At the Height's Alliance 1-A building, the next morning I woke up in my Dad's room and quickly made my way upstairs to my room to get ready for the day after taping a note that says 'Under house arrest' on both Izuku's and Bakugo's name plates by their doors. All of us except Bakugo and Izuku end up going to regular classes.
Izuku is in his room and he mutters while doing weights, "There's hardly any pain or weird sensations."
Izuku remembers when the doctor said, "In other words, if you sustain this type of injury, even just two or three more times, I don't think you're going to be able to move your arms anymore."
Izuku continues muttering, "I was really careful to hold back when I threw a punch against Kacchan yesterday. But when I'm not fully under control of my emotions, I should be extra careful to not use my arms. Instead, I'll concentrate on my Shoot Style."
In the hallway to class, Tenya puts his hands up yelling, "Listen up, everyone. Stay in a line and move promptly into position. I want to see order!"
Sero coming from behind Jiro says, "Uh. You're the only one who's not in line."
Tenya hunches over while shaking and says, "Uh. The dilemma of a class rep!"
I'm the last person in our line so I hear Monoma clearly though my hearing allows me to hear almost everything clearly even things I'm not supposed to. Monoma says by the lockers, "I heard a little rumor about Class 1-A."
Kaminari stops and says, "Uh."
Monoma going all weird says, "Two people! You had two people fail the licensing exam, you losers!"
Sero says, "Monoma from Class B."
Kaminari says, "He's just as unhinged as usual."
Eijiro with his hand on his chin says, "Bet you were the only one in your class to fail. Just like in the final, huh?"
Monoma laughs as I glare at him, Monoma then turns around suddenly.
Eijiro looks shocked and confused saying, "That wasn't an answer!"
Monoma laughs slightly saying, "Ha! Actually..." Monoma turns slightly around posing as most of Class B appears where he was facing before and continues, "Every one of us passed. We've pulled ahead of you big shots."
I jump slightly as Shoto grabs my hand and says, "I'm sorry. It's my fault."
Eijiro pops up and says, "They're the ones who're turning it into a competition. It's no big deal."
A Class B student, Pony Tsunotori, says, "Accordin' ta teacher Vlad, we'll have classes together this semester - doesn't that sound like it'll be fun? I'm lookin' forward to it."
Monoma starts whispering to Pony. Kirishima says, "I can't wait to test out my skills!"
Kaminari says, "Oh hey, isn't she the exchange student?"
Pony all the sudden says, "Touch me and I'll pummel you till yo mama doesn't know ya."
Eijiro and Kaminari go white with shock. Monoma starts laughing with a thumbs up.
Itsuka all the sudden appears behind Monoma ready to knock him unconscious as she says, "Stop filling her mind with crazy!" Itsuka hits Monoma and he goes quiet.
I quietly say, "Thank you, Itsuka." Itsuka just smiles back at me.
I turn hearing footsteps. I see Shinso who nods at me as he says, "Hey. We're tryin' to get through back here."
Momo turns with a "Huh?"
Tenya says acting weird, "Our apologies. Come on, everyone. Save your chit chat for later. We're clogging up the hallways."
Shinso says, "I honestly can't believe how uncool you are."
Tokoyami glancing at Shinso out of the corner of his eye says, "Shinso."
Jiro says, "Oh right, the guy who fought Midoriya at the sports festival."
Sero says, "You sure that's the same guy? Looks like he's bulked up a bit since then."
Shinso says looking at me, "Hey, Cara. I hope you're doing better than when I saw you last."
I nod and say, "Thanks, Shinso. And no really not much has changed." Shinso saw me break down before but doesn't know on my thoughts as I refuse to tell anyone. None of my class knows it but Dad and I have both been training Shinso which is why he's been bulking up.
Shinso nods and continues on to his locker as we leave the lockers to go ahead.
All classes are standing outside in front of many of the teachers. We all are in alphabet order by year and of course which study group we are in so of course all first year hero course students are together while all first year general studies are together and so on though I also see that second and third years are here too. I'm the only one not in alphabet order as I'd normally be in the first raw but I stand with Shoto due to a few factors.
