ya think is on his mind right now?"
"I don't know and I don't want to know."
"Merida Dunbroch, I taught yeu better than this. Don't let yer pride get in between you both. Enough with this nonsense. Do ye love that boy with all yer heart or not?"
"Yes..."
"Then speak to him, don't push him away."
Suddenly hiccup did something that made the whole room quiet. He hit his arrow at the huge stuffed bear in the room. Interupting Elinor and Merida, Elinor had a worried look on her face while Merida had no emotion what so ever she just looked her husband waiting to see his next move. You could hear a pin drop of how quiet it was. Hiccup slammed his bow on the table and went over to a lord at a far table. Some looked terrified, others looked away. Hiccup went over to a lord who tried to not show his fear taking a sip of his drink and avoiding hiccups eyes. Hiccup got close to him then hunched down to his level and said in a soft but angry voice.
"My son is not dead... He is out there fighting for his life but if you want to think that you can walk out right now because that makes you dead to me. You're lucky that bear was there."
The lord swallowed not knowing what to say. Then hiccup stood up and walked out of the hall.
Elinor and Merida couldn't hear anything he said but it worried Merida because she had never seen Hiccup act that way. That wasn't him. So she calmly went to go follow him, her mother was right maybe she didn't know the pain he was carrying. This was a darker side of Hiccup. It was as though he was losing who he was.
Elinor smiled to herself seeing Merida go after Hiccup. He went outside to back of the castle taking a breath of fresh air as he closed his eyes trying to calm down. A tear escaped his eyes but he was suddenly conforted by someone wrapping their arms around his torso behind him as they rested their head on his back, he didn't have to look back because it was the only touch he wanted, he needed.
"Keep breathin' I'm here, yer okay" She told him.
He did as she asked and she could hear his heart beat and breathing slowly calm down going back to its normal pace. She planted a kiss on his shoulder as a proud gesture. After Hiccup was finally calm he turned around to face his wife. And without a words hugged her tightly. Merida was surprised. And that's when she realized Hiccup isn't a hero, he has to pretend, under all that tough heroic stuff he's just...Hiccup.
Merida rubbed his back comforting him then gave him another kiss on his head.
"Let's take a walk" She whispered to him.
Hiccup finally let go and nodded. He took her hand into his and they walked into the night.
They were both quiet at first but Merida could careless, she was just happy to be near Hiccup again, while Hiccup was more pensive, like if he was trying to figure out what to say. Merida noticed this and before he spoke she kissed him making him melt into her kiss. She wrapped her arm around his neck, he broke the kiss before it got any more intense. Merida looked at him in worry.
"What if..." Hiccup began.
"What if what?" Merida replied.
Hiccup looked into Meridas blue eyes and sighed. He thought of how stubborn and fearless she was, how she never backed down from anything and remembered that shes Arkyns mother. On that thought relief brushed over him, he knew Arkyn would be okay.
"Hiccup?" Merida asked confused.
"I'll replace the bear" Hiccup replied with shameful expression.
Merida let out a small laugh and shook her head as she backed away from him.
"I know the bear isn't the problem. Ye were pretty worked up back there." Merida replied with a concern look as she twiddled her fingers.
"Yeah, I'm sorry" He replied sheepishly.
"Ye should have seen everybody though, never seen them so scared in ma whole life" She giggled as she cupped her mouth.
Hiccup gave her a half smile at that comment then said.
"Yeah...that's not really the rep I want 'cause you know the whole Viking thing."
"The whole Viking thing is the reason they respect ya."
"Yeah...right..." Hiccup said as he began to walk.
Merida stopped him by putting her hand on his chest then pushing him infront of her.
"Yer impossible Ye know that haddock" She said angrily as she tried to walk away.
But before she could Hiccup grabbed her by her waist with one hand aggressively pulling her towards him. This startled Merida upsetting her even more so she scowled at him as she put her hands on his chest ready to push him off but once her hands were on his chest she hesitated making her hands into a balls of fists.
Hiccup was holding her tightly so she wouldn't try to escape. He looked down at her scowling at him. Back then he could never tell when she was really angry from fruaterated where he could settle her down but now he knew. He began to close the distance between his lips and hers.
"Hiccup..." Merida said in a soft voice.
Instead of replying he crashed his lips into hers, a few seconds when by before hiccup broke the kiss but before his lips got any distance away from Merida she wrapped her hands around his neck as intensly as he did to her. Hiccup smiled into the kiss at the gesture. Meridas hands brushed through hiccups hair as he pulled her dress up a tad. Merida giggled breaking the kiss. Then looked around making sure no one could see them then back at hiccup who kept kissing her jawline.
"Someone is going to see." Merida giggled again.
Hiccup chuckled a little at her bashful moment.
He stopped kissing her but didn't let go of the grip.
"You know..." Hiccup began.
Merida moved a stand of hair from hiccups forehead to show she was listening.
"I doubted myself for the first time today..."
Meridas expression became synthetic.
"I felt...like my old self again, the kid who was afraid of everything and anything. I couldn't even do a simple thing right..."
Hiccup finally said loosening his tight grip on Merida as he looked away. Merida grabbed his arms and pulled them about her again and said,
"But that's the hiccup I fell in love with. Ye don't remember but I do, he use to fumble and get all nervous when he was around me." She said letting out a small chuckle.
"He taught me how to fly a DRAGON, but most importantly he taught me how to love ma self, and I will forever love him."
Hiccups eyes began to water but he chuckled and blinked to prevent any tears from coming down.
"Arkyn is just.." Hiccup began but was cut off
"Arkyn is his daddy's son, he has both your weakness and strength. It's in his DNA hiccup, I think we forget that sometimes" She said including herself in that guilt.
"You're right" Hiccup said giving Merida one last kiss on her lips.
"I love you Merida Dunbroch" Hiccup said happily.
Merida gave him a mischievous smile.
Pushing herself away from him. Hiccup gave her a playful smile back.
"I know I know." Hiccup replied.
"I'll see ya back at the castle my dragon prince" She teased walking passed him with her hands behind her.
Hiccup just kept looking at her as she walked away. But was able to catch her arm before she got any further embracing her from behind her. Making Merida giggle. His left cheek brushed up against her firey curls wrapping his arms around her and whispered,
"You're lucky girl you know that."
Merida laughs at his comment.
"Hiccup, come on ye already know."
"Mer, Angus isn't going to like that new sattle " Hiccup said letting her go.
She ran towards the castle yelling.
"A deal is a deal!"
Hiccup shook his head and laughed.
"I knew I should have picked the other one, atheist she's not making me wear that in front of everyone." He said as he followed behind her.
