In this chapter, Zoey will encounter a big Heartless. You can probably guess who he used to be.
Let's hope she can turn him back to normal. Even if his cooking is lousy.
No point in allowing anyone else to get hurt.
Though even if Zoey manages to save Chef there are other people at risk...
I'd hate it if something were to happen to Brick.
Chapter 2: Appetite for Destruction
After they arose from their beds, the campers went to the mess hall to get a bite to eat.
However, they all noticed that someone was missing.
"Why do I get the feeling that someone is missing?" questioned Lindsay.
Dakota shrugged.
Was it her boyfriend Tyler?
Oh wait, he wasn't competing this season.
Though she would like it if he was.
He hadn't been in Total Drama Action.
Chef had mysteriously vanished.
The campers were very surprised at the occurrence.
He had been on the show since day one.
And yet, he had vanished without a trace.
Had Fang the Shark eaten him? Scott still had nightmares about that fish, who had sent him straight to the Trauma Chair. Though if Chef tasted as bad as his cooking, maybe that wasn't what had happened to him.
The show wasn't the same without the cook, that was for sure.
"I don't get it...why isn't Chef serving us food?" asked Cameron.
"Lightning can't compete in challenges without his lunch!" exclaimed Lightning.
"I remember the time that he decided to pretend to be a serial killer." remarked Izzy. That had certainly been one scary episode. DJ was kind of relieved to be eliminated after that.
"Your guess is as good as mine." answered Mike.
Admittedly, neither of them had to worry about him giving them toxic marshmallows and by extension becoming mutants, just as Dakota had. But they were still curious.
Owen's stomach grumbled.
"Oh man, I'm not sure what I'm going to do without him." worried the blonde.
It was going to be hard for the contestants to compete on this show on an empty stomach, that was for sure.
Though they did admit that Chef's food made them feel sick to their stomachs at times, other than Brick and Owen.
"If Chef decided to waltz out on us, I'm going to be so mad!" exclaimed Jo.
Even if she didn't like his cooking.
Chris realized that Chef was missing as well.
"Where is Chef? The show just isn't the same without him.' noted the host.
He enjoyed having a sidekick.
He didn't think he would leave without telling him.
What was going on?
He sure hoped that he didn't have to hire a replacement. Chances are they wouldn't put up with his sadism. And he didn't want to get arrested again, that was for sure.
Since there didn't appear to be any challenges at the moment, Zoey decided to explore the island.
She wanted to see if she could find more Heartless. Something told her that they had something to do with Chef's disappearance. So if she found the Heartless, maybe she would find Chef.
Sure enough, some new Heartless appeared.
These ones resembled knights, though they did not have swords. Instead, they attacked by kicking her.
They were stronger than the Shadows...but not by much.
Also, unlike the Shadows, they had an emblem on their bodies.
Did that represent something?
Fortunately, none of the campers had encountered the Heartless yet.
Zoey took down the Soldier Heartless, but there was still no sign of Chef.
Where was he?
Perhaps she could ask her fellow campers if they had seen anything.
That seemed like a good idea.
She could ask Dawn, but she was busy meditating at the moment.
Oddly enough, Chris had not yet come up with another challenge for them.
It seemed he was too worried about Chef for that.
Or maybe he had been hoping Chef would help him with today's challenge.
Suddenly, they heard a scream.
It was from Owen.
"There's a monster in the kitchen!" exclaimed the blonde in horror, his hands pressed against the side of his head.
He decided to check the refrigerator to see if there was anything for him to eat.
But instead, it seemed that there was a monster waiting there to eat him.
"I think I had best investigate." thought Zoey.
She was most suited for this task. After all, did she not have a weapon she could call upon at any time?
Well, she was still getting used to it. It took time to become a keyblade master, as Ventus, Terra, and Aqua could attest to. But she knew now how to summon it, at least.
The indie chick went inside the kitchen to check what Owen had found. It could simply be a spider...but it could be another Heartless as well.
As it turned out, a big Heartless stood before her.
This was definitely stronger than the last ones that she had faced.
It was wearing a chef's hat.
And it was also wearing a green apron as well.
It was also wearing oven mitts.
The Heartless additionally had big muscles. It bore some resemblance to a Large Body...though Zoey hadn't encountered that type of Heartless yet.
Perhaps she should call this Heartless the Crazed Cook.
Wait...this Heartless somehow seemed familiar.
"Chef? Is that you?" asked Zoey.
The Heartless pulled out a meat cleaver.
"Maybe I need to whack him with my keyblade to bring him back to my senses..." noted Zoey.
Zoey attacked the Crazed Cook, but he blocked it with a frying pan.
It seemed this Heartless knew a thing or two about defense...as opposed to the Heartless she had faced earlier. They had a reckless fighting style.
The Crazed Cook swung the frying pan at Zoey, but she ducked and hit him in the arm.
In retaliation, he swung his meat cleaver at her.
"Ouch!" exclaimed the redhead.
Luckily, she had been more resilient ever since she acquired the Keyblade. It seemed it was good for more than just offense.
No doubt this would come in handy for competing in dangerous challenges.
But it would be best if she avoided that meat cleaver, just to be on the safe side.
Zoey hit the cook again with her keyblade.
He proceeded to swing his frying pan at her head.
However, she knocked the pan out of his hand.
"Now I won't need Advil." remarked Zoey.
The Crazed Cook spat out a fireball in retaliation. It seemed that this Heartless liked to play with fire.
"Ouch!" exclaimed Zoey.
If she couldn't take the heat, maybe she should stay out of Chef's kitchen.
But as it was, she was determined to bring Chef back to his senses.
Owen would be very happy if he was serving the chubby teen meals once again.
Zoey swung her keyblade at the cook once again.
