Welcome back, everyone! I think we've been through this same song and dance more than a handful of times. However, I have an important announcement to make! I got a P-atre-on (have to trick Fanfiction Dot Net somehow). It's the first link on any of my profile pages on all the sites I post this on (Wattpad, Quotev, FF dot net [you gotta piece it together], and Ao3), but if you're reading this on Ao3 and I don't want the hassle of actually going to my profile and reading my bio, here's the link (copy and paste it into the search bar on PC).
Link (Sorry FF readers): gobblegum2?fan_landing=true&view_as=public
Now, just to dispel some potential worries: No, I am NOT putting this fanfic up as one of those "PaT-ReOn's gEt tO ReAd ChApTeR's EaRlY" cringe crap. No, this is only if you want to chip in a dollar seventy-five to help a guy out. There's also the other tier in case you want to take a look at my own OG novel for the first ten chapters (posting the first chapter today), so if you're at all interested, check it out.
Though keep in mind, if you do select the second tier, what you see when I post the free early chapters of the original novel is NOT THE FINAL PRODUCT. There is still stuff I have to fix, and have an editor comb over to check for any mistakes. It is a sneak-peak for a reason.
Now, with that out of the way, let's hop into some responses to reviews/comments!
[Response to reviews/comments!]
(Quotev) Taco Sensei: Well, you're about to find out!
(Quotev) JammyJam: Honestly, ngl, kinda love the energy you bring to the comment section! Always like to see people leave comments like yours. Gave me a smile or two. Although, tbh, with the injuries Fuyuhiko had, him surviving would've seemed like a bit of a stretch.
(Ao3) TheGreatWave74: Yeah, pretty much. I mean, seeing as Jolyne is extremely powerful, I wouldn't want to leave her alone, nor would I not want her to be not involved with everything either. She's both an incredible asset in this world, as well as an immense danger.
(Ao3) TheSevenStars: *Megalovania Base boosted + earrape intensifies*
Kolt999: Seeing as I read a LOT of Gamer fics, I can say that this scenario has only happened once or twice with a character actually seeing the text-boxes, though I can't remember for the life of me what exactly the fics were called. I just remember something like this happening. As for how the magic society in this world works… well, there aren't any "mages in black" so to speak, it's just that people in this world really, really don't believe in magic, so any post they see like that on Reddit or forums like 4-chan 99% of people brush off as crack-head shit. Those that do like the idea of it being spread about, so there isn't any secrecy around it. Plus, it allows me to not spend as much time as I would have to flesh out this part, considering this world is considered "the tutorial world". Lazy, I know, but quite frankly I don't want to muddy this world as much as I already have and change it from "Danganronpa Universe w/ magic" to " A Universe that has Danganronpa's premise, with the same characters, however, there is—blah-blah-blah"
Now…. Let's jump right into the chapter!
xxXXxxXXxx
[Jolyne Brooks]
If there was any moment in time for the world to freeze for Jolyne, it had to be now. But why? Well, it was simple: Someone was able to see And it all had to do with what had just happened.
Rantaro could see The System. No one else was able to see it, yet Rantaro could. And with an expectant look on his face, Jolyne knew she had to come up with an answer, and fast. There was a small part of her brain that told her just to kill him, but that quite frankly wasn't an option. Killing Rantaro would mean losing the cool Perk she just got—assuming that was how The System worked—and also make her lose a valuable ally.
Rantaro was a healer. That was someone that needed to be kept around. Sure, she had some killer self-regeneration, but she couldn't regen her health during a fight. Well, that wasn't true. Blood Control gave her partial Regen when she blocked bleeding wounds, but it was negligible at best, and downright useless at its worst.
So, having someone who could heal be an alley would benefit her more than it would benefit her if he had died. And therefore, she had to come up with some form of excuse.
And luckily, she had just that.
"Well, how I told you that I could learn every kind of magic?" Jolyne began as Rantaro nodded, albeit with a skeptical gleam in his eye.
"Yes, I remember you saying that. You just said it, after all," Rantaro replied.
