Chapter 4

It was the day before Halloween and Sam was feeling a little better. Swelling was slowly going out of his knee and the pain was lessening. He was getting up to sit on the small couch with his leg propped up just to get out of bed. Dean planned for them to leave the day after Halloween, thinking Sam would be able to travel by then. They were in no hurry and could stop as often as he needed on their way to Bobby's.

Dean had gone out to a deli he found for subs and stopped by a convenience store for chips, snacks, bottled water, and beer. After paying for his purchases, he stepped through the automatic doors and took two steps when he was suddenly bombed from the sky by the raven.

"What the f…." Dean exclaimed as he stumbled and almost fell before getting back through the doors while still holding on to his purchases.

"Hey, you okay dude?" the cashier asked when he saw Dean stumbling and almost fall back through the doors.

"Damn bird!" he hissed juggling his bags and beer. "Did you see that? That bird nearly took my head off."

"No, sorry man, wasn't looking," the young guy shrugged in apology. "I only saw you stumbling."

"That monster bird has been harassing me for days. I'm going to put that bastard in the ground," he spat in anger. He looked around and saw no one was listening to him or paying attention to him. Dean turned and stepped to the door, letting it open on its own but didn't step through.

"Excuse me," a woman behind him spoke trying to get by Dean.

"Sorry, go ahead," Dean told her stepping to the side. He watched her exit and didn't see the bird and hurried after her quickly getting into the Impala before the crazy raven could attack again. He saw movement on the roof of the building and saw the raven walking down it. Dean laughed loudly and gave him the finger before pulling out of the parking lot.

"That damn bird is still following me," Dean announced as he entered the motel room looking around for Sam and didn't see him. "Sammy?"

"What?" Sam answered as he opened the door to the bathroom and hobbled out getting better with the crutches.

"I said that damn bird is still following me. Lunch is here."

"I doubt it's the same raven Dean. You know you can't really tell one from the other."

"Oh, I'm sure of it. He's got it in for me."

"Honestly Dean, I think you're overreacting over this." Sam made his way to the table and carefully sat down, keeping his leg straight.

"You want beer or water?" Dean asked ignoring Sam's doubts.

"Water, since I'm still taking pain meds."

"I got you those god-awful veggie chips you like." Dean placed a sub in front of Sam and a bag of veggie chips. "Oh baby, come to papa…" Dean cooed as he picked up his double meat sub and took a bite. "Oh man…" he hummed in delight.

"I would say get a room, but we're in one," Sam told him as he watched Dean over enjoying his sub. He took a bite of his own sub and nodded his head that it was really good. He chewed slowly and savored the tastes while Dean seemed to devour his, licking his fingers when he was done. Sam threw a napkin at him and frowned.

"Now that hit the spot," Dean sighed in contentment as he rubbed his stomach and stood up. He happened to glance out the window toward the Impala and saw something on the ground near a tire. "What the…" he started as he stepped to the window so he could see better. What he was seeing had him dropping his mouth open as he stared at the raven and what it was doing. It had the cap for the tire in its beak and was using its claw to push on the tire stem to let the air out of the tire. "Sonofabitch!" Dean yelled as he ran for the door and jerked it open. By the time he was by the Impala the raven was gone and his tire was almost flat. "You've done it now, messing with my Baby like this!" he yelled into the air shaking his fist at the birds around him. He stomped back inside, slamming the door behind him.

"What was that all about?" Sam asked not trying to get up to see what Dean had seen.

"That raven was letting the air out of a tire on my Baby," Dean fumed. "I'm going to take her to the gas station below here and put air back into the tire. Thank god it didn't go completely flat. Are you good?"

"Yeah, I'll just finish my lunch and lay back down," Sam replied popping a chip in his mouth.

"Later dude," Dean said. He grabbed the room key and headed outside to the Impala. After cranking her, he slowly drove it to the corner and pulled into the gas station parking lot looking around for the air. When he saw it, he pulled up to the hose and got out to fill the tire with air. He checked the others and heard the cawing and squawking nearby and zeroed in on the raven.

Dean watched it take off and jumped in the car to follow it, wanting to see where it went. He didn't know if it was wild or someone's pet, since it seemed there were a lot of people around with strange pets. He had seen owls, ferrets, snakes, lizards, rats, besides cats and dogs. He tried to steer clear of the weirdos whenever he could when he was out.

He tried to keep an eye on the raven as he drove down the street trying to avoid the traffic that was out. When the raven changed direction, it flew into another motel parking lot and disappeared into a room somewhere on the third or fourth floor. Dean found a parking spot and got out looking up swearing when he couldn't determine where the raven went.

