At Computer Lab
Daichi Misawa sat in the computer lab with his legs folded and hand placed firmly on the mouse as to continuously click the replay button to the video watching Koyo VS Slade duel on the computer screen.
After the video ended, Misawa simply leaned back in his chair and thought the duel between Slade VS Koyo.
"Koyo Hibiki" He said to himself. "How did someone with his dueling talents end up in the Yellow dorm?"
He didn't notice a certain brunette haired Obelisk girl entering the room quietly with her arms folded
"Researching Slade and Koyo's duel huh?" stated the girl, catching Misawa's attention. "How like you".
Misawa turned to face the girl in his chair and greeted her, "Hi Anna".
Anna nodded in reply and lean forward to look at the video on the computer screen while Misawa quickly stood up and took a step back.
"Everyone is totally shock that Slade and Koyo are gonna get expelled". Anna interjected.
The Ra Genius didn't reply straight away and was attempting to stop himself from blushing. "Yeah and I am also the reason they're getting expelled but I am also disappointed about one thing."
Anna stood up and turned to face Misawa.
"I wish I had been the one to break Koyo's winning streak". The Ra finished. He paused for a moment and look at the picture of Koyo celebrating his victory, "I just hope they would get through this expulsion duel".
Anna leant against the desk before answering. "Being the highest ranking member of Ra Yellow and one of the top of your class, how would you analyze Koyo?"
Misawa thought for a moment with his arms crossed. "He is a bit of a jack-off in terms of his deck. His monsters are almost all Elemental Hero monsters, but the species are all over the place. The same goes fot his spell and traps, most are also used to support them."
"But there's that one major factor isn't here?" Anna interrupted.
Misawa nodded. "Indeed". He responded. "His ace up the sleeve is his card drawing capabilities. He has crazy knack for drawing the right card at the right time in nearly every duel. It also gives him the element of surprise."
Anna agreed with a nod of her head. "I know right? No matter how tough a monster or position he is in, one lucky draw and he can turn the tables and win the duel in his favor".
"I envy him". Added Misawa. "He might actually be a genius".
"So" Anna replied. "A cautious analysis by Daichi Misawa concludes that Koyo Hibiki is a genius?"
Misawa shrugged awkwardly. "I guess so. An average guy like me can only study and work hardl"
Anna stood up and began to walk to the door and then stop suddenly when there was a beep from her pocket.
Anna reached into her pocket and pull out her phone.
"Speak of the devil". She noted as she answered it and said, "Hey Koyo, what's up?" before leaving the room.
Misawa was in complete shock as he heard some of the conversation.
"The Battle City DVD?" the Obelisk questioned. "Again? I just leant it to you".
Misawa's mouth had nearly hit the floor from shock and he watched as Anna walked down the hall and out of sight.
"Koyo."... stuttered Misawa. "Called Anna". He tried to regain his composer but finally snapped. "WHY?" He screamed, stunning some students walking by.
At the Courtyard
Misawa was walking around aimlessly, his head lowered and his arms drooping. A large frown was evident across his face.
"How come Koyo knows her number?" He sighed with a groan when he looked up and saw Koyo talking with Chumley over the bench.
"Its him." The Ra stated to himself before rushing towards them. "Koyo".
Koyo and Chumley were slightly stunned by Misawa's sudden appearance but didn't mention it.
"What's up Koyo?" Koyo greeted, still a bit startled.
"Can I ask you something?" Misawa answered quickly.
"Koyo shrugged. "Sure." He responded. "What is it?"
"Did you call Anna a few minutes ago?" Misawa questioned
"Yeah, and why do you ask?"
"I... Was just curious as to how you have her number". Misawa stuttered in reply, trying not to reveal how irritated he had been when he found out Koyo has Anna's number.
"Anna has a lot of reference on dueling that I just got to have and see," Koyo explained, "One time I had her card catalogue and she needed it back right away but couldn't find me."
"She had to come all the way to your dorm". Added Chumley.
"Yeah," continued Koyo. "So we exchange number!"
"I am still a bit confused why you want to know so much?". Stated Koyo.
Misawa stumbled for the right words but heard Koyo's phone beeping and said, "Maybe you should answer that".
Koyo pulled out his phone and looked at it. "A text message from Anna".
"Incredible timing". Added Chumley next to him
Misawa screamed in his mind. "They text each other too!" He thought in a rage. "I can't stand this!".
Koyo didn't seem to notice the look of rage in Misawa's face and simply read the message Anna had sent him.
"Oh no!" He panicked out loud. "She already leant the DVD to someone! How could she do this to me? I feel so betrayed!"
"I happen to have the Battle City DVD". Misawa interrupted, "And the Duelist Kingdom DVD as well".
