I don't own Ed Edd n Eddy and Attack on Titan. I only own OC's.
Sorry if you find any grammar mistakes. I'm still learning English because it's not my first language.
Blagoj Pejov1: I hope you'll like the rest of the story! :)
MaddyBunny10: The Kankers sisters will show up in this story. I'm planning every EEnE character to make an appearence in this story. Sarah and Jimmy's appearance will be put in a flashback, though because of the two of them dying in the previous chapter.
Brendan: Yeah. Poor Ed. Rolf will show up in this story. I'm planning every EEnE character to make an appearence in this story. Sarah and Jimmy's appearance will be put in a flashback, though because of the two of them dying in the previous chapter.
MisterFerris: I'm glad you liked the first chapter. I hope you will like the rest of his story! The ending of this story depends on how the anime will handle the ending. If it will follow the ending of the manga, then this story will end like the manga. If it will have it's own original ending, then this story is going to have it's ending.
Double D couldn't remember the last time when he was so afraid. He wasn't even sure if he was ever afraid as much as he was afraid today. After his friends split away from him to find their families, he quickly followed their example and made his way back to his house as quickly as he could in a search of his family, ignoring how much he was out of breath by the time he arrived at his destination.
When he arrived at his house which was completely abandoned by the time of his arrival, he looked around himself in a nervous attempt to find his parents. When he found out there were nowhere to be seen near his house just like he hoped for, he shook his head and felt how his breathing was becoming less steady and more terrified as he was aware he won't be able to survive all of this on his own without anyone's help.
His eyes widened in suprise when he felt someone place their hand on his right shoulder. He looked over his shoulder and saw his parents standing behind him with worried looks on their faces. His breathing steadied as words couldn't describe how much relieved he was when he saw his parents and they seemed to be relieved as much as he was when they found him.
Not wasting any time, his father Vincent picked him up and took him on a piggyback after seeing how out of breath his son was, knowing how short they were on time right and knowing how faster it would be for them if he just took him on a piggyback and carried him to their next destination. After Double D asked his parents where they were taking him, his mother Gloria explained him the boats at the docks were evacuating people to Wall Rose.
As his parents continued to make their way to the boats, Double D was allowed to observe the chaos the entire district was in right now. The people screamed in horror as the Titans continued to roam though the city, rushing past one another in an attempt to reach the boats before they will depart without them. The Garrison soldiers did their best to coordinate the mass evacuation, but it was very difficult for them because of how many people they had to evacuate to the other side of the wall.
Upon arriving at the docks which took him and his parents a few moments, Double D saw a boat which was filled with people who were waiting for it to start taking them to safety and a crowd of even more terrified people waiting to be allowed into it by the Garrison soldiers. After making their way through the crowd of terrified people, Double D and his parents found themselves on board.
Vincent took his son off his back right after their entire family boarded the boat, no longer having to carry him as he knew he and his family were safe on this boat. The family of three started to make their way through the crowd of terrified people, trying to find place where they could sit down as Double D looked around himself, trying to see if any of his family boarded the boat before him.
Fortunely, he didn't have to look for familiar faces for long as he spotted Armin and Armin's grandfather sitting next to each other among the crowd of people close to the front of the boat. Double D felt how a slight smile formed on his face and how a wave of relief went through his body when he saw one of his friends on the boat, hoping the rest of them would be on the boat too.
"Armin!" He called out for his friend in an attempt to gain his attention as Armin looked in his direction after hearing a familiar voice call out for him.
"Double D!" Armin shouted the moment he set his eyes on his friend, relieved to see him on the boat as he got up and ran over to his friend, embracing him in a hug, "I'm so happy you made it in time! I was so worried about you and the others!" He released Double D from the hug and looked over his friends shoulder, hoping to see the rest of his friends standing behind him, "What about the rest? Are they with you?"
"No." Double D shook his head. He didn't ask Armin about their friends whereabouts because he already knew they weren't here. Otherwise Armin wouldn't have asked him this question, "I was hoping they'd be here."
Armin looked at him with a saddened look on his face, "Oh, I see."
"Don't worry, you two." Vincent said to comfort the two boys, understanding they were worried for their friends as he put his right hand on his sons right shoulder, "I'm sure they will make their way to the boat soon. Eddy's older brother is a soldier, isn't he? I'm sure he is keeping them safe whenever they are right now."
Double D and Armin nodded at Vincent to show him their understanding of his words. His words didn't do much to comfort them, though as they remained worried for their friends. The only things that would make them stop worrying for them would be seeing them board the boat. Armin sat down next to his grandfather shorty after as Vincent and Gloria sat down next to the blond haired boy.
Double D didn't sat down with them, though and instead remained on his feet. He walked over to the edge of the boat and looked over railing of the boat. He set his eyes on the dock which was filled with people who were trying to board the boat. He continued to look over the railing anxiously for the next few moments, hoping to see his friends among the people who were boarding the boat, praying for it.
His eyes widened a few moments later when he noticed a few familiar figures appear on the dock. Eren and Mikasa were with Hannes, Eddy was with his brother and Ed was with Duncan, the adults talking with a Garrison soldier. A smile of pure relief grew on his face upon seeing his friends being taken to safety, now knowing they didn't die among many other people.