Principal Nezu on a platform that stands on a table, raises his hand and says on a microphone, "Hi there! It's the adorable small mammal you all know and love, the principal." He puts his hand down continuing, "You may notice the fur I'm so proud of has deteriorated in quality. I haven't been taking care of it. This is something that can happen to humans, too. Even if you eat a balanced diet full of vitamins and minerals, you won't have a mane of luscious locks unless you're getting lots of sleep. That's the secret! Disturbances in your normal resting patterns are terrible for your hair. So, if you want to improve your fur's..." Nezu continues but I really stopped paying as much attention.
Ojiro mutters as Kaminari plays with his tail, "Is this really important right now?"
Kaminari mutters, "Please tell me he's almost done."
Nezu continues, "My own sleep cycle has been upset by the incidents that took place over summer vacation, which I'm sure everyone here knows about already." I tense and my right hand shoots to my face as I try to stop a flashback of what Shigaraki did to me from coming up. Shoto responds by grabbing my chin in one hand and forcing both my hands in one of his larger hands and has me look him in the eye which helps and I can relax and focus again as his eyes have a weird calming effect on me. Shoto keeps ahold of my left hand as Nezu continues, "We lost a pillar of hope. The ramifications of which have appeared faster than I could have ever imagined. And there will likely be even more chaos throughout our world in the near future. In particular, this will be most apparent to those of you studying in the hero course. You must approach extracurricular activities, like the hero work studies available to second and third years, with a great sense of caution..."
Nezu continues but my attention goes to some of my classmates. Mina had turned to Tsu saying, "Hero work studies?"
Tsu whispers back, "Maybe they're the next level after the internships we already did?"
Nezu continues, "The air always feels heavy when we talk about gloomy subjects. But, rest assured, your teachers are working hard to remove this weight from your shoulders. I'd like all of you to learn from their diligence, and remember that hard work will help you develop into capable heroes. Whether hero course, support, business, or general studies. I don't want any of you to forget that you're the one's who will inherit our society."
Vlad King says, "Well spoken. Thank you, Principal Nezu."
All Might remembers Nezu saying, "If you're looking for a successor, there's no place overflowing with more raw talent than UA High School. Think about coming to teach for us. Given your current state, I'd recommend cutting back on the heroing, anyway. And trust me, I'm not saying this without a few students in mind. I have no doubt that someone worthy of your power walks the halls of our fine school."
Back to present, Vlad King says, "Now, we'll hear from the extra-curricular guidance teacher. Please give Mr. Hound Dog your attention.
Hound Dog steps up to the microphone and I get ready for my ears to hurt as they always do with him for some reason. Hound Dog says, "Yesterday..." He growls. He then goes off saying, "Two students..." He starts snarling and once he does that for a while he starts howling.
Thankfully he starts away from the microphone and Vlad King goes up saying, "All right. As you just heard, there were students fighting last night. I know you're not used to life in the dorms, but let's all be a little more respectful moving forward."
Kaminari and Eijiro both mutter, "What was Mr. Hound Dog even here for?"
Mineta says, "Does he forget human speech when he gets angry? There's still so much weird stuff at UA I don't know about."
Momo says holding a hand to her head, "Midoriya and Bakugo were doing well, but now they're being treated as problem children."
Vlad King says, "That's it. Back to the classrooms starting with the third years."
We watch as they go. A third year named, Nejire Hado says, "Hey, hey, listen to what I heard! It was a couple of first-years who were fighting. Two boys from Class 1-A. Isn't that a scoop? Hey, do you know them? They must get excited easily."
My head snaps up as I hear Mirio say, "Really?" It had been a while since I'd seen Mirio or the Big Three.
We were finally back in our classroom.
Dad in front of the class says, "Okay. Starting today we'll resume our regular classes and training schedule. I know a lot has happened recently, however, you need to switch gears and focus on your school duties. We're lecturing today, but this semester you'll have even harsher training than before."
Mina whispers behind her to Tsu saying, "He can't mean that, right?"
Dad goes all scary that even I sit back farther in my seat as he asks, "Like to share, Ashido?"
Mina squeals and says, "His icy stare is back!"
Tsu raises her hand saying, "Excuse me, sir. May I ask a question?" Dad surprised goes back to normal as she continues, "What were those things the principal was talking about during the opening ceremonies? I've never heard the term hero work studies before."
