Chapter 3
Magical Moment
— — — — —
A year!
I'm officially a year old. At least in this new body of mine. Another perk of being a baby– people don't sing happy birthday! Or at least not in this world. Didn't like the song. Too long and too awkward. There's also a form of christmas, though it's not nearly as celebrated here. Maybe it's just in this part of the world? If I remember correctly from the show there's four– no, five continents. I'll have to explore around.
One thing I did notice was my emotions. I felt so loose, and volatile. I got happy fast, and I got rather upset fast. I can control my feelings of course. I just get sad faster than I normally would. Though being happy feels nicer. It feels like real joy.
Many observations over the months not only got the skill to level thirteen, but that I'm in the past. Before the show starts. Like way before. There aren't even cars! Or hovercraft— or whatever they had in the show. Horses everywhere. Horse dung, too, but I've seen people –probably hired– picking it up in large black bags.
Anyhow, I grinded the hell out of my stats. With nothing else to do, it was both satisfying and convenient. Observe, listening, talking, as well as liver and stomach capacity were all level ten now. If i count correctly, that's then skills, and half of 'em are above level ten.
Quest 'life skills' has been started!
Quest 'life skills' has been completed!
Part 2 of 'life skills will be accessible upon reaching age 5
You have levelled up!
You have levelled up!
Hoho! Now with all ten skill points earned… What should I put them into? Maybe strength,,, While I'd like to put it into strength, I feel like luck would be the best choice early on. Actually, what does it even do? I never read through them…
I open up the stat menu, focusing on Luck, I use my observe skill.
Luck
Boosts chance of XP orb and Golden XP orb by 0.05% every upgrade. It cannot go past 10%. Also boosts the chance of luck related events such as lottery, casino games, critical hits, item drops, and plot related events.
This... This seems useful. Dumping all ten skill points into luck, leaving it at thirty. This means there should be.. .A one percent chance and so? Wait— shit, how do I even get XP orbs? I just assumed it was by killing grimm and such but if it's not?
I used observe on the XP orb, there was an image. A bright and glowing translucent white orb that glistened like a gif on the two dimensional screen.
XP Orb
Takes up 1 inventory slot.
Grants 1000 XP points upon use.
Can be used on people or pets
Combining 5 creates 'Gigantic XP Orb'
I used observe again, curious to see what that was. I hope I don't go down a huge rabbit hole of crafting recipes, if they even exist.
Gigantic XP Orb
Only obtainable by combining 5 XP Orbs
Takes up 4 inventory slots
Grants 7500 XP points upon use
Can be used on people or pets
Combining 5 creates 'Golden XP Orb'
Golden XP orb
Takes up 1 inventory slot
Grants 3 levels
Cannot be used on people or pets
Combining creates 'Gigantic Golden XP Orb'
Gigantic Golden XP Orb
Only Obtainable by combining 5 XP orbs
Takes up 4 inventory slots
Grants 25 levels upon use
Can only be used on people or pets once per person or pet
Combining with ?, 25 ?, ?, and ? creates Golden Gun
Unfortunately it didn't give me any more info. What's this golden gun, then? Like the one from that James Bond movie? Only ever saw that in a grocery store. Ha— it's all coming back to me, I was looking for my mother's birthday gift with my father that day.
I wonder how they're doing.
I haven't been adopted yet, nobody close to me has, not yet anyways. A few people have come and gone, Millie's best friend Soliel, the blonde one, was almost adopted until the parents found out she was faunus. Apparently it was left over resentment from a war forty or so years back. She was as heart broken as she was happy, and frankly it was the first time I had actually seen her sad, and ever since we— well, everybody else helped throw her a party, she hasn't been nearly as sad since. Raised her friendship to a hundred too.
There's Cherven, who's strength stat I still can't see, meaning it's over at least a thousand three hundred. God damn, how the hell is he that strong?! What kind of juice did he drink?! Atleast Kon having over thirteen-hundred agility makes sense given his background as one of the first batch of huntsmen.
Though I… I've definitely been growing faster than the average baby. Or am I? I never had a younger sibling, only a cousin who's parents I fell out of touch with when I moved to the city.
Dah— that was before. Before all this. It's still hard to get my mind around. I wonder what the rehabilitation God said the ah, worse than average people were going through.
I might end up there myself. The thought sent shivers through me.
Enough side tracking. I actually got a birthday gift! Sure, it was a book meant for babies which, well, I couldn't exactly complain about –especially since it made a new skill; being Visual Comprehension, being able to see and understand words. It's pretty rough right now, much like an off branch of observe. I can imagine this being useful in the case of talking to somebody who speaks sign language, who I will most likely run into if I try to do something important.
Right now I'm pulling chairs across the wool floor. Definitely heavier and harder than before. Of course since the orphanage was run on God knows what, the chairs are light and easy to lift. To an adult. They're working pretty well as weights, raising my strength a full— uhm. Well it's at five, technically five and a half because of the muscle passive. I can also keep going for a while because my body doesn't weigh much, and it's basically just the chair I'm moving.