His relief was short lived, though. It didn't took him long to notice the expressions his friends had on their faces right now. All of them, especially Eren and Ed, looked completely broken and traumatized by whatever had happened to them. It was when he noticed a couple of people missing. Where was Carla? Where were Ed's parents and Sarah? Where were Eddy's parents? What happened to them? Could they have died? Double D felt how his heart almost stopped beating when the thought of his friends losing their families today flew through his mind.
"Armin." He called out for his blond haired friend, a concerned look forming on his face after seeing the looks his friends had on their faces as Armin looked up at him, "I can see Ed, Eddy, Eren and Mikasa."
"Really?!" Armin exclaimed with a relieved look on his face as he got up and looked over the railing at the people boarding the boat. A smile formed on his face when he saw Ed, Eddy, Mikasa and Eren being taken to safety. He raised his hand and was about to wave them over, but just like in Double D's case, his relief was cut short when he saw the haunted traumatized looks his friends had on their faces. Judging from the looks on their face, it was quite easy for him to realize what happened to the people who weren't with his friends right now, "Eren... Eddy... Ed..."
"Don't talk to them just now." Armin's grandfather looked down sadly, having already figured out what happens to their families as Vincent and Gloria silently stared at the traumatized children in pity, "Those poor souls. You can tell what happened to them."
As Armin and Double D continued to watch their friends from their position on the boat with worried expressions on their faces, waiting for them to board the boat, Ed, Eddy, Eren and Mikasa stood next to each other, with Ed who was seconds away from bursting into tears looking completely unresponsive to everything around him as Matthew, Duncan and Hannes were talking with a Garrison soldier none of them did not knew the the name of.
The Garrison soldier nodded his head at Matthew, Hannes and Duncan before Matthew turned around to face the traumatized kids, "This is where we're splitting up. Listen to everything that this man tells you. He will make sure all of you will board the boat."
"What?" Eddy exclaimed after his brother mentioned he won't be joining him and his friends on the boat. He still had tears marks on his cheeks from when he found about from his brother about their parents death, "What about you, bro? You're not coming with us?"
"I can't come with you, pipsquek." Matthew told his younger brother, "I wish I could come with you, but I have to stay here and help. You'll ride with your friends and follow them to shelters. Watch out for your friends. They're going to need you now. Remember, no matter what happens to me today, I love you, pipsquek."
Eddy gave his brother an uncertain worried nod of his head in response, "O-Okay. I love you too, bro.."
Matthew gave his brother a bitter assuring smile on his face as he unsheathed his blade before turning away from his brother and running into the city. Hannes and Duncan wasted no time in quickly following him into the city. Eddy watched his brother leave with Duncan and Hannes with a worried look on his face for a few seconds before he, Hannes and Duncan vanished from his view among the crowd of civilians.
"Come on." The Garrison soldier said to the group of kids he was just left with by Matthew, Duncan and Hannes as Ed who had a tearful look on his face grabbed Eddy's hand, doing everything he could to make sure he won't be separated from his friend until they will be safe taken away from the Titans to safety, "Before this boat fills up."
After making clear through a crowd of people trying to board the boat leaving for Wall Rose, the soldier was able to secure the safe travel for Eren, Mikasa, Ed and Eddy to Wall Rose. The group of four kids walked through the crowd of people on the boat before Armin and Double D appeared in their view. Upon seeing Double D and Armin, Ed immediately let go off Eddy's hand and ran over to his last two friends after seeing they managed to make it to the boat in time.
Double D and Armin's eyes widened as Ed wrapped his arms around them. Armin and Double D gasped for breath because of how tightly Ed hugged them as Ed looked up at his friends, revealing his tear stained face to them. He released them from his embrace and went to sit near Double D's parents and Armin's grandfather, the images of the Titans feasting on his entire family proceeding to fly through his head.
Ed leaned against the wall behind him and pulled his knees into his face, beginning to sob into them over the loss of his parents and his little sister. Eddy and Double sat down next to him, knowing their friend needed them right now. Double D sat down on Ed's right while Eddy sat down on Ed's left. Eddy slowly wrapped his arm around Ed in an attempt to comfort him, even though he knew how nothing he would do would make his friend feel better right now as Ed placed his head on his shoulder, soaking his clothes with his tears.
Eddy gritted his teeth as he bursted into tears himself, releasing the tears he was keeping in his eyes for all this time. The only thing he could do now was hope his brother would survive whatever he was happening in the city right now. Eren and Mikasa remained silent and just stared ahead of them, horrified at the loss of their mother as Double D and Armin looked at all of their friends in pity, knowing how hard the loss of their parents must have been for all of them
The opening starts with flames which quickly disappearied and showed the face of Wall Rose.

Matthew, Hannes and Duncan had just arrived at the inner gate of Wall Maria where many of the Garrison soldiers were stationed right now as they readied the cannons to hold off the Titan. A few civilians ran past the Garrison soldiers and made their way through the opened gate to the other side of the wall, having decided going directly through gate to the other side of the wall was less risky than worrying about getting a spot on the boat. The Garrison soldiers were scattered around the area, trying to help anyone they could and set up their defenses.
