Hello, everyone. It's time to move on to the next chapter of GOTM. I don't really have much to say for this one, so let's get on to my response to Reviews/Comments, shall we?

[Response to Reviews/Comments]

(Qoutev) Taco Sensei: As I said in my response on the site itself for those who are a bit confused as to how Chiaki is here, if you've watched the DR3 Anime, you would know that the AI that Chiaki in SDR2 is based on the real Chiaki Nanami who [spoilers] died in the DR3 Anime. I hope that clears some things up.

(Qoutev) Blue: First of all, thank you for the compliment, I'm glad you think the beginning is good! The tags are some of what I have in mind. I have to go back and add a few things first and foremost, considering there is another universe that I plan to add before we jump to what was originally supposed to be the next one. As for the whole antagonist thing across the multiverse… yeah, no. I don't plan for that to be the case, at least, not all the time. She's more or less morally grey, borderline sadistic and has a small pension for being evil when she needs to be, but she won't be okay with something like, I don't know, genocide (and yes that is relevant) or what have you. I hope that answers your question.

(Ao3) TheSevenStars: Natsumi does make rival No. 4, and yes, I do count the corpse sitting out back. I have… plans for that corpse.

(Ao3) Kortegardo3 [On Chapters 3 and 4]: Yeah, you could say that…. As for her Ultimate Title Changing in the future, well—[Redacted for Spoilers, you're welcome! :) ]

Kolt999: Hmm, Jolyne and Natsumi becoming rivals, eh? Well, I can't say much as to how that won't work for what I have in mind, spoilers and all that jazz; but what I can say is that I don't plan to just make Natsumi a one-and-done character. I have some plans for her in the near future.

Right! Now that that's over, let's get into the chapter!

[Chisa Yukizome]

Fear. That was what Chisa was feeling right about now and for good reason.

Chisa knew that Jolyne was a wildcard, at least she was a few seconds ago. But now? Things have changed. Actually, they had done more than just change. The world had just flipped over the table of an elaborate chess game that had been happening for literal decades, and it had been done for the enemy side. The side of Despair. And that was not a good thing.

When Chisa met Jolyne, she seemed like a good person. Sure, she was a little strange, what with her openness to commit self-harm in front of everyone in Class 77 – B, but she was able to write it off as a condition to activate one of her spells. So, in the long run, it was fine. A bit disturbing, but fine. Of course, she had her worries about the transfer student, but other than the crude language from time to time, Jolyne seemed nice.

The key word there had been seemed. As that was evidently not the case.

Then came the whole debacle with Fuyuhiko. It wasn't her fault that she had assassins trying to kill her, so it would stand to reason that equal force would've been met with equal measures. Yes, it was wrong to kill people, but if it was for self-defence, against Chisa's better judgment, she'd say that it'd be fine. Of course, she had assumed Jolyne had been injured, so she went to go find her to check on her and see if she was fine.

But when she saw Jolyne riddled with bullet holes, stab wounds and drenched in blood, while still alive, well that was just something that normal humans could not do. It was then that she started to question her mortality because, with the wounds that she had, it would've been impossible for a person her age to be able to walk, let alone fight, adrenaline or not.

Still, she saw nothing wrong with Jolyne's actions. It was also around that time when she had been asked by Jolyne to round up everyone at the front courtyard of the main building. She had her doubts that it was going to be about something wholesome, and probably had something to do with Fuyuhiko getting comeuppance for what he had done to her and the extent the rest of the class. She was okay with that.

Well, she wasn't okay with what Jolyne did to Fuyuhiko—throwing him into the fountain, resulting in the fountain being shattered and almost every bone in the lower part of Fuyuhiko's body being broken; but Chisa digressed.

No. Where she drew the line in the sand was when Jolyne had impaled Pekoyama for trying to protect Fuyuhiko, which as far as Chisa was concerned was a natural reaction to seeing one's best friend being hurt. Of course, there was nothing she could do to say no to what Jolyne had done, because in her current state at that time, she seemed to be rather irritable, which was a damned understatement.

Telling someone who was irritable "no" was a not-so-smart thing in the first place. Telling someone with magic no while they were in an irritable state? That was just begging to die. Chisa knew it. Class 77 – B knew it. Everyone who had a brain knew it. And then, she had openly said she was going to kill Pekoyama for Fuyuhiko's misdeeds.