"Good, he's buying it so far! Charisma don't fail me now!" "Well, this is one of those forms of magic. It's called Game Magic, the kind of magic I was born with. What it allows me to do is learn any kind of magic I want, meaning so long as I unlock it, I can use it. This also means that it categorizes things into values like bonds I have with others. Hence why that showed up. Nobody else but myself has been able to see it thus far, with yourself being the only exception."
Technically, Jolyne wasn't lying. That was what The System was. Just… far more complex than that. Of course, she felt out the whole perk system and all that, which he didn't seem to catch on to. Either that, he couldn't see that part of it. If that was the case, then that meant he couldn't really see the text box. That meant that Daimon either pulled some shit out of his ass to help her again, or he couldn't see the Quest and Perk stuff, just the values.
And luckily for her, it worked! He seemed convinced if the look in his eyes told her anything. Although, there was a part of Jolyne that knew that she was incredibly lucky that it worked, to begin with. And because it worked the way it did, she knew damn well that it wouldn't work the same way again. God forbid he questioned it in the future because if he did she wouldn't have a good enough excuse.
"Think about the now, Jolyne, better to do that than to worry about the future."
"Huh… well you learn something new every day," Rantaro said, shrugging as he did so. "Well, it's getting late. I better head back to my cabin. I don't want to get jumped by another bear or anything like that. See you around, Jolyne."
And with that, Rantaro left. The text box disappeared, and when it did Jolyne breathed out a sigh of relief. She wasn't going to lie to herself, she was tense that entire time. But, now that he was gone, she could relax.
Although, a part of her wondered what his reaction would've been if he told her she was from an alternate universe under the whim of one of the many disciples of Loki. He's probably freaking out. It wasn't as if she wanted to tell him, nor did she want to him about her existence as someone with Gamer Abilities.
Now that Jolyne thought about it, there were a few times in the past when she read Gamer fanfics. Comparing her experiences to those of the protagonists of those fanfics, she only now realized that they were quite similar. Er, well, maybe not completely similar, but close enough. She was also FAR weaker than the rest of them.
However, that was not important. What was important was what she had to do after. Now that Rantaro was gone, she had to do something else. Mainly, she had to—
[Gamers Mind has awarded you Plus 1 for Charisma, and 3 for Luck for being able to convince Rantaro Amami that you are not The Gamer]
Jolyne's left eye twitched. Of course, this whole scenario was The System's doing. At least she now knew that Gamers Mind gave her boosts to her stats. Though, the description didn't say it did that. Maybe that was something that it purposefully kept hidden? If that was the case, then that was a bit of a dick move on The System's behalf.
She hated it when people or things didn't fully explain things to her. It made everything twice as annoying as it needed to be. But, at least she knew it now. Jolyne looked up into the sky. The moon was slowly coming up, meaning that nighttime was now fully set in motion.
And seeing as that was the case, and seeing as ten hours had passed since she last sent Whitesnake out…. "Any minute now…" Jolyne thought as then, another text box appeared in front of her.
[Whitesnake has been busy over the last 10 hours!]
[Your command to Whitesnake: Kill any wild animals in the nearby area to level up]
[Note-worthy thing that Whitesnake wanted to mention to you: Got revenge on those damned bears. Killed the cubs just to make sure.]

[Whitesnake has levelled up to Lv. 26! Whitesnake needs 1,075 Exp till the next level up! Whitesnake has 12 skill points you can use! Whitesnake has unlocked a new ability! The next ability unlocks at Lv. 75]
[Ability Unlocked! DISC Creation: Whitesnake's primary ability is to manipulate spirits through the use of special DISCS. Whitesnake can first and foremost extract a portion or the entirety of a person's psyche out of their bodies in the form of tangible DISCS and then put them into other people. To do so, Whitesnake must touch its victim and take the time to physically "extract" the disc from them: as such, partial extraction is ineffective.
There are two main types of DISCS: Memory Discs contain a person's memory and Stand Discs contain a person's Stand. Discs may be inserted into another person's head, allowing them to either freely consult the memories inside, or use the corresponding Stand, much like the original user. If the user would see to do so, they can force a detrimental power into someone, for example causing someone to self-detonate. In certain instances, those with inserted discs can eject them through enough force to the head.