"Get those cannons loaded!" The head officer shouted in frustation at the team that was supposed to bring the ammo for the cannons. He glanced ahead of himself when he heard a loud noise in the distance and saw a single Titan knock down a stone arc. It looked very unbothered by the destruction it just created as it continued to move forward. The structure only slowed it down for a second.
Hannes and Duncan watched how the cannons where being lined up from where they stood, panting as neither of them were used to this much running as Matthew told them he will try to help them and zipped towards the nearest building. Hannes and Duncan exchanged glances after Matthew left them, knowing where they should head next. They ran past the Garrison soldiers who were lining up the cannons, finding themselves on the other side of the wall several seconds later.
"Hurry! They're closing in on us!" The head officer yelled as even more people made their way through the gate to safety, making sure to stay out of the cannons firing range as they didn't want to get blasted to bits while his men loaded cannons with shells, "Fire!"
The first canon shell was fired as soon as the head officer voice his order. The shell flew towards the Titan moving towards them at great speed but it unfortunely flied by it's target head and hit the building on the side. The cannons were fired a few more times, trying to take this one Titan down, but unfortunely all of their efforts were for nothing because of the cannons inaccurate aim.
"You idiot!" The head officer shouted at his subordinate angrily as Matthew zipped up to the top of a roof and readied his blades, waiting for the right moment to attack this Titan with the intention of striking it down once and for all, "What are you aiming at?!
"B-But sir, this thing doesn't have that kind of accuracy!" His subordinate stuttered out nervously.
"Right now, I don't give a crap! Just load the next shell!" The head officer shouted in frustation as his men wasted no time in loading the cannons again. A noise behind them caught their attention and they all turned around towards it, seeing how the gate was slowly lowering itself down.
"What the hell are they doing?" Matthew asked himself, the view of the gate slowly closing itself making him change his intentions as few soldiers abandoned their posts and started to make their way towards the gate. Right now, he had to make sure the gate won't be closed.
He zipped his way through the inner gate, reaching the other side of the wall as soon as he could. Upon reaching it, he saw Duncan standing there with a few other soldiers he did not know the name of.
"Where's Hannes?" He asked the moment he set his eyes on Duncan, immediately noticing absence of the blond haired man.
"He went to stop them from closing the gate." Duncan explained.
"I'll go help him." Matthew nodded in understanding and quickly took off running, "You stay here and keep an eye on everything."
Duncan nodded to show his understanding of the order, "Will do."
Matthew quickly made his way to where the gate controls were and saw how two soldiers were trying to shut the gate. Hannes was standing in the front them, trying to stop them from shutting the gate.
"Don't close it!" Hannes shouted at the two soldiers, "Wait a little more! Many people are still in the city!"
"Who said to shut the gate?" Matthew added, "Do you realize how many lives will be lost if you close the gate now?"
"If they break through this gate, we'll lose more than a single city to the Titans!" The soldier argued with the Survey Corps member, "We'll lose the entire territory within this wall!"
"But that doesn't mean we can let these people die!" Hannes retorted as Matthew glared angrily at the two soldiers who were trying to shut the gate while four soldiers ran into the control room.
"Close the gate!" One of those four soldiers shouted, "The Titans are coming!"
With his mind already made up, the soldier that was arguing with Hannes and Matthew gave the order to shut the gate. "Get that gate shut!"
Matthew opened his mouth but was cut off before he could say anything when he was grabbed from behind by the two soldiers. He titled his head to the side and saw the same thing happening to Hannes. He struggled to break himself free from their grasp as he shouted, "What are you doing? Let me go!"
"Don't do it! Hey!" Hannes shouted as he was being restrained by two other soldiers.
All the struggling between the soldiers stopped when they heard a loud noise. Everyone stopped what they were doing to listen to it and heard thunderous footsteps echoeding from inside the district. All the soldiers in the area, no matter if they were behind the wall or operating the cannons inside the wall heard this those footsteps as well, all this noise making most of them even more scared.
"What it this?" Duncan asked himself as a horrified look formed on his face when he heard those footsteps sounding on the other side of the wall, already suspecting that whatever it was, it was going to bring more trouble to deal with than they already have.
It was when a Titan walked into the fully view of the soldiers operating the cannons from behind the building. This Titan was different from the common ones. It stood at 15-meters tall with pale yellow armoured plates covering its body instead of regular skin. The armour was shaped like that of a knight's, with an armoured chest plate covering most of its torso, pauldrons, bracers, and plates on the back of its hands and knuckles. The waist and crotch were also covered. Its lower half had armoured plates on its thighs, shins, calves and feet. The Titan had short, white hair, its face completely protected by a face plate with a long slit stretching from cheek to cheek, only showing glaring, golden eyes.
It was when another loud footsteps could be heard as another Titan made it's way into everyone's view. It had blue hair and was carrying an entire house on it's shoulder like it was nothing. The soldiers grew even more terrified upon seeing this Titan because none of them have even heard about a Titan capable of lifting up entire houses. The Two Titans looked at each other and exchanged looks, almost as if they were communicating with each other. All of the soldiers took a step back, feeling intimidated.
The blue haired Titan got itself into a proper stance, preparing itself before throwing the house it was holding for the past several moments at the soldiers operating the cannons. Seeing this and knowing how badly it would end up for them if they found themselves in the area where the house will land, the soldiers immediately started fleeing towards the gate. Most of them unfortunely never reached their destination. The house hit the ground a few seconds later, before the soldiers could reach the safety of the other side of the gate, the pieces of the house which covered the entire area either killing or mortally injuring most of the soldiers.