That! Now that had been the straw that broke the camel's back. And had it not been for Nekomaru, who was ableto make her stand down, Chisa would've done something about it herself. Although, she contributed her stopping to the grievous wounds she had obtained, after which she passed out and entered a 3-day coma.

And after a long discussion with Headmaster Kirigiri, Chisa reluctantly allowed Jolyne to remain in her class, despite the threat that she posed to them. Jin had defended the girl, saying that she had every right to be as mad as she was, which Chisa found to be bullshit. Openly threatening a student's life, no matter what they did, was not forgivable. And when… or rather, at the time when Fuyuhiko was supposed to wake up, she would've had some strong words for the boy after the fact.

And so, classes continued as normal. Or, well, as normal as they could've been after that display. She had tried to bring Class 77 – B's spirits up in that time, and thankfully she had been able to, if only slightly.

But with everything that was going on… it was starting to get too much. This was not to mention Munakata constantly asking for reports on Jolyne and her powers and what side she was on. And despite her actions toward Pekoyama, Chisa played devil's advocate and still confirmed her as neutral.

But now? Now that was not the case. The Despair she felt was on par with what she had experienced when she ran into Junko Enoshima… times 10,000. Breathing became a struggle just standing next to her, and had it not been for her ability to hold herself together, her body would've fallen to the ground in a noxious haze of tears and Despair.

And all because she spoke out about the death of Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu. The death of one of her students. It shook her to her core to think that one of her students, one whom she had known for 13 months and then some, was dead, which made her feel even worse than what she had felt when she saw Pekoyama get impaled, or when she heard about Chiaki nearly getting killed because of an assassin's carelessness.

It was mortifying. And to see the total lack of remorse on Jolyne's face… the lack of any sympathy to know that she was responsible for his death… angered Chisa. And yet, she knew that she couldn't do anything about it. Well, that wasn't fully true. There was something she could try and do, but as it stood that would just be asking to die.

When she found the time, she would report this to Munakata. Kyosuke needed to know. The former Ultimate Swordsman had been keeping a tight watch on Junko Enoshima and Mukuro Ikosaba already as it was. Adding a super-powered human to that list would've been too much. But, Kyosuke had other members of his little secret organization sprinkled around, including her, to keep tabs on the Ultimate Mage.

However, it was getting to a point where she couldn't handle it. She already lost one student. How many more would have to get hurt for there to be any consequences? Jolyne was training Gundham, which meant that given enough time Gundham might be lured over to their side. She planned to hopefully get Gundham to betray Jolyne; tell him the truth about what she saw. That Jolyne was a monster, that because of her Fuyuhiko was now dead.

If she was able to make the class turn against Jolyne…. Maybe, just maybe she could protect them. It was a drastic move, and she would only do it if she had no choice, but with how things were going, she might just have to do it. For the sake of not only her students but for the sanctity of society. She couldn't let Despair win. On one could. If Despair won the silent war that was going on in the background, then millions would suffer.

She knew it was wrong to turn her class against someone, but… the fate of the world depended on it. While it was something only Kyosuke would do, he had to have learnt it from somewhere, right? Of course, she wasn't going to do it now. Everyone looked so… happy! Hope was brewing within everyone, and the last thing she wanted to do was crush that by announcing their friend's death.

Which left Chisa with only one option. "I'll enact my plan at the school. I'm sorry, Brooks… But I cannot have you ruin my class bond. Nor can I have you cause any more undue harm to those I care about!" Chisa thought, resolve dancing throughout her eyes as she watched Gundham walk into the forest, following after Jolyne.

She just hoped it wasn't too late.

[Jolyne Brooks]

Out of most things that Jolyne had expected, watching Gundham jump straight into wanting to learn Icicle Spear was not one of them. He had seemed far too excited, but then again shooting icicles from one's own hand did sound fun, now didn't it? Granted, this was coming from the same person who could fling fire from her palms and do so with little to no care in the world.

What could she say? She liked ice more than fire. And seeing as she was going to be getting an ice spell after Gundham finished his training with the spell in question, Jolyne was glad Gundham was so gung-ho about the whole thing.