Both Koyo and Chumley leapt off the bench at the same time thinking, "The ultra, super rate Duelist Kingdom DVD ! Must see it".
"Please let us burrow it!" Koyo began as he and Chumley got on their knees.
Misawa crossed his arms. "Fine! But only if you defeat me!"
Both Koyo and Chumley stood up at the same time and angrily cried, "Come on! Don't be a jerk and hold onto us!"
Misawa laughed to himself. "Here at this academy everything should be decided it settle with a duel". He then grinned. "Or maybe your're afraid I might defeat you."
Koyo quickly got serious. "Me afraid? Never!" He declared and point his index finger at him. "I acccept your challenge".
"Come to think of it", interrupted Chumley to Misawa. "What happens if you win? Do you have something in mind?"
"Off course", Answered the Ra Genius. "If I win, you give me Anna's contact info".
"EXCUSE ME". cried Koyo and Chumley in unison as they held a hand to their right ear each. "YOU WANT WHAT?"
Their sudden loudness had caught a couple of students attention and Misawa waited till they stop looking before whispering, "I just want Anna's number okay".
Koyo and Chumley looked at each other for a moment before laughing their ass off to the point they were almost crying. "You have a crush on her". They both said in unison.
Misawa wrapped his arms around both of their necks and began dragging them away. "We need a place with less people so stop laughing
Duel with Misawa and Koyo
Koyo and Misawa stood across from each other, their Duel Disks activated, their decks shuffled, their first five cards drawn and held in their hands as they stared each other down. Chumley shuddered as he felt a certain tension in the air. Like two vicious beasts were about to tear each other apart. The door to Obelisk Blue Girls dorm opened, Ryo and Ran stepping out before closing the gate behind them. The pair stopped, eyes fixing on the duel about to unfold.
"Are you sure you wann do this?" asked Koyo, "I mean I will just give her number anyway".
"Where is the fun of that?" Misawa replied. "There is no way I will just let you give it to me".
Chumley was watching from the side, still laughing a bit. "If Misawa really had any pride". He thought. "He would ask Anna for it directly".
"I've been waiting for this one," Koyo replied.
"DUEL!" They both exclaimed.
Turn 1 Misawa
"I'll take the first move," Misawa declared, "And I'll start by summoning Oxygeddon to my field!" The wind blew around the pair of duellists as streams of air took the shape of a pale green, gaseous Pteranodon (ATK 1800).
"Next I'll set two cards face down and end my turn." Two face down cards appeared behind Oxygeddon. "Your turn."
Turn 2 Koyo
"Well then, here I go," Koyo declared, drawing his next card, "First, I'll summon the Elemental HERO Prisma!"
A winged humanoid made of glowing azure crystals emerged, rising from the ground and assembling itself (ATK 1700).
"Next I'm gonna use Prisma's Ability; by showing you one of the cards in my Extra Deck and sending one of its materials to the Graveyard, Prisma can get that HERO's name." A card each slid out of Koyo's Extra and Main decks.
"So by showing your my Elemental HERO Rampart Blaster," Koyo explained, showing the Fusion Monster Card, "And sending Elemental HERO Burstinatrix to the graveyard, I can have Prisma count as Elemental HERO Butrstinatrix." As Koyo slid the monster card into his graveyard, Prisma glowed a deep, fiery red, its crystals changing colour accordingly.
"Next I'm gonna use Polymerization to fuse the Prisma-Burstinatrix on my field with the Elemental HERO Clayman in my hand!" A large, rounded, figure of dark brown clay appeared next to Prisma as the Red-Blue Spiral appeared above the field before pulling Prisma and Clayman into it.
"I Fusion Summon…Elemental HERO Rampart Blaster!" From the sprial descended a rounded warrior with a feminine face, carrying a shield on one arm while the other ended in a Missile Launcher (ATK 2000).
"Battle! Rampart Blaster attacks Oxygeddon!" Rampart Blaster pointed her Launcher arm at Oxygeddon as a volley of tiny missiles were launched outwards, striking the gaseous monster before detonating, Miaswa's LP creeping to 3800. "I'll throw a card face down and call it a turn." A face down card appeared behind Rampart Blaster.
Turn 3 Misawa
Misawa smiled. That's a strangely cautious play for Koyo. "My move then," Misawa declared, drawing his next card, "First I'll activate my set card, Call of the Haunted, to revive my Oxygeddon!" Once more the wind blew, once more it coalesced into the form of a Pteranodon.
"Next I'll summon my Hyrdogeddon to join him!" Streams of water fell from the sky, forming into a compact, quadrupedal liquid dinosaur (ATK 1600). "I'll then activate my next set card, Double Summon, which will allow me to call forth a second Hydrogeddon!" A second Hydrogeddon appeared next to the first.