Deciding it was worth a shot, he headed for the entrance to the motel/conference center. He looked around the lobby and saw sighs for some sort of magic shows that were happening Halloween night. One of the signs had a raven with its wings spread out and knew it had to be the bird he was looking for.

He saw a sign for the bar and headed that way. After taking a seat at the bar, he ordered a beer before checking out the other customers. He nearly choked on his beer when a sexy looking woman walked into the bar. She was dressed in an 'Elvira' looking black dress that was low cut, showing off her cleavage, and clung to her in all the right places. Her ebony hair hung part way down her back and one side was pulled up in an old fashion clasp. Her luscious lips were painted blood red and her dark eyes sparkled with mischief and amusement. She was drop dead gorgeous but didn't seem to flaunt it.

"Hello there, care to join me?" Dean asked her as she approached the bar.

"Why not," she replied taking a seat beside him.

"What would you like to drink?" Dean asked motioning to the bartender.

"Sparkling water with a twist of lime," she replied in a sultry, sexy voice.

"Coming right up," the bartender noted turning to get her drink.

"Do you live here or are you visiting for these silly events?"

"Actually, I'm a magician," she replied accepting the drink the bartender sat on a napkin in front of her. She picked it up and gingerly took a sip.

"Interesting," Dean replied as he watched her taste her drink. He saw droplets of moisture pool together and run down the glass to drip onto her chest. He couldn't take his eyes off the drop as it trailed down her chest and in between her breast.

"Like what you see?" she questioned Dean with a saucy smirk.

"What," Dean startled as he blushed at being caught staring at her breasts. "Yeah, I like everything I see. So, are you one of the acts performing tomorrow night?"

"I am."

"You wouldn't happen to use a raven in your act, do you?"

"Oh, you mean Morris. He is a character," she laughed softly. "I bought him from a guy who used to hire him out for television shows because he can do tricks. I thought Morris made my costume roleplay for the act more believable. He really is a smart bird." She looked at Dean through thick lashes sizing him up.

"I've read that somewhere. About raven's having the largest brains," Dean told him. "How long have you been doing this…Act thing?"

"Oh, about seven years. I always loved magic and I had to figure out the tricks. The more complicated the trick, the more intriguing it was. I would take it apart until I knew how it worked and then I would improve it, making it my own."

"You must really be into that kind of thing."

"Oh, I'm interested in a lot of things," she cooed turning to Dean as she stood. She rested her hand on Dean's thigh very close to his manhood, making goose bumps pop out on his body. "Thank you for the drink," she offered leaning close giving him a good view of her ample breast and planting a kiss on the side of his mouth. She trailed her hand up his body as she walked away. The woman paused and looked over her shoulder at Dean and spoke, "You should come and see my act. You never know what might happen." With that she walked out of the bar swinging her hips in a suggestive fashion.

Dean almost swooned when she placed her hand on his leg and squeezed gently. Her kiss sent sparks through his body and stirred something deep within him. He watched her walk away and wanted to follow but thought better. He didn't want the other patrons to see the bulge in his jeans as he tried to get his body under control. He quickly downed his beer and motioned for another so give himself a few minutes. He couldn't understand why he got so tongue tied and acted like a teenager instead of his sexy, outgoing, manly self.

"Where have you been?" Sam demanded when Dean walked back into the motel room over an hour later.

"I trailed the bird," Dean sighed as he thought of the raven haired woman.

"And was it wearing lipstick?" Sam asked when he saw the red smear on the side of Dean's mouth. "Did you get all smoochy with it?" he teased.

"What are you talking about?" Dean asked looking at Sam like he was crazy.

"Someone was wearing red lipstick."

"Oh," Dean replied as he wiped his mouth and saw the smear of red. "You think you're up to a night out tomorrow?"

"Why? Are we going to a Halloween party?" Sam asked arching an eyebrow since he knew how Dean felt about this holiday.

"Dude! Bite your tongue! No, we're going to a magic show. I got us tickets."

"Is that part of the convention that's here?"

"I guess. There're several acts that are going to be performing."

"Would be nice to get out of this room for a few hours."

"Yeah, it'll be good for you. I'm going to take a shower." A long cold shower, he thought to himself.

Sam watched his brother wondering what was up with him. He didn't usually take a shower in the middle of the day, and he had a goofy look on his face that wasn't Dean. Sam wasn't sure if he should ask if he was okay and decided to let it slide. He was sure Dean hadn't told him everything that happened while he was gone and got the feeling he wasn't going to.