People whose Stand and Memory Discs are extracted will fall unconscious and may die due to their bodily functions stopping and having to be maintained through machines. Putting a Memory Disc back inside its rightful owner will restore them, however, the same does not apply to Stand Discs. A Stand User with only a Stand Disc can regain consciousness and be capable of learning, but the loss of their will to live results in muscle atrophy and eventual death of the body.
Whitesnake can also insert regular discs into people as well, like CDs, turning that person into a music player. DVDs also work, though only the spoken script will be heard if it is a TV show or movie, along with the sound effects. Whitesnake can also extract senses from others as well, like removing sight or smell, though this only applies to the user.]
[You have been given 10 Blank DISCS in your inventory! These Blank DISCS can be exchanged in The Stand Gacha, which you access by thinking "Stand Gacha"]
To say Jolyne was floored was beyond an understatement. Not only was that amount of EXP ridiculous, but the fact that Whitesnake was now Lv. 26 meant that it unlocked a new ability. And said new ability was utterly busted! Actually, scratch that, it was BEYOND busted. The only thing that she was annoyed about, for the most part, was another Gacha element.
"Seriously, this is starting to turn into one of those crappy Mobile Games. Why do there need to be Gacha elements for everything that I unlock!" Jolyne thought, arms crossed.
"So that you do not become too powerful too quickly. If I were to make you too strong too quickly, you would not have to struggle. Struggling is important to the human condition. If we wanted you to become a Demi-God, we would've put you in one of the other Universes we have lined up for you."
When the system finished speaking, Jolyne blew out air from her mouth. Now that she had Whitesnake where she wanted it, sending it out would be rather useless for the time being. Sure, getting it stronger would be nice, but at the moment, it was not needed. She had the ability that she wanted to be unlocked, and seeing as it was probably a billion times stronger than it was before, there was no reason to keep it from grinding levels.
Well, that wasn't true. The stronger, the better. "Speaking for stronger…." Jolyne thought as Whitesnake's skill tree appeared in front of her. She had 12 skill points to use, and she wasn't about to not use them. And so, she used them, obviously!
[DISC Luck 1: Increases the chances of powerful Stands in Stand Disc Gacha! – Cost: 4 sp]
"DISC Luck? But that wasn't there before? Maybe it was added because Whitesnake got a new ability? Probably. It's blocking my path to the other stuff, so I guess I don't have a choice. The cost, too…. Damn, well, it's worth it, right? 4 sp for 1 level up on it. I can already see this becoming a major hassle in the future. Whatever, what's next?"
[Attack Speed 2: Increases the speed at which Whitesnake attacks! – Cost 3 Sp]
[Longer Camouflage 2: Increases the amount of time Whitesnake is invisible when being deployed in its auto-pilot state (Ups from 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes) – Cost: 5 Sp]
[Whitesnake Stats Rank up!]
[ATK Grade: D – C]
[SPD Grade: D – C]
"Whoa…." Jolyne murmured, the skill tree disappearing. She hadn't expected those stats to rank up, but it seemed that the more she progressed in the skill tree, the better they would get. Though she didn't know why her ATK Grade went up. She upgraded Attack Speed, not Destructive Power. "Perhaps both are linked? God, this is so confusing…!" Jolyne thought, frowning.
It was weird. None of her other spells has skill trees like Whitesnake did. She assumed it had something to do with it being more complex than the other spells. And technically speaking, Whitesnake wasn't a Spell. It was a part of her, i.e. her soul. So, that alone made it more special than any of her other spells.
Speaking of which…. "I should probably level up my spells more. From what I know, they level up by using them…. So, maybe I should do that before I go to bed."
Just as Jolyne said that she heard a rustling in the bushes. Turning around, her eyes met a set of animalistic ones. Not moving an inch, she averted her eyes, looking at the ground. A growling sound came from the bush, and then, the animal pounced.