Now, another thing that she wasn't expecting was just how quickly Gundham had been able to learn it. It took him not even three hours after a five-hour meditation session for him to start the beginnings of the spell, and now she was doing target practice with small rocks she found on the ground. 'Course the icicles looked less like icicles and more like blunt stones, but he was getting there. It was why she hadn't gotten the notification that she had completed the Quest. It was because Gundham hadn't fully learned the spell yet.

The sun was starting to set, and another day would soon come, ticking down on the timer she had left to train Gundham this particular spell, that being 5 days, 7 hrs, and 33 minutes. A whole day and… well more than a day and a half had passed, and he was already this close to learning the spell. Jolyne didn't know if she should've been scared or proud that he was learning so fast.

"My best guess is that he has an affinity for Ice Magic. I bet if he tried learning anything else it'd take him months," Jolyne thought as she threw up three more stones. Gundham extended his hand, blue light coming from his palm as he shot them all down with practiced ease using the deformed icicles he was firing. He still hadn't fully gotten them into icicles, but with each passing hour, he was getting better.

"Witch, do you believe this to be necessary? I already learned the spell. I want to move onto something more," Gundham complained as Jolyne narrowed her eyes.

"No, you haven't. You're still learning it. Those aren't icicles, Gundham. Those are ice rocks will small points. I'm sure you know what an icicle is. Now stop complaining, and prepare for another blast," Jolyne said, scooping up more rocks from the river bed before throwing them up. Gundham once again shot out more deformed ice balls, making Jolyne frown.

She had been doing this for the last few hours. It was clear that there was some progress being made, but not enough for her liking. She used CHECK on Gundham and frowned.

Name: Tanaka Gundham/Overlord of Ice Tanaka

Level: 27

HP: 1,125

Stamina: 575

Mana: 185

Faction: Neutral

A True Chunibyo at his core, however, thanks to being taught the ways of magic, can no longer be called a Chunihyo, now can he? No, he truly is The Overlord of Ice! His 'demons' are still priority number 1 for him, though.

"Maybe it has to do with his Mana? Maybe he needs a bit more mana before he can full form them into Icicles?" a grimace came over Jolyne's face, a knot forming in her stomach. They were being watched, and she knew it. Someone was watching them, and it was giving her goosebumps.

"Oi, Gundham. How about this?" Jolyne began, getting his attention as he turned to face her. "How about you go meditate for a few hours, or just go to bed, and then we can pick up where we left off tomorrow. I gotta go do something."

Gundham raised an eyebrow. "May I ask what has caused you to become stricken with grief?" The Ultimate Breeder questioned as Jolyne shook her head.

"It's nothing, Gundham. I just have to tend to personal matters. We'll call it for the night. Go get some rest. Tomorrow, I don't know if I'll even give you a break. Something big is coming, that much I know for sure, and you and I need to be ready for it. This is part of my preparation, and I can't have you in the area when I do it. You might get seriously hurt."

Gundham wasted no time in nodding, then turning around to leave. Jolyne felt bad for lying to him, but it wasn't as if she was fully lying. A part of her had grown some attachment to the teen, though it mainly being platonic. The last thing she wanted was for the teen to get too gravely injured. Letting out a deep sigh, Jolyne waited until Gundham was out of earshot before she spoke. "Alright, whoever's watching, come out now, and there might be a chance that I turn you into a crispy chicken nugget."

"Gee, is that how you greet all your friends?" A calm, relaxed-sounding voice replied as someone that Jolyne hadn't expected to see walked out from behind a tree. It was Rantaro, wearing a blue and white striped shirt and beige pants with black shoes. His hair was a little messy, and she noticed that he had about a dozen ear piercings on his left ear. He also had several rubber bands wrapped around his right arm, as well as a friendship bracelet around his left wrist. There was also a necklace around, well, his neck with what appeared to be a thin quartz rock.

Immediately, Jolyne decided to use CHECK, as now she had been curious as to what level he might've been, and how he compared to everyone else in her class, along with herself. What she saw made her eyes widen.