The Armored Titan acted like it knew it was it's time to act. It crouched, getting into a runner's stance and charged head-on towards the gate at full speed. The force of its charge sent shockwaves, cracking buildings and kicking up pieces of the ground. The few soldiers who were fortunate to survive the impact of the house crashing into the ground, because they were standing closer to the gate than everyone else started fleeing towards the closing gate, not even having a chance to fire the cannons at this Titan as they were all destroyed when the house crashed into the ground.
"Run!" One of those few lucky soldiers bellowed the moment he made his way to the other side of the wall, having barely managed to make his way there before the gate was fully closed as the Armored Titan destroyed everything it's path, it's mouth and nostrills producing a large amount of steam, "Hurry! The Titans are coming! Close the gate!"
As soon as the gate was fully closed, the soldiers stopped in their tracks and panted, thinking they could a moment to breath a sigh of relief, thinking the gate was going to stop this Titan from reaching them. They were wrong. the Armored Titan charged through the gate. The gate was completely blown open and the impact of it sent people, bricks and boulders flying into the air.
Duncan was one of those unfortunate people who were sent flying into the air when the Armored Titan charged through the gate. He didn't even had a time to react when a large boulder was slammed right his face. It wasn't the only thing that hit him in flight. A lot of debris from the now destroyed gate hit him. By the time his unmoving body landed and slided across the ground, he was already covered in his own blood and bruises.
Matthew and Hannes rushed out of the place where the gate controls were to see what was going on outside after hearing all the noise the destruction of the gate made, followed by the six Garrison soldiers who restrained the two of them when the gate was closed. The group of eight soldiers froze in horror and disbelief when they noticed that the gate had been destroyed by the Armored Titan.
"They broke through the gate." Hannes muttered to himself in horror, his fear filled eyes staring at the now destroyed gate.
Matthew silently stared at the now destroyed gate in horror for a few seconds, knowing what it meant before noticing something or rather someone out of the corner of his eye. He titled his head to the side upon noticing it and his eyes widened when a bloodied unmoving body of Duncan laying in the distance among the rubble and the bodies of soldiers. He must have been knocked away when the Armored Titan broke through the gate. He quickly ran over to the long time friend of his family and crouched down in front of him, looking for any signs of life in him.
"Duncan. Come on. Wake up. Don't joke around right now. This isn't the time. Come on. Wake up." He said as he shook Duncan in a desperate attempt to wake him up. When Duncan didn't woke up, he pressed his hand against his neck, looking for pulse, finding none. Matthew lowered his head with a saddened look on his face, realizing someone who had been a good friend of his family for many years had just died, "No. Not you too."
He looked away from Duncan's lifeless body after finding out about his friends death and glared at the Armored Titan. The Armored Titan remained where it stood as it's faceplate slid down, showing its mouth. It growled and hissed a superheated jet of steam as Matthew stood up, holding his blades in his hands. He didn't attack the monstronity responsible for the destruction of the gate, knew it would be foolish of him to attack it right now as it would mean a certain death for him.
He knew there was only one thing he could do right now. The only thing he could do right now was to ensure he, Hannes and the remaining Garrison soldiers would make it out of this place alive. He shifted his attention away from them to his fellow soldiers and saw how the Garrison soldiers used their ODM gear and zipped their way onto the roof the nearby house, beginning to flee from the scene to save their own lives.
Hannes looked around himself after his fellow Garrison soldiers zipped their way onto the roof of the house, trying to spot him anywhere after he split up from the rest of the group. After setting his eyes on Matthew once he managed to find him among the destruction around them, Hannes quickly waved at him, telling him they had to leave without saying any words to him.
Matthew nodded at him to show him his understanding of his gestures. Not wasting any time, the two of them zipped their way into the roof of the nearby house, beginning to follow the other survivors of the destruction of the gate. As they continued to follow their fellow soldiers, Hannes looked at Matthew and asked him if he saw Duncan anywhere. The saddened look on Matthew's face was the only answer Hannes needed to get to understand the friend he was having a drink with before Shiganshina was breached did not survive.
After catching up to the Garrison soldiers, Hannes stopped in his tracks for a second and looked over his shoulder, taking one last look at the destroyed gate, seeing how many Titan have already made their way past it, "This is the end...?"
After watching the devasting destruction of the place they once called home from the boat which was taking them to Wall Rose, the people who were fortunate enough to find themselves on this boat before the gate was destroyed sat in silence and shivered in despair.
"It's over..." A man whimpered in despair, "Humanity will be devoured by the Titans..."
Eddy hugged his knees in worry, wondering where his brother was right now and if he even survived the destruction of the gate. He looked at his friends, wanting to know how they were handling what was happening right now. Double D, Armin and Mikasa were silent, Ed hugged his knees and started sobbing into them as there was simply no end to his tears of despair and mourning and Eren gripped his fist angrily, crying.
Eren clenched his bruised hands, shaking in anger as tears begun falling from his closed eyes into his hand. He stood up from the floor and marched to the edge of the ship, "I'll erase their existence from this world..."
