"So you really knew Daruk?" Yunobo asked.

"I did," Link confirmed. "From what I can remember, he was a good friend."

Yunobo remained silent for a while. Eventually he spoke once more. "What was he like?"

"Well, I don't… really have a lot of memories of him," Link confessed. Yet he thought he knew exactly what Daruk was like. "But he was strong. And kind."

"That's what everyone always says about him. Boss is always telling me that I need to try to be more like him, but when I ask what he was like, he tells me that he was strong and kind." Yunobo looked up, meeting his eyes. "But no one knows what he was really like."

Oh.

Link immediate shame for his thoughts regarding the Goron. He was certainly different than Daruk, but Link knew something of trying to live up to an impossible expectation.

"Well… I think he is probably the friendliest person that I remember. And he wasn't just nice to people—he wanted to help them too. He always wanted to find a way to fix things." As Link spoke, he found that the words started to come easier. Details that he hadn't known a few minutes ago suddenly grew clear. "He protected people. If he ever saw anyone in need, he would rush to their aid. I think...I'm pretty sure we met after he rushed to my aid when I was fighting monsters. But it's not completely clear."

"Wow… I wish I was that brave." Yunobo looked up towards Death Mountain. "Anytime I see a monster, I just…freeze up."

That caught Bernadetta's attention. "I get that. I was the same way, at first. It wasn't just monsters, either. I would freeze up when confronted by people, too."

"Really? But...you came here, to try to stop the monster in Vah Rudania," Yunobo protested.

"And I'm scared out of my wits," Bernadetta admitted. "Helping save Hyrule has been terrifying. But I just have to do it."

Yunobo looked at her. "You're very brave."

"You think I'm...brave?" Bernadetta asked.

"Sure!" Yunobo said. "You're scared out of your mind, but you decided to step up anyway."

"I did, didn't I?" Bernadetta asked. "Yeah! From now on, you can call me Bernie, the Brave and the Bold! I won't run away from anything ever again!"

Suddenly, a Fire Lizalfos jumped at them from behind a rock. Bernie the Brave and the Bold screamed and fired her Ancient Bowcaster at it, blowing it to bits.

After a moment of hesitation, she said, "I didn't run away!"

Caspar chuckled at that, followed by Raphael, and soon, everyone was laughing, including Bernie.

Yunobo found a pickaxe and hefted it. "You know what, Bernie the Brave and the Bold? If you won't run away, then I won't either!"

"You can just call me Bernie," Bernie said. "We'll be brave together. All of us!"

As if she had jinxed them, a massive lizard, much like the Dodongo that had carried their water but much bigger, decided to show up at that very moment. Bernie and Yunobo both screamed.

The lizard let out a massive roar, and spat a fireball at Caspar, who just managed to dodge. It spat another at Bernie, but Yunobo stood in front of her and shielded himself with Daruk's orange fractals.

That was interesting. Yunobo had Daruk's power?

Not giving up, the beast slashed at Edelgard with its claws, catching her and tearing her flesh.

"Mipha's Grace!" Marianne called, casting a spell. Edelgard's wounds, which would have doubtless been fatal, healed as if they hadn't even been there.

Unfortunately, the beast saw Marianne and decided to kill her first. Bernie tried to pepper it with Bowcaster blasts, but it ignored them and began inhaling.

Link tossed a Remote Bomb into its mouth, and once it had inhaled the bomb, he set it off. The beast fell on its side, exposing its belly. Edelgard, Raphael, and Caspar began striking the exposed abdomen with their weapons, but they weren't doing enough damage.

Yunobo looked at his pickaxe, and ran to join them. He plunged his pickaxe into the beast's chest, tearing its heart apart. The beast stopped struggling and died.

"We killed a King Dodongo," Yunobo realized.

Just up ahead, Link spotted a Shrine. He called Annette.

On the other end, however, he heard the sounds of battle. "I can't talk now! We're under attack!" Annette shouted, before the call ended.

"They're in trouble!" Caspar shouted. "We have to help them!"

However, Death Mountain chose that moment to begin rumbling. "I don't think we have time," Link said.

"We have to stop Rudania now, or it will set off the volcano," Yunobo said.

"Astor," Edelgard spat. "He timed that attack to cut off our reinforcements."

"Goddess, protect our friends," Marianne prayed. "And protect us."