"This…is starting to sound like science class…" Chumley moaned.
Misawa smiled. "Of course," he replied, "I find that every deck has a weakness and that with enough study, that weakness can be found and a suitable counter-strategy developed and deployed." He paused. "I have built numerous decks since we've gotten here, but since I haven't got any firsthand experience with you, Koyo, I thought it best to face you with my favourite; my Chemical Deck." He grinned. "Like I said, this is practice for your explosion duel."
Koyo's grin widened. "Well go ahead and show me why it's your favourite!"
"Gladly," Misawa replied, "I'll now activate the Spell Bonding - H2O! By tributing two Hydrogeddons and one Oxygeddon, I can summon one of my strongest monsters; Water Dragon Cluster!" All three of Misawa's monsters burst apart, rising as pillars of their respective elemental that merged and coalesced into a torrent of water that arched up and over back onto the field before reshaping to resemble a large, two-headed Asiatic dragon (ATK 2800). "Battle! Water Dragon Cluster attacks Rampart Blaster!"
Koyo smirked. "Sorry, Misawa," he stated, "But I'm activating my Trap Card; Zero Gravity!" Koyo's set card flipped up.
"…In that instant, I activate Water Dragon Cluster's effect!" Misawa interjected, "By tributing my Water Dragon Cluster, I can Special Summon Two Water Dragons from my deck in defence position, ignoring their summoning conditions!" The Twin-headed Water Dragon split apart into two separate, serpentine dragons of water, Koyo gasping.
With Anna at Ra Yellow
"Koyo?" called out Anna as she knocked on the door to his room at the Ra Yellow Dorm. "You in there Koyo?" She waited for a moment and when there was no answer she took hold of the doorknob.
"I'm coming in," the Obelisk stated as she turned the knob and opened the door. She peeped in and quickly noticed that the room was deserted.
"He's not here?" she questioned as she looked at the Battle City DVD clutched in her left hand. "Where could he be? I've got the DVD he wanted and I walk all the way over here and he's a no show."
Anna sighed in annoyance and walked over to the balcony. She pulled her phone out of her pocket and punched in Koyo's number. There was no reply.
She groaned in annoyance. "Don't tell me his phone is off too…"
Back To Duel
"…but why is Misawa doing that?" Ran asked.
"…Because of its place in the chain," Chumley replied, Ryo and Ran both looking to the rotund Slifer, "Zero Gravity is a pretty lishus trap card; it flips the battle positions of all face-up monsters on the field, which would've put a stop to Misawa's attack. But since Water Dragon Cluster's effect was activated later in the chain, it resolves first meaning that Koyo's own trap will flip the two Water Dragons into attack position!" True to Chumley's predictions, the Dragons rose, ready to strike (ATK 2800) and Rampart Blaster knelt down, raising her shield (DEF 2500).
Misawa's grin widened. "A good move, Koyo," Misawa mused, "But very obvious, given that Rampart Blaster has higher defence than attack." Koyo groaned lightly before chuckling.
"Now, let's resume; Water Dragon number one shall destroy Rampart Blaster!" The first water dragon released a stream of deadly, high-pressure, water that utterly shattered Rampart Blaster apart. "And now the second Water Dragon attacks you directly!" Koyo yelled as a similar stream stuck him, sending him flying back as his LP plummeted to 1200.
"I now end my turn." He paused. "How was that, Koyo?"
Turn 4 Koyo
For a moment, the Ra Ace student was silent. But then he laughed and leaped to his feet. "That was a Nice move, Misawa," Koyo replied, laughing, "Guess I can't afford to hold back anything! I draw!" Koyo drew his next card.
"I'm activating the spell known as Fusion Recovery!" Koyo declared, "With this, I can grab a Polymerization and a monster I used to Fusion Summon and add them to my hand." Two cards slid out of Koyo's graveyard, with him adding them to his hand. "Now I'll activate the Polymerization I just grabbed to fuse Elemental HERO Burstinatrix and Elemental HERO Ocean in my hand!"
Two monsters appeared above Koyo, a woman in a red leotard and the blue, aquatic hero before both were pulled into a familiar Red-Blue spiral
. "I Fusion Summon…Elemental HERO Sunrise!" The red armored, horned hero descended from the Spiral, his blue cape billowing behind him (ATK 2500).
"And now for his sweet effect; when I Fusion Summon him, I can add a Miracle Fusion from my deck to my hand," a card slid out of Koyo's deck, "And I'm gonna activate it to fuse Rampart Blaster with Clayman!"