Its body was pitch black, its claws gleamed in the night, and its maw opened wide. Its eyes were a deep yellow, and its fur was just as black as its paws. It was a Wolf, a black one, to be exact. It was large, but she couldn't make out just how large. She didn't have time to use CHECK on it to see just how strong the wolf was, but that wasn't important.
In that split-second choice, Jolyne dodged to the left, narrowly avoiding getting pinned to the ground. The wolf snarled, prowling just in front of her, its head lowered, its teeth bare, and its eyes narrowed toward her. The wolf snarled, its front legs arched forward, preparing to leap forward again.
Jolyne flicked her right wrist as Hellflame came to her beck and call. The wolf's eyes widened, almost on instinct, though it kept its stance. The light of the fire illuminated the area surrounding the black-and-pink-haired teen. And what it uncovered was at least four more wolves, all waiting to pounce at its leader's command. Jolyne glanced around her and frowned.
Wolves didn't normally attack humans. They only did so when they felt threatened, so unless they were all aware of her power…. "Don't animals have a deeper connection to the Earth than humans? It wouldn't be dumb to assume that they were able to link Whitesnake to me through some sort of weird scent thing. And seeing as Whitesnake killed a few wolves…. Damnit. Just my luck…." Jolyne thought as she flared the fire around her hand, making the wolf in front of her back up.
And then, it let out a commanding howl. As soon as it did, one of the wolves waiting behind her sprung up and prepared to tackle her. On command, Whitesnake appeared from her back and punched the wolf in the muzzle, causing blood to erupt from its mouth, nose, and upper face. To her right, another wolf lunged forward, to which she flung a volley of flame, scorching the animal as it let out a pained howl. The attack took up around 45 of her Mana, which annoyed her. The continuous fire damage did over 50 damage per second, doing 1000 damage in total.
Using the blood that came from the wolf that Whitesnake punched, she activated Blood Control to turn the blood into small pins. The blood pins stabbed into the wolf the blood came from, piercing through its body, and drawing more blood to add to the hoard of pins, a majority of which when hit did CRITICAL DAMAGE. In total, the damage was over 1750 to the wolf. Considering the first wolf downed after only taking 1000 points of damage, that meant she ended up doing nearly 750 points of extra damage due to crits! The move cost her 35 Mana, meaning she had now used nearly a Quarter of her full bar of Mana. Unlike HP, though, it regenerated during fights, so it wasn't much of an issue.
[Grey Wolves killed: 2 – 2000 Exp]
Jolyne smirked, turning to her right as another wolf had gotten dangerously close. She raised her arm to protect herself from getting bit on the face, the wolf opting to clamp down on the provided arm. When the wolf bit down, blood was drawn, and in the process, she took over 45 damage. She winced, shaking the wolf off as it hit the ground. When she shook her hand, Bear Claw formed, costing her 30 Mana. Using the formed construct, she slammed the claws into the wolf's throat, killing it.
[Grey Wolf killed – 1000 Exp]
The last two wolves that remained stared at Jolyne with what could only be described as fear, and instead of staying to finish the fight, they ran away. Jolyne narrowed her eyes, pointing toward the two escaping wolves as Whitesnake chased after them. It easily caught up with them, grabbed them by the back of their necks, and slammed them into the ground, their heads exploding into blood, skull fragments, and grey matter.
[Grey Wolves killed: 2 – 2000 Exp]
Jolyne shook her head, a disappointed gleam in her eyes as she deactivated her spells. A text box appeared in her right peripheral.
[Sudden Attack – Complete!]
[Enemies killed: Grey Wolves – 5! Exp earned: 5000 Exp! (2,500 Exp given to Whitesnake)]

Jolyne smirked. Several things happened as a result of killing the rest of those wolves. Blood Control levelled up, and because of that, she gained a new construct. One that seemed blatantly overpowered. Granted, the secondary use of the construct was extremely expensive to pull off, which she couldn't deny. That wasn't even mentioning the slower Mana regen after the attack. She didn't know how slow, but it was still incredibly risky to do.
If she ever had to do such a move, it would only be in dire situations.