Name: Rantaro Amami/The Surivialist Adventurer

Level: 580

HP: 368,750

Stamina: 175,525

Mana: 500

Faction: Neutral

A man who prides himself on his survival talent, as well as going on adventures across the world. There is no place in the world that could ever beat Rantaro Amami, not even the arctic tundra! Polar bears fear him, and lions bow down to him, for he is the true King of the Jungle. Just don't ask him if he buys his clothing from Hot Topic, he will hate you for it. And no he is NOT emo.

When Jolyne deactivated CHECK, she wanted to fall backwards. "Level 580?! Just what the hell has this guy been through?! And he has Mana?! What the hell!"

"I take it you saw something you didn't like?" Rantaro asked as Jolyne blinked, surprise taking over her visage. "You got quite the Mana reserve. 177, not bad. I saw that other guy over there. He's got more than you, and you're the one teaching him. Kinda strange, don't you think?" Rantaro remarked as Jolyne sputtered.

"Y-You can use CHECK, too?" Jolyne murmured as Rantaro shrugged, a smile on his face.

"Most Mages can, though that's only if they're taught it. I knew there was something off about you when we first met. I just couldn't put my finger on what it was at the time. And now I know. You're a Mage. It's nice to finally meet another one that isn't faking it. I believe re-introductions are in order. I'm Rantaro Amami, Future Ultimate Adventurer, and Japan's resident Healing Mage. Nice to meet you, Jolyne Brooks."

Rantaro reached out with a friendly hand, to which Jolyne reluctantly took it. Rantaro was powerful, far beyond what she had imagined. What made things even stranger was that he had concealed his magical energies from her, somehow, to make him undetectable. That was terrifying. First, it was Gundham being Magic Sensitive, then it was Natsumi learning magic and was now out to kill her, and now Rantaro was a veteran Mage?!

What was next?! A demon bear running full steam ahead to rip both their throats out!?

Thankfully, that last one didn't happen. Rather, Jolyne sighed, looking up at the sky and squinting. Daimen was probably laughing his goddamn ass off while eating some sort of comically large-sized bucket of popcorn.

Jolyne composed herself, taking in a deep breath, then sighed. "So… when you use CHECK, what do you see?" Jolyne asked as Rantaro shrugged.

"CHECK is a spell that matters to the individual. What someone can see is vastly different compared to another. For example, when I used CHECK on you, I saw your Mana, but more importantly your mortality leaning. To be completely honest, I wasn't expecting you to be Neutral Evil, but with what you were teaching Gundham, that doesn't surprise me. Icicle Spears is a deadly spell that should only be taught when a dire situation was is afoot," Rantaro said, crossing his arms as Jolyne raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, well, considering I have someone trying to kill me, I'm just preparing Gundham in case they decide to go after him due to our connection we have as Teacher and Student," Jolyne explained. She had to admit, coming up with that excuse on the spot was pretty clever of her. It wasn't the first time she had ever bullshitted someone before, but this time it wasn't exactly a lie. It was true. She did have someone after her, she just didn't know if Gundham was in danger or not. That, and she really wanted to get those quest rewards.

"Hmm… makes sense. Although, a part of me has to ask, how did you come across Magic in the first place?" Rantaro asked as Jolyne huffed.

"Born with a natural strong affinity for it, of every type. Fire, Ice, Blood, you name it I can do it given enough time," Jolyne said as Rantaro's eyes widened while he nodded.

"That explains why you're the Ultimate Mage. Most mages can only learn one element," Rantaro said, crossing his arms as he leaned against the tree he had come out from hiding behind.

"Oh? Well, that's good to know. I was going to start Gundham on learning Fire Spells if I could help it. But if certain spells are locked behind something stupid like that, then I'm glad I learnt that tidbit of info before I started ramming my head into a brick wall," Jolyne quipped, putting her hands in her pocket. The dual-haired teen bit the inside of her lip as an awkward silence took over the pair.

Eventually, after two more minutes passed, Jolyne cleared her throat before speaking. "So, if that's the case, what kind of magic do you use?"

Rantaro smirked, showing the palms of his hands as a green light overcame them. "I can heal things. It's a form of Nature Magic. Fitting, considering I travel the globe. I've tried to use some actual fighting magic, but I'm incapable. I sometimes go to small towns in India and cure diseases. I'm known as the miracle man. Aside from that, I try not to draw any attention to myself," Rantaro replied as the light died down before the green-haired teen put his hands into his pockets.