Sero says looking at her, "I know right? That had me pretty confused, too."
Tokoyami says, "I also have concerns."
Momo raises her hand slightly saying, "He said they're something the upperclassmen participate in, correct?"
Dad scratches his head, humming slightly, and says, "I was planning to talk more about those at a later date, but I guess telling you now is more logical." Dad brings his hand down continuing, "To put it simply, it's work outside of class. Like the internships you did at pro hero agencies before. Only closer to the real thing. Cara does it every other night with me normally though due to now being in the dorms it won't be as much as we used to."
Ochaco mutters, "Huh. I never heard about these." Ochaco grunts and all the sudden bursts out, "Wait, then why did we work so hard at the sports fest?!"
Tenya says, "She has a point. If we have work studies, those who weren't scouted at the sports festival still have career paths."
Sato says looking at Ochaco, "You gotta calm down. You're acting kinda nutso."
Ochaco says, "This doesn't make sense!"
Dad says, "You'll be using your connections from the festival to secure a work study. It's basic networking. Take Cara for example she has hero work experience so many heroes have seen her in the field and know of her work so she'll have more opportunities for hero work studies than most because she can use those she got in the Sports Festival for internships but also the connections she has outside from her herowork. This isn't part of your normal classwork. It's descretionary for each student. That means those who weren't scouted in the sports festival will have a hard time lining one up I'm afraid. Originally, individual agencies recruited on their own. But there was lots of competition as people tried to recruit UA students. So this is how things ended up."
Ochaco sighs.
Dad asks, "Good enough, Ochaco?"
She bows her head and says, "I'm sorry I jumped to conclusions, sir." She sits back down.
Dad continues, "Now that you have your provisional licenses, you can assist in real ways, for longer periods of time. Until now, there haven't been many first years who've received their licenses. With the increased activity of villains, we're currently exploring the idea that you can participate in work studies as well. We'll explain more about the work study positions and what that program entails at a later date, but for now...We've got other things to worry about. That's all. Sorry to keep you waiting, Mic."
The door opens showing my Uncle Hizashi or who I sometimes call Uncle Mic. Dad leaves as Present Mic comes in.
Present Mic says, "First period is English! In other words, it's jam time! Been an age since I stood on this stage. Ya miss me? We've got a lot to cover today! Let's get rollin' with it. Ya dig?"
At the Height Alliance 1-A building, once we were all done with classes and we all see Bakugo and Izuku cleaning. I easily climb up to the roof and sit but instead of going through the roof access door I go to my balcony and climb up that way. Surprisingly, Shoto didn't bug me though I've had a hard time paying attention all day today as flashbacks keep trying to come up.
Down on the main floor, Mineta and Sero tease Bakugo by finding some dust and Mineta says, "Excuse me, but what is with this dust, Bakugo?"
Bakugo says, "Deku was s'pposed to do that! Shut up!"
Sero and Mineta laugh at his response.
Bakugo yells at Izuku, "Hey, can't you even clean something right, you idiot?"
Izuku says, "Right! Sorry!"
Sato says with a hand on his neck, "Man. I'm so beat."
Izuku says, "Hey, guys. If you put your trash in the halls, I'll take everything down in a second."
Sato says leaning on the couch, "So. Present Mic's class today."
Eijiro asks, "You as lost as I was?"
Sato says, "Were we supposed to know all the grammar he was going over?"
Mina says, "Oh, yeah, that! Right? I was, like, is this even English?"
Eijiro says, "I think I studied the wrong chapters!"
Sato says, "I got stuck at the beginning and then I couldn't figure out anything after that."
Jiro says in a group with Ojiro and Hagakure, "About those work studies. I wasn't scouted, so I wonder if I'll get to participate in one."
Hagakure says, "Maybe we can go to the places we did our internships. I'd be totally down with doing that."
Ojiro says, "I hope I get to do one."
Tenya high-pitched says, "In just one day, I've been completely left behind! That's what you're thinking, right, House Arrest?"
Izuku says, "Hey, don't call me that, it's mean!" Izuku points at Iida and says, "Um, Iida. What's a work study?"