If the clocks are the same, it's about two in the afternoon. Maybe I should take a break? My stamina, or rather my SP dwindled down to three an hour ago. Well, at least babies don't smell bad.
I propped the chairs back up after a few minutes of trying. Cherven barged in the door. "He's just walkin' around." He half-shouted back. His hazel eyes turned to the chairs. "Oh who the hell— whatever, it's not my problem." His gaze turned to me, and he crouched in front of me to almost meet me at eye level. He had me by the hand, guiding me to the more open room containing the television, or as this world would call it, 'CCTE', for Cross continental transmission entertainment. Nobody actually calls it that though.
I activated the Parajena quest. I checked the manual, and while hard to read through, the last episode — rather the hour long series finale - would air in a few minutes.
— — — — —
Wow.
That ending has me in tears. It's… unexpectedly heart wrenching. In the end, it turns out that an immortal man, the teacher and mentor of the group, was actually unknowingly the cause, and sacrificing himself before the evil gigantic grimm spider could be set loose. It was admittedly pretty cheesy, and I'm guessing the only reason I'm crying is because…
I sniffled. Why did he die? Dammit.
Well Cherven had dozed off, even sleeping through the dumbbell bouncing off the floor inches away from his foot when he did. Millie was, too, in tears.
Quest 'Go! Go! Parajena!' has been 100% completed!
You have levelled up!
Para-sword put into inventory slot 1
Para-Punch trainer stored until extra storage is available
Sundown orphanage friendship increased by 10
Millie saw that she wasn't alone in her grievance of the movie, and stopped her crying. Well, not completely, but enough. She toughened up? I guess that's a close enough phrase. She's still clearly sad but crying at the same stuff a baby does might have its own embarrassment.
Honestly The movie felt ahead of its time. The cgi and effects were abhorrent my my 2027 standards, sure, but it was far better than the other episodes. Maybe they got a different writer in?
Now that that's over with, what should I do today? Maybe I could… Hmm. I'm not really sure? Wait! Magic! I haven't used it even a tad bit yet— other than that one time, but er, other than that I haven't used it. .
My eyes closed in concentration. What will it be like?
Now that I think of the magic, I can feel it, indescribable as expected. It's a pleasant feeling of security, though how does it work I wonder?
I hopped off of the cotton sofa, falling the good almost full length of my body onto the floor.
Through a unique action, a skill has been obtained!
I used observe on this 'new skill' whilst walking to a room with a more appropriate size– and tissues for my eyes.
Fall resistance (Passive) - Level 0
Damage that would incur from falling a distance is instead inflicted on SP. As long as SP is used instead of HP, additional weights won't be damaged or added to total fall damage.
How useful! I dismissed the neon blue window with a half sarcastic roll of the eyes. It's time to train my magic. Try to raise my MP a little. Maybe try to become stupid strong with it too?
Though with a 1-100 conversion rate of my intelligence, I can't imagine that happening any time soon.
After all, I need more magic– I don't want a repeat of those spider thugs. I never want to use that ability again. It felt awful for weeks.
Making extra sure I closed the door behind me, I focused my mind on a nearby object. My building blocks! Hardly use them of course, it's one of the few baby toys Jade had gotten for me yesterday. There were two others, being a teddy I had yet to name –and probably never will– sitting in the corner. It's blue and bear-like, and the soft fur had come together in clunks. Lastly was my wooden horse, something I have yet to use, but I assume could give me a skill or two if my idea works out.
Alright, now it's time!
I face the building blocks, specifically the one branded S on all sides, renewed determination I hadn't felt in so long; the youth and vigour along with this brain naturally being naive and ready to learn. I looked down upon the six sided cube, and held a hand out.
. . .
. . .
. . .
Where's this system when you need it?
I focused in again, this time I focus on the glowing inside me rather than the movement of the cube.I can feel it better with my eyes closed; the light— fire inside me, all twenty one points of it, I could feel it. I could push it, meld it to my whims. I pushed what I could to the forefront of my body, my fingers, I think are outstretched statically to the cube.
Then I felt it, the release, opposite to using that skill, I feel incredible!
Invincibile!
The cube at this point was at the other side of the room.
Through a magical action, a spell has been obtained!
Through a magical action, a spell has been obtained!
Damn, that… felt amazing. Only downside, my mp was now at 1.5 of 21.5— wait, it's 25 now. Oh! One of the new skills must have increased my intelligence.
Magic push- level 0
With pure brute force of your magic, in a barbaric push of magic directly from one's reserves to induce force onto an object or person. Able to move up to 1 kg of weight effectively.
Costs 20 MP per push
Magically gifted (Passive)- level 0
Tap into your inner magic to extend and mould it into something efficient, much like the entrepreneurs of magic you may think of.
+50 max MP
+5 max MP per level
+3.5 INT per level
+5 MP regen per hour
Oh my how interesting!
I'd try again, but… using observe shows it's stuck at +5 an hour. Shit. Next blast is four hours.
So that's what magic is in this world then? A last resort for a dire situation. I can see why considering it's, well, bonafide magic.
Well, time to get onto the next 'exercise' I have planned.
Meditation.