Activating HellFlame, she burned the wolf corpses to ash, that way when Gundham came back to train, he wouldn't see the death she wrought. After all, he was an animal lover. The last thing she wanted to do was anger him by having killed several wolves. "Then again, they did start the fight…. Nah, not gonna risk it."
When Jolyne was done dealing with the wolves, she had Whitesnake go back to her. Closing her eyes, she took in a deep breath. Jolyne hoped that no one else saw that, but if they did, it wasn't like she could do anything about it. At least, not right now. When her eyes opened again, she began her trek back to her camping spot.
When she got back, she frowned. Her poor sleeping bag was in tatters. It was covered in scratch marks and bites. "So, the wolves attacked my sleeping bag because it had my scent on it. Welp, now it's deserved. Bastards…." Jolyne thought as she looked to the lip of the woods, and decided to walk out. Besides, the woods were more trouble than they were worth. The camp was still going strong, and in the distance, she saw someone strumming on what appeared to be a guitar.
She couldn't quite make out who it was, but if she had to guess, it had to be Ibuki. Why? Well, Ibuki was The Ultimate Magician, so it only made sense for it to be her.
When she approached the campfire, she was able to get a better look at who it was. It was more than apparent that it was Ibuki, considering she was the only one with the kind of hair she had. When she came closer, Ibuki stopped strumming the guitar and looked up to see her.
"Oh! Brooks-san! You're here!" The excitable teen said, though her voice was a few notches quieter than usual. "Keep quiet, everyone's asleep. You wouldn't want to wake up Hiyoko-chan, Ibuki found that out the hard way…." The multi-coloured-haired teen said, a bead of sweat falling down the side of her face as Jolyne smirked.
"S'up, Mioda-san. Nice strumming, by the way. I could hear it from the edge of the forest," Jolyne said as Ibuki smiled.
"Thank you. I was practicing acoustic, though I'm more of a fan of heavy metal, when I'm out in a peaceful place like this I like to play more peaceful-sounding things. Besides, I need to hone my talent more, so why not out here? Isn't Ibuki smart!" Ibuki said, standing up as she strapped the guitar to her back. She looked down at her phone and frowned. "Awe, it's only 10:30 PM! Seriously! It's so much darker than it needs to be! I hate early spring, it's always so dark…. Hmph."
Jolyne shrugged. "Well, what else is there to say? That's just life," the dual-haired teen quipped, the Ultimate Musician snorting.
"Yeah, I guess so."
Jolyne raised an eyebrow. "Why do you only sometimes refer to yourself in the first person, and other times in the third person? Doesn't that confuse you?" When Jolyne asked that question, Ibuki simply shrugged.
"Keeps Ibuki on her toes and makes her think more. That way, I'm not caught off guard. Ibuki needs to keep her mind running at all times so that she can think of new songs to write! If Ibuki can't do that, then what's the point? I need to be smart enough and fast enough to improvise, so if Ibuki can switch things up on a dime, then Ibuku doesn't have to worry, now do I?"
Jolyne had to really pay attention to what she was saying, simply due to the fact that she had switched it up on several occasions. Because of that, she was barely able to decipher what she was saying but understood most of it.
[Gamers Mind has given you the Listening Skill! Listen to conversations more intently to level it up!]
[Listening [1/100]: Allows you to listen more intently and pick up on things that most people wouldn't. This includes picking up on hidden meanings in sayings, as well as speeches.]
The System had announced that in her mind instead of showing her a text box. That was good, and also more convenient. Brushing it aside, for now, Jolyne nodded. "Yeah, I get what you mean. It also means people have to pay attention to you when you speak, right?"
Ibuki huffed, smiling. "Bingo! You catch on quickly, Brooks-san. Oh! Can Ibuki call you Jolyne, instead? It's easier for me," Ibuki said as Jolyne nodded.
"Sure thing, but only if I get to call you Ibuki," Jolyne replied as the multi-coloured-haired musician stuck her thumbs up.
"Sure thing, Jolyne! Oh! Did I pronounce it right? American names give Ibuki a hard time. Jo-Lean… Right? That's how I say it?" Ibuki asked as the mage chuckled softly.
"Yeah, that's correct, Ibuki." To this, Ibuki smiled.
