Chapter Three

Getting through the Days

The following day, Diablo awoke to see light through one of the windows in the basement they slept in.

He stretched out his wings and stood up before walking over to a box and stood on it so he could look out the window.

Pushing a curtain aside, he could see the sun was setting and he knew once it got dark, he could go out and hunt.

He looked at his sleeping disciples and smirked.

"Once we've fully rested and we are safe to go again, we will find more victims!" he thought.

When he and the others had attacked that Nazi family, they had managed to swipe some address books where they found names and addresses of other members of their evil family and supporters, and they planned to go and torment them.

"There is no place to hide!" he thought "No place to hide at all!"

Looking back at his disciples, he saw they were all still asleep, and Regan was curled up snuggled against Rex as the Doberman had one arm over her as if protecting her.

"I'll give it a couple of days, and then we'll hunt again!" he looked back on the window and smirked before closing the curtain.

Earlier that day….

Angela stood at the till as she served her customer.

"Thirteen dollars please!" she said as the man on the other side tapped his plastic card on the machine and he was handed his food.

"Thanks love, have a good day!" the man smiled.

"You too!" Angela smiled, yet it was forced.

She was starting to feel bored standing at the till for the past hour since her supervisor had put her in charge there.

She wondered if she would get the chance to move away so she could think about something else as well as stop the fake friendly face as it felt like a workout to keep that same smile on her face.

"Angie!" she heard a female voice from the side much to her relief "Let Tamsin take over, need some help back here!"

"Coming!" Angela called as she typed in a few codes then turned from the till so a young lady with light tanned skin and blonde braids in her hair walked over to the till.

"Thanks!" Tamsin winked as Angela smiled back and walked to the back room where her supervisor, a plump woman with purple hair in a high ponytail nodded at her.

"I need your help with these supplies thanks love!" she said.

"No worries!" Angela replied.

"Thank goodness!" she thought as she followed her supervisor to the back of the shop, "I was getting so sick of just standing there!"

"What do you need help with Penny?" she asked.

"Just to get these supplies inside and sorted babes!" Penny called and she walked over to some plastic boxes filled with bread, vegetables, and other ingredients.

"No worries!" Angela said then started to lift the boxes to take them inside.

After about five minutes, Angela's attention to brought to the front of the shop when she heard angry voices.

"I'm not being served by a Mexican!"

"I'm not Mexican, I'm Puerto Rican."

"Same difference! Anyway, I'm not being served by you!"

"Tamsin!" Angela thought worried and after as quickly and as carefully as she could, she put the box down and went to the front of the shop where she saw a man no older than his early twenties and wearing blue dungarees and a red and white checked shirt was pointing his finger at a rather distressed Tamsin.

"I'm not being served by a dirty beaner!" the man shouted as a couple of other people stood behind him looking shocked yet didn't do a thing to come to Tamsin's defence.

Angela narrowed her eyes as her blood boiled.

"Leave her alone!" she shouted at the man "She works here, and she has a right to feel safe in this place and not to be intimidated by you! You Bully!"

The man's eyes widened, and he looked from Tamsin to Angela, his eyes seem to pop right out of his sockets and his teeth were bared.

Angela felt scared and she thought he was going to go for her, but Penny soon arrived and bellowed at the man causing everyone to jump out of their skin.

"GET OUT!" Penny screamed "If you think you can insult my staff, you're wrong!" she then strode over, her fists clenched, and the man's anger soon turned to fear, and he started to back towards the door whilst the other customers got out of the way of this large form of Penny striding over like a raging bull.

"Not such a big man now, are you?" Penny shouted, "You turn into a snivelling coward when you're confronted by someone who can fight back!"

The man was indeed terrified, and Angela thanked her lucky stars she wasn't in Penny's way.

For as long as she had known the woman, Penny was a good supervisor and was always in someone's corner when they needed it, but if anything made her angry, you better run for cover!

The Man soon made it to the door and ran outside as fast as he could and the staff behind the counter clapped and cheered, and the other customers looked impressed as well as made a mental note not to mess with Penny.

"Well done, Penny!" Angela praised then looked at Tamsin.

"You okay?" she asked.

"I... I think so." Tamsin said a little shaken as another employee patted her shoulder.

"If you want to take the rest of the day off you may?" Penny offered.

"I'll be alright Penny." Tamsin replied gratefully "Though, I wouldn't mind a sit down?"

"No problem!" Penny replied, "You can sit in the back office and return when you're ready!"