Tenya says kinda too enthusiastic, "Something I can't tell you about. The teachers have forbidden us from giving you any details about our classes." Tenya stands up straight and says more calmly, "Sorry, but you'll just have to experience the same shock and surprise we went through." Iida turns towards Bakugo saying louder, "Did you catch that? Bakugo?"
Bakugo angry says loudly, "Shut your mouth! I heard you, four eyes."
I look down from the roof seeing Izuku as he mutters, "Aw, man. What is a work study? I'm clearly being left behind. I know it's just the start of the semester, but these three days of house arrest are gonna hit me really hard. There's hero basic training tomorrow! Everyone's gonna be learning new stuff while I'm stuck hanging out in my room. I hate this. I'm falling behind. I can't slow down now."
Izuku stops all the sudden seeing Mirio's face in the wall. Izuku looks over slowly and Mirio says, "Ha! Trash, amiright?"
Izuku yelps.
Mirio points the way towards the trash and says, "What are you doing? You know you can just throw away the food trays with the burnables, don't you?"
Izuku turns to him slowly and says, "Uh. Yeah."
Mirio nods at him and goes back in the wall.
Izuku mutters, "Am I going insane? What was that?"
Mirio appears in the ground under Izuku causing Izuku to scream. Mirio says, "So, you must be that excitable first-year aren't you?" Izuku starts backing up. Mirio continues, "Ha, ha! I bet that was a freaky surprise for ya. Kinda sorry about that! Gotta admit, I did pop up here 'cause I thought you'd be shocked, though."
Izuku steps forward leaning to see Mirio's face and says, "What in the world are you?"
Mirio laughs and says, "Not a bad question there, my friend! I admit, sometimes I even weird myself out! You know, once in a blue moon. I guess Young Cara Aizawa hasn't mentioned me at all though not surprising considering she doesn't talk as much as she did when I met her." Izuku groans. Mirio continues, "But don't worry, you're gonna find out who I am soon enough. I'm just glad it looks like you've got a fighting spirit. You see, the truth is that people are talking about you, so I came to see what the fuss was about." Mirio disappears again.
Izuku gasps looking around and says, "Okay. What just happened? I feel like I've seen him somewhere before."
It's now night and surprisingly no one had noticed me being gone even from dinner. It was becoming aroutine all throughout Izuku and Bakugo's house arrest for me to spend all day up there after school and only eating lunch while in school. Surprisingly, neither Dad nor Shoto checked on me though I would tell both I was studying even though I wasn't as I didn't need to as I knew all the material up to and through third year. Each time I was on the roof I weighed jumping and ending my life or not jumping and continuing my life.
Despite it seeming like time was crawling by, three days eventually passed, and Izuku turned in his written apology to Dad. Izuku's house arrest ended the day before Bakugo's. Izuku was back!
Once Izuku was back he bowed and screams, "Guys! I'm sorry for all the trouble I caused!"
Ochaco had said, "No sweat, Deku. Thanks for your hard work."
Jiro says, "All he did was vacuum. And what's with those steam nostrils?"
Izuku had gone to Tenya saying, "Class Rep! Iida! I'm sorry I disappointed you!"
Tenya surprised at first said, "Uh..." Then understanding he said, "Right. Well, I'm glad you learned from your mistakes. Follow the rules from now on."
Izuku waving a fist says, "I'll catch up with everything I fell behind on these past three days!"
Eijiro says, "That's the fightin' spirit! Do it, man!"
Dad had looked creepy and said, "Time to take your seats, everyone."
Izuku yelps.
Chairs scrape as everyone that was up gets in their seats.
Dad says, "Morning. Now that Midoriya is back, we'll go into more detail about what the work studies entail." Dad turned to the door slightly and says, "Go ahead and come in."
We all turn to the door as it starts to open.
Dad says, "I'll have people who've experienced them firsthand explain."
Izuku gasps seeing the three students walk in.
Dad continues, "I suggest you listen carefully as they point out how work studies differ from internships."
Izuku gasps more.
Dad says, "These three are third years at UA. They rank at the very top of our student body. Cara right up there with them. You may know them as the Big Three."
Izuku says, "The Big Three. And it's him."
Mirio smiles wide and I say loudly, "Long time no see, Mirio."