"What's gotten into you, Eren?" Armin walked up to him and placed his hand on his shoulder as Double D followed him to Eren. He shoved his arm off without looking back, "Eren..."
"I'll kill them all!" Eren screamed, his voice filled with hatred and determination as he slammed his hands onto the railing. Armin and Double D gasped, seeing their friend's rage filled expression, "Not even a single one of them will be left!"
"Eren." Double D whispered in concern for his friend as Armin stared at Eren in silence, looking as much concerned for him as he was.
Ed, Eddy and Mikasa watched everything from their spots. Mikasa stayed silent, not saying anything about Eren's words as Ed paid no attention to them. He continued to sob his eyes out into his knees, the images of his destroyed house and what happened to his family continuing to fly through his head no matter how many times he tried to push those thoughts away. Eddy was a different history than them, though.
Eddy nodded his head, agreeing with everything Eren had just said. Everything that threatened him and the people he cares about, no matter if they were his family or friends, was going to die. He was going to make sure the people he cares about were going to be able to live long happy lives in in times where they won't have to worry about any life ending threat.
He was going to make sure of that.
No matter what.
After a long ride to Wall Rose, the boat finally made it's way to the safety of the next wall where the Garrison was waiting, shocked to see how many people have arrived. Everyone who just arrived in the boat was taken to the town just outside of Trost district, close to the outer gate. Once the ship was stopped and everyone were being let off, Armin's grandfather and Double D's parents took the six children to the refugee area.
Upon arriving at the refugee area, the survivors of the Titan attack at Wall Maria were given supper. The supper was rationed, though, meaning everyone only got enough food that would satisfy their needs for the current night. As the survivors ate their supper in silence, the Garrison soldiers cleared out the stables and old houses which will be used as temporary residences for the refugees.
It was night now and all of the refugees were trying to get some sleep after this very tough day for all of them. Eddy tossed around in his sleeping spot as he was unable to get some sleep tonight. The memories of everything that happened at Wall Maria today, starting with the appearance of the large Titan and the death of his parents and ending with the destruction of the gate continued to fly through his head, keeping him from sleeping.
He clenched his fist at the thought of his parents and their death, the very time he had ever interacted with them flying through his head. The last time he saw them was when he stormed out of his house after screaming at them angrily for trying to convince his brother to leave the Survey Corps and for reacting the way they did when they learned about his desire to follow his brother's footsteps.
He tightened his fist at the memory of his last interact with his parents. He shouldn't have screamed at them. He shouldn't have stormed out of the house. Perharps if he didn't storm out of the house, his brother wouldn't go on a walk with his parents and they wouldn't be crashed by the fragment of the wall. He really shouldn't have stormed out of his house...
His eyes slightly widened when he heard sobbing not too far from him, taking himself off his painful thoughts regarding his parents. He sat up in his sleeping spot and looked in the direction of this sobbing, wanting to know who it was, even though he already suspected who it was. He saw Ed crying to himself in his sleep as he was trying to fall asleep, failing terrible at doing so.
Eddy looked at his friend in pity after seeing how badly he was taking the loss of his entire family. He didn't even want to imagine what he would do if his brother shared his parents fate. He at least could hope his brother survived the fall of Wall Maria. Ed didn't even have this hope. One of the things he knew about Ed was the fact how much Ed loved his brother and his little sister, despise how they were treating him, especially Sarah and his mother.
Ed's crying didn't only caught Eddy's attention. It caught Double D's attention too. Double D looked towards where Ed was sleeping from where he was sleeping next to his parents and looked at his crying Ed in pity. Knowing his friend needed someone to be there for him right now, he slowly and quietly made his way to Ed. Seeing this, Eddy followed Double D's example.
The two of them reached Ed a few moments later, managing not to wake anyone up in the process and sat down next to him, Double D sitting on the right and Eddy sitting on the left. Ed opened his eyes when he heard how someone stopped next to him and saw his friends sitting on his sides. He wiped the tears off his cheeks and slowly sat straight up, looking between his friends.
"Double D. Eddy?" He quietly called out for his friends, finishing wiping the tear marks off his cheeks, "What are you doing here?"
"We heard you crying in your sleep and came to a mutual conclusion we had to come here." Double D explained to his friend with a gentle expression on his face, having something he wanted to say to him, "We just want you to know we're here if you need us. Us. Eren. Armin. Mikasa. My parents. Armin's grandfather. We're all here for you."
"I know what you're going through right now, Lumpy. I lost my parents too. I don't even want to know what I would do if I lost my brother alongside them." Eddy added, letting Ed know he wasn't alone in his mourning as he patted his back in a comforting manner, "We're here, Lumpy. No matter what. We're here for you."
For the first time since he saw how the Titans started feasting on the bodies of his family, Ed felt how a small smile grew on his face as he smiled at his friends, grateful they were here for him. He wrapped his arms around them and brought them closer to himself into a hug. His family may have been gone and nothing was going to bring them back, but he still had his friends and he was going to stay with them until his last breath, no matter.
The three friends stayed like this for a few moments, grateful and relieved they were still together and that they were not separated from each other by the fall of Wall Maria. No matter what, the three of them knew they could always count on having each other backs, just they always did. They knew they could count on Eren, Mikasa and Armin having their backs too.