He spat out another fireball, but Zoey ducked once more.
"I might want to get a fire extinguisher." noted the indie chick.
Zoey swung the keyblade at the Heartless chef's head.
The Crazed Cook fell to the ground and released its heart.
Afterwards, it was surrounded by a cloud of darkness...and then Chef reappeared.
"What happened?" asked the man.
For some strange reason, Chef had fantasized about cooking the campers for lunch.
But why would he do that? To his knowledge, he was not a cannibal.
He wasn't the nicest man in the world, to be sure, but he wouldn't go that far.
Zoey sighed in relief. Chef was restored to normal. Though his cooking wasn't exactly something that she was looking forward to.
Now that she thought of it, maybe that was why the Heartless were attacking her.
They were trying to turn her into one of them. It was anyone's guess as to what she would look like as a Heartless. Though it would most likely incorporate aspects of her personality given what happened to Chef.
Wait...didn't that mean that the Heartless could turn her friends into more of them as well?
If that was the case, that made them all the more dangerous, even if she could reverse the transformation.
It would be best if she stopped the Heartless from spreading.
They could multiply very quickly, it seemed. Though it appeared that the darkness in someone's heart would determine the Heartless that was created.
Luckily, she had the means to defend herself.
But could she stop the Heartless alone?
It would be nice if she had some help.
That way she wouldn't feel like she was outnumbered.
On the way out, she began to feel rather...hot.
Her keyblade began to glow orange.
She wondered if something had changed.
Another Shadow showed up...but the keyblade launched a fireball at it.
The Shadow burst into darkness and released its heart.
It seemed she could manipulate fire now.
Perhaps defeating Heartless could reward you with gifts. Like magic, for instance.
All the more reason to fight them, she supposed. Though if she won the season, she would be able to purchase a lot of gifts.
She decided to talk to Dawn again.
"Chef got turned into a Heartless...but I turned him back to normal." spoke Zoey.
"That's good...I suspect that the Heartless were drawn towards the darkness in his heart." noted Dawn.
They likely wouldn't have swarmed him otherwise.
"They were?" asked the redhead.
The blonde nodded.
The Heartless were attracted to darkness. It was part of the reason why you could encounter them in Halloweentown. Jack did not realize the threat that they had posed at first.
To be fair, Quasimodo hadn't immediately realized the threat that Dream Eaters posed either...if they were Nightmares.
"Wait a minute...does that mean they'll target Chris next?" asked Zoey.
She was pretty sure that he had a lot of darkness in his heart. So it seemed like he would be the most likely target.
The redhead couldn't think of another reason as to why he would come up with so many nasty challenges. And why he would want to mutate the animals on the island.
Suddenly, they heard a scream.
As it turned out, Chris had been attacked by the Heartless...and become a Darkside.
This Heartless was even bigger than the Crazed Cook. It had a hole in its stomach that resembled a heart.
As he marched, Shadows began to follow him.
"Here we go again..." spoke Zoey. Just as she had defeated one large Heartless, so too did she encounter another.
It appeared that the more darkness that the person had in their heart, the stronger the Heartless that was produced as a result. That was most likely why Chris had become such a large Heartless.
She noted that the Darkside Heartless resembled the Shadow Heartless.
Perhaps they were related somehow?
Well, she could ponder that later.
For now, she needed to do something about the giant Heartless.
It was to keep her friends safe, after all.
Meanwhile, at Disney Castle...
An alarm suddenly went off at Disney Castle.
"What's the emergency?" asked Donald.
Was it Baby Shelby? That turtle was evil. He was sure of it.
"Another person has been chosen by the keyblade!" exclaimed Queen Minnie.
They figured it would be important to keep track of that.
It had been a joyous occasion when King Mickey was chosen, after all.
"Gawrsh! Really?" questioned Goofy.
Minnie nodded.
No doubt this would come in handy to fighting off waves of Heartless.
Perhaps this Keyblade bearer would save the worlds, like Sora before them.
On the other hand, they could only hope that this keyblade bearer wouldn't fall into darkness. Master Xehanort had done that.
Of course, in order to go to other worlds, the Keyblade wielder would need transportation of some kind.
That was where Donald and Goofy came in.
With the help of Chip and Dale, they had designed a flying vehicle known as the Gummi Ship.
They could use it to travel between worlds.
Such technology was usually kept secret.
They would locate this keyblade bearer and help them find against the Heartless.
That way they could prevent worlds from being destroyed by them.
It was fortunate that another keyblade wielder had been chosen. Dark times were up ahead.
They said that a dark tyrant by the name of Mortimer Mouse was rising to power.
He was a keyblade wielder, like Mickey himself.
And yes, once again a Disney character was going through adaptational villainy.
He had gathered allies such as Magica De Spell (aka, the witch that was obsessed with Scrooge McDuck's dime) and the Mad Doctor.
People could be drawn to the power of darkness. Riku knew it all too well.
Mortimer Mouse had decided to embrace the power of darkness...and unfortunately, it had corrupted him.
But with a new keyblade bearer, perhaps they could win against Mortimer.
Off to find this new keyblade wielder they went.
Hopefully their gummi ship wouldn't crash.
Well, Chef's back to normal. But can anything be done about the Heartless?
If left unchecked, they will turn all the campers into more of them. Even Zoey can't hold them off forever. And I'm sure we don't want her world to be destroyed.
And yes, some of the Heartless' victims will plausibly become Nobodies as well. Though it's on the fence as to how human they'll look.
I figured a Darkside would suit Chris. He's the host of this show so I figured that he would become a giant Heartless. I could have come up with something more original but then again, the Darkside is kind of an iconic Heartless, wouldn't you say?
I bet Owen would become a Large Body if he turned into a Heartless.
See you later!