"So if you don't want to draw attention to yourself, why out yourself in front of a Mage with connection to Hope's Peak Academy? Not only that but The Ultimate Mage? It literally serves no purpose other than to trouble yourself," Jolyne said, taking her hands out of her pockets. "If you don't want others to know you're a Mage, why would you tell me?"

"So that you know I'm not a threat," Rantaro immediately followed up, a sly smirk on his face. "After all, I don't want you to think I'm trying to gun you down or anything. Most Mages want nothing more than to gain power, be it political or otherwise. You strike me as the kind of person who's in that otherwise category. For starters, something tells me you're training that Gundham guy for less than altruistic reasons like the ones you've been telling me," Rantaro said, his smirk never leaving as Jolyne scoffed.

"This guy… he's a real smartass…. But, he's right, and he knows it. Clever…." "Congratulations Einstein. You want you're noble peace prize?" Jolyne snarked as he bit back a laugh.

"And you're snarky, too. Jeez, you remind me of my oldest younger sister," Rantaro said as Jolyne raised an eyebrow.

"You have siblings?"

"Had." Rantaro corrected, his eyes narrowing, before lightening up. "They went missing. I'm trying to find them. It's why I travel the world. Most people think I'm insane for believing them to be alive, and sometimes I think they're right. But I'm their older brother! I'm partly the reason why they went missing, and—" Rantaro stopped himself, sucking in a deep breath through his nose before exhaling, shaking his head. "You know what, forget it. You probably don't care or want to know. I'm sorry for venting…." Rantaro said, slinking down the tree he was leaning up against, sitting on the cold dirt ground.

If there was one thing that Jolyne hated, it was sob stories. Not because they drove her up the bend, but because they were effective at pulling her heartstrings. No matter what sob story she listened to, it always made her feel for the person telling it. Hell, the person could've been a tyrannical dictator, and the moment they busted out a sob story, she would at least listen to them, even if she planned to kill them.

Letting out a sigh, she walked over next to Rantaro, who had a gloomy expression on his face. She sat next to him, tucking her legs into herself as she looked at him, head tilted slightly to look at his eyes. They looked empty, lifeless, baron. He felt guilty, and he had every reason to. If what he said was true, and that he was partly to blame for them going missing, then of course any sane human being would feel guilty for that kind of thing.

She put a hand on his shoulder, catching his attention as she mustered up a saddened smile. "You know… it really isn't your fault, right? They got lost, and you couldn't find them. How many times have you travelled the world just to find one?"

He chuckled, looking up that the beautiful sunset. "Countless. I think I lost count after trip number 15. I was 14 when I lost them. I travelled the world 15 times in a single year to try and find them. And what do I have to show for it?" His breath hitched at that, his hand shook as he gripped the ground, grabbing a fist full of grass and dirt. "Nothing. I found nothing. Not even a single hair! So what kind of brother does that make me, huh?! Because clearly, nothing I do seems to fucking work! For all I know, they could be dying, and I can't find them. I'm an awful, horrible brother, who can't even find one of his sisters!" Rantaro's voice rose higher than the soft calm he had before, to something more enraged. Not at anyone in particular, but rather himself.

The more he talked, the angrier he became, and the more his hand dug into the ground as he struggled to hold back the tears in his eyes. Yet, he did. He held them back, and that kind of endurance was kind of admirable.

Rantaro once again took a calming breath, then chuckled. "I don't even know why I'm telling you this. I've only met you, what, once? And that was by chance at a bookstore. You probably don't care, do you?" Rantaro asked, his head turning to meet Jolyne's, a stern expression on his face. His eyes were watery, almost as if he was about ready to burst out into tears.

Jolyne felt a lump form in her throat. She hated seeing people this upset, especially cute and attractive boys, but that wasn't important. Maybe she was developing a slight crush on the green-haired teen, but once again, that was irrelevant. Her feelings did not matter right now, right now she was focusing on making this guy feel a bit better about himself than he was at this current moment and time. So, giving him a reassuring smile, Jolyne grabbed his hand and looked him in the eyes.