After Ed released them from the hug a few moments later, the three of them laid down on the floor, eventually falling asleep next to each other, getting some well deserved sleep after this rough day.
It was morning and the sun was shining brightly at the horizon. With the sun shining and people waking up to start their day, the bells were rung to wake up refugees from Wall Maria. Double D slowly opened his eyes, not having trouble waking up because of him always being an early riser, even with him not being able to get as much sleep as he usually did last night.
He looked towards where his parents were sleeping last night, curious to know if they were still sleeping or not and saw that they were not there right now. They must have went to get the morning ration for all of them. He titled his head towards Eddy and Ed and saw both of them slowly waking up. Eddy groaned as he weakly opened his eyes as Ed let out a long yawn.
"Good morning, gentlemen." He offered his friend good morning.
"Yeah. Good morning to you too." Eddy yawned as he unlike Double D never considered him an early riser. It was a habit he knew he will have to get rid of soon if he wanted to join the military. He looked around himself, noticing a couple of familiar people missing, "Where are your parents? I can't see Armin and his grandpa too."
"They must have gone to get the morning ration for us." Double D replied and shifted his gaze to Mikasa who was still sleeping, "We should go wake up Eren and Mikasa. They will want to get their morning ration too."
"Okay." Ed nodded as he got himself on his feet as Eddy silently nodded, forcing himself to his feet.
The three friends walked over towards Mikasa and Double D crouched down in front of the black haired girl, beginning to gently shake her on the arm in an attempt to wake her up from her slumber. Eddy let out another tired yawn, waiting for himself to break out of his early morning state as Ed looked down at Mikasa, waiting for his other friend to wake up.
Mikasa's eyes slowly opened after Double D shook her for a few more times as she woke up from her slumber. She immediately noticed three boys standing above her, "Ed? Double D? Eddy?"
"It's morning. Mikasa. We have to get up." Eddy explained, despise feeling like he could use another hour of sleep himself as Mikasa nodded and sat up before rubbing her eyes.
"I'l go wake up Eren." Double D said as he walked over to Eren.
As soon as he made his way to his other friend, Double D narrowed his eyes at him in suprise, having noticed something on Eren's neck that wasn't there yesterday. This something was a bronze key hanging from Eren's neck. He broke himself out of his thoughts regarding this key when Eren tossed around his sleep like he was having a bad dream. Mikasa, Eddy and Ed came over to him and the four of them stared at Eren in worry for a few seconds before Mikasa went over to him and tried to wake him up. Eren woke up a moment later, letting out a gasp as soon as he opened his eyes.
"Eren, are you okay? You were crying in your sleep." Mikasa said in worry as Ed, Double D and Eddy looked down at their recently woken up friend in worry.
"You were tossing in your sleep to." Double D added, "Were you having a bad dream?"
Eren slowly sat on on his sleeping spot and brought his hand to his head, "I felt like I just saw Dad."
"No, you were dreaming." Mikasa reassured him.
"Your dad was nowhere near this place, pal." Eddy nodded in confirmation as Mikasa, Ed and Double D looked around themselves and saw that the place was completely empty, except for the five of them.
"I see." Eren replied as he looked down at himself, noticing the bronze key hanging down from his neck. He quickly tucked it under his shirt, hiding it from the view.
"Let's go." Double D said as Ed extended his hand towards Eren to help him out, "They're handing out rations."
Eren nodded as he grabbed Ed's hand, allowing him to bring him into his feet. The five of them walked out of the building they stayed in last night and saw many people gathered in long lines, waiting for food or standing around, minding their own business or eating their food after they were lucky enough to already receive it. As the five of them walked further into the place, Mikasa spoke up to let them know what kind of place it was.
"Apparently, this was their food storehouse." The black haired girl explained, "They've gathered all the ship refugees here."
The five of them walked into the courtyard as Eddy covered his eyes with his hands when the the sun ray's touched him, waiting for himself to get used to morning sun as Eren was shocked to see how many refugees were here right now. Double D and Ed looked around and saw the Garrison soldiers were only handing out bread to the people who were here right now.
The two of them saw a blond haired girl walk over to the Garrison soldier and receive a loaf of bread from him. They shifted their attention away from this girl a few seconds later. It was when they heard the sound of the people arguing with each other. The group of five friends turned their attention towards this argument and saw two men arguing about cutting in line. Ed, Double D and Eddy couldn't blame the two men for arguing, knowing they were struggling to survive right now just like the rest of them.
"We will still struggle for survival." Mikasa said, watching the two men grab at each other's collars.
Eddy sighed, knowing the black haired girl was right, "Yeah."
"Eren! Mikasa! Ed! Double D! Eddy!" The five of them turned to the source of the voice and saw Armin running over to them with something in his hands, "Look!" He stopped in front of them, holding out six loafs of bread, one for each of them, "My grandpa and Double D's parents got us some by saying it was for children!"
"Thank you." Mikasa smiled at Armin, taking one loaf of bread from him.
"Thanks, Armin." Eddy smiled at his blond haired friend as he took one loaf of bread for himself. Ed and Double D smiled at Armin in a grateful manner as they took one loaf of bread for themselves as Armin handed one loaf of bread to Eren who was still taking in the entire situation.
