RIP wings of fire netflix series. Am I late to the party? Yes. Do I care that much? Eh, I thought it was going to be ended before it began anyway :P (This is chapter 2...I think I got it working now)
The storm wouldn't die down for another few hours after Glory woke up. The thunder had finished striking the ground but the water never stopped pouring. The Rainwing slowly sat up so as to not wake up the other two and approached the edge of the cave, seeing the sunlight hit the ground was still a wondrous sight. For years she could only stare though the sky hole and hope the giant orb in the sky would rise just in view. It was rare, but when it did she felt like sleeping for some reason.
The water. It was something Glory hated for so long and what started a lot of arguments with Tsunami. 'Water makes you feel good' 'Water helps when you're hurt' bleh. All of it was Lizard dung. If water wasn't necessary for survival, Glory would avoid the stuff at all cost. "But why do I hate it so much?" She figured it was a Rainwing trait. One that stemmed biologically. Maybe water messed with her venoms? Maybe it messed with her scales? Any reason that allowed her to ignore Tsunami's tangents was a plus in her scroll.
"Still going?" Starflight asked, startling his friend as she did not expect the Nightwing to creep up behind her. "I figured it would have stopped by now. Storms don't usually last this long out here."
"Yeah? Well would Burn leave in the rain?" She didn't mean to sound snarky but sometimes it was just automatic. She genuinely wanted to know and luckily Starflight seemed interested in speaking anyway.
"She wouldn't. She is known for hating the rain more than either of her sisters combined. It's not known why, but even Blaze is willing to go out in it as long as she doesn't get dirty. Burn on the other hand would rather wait until it is over, even if she is late. Not that anyone would be willing to make fun of her for it to her face…at least that's what the scrolls said."
"Did I mention how useful having a living library is?" Glory joked, poking his wing with her tail before looking back out. "We need to reach Sunny before they reach the desert. Even with Peril, I don't think we can take them when they have the area advantage." Truthfully, she just didn't want to be stuck in the heat for too long. She liked the sun, but not enough to fight in it where its heat was the strongest.
Starflight seemed to agree and part of the Rainwing enjoyed watching his face change as his mind worked faster than any scholar in the world. It was like watching a hundred different facial expressions switch between each other. "Yeah…I know we planned it out yesterday but I don't think that will work. Burn is way too battle hungry to not just attack Peril and myself. I think a better idea is Peril pretending she wants to join Burn and I tell her that the Nightwings want to help her? That may be better than threatening her."
Glory considered this. Either way she would be freeing Sunny in secret. "Won't Sunny hate you for siding with Burn?"
Starflight shook his head. "She's smarter than that! She'll know I'm only doing it to try and save her." He started off confident but his answer fell to nervousness. Of course he would start doubting himself when it came to Sunny.
"I'm sure she'll know." Whether the Rainwing believed that was another story entirely. "I'm still not sure. What if Burn doesn't want your help?"
Starflight turned to the still sleeping Skywing. "She'll want Peril at least. An unstoppable dragon who can burn anyone just by t-"
She was back in the tree. Her body buckled as Peril yelped. The spear of the guards had struck forward, forcing her to move her be skewered. She didn't realize where she was going and when she did, it was too late…
"Glory!" Starflight had been shaking her awake. How did she end up on the ground? She hissed a little which made Starflight back off and she rose herself back up, shaking her head. Peril was up it seemed and the rain had stopped. "S-sorry-" He muttered as he backed away. "Y-you just collapsed and I got worrie-"
"Yes, I get it! Come on, Burn must have left already!" She stamped her tail before taking off, not looking back to make sure the others were following her. She felt her wings brush against the wind, almost forgetting how much she loved flying. The cave they hid in was so small compared to the vast expanse of land that was in front of them and looking further, she saw what looked like a campsite? Why? They weren't scavengers, were they?
"GLORY!" Starflight hissed behind her. "Stop! They wouldn't have left!" That got her attention. When she slowed down, Glory turned to face them. She saw Starflight following behind Peril while out of breath. "Burn won't leave until the sun is in the sky. She doesn't trust that it won't rain again."
That made no sense at all. It did help at least, but still why would she do that? What if she got ambushed? "She trusts in her own strength." Glory thought to herself. "Wait wait wait, so she isn't leaving yet?"