"If I didn't care, Rantaro, would I be right beside you listening?" Jolyne asked as Rantaro looked down at his hand, eyes slightly widening, before looking back at Jolyne. "Look, Rantaro… you're right, I don't know you, and you don't know me. But, as far as I'm concerned, you don't seem like a bad guy. You obviously care for them, right? If you were such a bad brother, then why are you still looking for them?" Jolyne asked as Rantaro shook his head in confusion, his hand letting go of hers as he glared at her.

"Why wouldn't I be looking for them? I—" He paused. Rantaro blinked a few times, then smirked, chuckling to himself, though it wasn't a happy chuckle. It was a pained one. "I see what you did there…." Rantaro said, slowly standing up as Jolyne returned the smirk.

"Well, am I wrong?" Jolyne asked as Rantaro shook his head.

"No, I suppose not. Thank you, Jolyne. I needed that. You have no idea how hard it's been for me to bottle that up. You're just a stranger, and you let me open up to you. I'm… I'm sorry if I made you feel weird," Rantaro said, rubbing the back of his neck as Jolyne shook her head.

"Honestly, Rantaro, I'm always willing to listen if you're ever feeling down. I mean, that's what friends are for, right?" Jolyne asked as Rantaro's smirk turned into a smile.

"Yeah, I guess you're right."

Friendship with Rantaro Amami increased! Plus 50 [050/100]

Friendship unlocked with Rantaro Amami! Rantaro Amami now considers you a friend!

Perk Unlocked – The Law of the Land – Description: When in the wild, your senses become heightened, specifically your eyesight and hearing. However, this is only in the wild. Anywhere else and this perk will not be active.

In her mind, Jolyne smirked. The perk wasn't too bad, but it was interesting. Rantaro blinked at her, his heading tilting ever-so-slightly. "Uh… Jolyne, I know this might seem confusing, but… what are those?" Rantaro said as he pointed at one of the text boxes.

Jolyne's eyes widened to the size of saucers.

-To Be Continued-

Haha! Funny cliffhanger ha! So, how about instead of me explaining all of that, how about I do something that most Gamer Fics tend to do on occasion and put Jolyne's current stats and abilities, hmm… right here! It's a refresher, not only for me but for those reading in case they forgot something or another! So, yeah! Otherwise, I hope you enjoyed the chapter, and I'll see you all in the next one! Peace!

[Epic] - Hellfire (Lv. 2/75) Allows the user to summon powerful blasts of fire at the cost of 2.5 Mana per second! Prolonged and over usage of Hellfire will damage the user's skin. Upon unlocking Hellfire, the user will be granted basic flame resistance as a trait.

[Next Ability will unlock at Lv. 3]

[Rare] - Puppetry (Lv. 1/50) Upon causing any form of physical damage to anyone, or any animal, the user is able to control that person's or animal's body with perfect control using strings that come out of the user's fingers. Puppetry's control can be broken only when the user is knocked unconscious. This spell costs 50 Mana to use, and afterwards, has a 20-minute cooldown between uses.

[Legendary] - Despair Aura (Lv. 1/100) When activated, an aura of Despair will wash over anyone within a visible range of the user, capping out at a 50-metre radius. Anyone caught in the aura will experience an effect known as Despair. The longer they are within the radius of the user while the spell is active, the worse the Despair will be. It costs 1 Mana per minute to keep the spell active. Once the Mana bar is drained, or the spell is deactivated, there is a 30-second cooldown in between uses.

[Next Ability will unlock at Lv. 2]

Stand:

[Mythic] - Whitesnake (Lv. 1/150): Whitesnake is a white and black humanoid Stand of a height and build similar to that of an above-average human male. It is sparsely clothed in black, with a mask covering its face to the bottom of where its nose would be, in a piece that rises above its head by half its height in a row of peaks like a crown. The mask itself is vaguely similar to what executioners wore back in the early 18th century. Its light skin is marked by horizontal stripes of roughly an inch's height, with "GACT" (Guanine/Adenine/Cytosine/Thymine) repeatedly written on every other stripe. The letters are the chemicals to make up DNA. Its irises also appear as if they are melting. Whitesnake can travel 20 meters away from the user, however, while doing so, the user is vulnerable.

Whitesnake's abilities:

Auto-pilot: When this ability is activated, Whitesnake can travel 20 meters away from its user and act upon its user's will, while allowing the user to continue about their day.