"I'll take over!" a male employee volunteered, a man in his late thirties with curly red hair.

"Thanks Wilson!" Penny called as she went behind the counter and lead Tamsin to the office whilst Angela poured a coffee and brought it over.

"I'm really sorry that happened Tamsin." Penny comforted as she led Tamsin into the office and Angela gave Tamsin the coffee which she took gratefully.

"It's alright." Tamsin sighed "It's not like anything I'd had before, I get abuse wherever I go."

"Doesn't mean you should have to put up with it, babe!" Penny glared "I will make a note of this and inform the manager as well as the head office, we can't have behaviour like this in our shop."

"To right we don't." Angela agreed then caught sight of a newspaper on the desk which she picked up and she was drawn to the front page.

"What you found Angie?" Penny asked to which Angie pointed at the front page

'Neo Nazi Family attacked in their own home!'

Tamsin looked up from sipping her coffee and blinked.

"Is that the current issue?" she asked to which Angie nodded and started to read the article out loud.

'Neighbours have been left both scared as well as believing that karma had hit the Anderson Family four nights ago.

The Andersons were a Neo Nazi family who were not afraid to make their bigotry known to their neighbours who often complained about their behaviour and often petitioned to have them evicted.

But it seemed that the powers that be had plans for this family when they were discovered to have been attacked in their home.

According to police sources as well as the victims' statements, it would seem the attackers were dressed in animal costumes, had broken into their home, and held them at knife point before tying them down and torturing them including having words carved into their skin'

After interviewing the victims who all seemed to be a state of shock as well as terror as they kept jabbering and talking about how they were attacked by creatures that look neither human nor wild animal.

The only evidence that remained were a few black and white feathers as well as some bits of hair that forensics are trying to identify, and the police are planning to interview the family further once they have undergone treatment for their horrific if not baffling injuries.'

"Jesus!" Penny breathed "And where they were attacked is roughly five miles from here!"

Tamsin was silent.

"I wonder if that bigot you kicked out earlier is aware of this?" Angela asked, "It sounds similar to some attacks I heard on the news in Chicago."

"Oh yes, the Straight Truths Baptist Church!" Penny exclaimed "They disbanded after a rather nasty attack on them where their church was burnt down, and several people were seriously injured and two were killed!"

"I remember they kept saying that they were attacked by mutants, or some kind of monsters claiming they were Disciples and here to punish the wicked." Tamsin said.

Angela read the paper again and placed it back on the desk where Penny had a look.

"You don't believe it was Monsters or Mutants, do you?" she asked.

"No." Penny said, "But I got an open mind."

"From what I remember, some of the victims were given drugs when they were attacked, so what they saw could have been when they were under the influence." Angela said, "I've heard of such things."

Tamsin looked nervous.

"Do you think we should worry about this? Especially if the attack was rather near?" she asked.

"I'd be lying if I said no." Penny replied, "But if these…people are only targeting those who are bullies and bigots like those attacked in Chicago, or these Neo Nazi family, then maybe we're safe."

"I'd take no chances." Tamsin gulped.

Angela just shrugged.

"I don't believe in monsters or anything like that." She said, "But I will be careful, I just hope mum and dad aren't going to go over the top, that is if they don't know anything about it already?"

Penny put the paper down.

"Well, we can't waste time thinking what if or anything hon, we better get back to work." She said, "You going to be okay for a bit Tamsin?" she asked, still concerned after the incident earlier.

"I'll be fine." Tamsin said truthfully, "I'll just finish this coffee and I'll be alright to get back to work."

"If you're sure?" Penny asked, "Just say if you feel upset again or anything else, okay?"

Tamsin nodded and Penny and Angela went back to work hoping there would be no more trouble for the rest of the shift.

Poor Tamsin, yet she's brave and strong enough to continue her shift despite that nasty experience, and she's lucky to have colleauges that come to her defence!

Needless to say, I would love Penny as a friend and know a few people who are just like her, tough and intimadating but very protective of others!

And it's true what she says, Bullies are cowards.

Also, Angela's aware of the attacks by Diablo and his Disciples after reading about the attack on the Neo Nazi family in the newspaper, how many of you think that if Tamsin's Bully isn't careful he might just get swooped on by Diablo? Well, only time will tell!

Again, I say it before, even though I use such slurs in my stories, it is all part of the plot, and I can only stress that if any of you readers are victims of bullying or you know someone who in the same situation, please talk to someone you trust and stick up for victims if you witness them in a crisis, whether they be a friend or a stranger, don't let the bullies win!
