Gordon had accepted the call, fortunately. Now the two of them were rushing up the stairs of Gotham PD to a waiting chopper. They opened the door to the roof only to hear Bullock yelling at the lieutenant in the helicopter.
"I just got word not to let you up without the commissioner." The man said.
"Who told you that?" Bullock demanded.
"The Commissioner!" The man shouted, he suggested to the commissioner, and Robin sprinted up.
"You've got to be kidding!" Bullock exclaimed.
"Get out, Detective," Gordon ordered, "The mayor may not let me fire you, but I am not taking the heat for your fiascoes."
"This is my case, Commissioner! You heard the Mayor!"
"Then why don't you go take it up with him?" Robin demanded. This was taking too long, he needed to get up there! "We've got a job to do!"
As they hopped into the chopper Gordon pivoted to Bullock, "If you want to tag along, fine. But we're going up now! Take her up, lieutenant."
As the helicopter took off Bullock vaulted up, barely managing to get through the door before it was off the ground. Luckily for him, Robin pulled him in the rest of the way, even if he'd prefer to have left the man hanging onto the side for dear life.
Bullock grumbled and glared at Robin as a 'thanks' for helping save him. Robin glared right back then hopped up front into the co-pilot's seat.
The chopper took them towards the sighting of Batman near a construction sight.
"There!" Robin shouted. He could see Batman on one of the steel beams, trying to stop Man-Bat's flight. The creature was jerked backward by the rope but quickly readjusted. He flew straight up behind Batman and crashed bodily into him.
"Batman!" Robin shouted.
Batman started to fall, and for a moment his heart stopped. Then Batman grabbed Man-Bat's arm and pulled himself onto the creature. With Batman's arms around his neck, Man-Bat's flight was crazed. He twisted and turned in the air, trying to shake Batman off.
"What the hell is that thing?!" Bullock gasped as the light from the chopper fell on both Batman and Man-Bat.
"That thing is what we're after," Robin answered. He lept into the backseat, straining to see out the open side for where his partner was.
"Holy-" Bullock didn't get any further. Robin turned around just in time to see Batman and Man-bat barely miss crashing into the windshield of the chopper.
They flew downward, Batman covering man Bat's eyes and pulling on the top of his mouth, trying to steer him.
"Get us closer," Gordon called.
The chopper flew after the duo, following them until Batman managed to steer ManBat into the brick side of a building! The two collapsed into the parking garage below.
"Batman!" Robin shouted as they hovered over the scene. Without a second thought, he jumped out of the helicopter.
"Robin!" he heard Gordon shout after him, but he didn't care.
He used his grapple to slow his fall until he landed next to Batman. "Batman!" Robin called again as he approached the prone figures.
It took a moment. Batman groaned and gradually struggled to sit up. Robin rushed to his side to help him stand, gasping at the blood trickling down Batman's face.
Behind them, the chopper's spotlight fell on them, and Batman winced. "Robin," He said, his voice heavy and weary, "Help me."
Robin hurried to help him stand, whereas Batman was instead reaching for Man-Bat. There wasn't time to question what he was doing, so Robin threw Man-Bat's over arm over his shoulder as Batman dragged him into the darkness of the parking garage. He pressed a button on his utility belt to call the car, and then the two of them hauled Man Bat's hulking form into the back seat.
"Are you ok? What are you doing? What were you thinking?" Robin demanded as they drove back to the Batcrypt.
Batman was still bleeding and looked worse for the wear, but he wasn't letting that stop him.
"Robin-"
"You could've been killed!"
"Says the guy who jumped out of a helicopter with no parachute," Batman growled.
"We're partners Batman, that means we work together! You can't just go off on your own. What if I hadn't been there? The police could have caught you and Man-Bat! Then what do you think would happen?"
Despite his scolding, Batman smirked. "What are you smiling about!?" Robin cried. "This is serious."
"I know and I'm sorry."
Robin couldn't help but be flabbergasted at Batman's apology. The new Dark Knight continued, "I'm sorry I scared you. Right now someone else needs our help." The Dynamic Duo turned their attention toward the senseless Man-Bat for a second and back on the road.
They pulled into the Bat Crypt. They screeched to a stop, and the top of the car slid open.
"Help me get Lnagstrom secured," Batman ordered.
They secured Man-Bat to an extensive examination table, and Batman put an IV in his arm, injecting him with something to keep him asleep until whatever Batman wanted was accomplished, with.
With Man-Bat secured and out, Robin threw off his mask, scowling at Batman.
"Three for dinner, boys?" Rocky's drawl cut into whatever shouting match was likely about to start.
"He almost died!" Dick cried, pointing to Batman.
"What?" Rocky turned to Batman. "What the hell dude!" Batman shouted at Dick, who couldn't help but chuckle at his situation as the Boy Wonder replied, "You had it coming dude." Batman had his back turned once again as he typed on the computer.
'Good,' Dick thought, 'Maybe an Rocky lecture would make him see the light.'
"I got a list of all the items stolen from the chemical labs. Who would have thought they'd be used to create a monster?"
"Does it appear to be reversible?" Dick questioned.
"Maybe we can undo the fate Langstrom has brought upon himself." Batman continued.
He heard Rocky sigh. 'Good,' Dick thought, 'Maybe an Rocky lecture would make him see the light.'
"Does it appear to be reversible?" Dick questioned. Both Batman and Rocky turned their attention to Dick both smiling with her answer, "I think so."
Hours later, after receiving both first-aid and a hard lecture from a certain Ms. Ballantine. The Batmobile arrived at its destination; The Gotham City Zoo and was placed in park. Its hood opened and both Batman and Robin hopped out of the vehicle. The former Tomorrow Knight now Dark Knight turned his attention to the Batmobile and carried a human completely wrapped in a blanket.
Dr. Francine Langstrom came storming outside the observatory towards them. "Is he alright?" asking about her husband's condition with both her own hands together.
Robin, revealing the head end of the blanket; to reveal a human Dr. Kirk Langstrom with some first aid. She was relieved but couldn't help but question them, "Will he change again?"
Batman both responded by shaking his head 'no' and answered, "No. The formula's out of his system. It's over for now." Robin removed the blanked and placed it in the Batmobile. Batman carried Kirk to the observatory with both Robin and Francine trailing behind.