The images of Rampart Blaster and Clayman appeared a second time, pulled once more into the Spiral.
"I Fusion Summon…Elemental HERO Gaia!"
A large, bronzed stone hero appeared, his metal cuffed fist slamming into the ground as he fell from the spiral (ATK 2200).
"You've got him, Koyo!" Chumley cheered, "Show him your signature Two HERO Combo!"
Misawa furrowed his brow, knowing what was coming. "Elemental HERO Gaia's effect activates," Koyo continued, "When Gaia is summoned, I can target one of your monsters, halve its attack and have Gaia gain as many attack points as your monster lost!"
One of the Water Dragons whimpered (ATK 2800 - 1400) as Gaia grew larger (ATK 2200 - 3600).
"And let's not forget Sunrise's second effect; For each Elemental HERO that is a different attribute on the field, all my HERO monsters gain 200 attack points!" Gaia (ATK 3600 - 4000) and Sunrise (ATK 2500 - 2900) both glowed.
"Battle!" Koyo declared, "Gaia attacks the weakened Water Dragon!" Gaia charged forward, reaching for the Water Dragon. "And because Gaia is attacking, I can activate Sunrise's third and final effect; when another Elemental HERO monsters attacks, I can destroy one card on your field…so I'm taking out your other Water Dragon!"
A bolt of Sunlight appeared in Sunrise's hand, the HERO flinging it towards the fully powered Water Dragon, the beast dispersing before it.
"When Water Dragon is destroyed and sent to the graveyard," Misawa replied, "It's effect lets me summon two Hyrdrogeddons and one Oxygeddon from my graveyard to my field!" The water that had made up the dragon split into its three elemental components, each taking the shape of the previously tributed dinosaurs.
"They might be back," Koyo stated, "But I won't be worrying about 'em for long! Gaia destroys the other Water Dragon!" Gaia brought a colossal stone fist down, the Water Dragon breaking apart into multiple pools of now inanimate water, Misawa groaning as his LP dropped to 1200.
"And now Sunrise attacks a Hydrogeddon! Go, Brilliant Blaster!" Sunrise held his arms to his left said, his hands forming an orb of sunlight between them before he thrusted both arms forwards, the orb flying from his palms towards a Hydrogeddon, the monster exploding as the orb made contact, Misawa yelling as he was flung backwards, his LP emptying to 0 as the images of the remaining monster vanished.
Aftermath
Misawa sighed. 'I could have won right? Koyo just has dumb luck. No, I can't keep kidding myself. Koyo was a cut above me in this duel, even in the tactics department. It was a complete defeat.'
Koyo disintegrated his duel disl and ran over to Misawa, offering a hand to his opponent, the Ra Genius Student smiling as he accepted it, Koyo helping Misawa to his feet, a smile on both their faces. "That…was a awesome match," Koyo applauded.
"Agreed," Misawa replied, nodding, "I've learned a great deal from this."
"I won," said Koyo. "So now you have to complete your end of the bargain and let me borrow the DVD."
"Yeah, I know," Misawa replied as he sat on the ground and leant his face against his hand. "But you truly do have the luck of the draw. And it's a deadly weapon."
"Hang on," interrupted Anna as she held up the Battle City DVD. "You guys were dueling for this. Koyo I was already going to let you borrow it."
"Actually we were dueling for Misawa's Duelist Kingdom DVD," revealed Koyo.
"Wow!" answered Anna in excitement. "The extremely rare Duelist Kingdom DVD? Can I please borrow it?
Misawa stood up and answered with, "Uh…sure Anna."
"Why don't you guys exchange numbers?" suggested Koyo as he folded his arms. "It saves a lot of time."
"That's a great idea," agreed Anna as she pulled out her mobile and began taking Bastion's number down.
"Koyo" thought Misawa as he looked over to him who was whistling. 'I owe you one.'
"I'll go grab the DVD from my dorm," said Misawa as he began to walk off. "Want to come Anna?"
"Sure, why not," replied the Obelisk as she caught up to Misawa
"Hey, hang on!" interrupted Judai. "I'm first aren't it?"
"No hard feelings Koyo" apologised Misawa. "Ladies first."
"Don't worry Koyo" piped up Anna as she forced the Battle City DVD into Koyo's arms. "You can always watch that DVD."
"Hey come on!" protested Koyo. "No fair! I just went through a duel for the Duelist Kingdom DVD! This is a rip!"
''Anna really is an enchantress,'' noted Chumley in thought after having just scene this whole situation unfold.
"I guess you could say that" Ryo said in agreement.
Notes
I am finally back after a month hiatus. Sorry for the wait, I have been busy with life these days. Misawa's introduction chapter is finally here and I based it on his manga introduction chapter.