After each of them received a loaf of bread from Armin, Eren, Eddy, Mikasa, Double D and Ed noticed a Garrison soldier standing behind them. The soldier looked down at the group of six kids with an annoyed look on his face and scoffed at the sight of them before turning away and walking off.
"What's his problem?" Eren stared at the soldier in confusion, bothered by his behavior.
"You can't blame him. There's probably not enough food to go around." Armin explained, "And this is an entire day's worth."
"An entire day's worth?" Double D looked down at the loaf of bread in his hands and sighed, "I'm not suprised, considered how many refugee's are in here right now."
Armin nodded in agreement, "There was already a food shortage going on, plus the people here aren't treated as well as citizens on the outer wall."
As the group of friends looked down at the only pieces of food they would be getting today, a fight for food between four men broke out not too far from them. The two Garrison soldiers looked on at the scene with scorn, not doing anything to stop the fight between four refugee's.
"Why should we hafta give our food to some lousy outsiders?" The Garrison Soldier asked in disgust. He didn't want try to keep his voice down and the group of six kids heard him, "If the Titans got through the Wall, they could've at least eaten some more people, if you ask me."
Double D, Mikasa and Armin were shocked by his comment as Ed seemed hurt by it while Eren and Eddy glared at the soldier. Eddy thought about walking over to the soldier and telling him to shut up but backed away from it, knowing it would do nothing to help him and his friends. Eren wasn't going to let this soldier go off without a punishment.
"Eren!" Armin and Double D called out for their friend as Eren started to make his way towards the arrogant soldier.
"This is just gonna make the food shortage even worse." The soldier was too busy whining and didn't notice Eren walking over to him until he kicked him in the shin, "Oww! What the hell?!" The soldier looked down at Eren and hit him as soon as he set his eyes on him. His friend followed his example. He kicked him, sending Eren to the ground, "You damn brat!"
Eren glared at the two soldiers with tears in his eyes, "You don't know what it's like! You've never even seen it! You've never seen what the Titans do to people!"
"Shut up!" The soldier looked at Eren with an angered look on his face as he stepped towards him. He never reached Eren as Vincent and Gloria got themselves between them. Vincent punched the soldier straight in the face as Gloria kicked him in the groin. The soldier fell on his knees and clutched his nether regions in pain as he looked up at Gloria and Vincent, "You bastards!..."
"Don't you dare call us like this." Gloria glared down at ths soldier, "You have no right to do after you went to beat up a literal child and wished for the deaths of your fellow humans. You have no idea how it is out there. You didn't had to abandon everything you ever owned and didn't lose people you cared about to those monsters."
"You know we can report this to your commanding officer and file a report with the military police. Two Garrison Soldiers wishing for the deaths of their fellow humans wouldn't look good on your reports, would it? We have many witnesses here who will confirm this." Vincent added with a disgusted look on his face. The soldier bit his tongue in frustation as he decided to back down, knowing they had him here. Vincent and Gloria turned away from him and looked at Eren, "Eren. Go back to your friends. Now."
Eren quickly got himself back on his feet after seeing the serious look on their faces and backed away towards where Mikasa, Armin, Double D, Ed and Eddy were right now. Vincent and Gloria walked away from the scene to find Armin's grandfather as the soldier cursed under his breath and collected himself before getting himself back on his feet and walking away with his colleague.
After making his way back to his friends, the group of six kids made their way to the hallway in the storehouse where they would eat their loafs of bread in peace. Eddy and Eren sat down on the small brick wall as Armin, Mikasa, Ed and Double D stood in front of them.
"I'm going back to Wall Maria!" Eren declared to his friends, "I'm going to destroy every last Titan!"
Armin looked at his friend with a nervous look on his face, hoping he was joking, "Eren, you're joking, aren't you?"
"I'm serious!" Eren shouted as he hopped off the brick wall, "I'm not like those guys who do nothing but act tough inside the Walls!" He threw the bread angrily and Armin fumbled with it, trying not to drop it. "I don't need this crap!"
"Eren! You'll starve to death!" Armin pointed, trying to make his friend rethink his decision about the food.
"Eren." Double D added in an attempt to make Eren calm down, "My parents, Armin and Armin's grandfather got the food for us. The least you could do accept it."
"Doesn't it piss you off?!" Eren demanded, walking up to Armin and Double D, "It's because we take everyone's charity that we can't beat the Titans!" He looked over his shoulder at Eddy, knowing he will back him down in this discussion, "Right Eddy?" Eddy remained silent, saying nothing as Eren looked at him angrily, "What? You wanted to join the Survey Corps and now you're saying nothing? Don't tell me you've changed your mind after seeing a couple of Titans? Have you chickened out?"
"I didn't chick out. I'm still going to join the Survey Corps." Eddy argued, "But, you're not going to accomplish your goal by throwing away the food given to you. Where will the strength to kill the Titans come from?"
"It's impossible to beat the Titans!" Double D voiced his mind about this matter, "There is no beating them! How are we going to beat the Titan that was taller than the wall? How are we going to beat the Titan that destroyed the gate? If we try to do anything anything, we'll die!" Armin nodded in agreement to everything Double D just said as Double D continued, "Maybe staying behind the walls is the only way we can't avoid getting eaten by them."