"Yes!" The girl said, before yawning. "Well, I'm going to call it in for the night. Ibuki'll see you in the morning!" And with that, the musician walked into the nearest tent, leaving Jolyne by herself. The mage frowned. Ibuki hadn't considered her a friend yet, so that meant she needed to work on her some more. She decided to open up her inventory and took out her cloak, put it on, then laid down on the ground. She was near the fire, meaning she'd be kept warm.
And then, she closed her eyes…. Only to be immediately woken up by a kick to the ribs. She groaned, opening her eyes as she looked up to be greeted by Nagito. "Good morning to you too, dickhead," Jolyne groaned, sitting up. Nagito scoffed, walking away.
"Oi, Nagito! That wasn't needed, you know!" Akane's voice called out to the sickly teen, who ignored them all. The big-chested gymnast shook her head, looking down at Jolyne. "Sorry 'bout him. Ever since Gundham showed off his whole ice stuff, he's been in a real pissy mood. You need help up?" Akane offered, outstretching her hand as Jolyne took it. With ease, Akane yanked her up, a smirk on her face.
"Damn, girl. For as thin as you are, you got a pretty good grip! Say, how good are you in a fight?" Akane asked, an eager look in her eyes as Jolyne raised an eyebrow.
"You wanna fight me?" Jolyne asked as Akane's gleam sharpened.
"You catch on quick! Damn straight I do! So, will ya?!" The gymnast asked as Nekomaru cleared his throat from behind her.
"Akane…." The Ultimate Team Manager groaned. "She just woke up. I'm sure you can work out something with you later," Nekomaru said Akane frowned.
"C'mon, coach! I'm all amped and ready to go! I need to let loose my energy!" Akane said as Nekomaru's brow furrowed.
"Akane," he said sharply. "If you want to fight someone, fight me. Let Brooks-san wake up, and then I'm sure she wouldn't mind fighting you. I mean, if that is okay with you?"
[Optional Quest]
[Fight, Fight, Fight!]
Description: Akane Owari wants to battle in a one-on-one fisticuffs brawl! Show her just how strong you really are!
Conditions: No ranged attacks! No Whitesnake! If any of these are used, it will result in failure!
Rewards: 5,000 Exp, 1,500 Yen, 1 Stand Blank Stand DISC, 1 Gacha Token, 1 Spell Token!
Failure: Minus 5000 Yen, and broken bones.
Jolyne smirked, moreover because of the Quest she just received, and two because she knew she could probably win. Of course, she wasn't allowed to use ranged magic, which probably included Puppetry and Despair Aura, not to mention that Whitesnake was prohibited. All in all, it seemed like a bad idea, but with Bear Claw, or coating her hands in Hellflame, she could probably win. That, and the rewards were killer, too. Which reminded her, she needed to do that Stand Gacha thing later.
"Yeah, sure. I'm up for that. And I promise I won't use any ranged crap. I'll only stick to physical stuff." When Jolyne gave her answer, Akane's smile widened.
"Hell yeah! I'll wait for you over there! Don't keep me waiting too long, got it?" Akane said an amped look on her face as Jolyne nodded. Akane left, Nekomaru following her close behind. She could hear Mikan muttering something under her breath, and that wasn't even accounting for the fact that the rest of the class had been watching the whole situation like hawks.
It was too early for this crap. Right now, she needed some time to wake up and some prep time. Last time she checked, Akane was level 45. She was going to be giving it her all, and that wasn't a good thing. This fight could be deadly to her, and she knew it. That was when it dawned on her that she could die if this all went south….
"Oh…. SHIT! What the hell did I just agree to?!" Now she had no choice but to win. Akane was 33 levels higher than she was. If Akane hit her more than twice, she was fucked! And that was assuming she wasn't going to be using full power. One clean full power punch to the gut and she was done for.
And if she died… then that meant that she would be sent back to Heaven, never to be given another chance, namely considering this was all thanks to pure happenstance!
A mix of determination and fear danced in Jolyne's eyes. She needed to win this. She had no choice. And with the limits she had put on herself, she would have to get… creative.