Starflight shook his head while Peril flapped her large wings next to them. Glory found it a bit distracting. She signaled to land and the two agreed, following her down to hide in some trees.
Glory filled Peril in on the new plan but made sure to remind her about the 'no hurting dragons' rule. "The last thing we need is an angry Burn and a frightened Sunny."
"A boring plan." She bristled. "I'd rather just burn all of them and free Sunny that way." Starflight gave Glory another worried look, hoping she would diffuse the ticking time bomb.
"Yes, but it's safer and that's what matters right now. Besides, Clay wouldn't want those dragons hurt if we could avoid it." How much did she hate not being able to hurt dragons that helped cause the dragonets so much pain? More than she was willing to admit. Nevertheless, Peril seemed content, if not a little annoyed.
"Alright. Peril, come with me. They'll be up by now and we can talk to them. Glory, I know you can do it." He looked at her with a warm smile before taking off. Peril reluctantly followed him and agreed to not speaking unless necessary.
And now Glory was alone once again. She waited for a minute, giving the two time before she left herself. She tried to match the grass and trees below her as she flew around in a path that would take much longer than if she followed Starflight and Peril. She was a fast flier if she did say so herself. The wind brushed against her scales, hitting her ears and legs before she landed near some trees. She then marched forward and felt the rocks and dirt beneath her. she reached the camp not long after she assumed the other two would have.
Burn's camp wasn't large. Maybe six dragons aside from herself were perched around the valley. There was a large tent structure with torches lit nearby and the cloth used was a sandy yellow which Glory assumed meant it was Burn's. A loud roar came from the inside of the tent and the guards leaped into action. They swooped down to the tent and Glory got to see the strongest of the Sandwing princesses once more. Even at a distance, the ferocious dragon still intimidated her. She wished it was Burn that she hit with her venom. She was even taller than her guards which made it seem like no dragon could take her themselves.
Starflight and Peril came into view and Glory camouflaged herself to the rock behind her. The Nightwing did his best to sound stoic but he was really bad at it. "Hello! I am a Nightwing from the…from our kingdom hidden de..deep in…" Good grief Starflight, not now! "WewanttohelptherightfulQueenBurn!" He skimpered, shivering in freight.
Peril looked very uncomfortable but she didn't say anything, just lashing her tail. Burn stepped forward and Starflight flinched back. "And why would I accept help from snakes like you?"
Glory made her way towards the tent, turning green to match the grass and so far, not being spotted. She felt the mud between her claws and grimaced at how annoying this would be to clean off later. "Because we are the…all powerful Nightwings?" He didn't sound like a scary Nightwing at all. "You know…we could help? Like, read your foes minds?"
"And why, pretell, would they send a small little speck like you? If this is who represents them, then my dislike of your kind has been well thought out." She growled and Glory stopped, worrying for Starflight. "Don't mess this up, don't mess this up, don't mess this up…" She thought worriedly.
Peril seemed to catch on and stood by Starflight who bristled at the heat that she was emitting. The Skywing was much more confident then Starflight and it seemed like she wasn't afraid of Burn. "Because the others are busy! It's like a training ritual." Not believable in the slightest but Burn might be dense enough to buy it.
Burn's interest turned from Starflight to Peril and she raised a claw, moving the guards and they lowered their tails. "You. What did Scarlet call you again?" She sounded…not rude? It wasn't a nice phrasing but she didn't sound full of fire and hatred when addressing the flamescales.
"Peril. My name is Peril." She growled. Glory took her chance and darted into the tent, keeping herself camouflaged.
It was a large room with a single dug out bed that Burn probably slept in. A table in the corner held food and a map that had a line from the stronghold to Scarlets castle and a single crate that looked to be worn out and barely full. And finally, in the center of the room was a large, red dragon. Muzzled and chained to a large stake sat a dragon with what looked like melted metal stuck in her eye, turning what would have been a semi pretty face into a monstrous creature. Her eyes burned with emotion and her limbs looked ready to kill the first thing they could reach.
The dragon she saw wasn't the cute, adorable Sunny that Glory was risking Starflight and Peril's lives to save. It was the Queen who had captured and killed her friends. She was face to face with Queen Scarlet.