Eddy looked suprised by Double D voicing his desire of staying inside the walls. Double D and Armin's dream of seeing the ocean was one of things which motivated him to join the Survey Corps once he will be old enough to join the military, "Double D? What about your dream of seeing the ocean? Are you just going to give up on it?"
"I don't want to give up on it but..." Double D was interrupted by Eren before he could finish the sentence.
"So you're just gonna grovel to them then?! That's not shameful to you?!" Eren shouted furiously at Double D.
"There's nothing we can do for now!" Armin argued, voicing his agreement to Double D's words.
"That's just an excuse! If you wanna live like livestock forever, go ahead! You weak pieces of shit!" Eren insulted Double D and Armin as Double D and Armin were visible affected and hurt by his words. Ed looked visibly hurt by his words too, even though those words weren't directed at him, because he hated to see his friends fight like that.
"Eren." Eddy looked at his friend in suprise, "I don't you went too far rig..."
Out of nowhere, Mikasa stepped in and punched Eren in the face before Eddy could finish his words to him, knocking him down to the ground. Ed, Eddy, Double D and Armin looked at her in suprise as Mikasa looked down at Eren.
"Mikasa?" Armin whispered in suprise.
"If Armin and Double's are a wimps, then so are we. Whether it was running from the Titans or fleeing the town, we didn't manage anything on our own. We even had help finding food today. There's no way such powerless people can defeat even a single one of those Titans." Mikasa spoke up to Eren as Eren sat up and looked at her in suprise before turning away from her in frustation, too stubborn to admit she was right, "Staying alive is what matters most. Just like your mother said."
She took the bread from Armin and walked past him and the rest. She stopped in front of Eren and shoved it into his mouth, force feeding him. Eren had tears of frustation going dowin his cheeks as Mikasa continued to forcefeed him, "I won't let you starve to death."
"Can we please don't fight again?" Ed asked as Double D and Armin looked at him, "I don't like seeing you guys fight."
Eddy looked down at Eren with a piftul look on his face, feeling sorry for his friend.
Several days later, the refugees from Wall Maria which included Ed, Double D, Eddy, Armin, Mikasa, Eren, Armin's grandfather and Double D's parents were sent to westelands were tasked with cultivating the wastelands to secure food. Unfortunely, despise all hard work the refugees put in securing the food wasn't enough as a food shortage was inevitable at this point.
The food shortage was the reason why in the following year of 846, the central government used many refugees in an operation to recover Wall Maria. Unfortunely, Armin's grandfather and Double D's parents were unfortunely a part of that operation which left the six kids all alone without any adult to watch over them. Over 250,000 people, nearly a fifth of the population were sent on this operation and only 200 of them survived. Although it wasn't much, their sacrifices did improved the food shortage situation for the rest of the population.
Once the news about how many people survived this operation and about how little of them survived it reached Ed, Double D, Eddy, Eren, Mikasa and Armin, the group of six kids tried to find Armin's grandfather and Double D's parents among the survivors. Unfortunately, they did not find them among the survivors which meant only one thing. Armin's grandfather and Double D's parents did not survived this operation.
As of now, the group of six friends gathered under a light of a storehouse. Armin was sitting against the wall as he hugged his grandfather's hat, crying into it as Double D sobbed into his hands as he unlike Armin didn't have anything to remember his parents as everything they could have given him stayed in their house in Shiganshina. Ed tried to comfort his friends, knowing what they were going through right now.
"It's all the Titans' fault." Eren said, standing next to Armin and Double D. Mikasa and Eddy stood in front of them, "If we could just subdue them, our place in the world could be ours again. Armin and Double D..." He sat down next to Armin, "I'm going to apply for the military next year. I'm going to gain the strength to fight the Titans!"
"Me too." Eddy nodded in agreement, clenched his fists, "I will make sure that all dangers to humanity will be wiped out and that people no longer have to worry about their lives."
"I will join too." Ed said, "I don't want other people to lose their parents and little sisters to those monsters just like I did."
Armin stared at his grandfather's hat for a few more seconds before speaking up, "Me too."
"Armin?" Eren looked at his friend in suprise as Eddy looked equally as shocked.
Armin looked at his friends with determination, feeling the need of avenging his grandfather, "Me too."
"I'll go, as well." Mikasa said as Eren looked at her in shock.
"Mikasa, you don't need to!" Eren told her, "You said it yourself, staying alive is what's important!"
"Yes, that's why I'm doing it. So you won't die," Mikasa stated.
"I'll join too." Double D said, wiping the tear marks off his cheeks. He knew how risky it was of him to join the military because of his weak physical condition, but he didn't want to be separated from the only family he had left in this world, "I'll get stronger. I will."
The group of six fell silent for a moment before Eren stood up to speak to his friends, "Alright. The six of us, then."
The six of them exchanged glances and silently made a promise to each other to grow stronger, knowing it was the end of their lives as just civilians.
Welp, here we go with another chapter.
The first episode of Chainsaw Man came out and it certainly lived up to the hype I got for this anime after watching the trailers and hearing from the people who read the manga about how good it is. The action was great, the character design was great, the voice actors were awesome, and the animation was amazing. I'm really looking forward to see what happens next (I'm going blind for this anime as I didn't read the manga.)
Hope it wasn't so bad. See you in another chapter.
