Next Morning

Jane and Maura were hurrying around, getting ready for work and discussing the coming week. As Jane was about to leave, she kissed Maura, who stopped her and asked, "Cooking at your place tonight?"

Jane stopped and thought, and finally said, "yes. What are you thinking of for tonight's meal?"

Maura thought for a minute before settling on, "Tenderloin?"

Jane stopped, smiled and kissed her on the lips. "Actual meat? I'm in."

Maura rolled her eyes. "Yes, actual meat. See you at lunch?"

BPD HQ

Jane was engrossed in the file she had requested and didn't hear Maura approaching. She finally looked up as Maura sat on the edge of her desk.

"Hey! I didn't hear you approaching. What's up?"

Maura smiled and pointed to her watch. "Lunch?"

Jane began stuffing all of her papers into a folder and locking that in her desk. She stood up, asked Korsak if he wanted anything for lunch and headed to the elevator with Maura. Once inside, she stole a kiss from Maura and gave her hand a squeeze.

They went to the deli around the corner and Jane had a cheese steak with chips, and Maura had a cobb salad. As they ate, they discussed the case file Jane had gotten, and then the conversation went to Angela and where they were going to take her for dinner.

"Jane, do you think she might react better if we do it at either your house or mine?"

Jane thought for a minute before answering, "Neutral. We need to take her somewhere quiet, secluded and yet still in public."

Maura chuckled. "Any ideas?"

"Down by the water front with a hot dog from the cart nearby?"

Maura frowned. "I am not eating anything that comes from that rolling den of disease and bacteria."

Jane held her hands up. "Ok." She took her phone out and dialed her mother. "Ma? Yeah, Friday night Maura and I want to take you to dinner. What? No...reason. Just...Ma, we just want you to join us for dinner, ok?"

Maura smirked at Jane as she finished her salad.

Meanwhile...

"Fr. Bick, Janie has invited me to dinner with her and Maura on Friday. I think maybe they are gonna tell me about them. What should I do?"

Jane's Apartment

Maura had used her key and let herself into Jane's apartment. She was busy preparing everything for their "cooking" night. They tried to do this at least once every couple of weeks, and both women enjoyed getting to spend uninterrupted time together. She was preparing the tenderloin when Jane came barreling into the apartment, arms full of files. She dumped everything on the coffee table, and made her way to Maura. She wrapped the blonde in her arms and held her as she rubbed her back.

"I've never been so happy to see you." She bent her head and captured Maura's lips. As they broke the kiss, Jane took Maura's face in her hands. "I love you."

Maura studied Jane's face and saw the turmoil in her eyes. "I love you too." She cupped Jane's face. "What's wrong?"

"This case file. It's...gruesome. And the things this perp did to these people." She took Maura back in her arms. "And looking at these crime scene photos...I just kept thinking about you and if something like this was done to you..."

"Shhh. I'm right here. I am safe."

Jane kissed her forehead. "But..."

Maura placed her fingers on Jane's lips and shook her head. "No but's. Let's get this started and then we can take a look at those files."

They set about preparing their meal and then settled into the couch as the meal cooked. Jane handed Maura the first file she had received and after she had reviewed it, she handed her the two that had come in today. Luckily, Maura was a quick reader and finished quickly. Jane watched her finish and then tried to wait patiently for her analysis. As the minutes stretched, she grew increasingly impatient.

"Maura!"

Maura looked up at her girlfriend. "You are dealing with a psychopathic serial killer."

"Serial killer? Are you sure?" Jane sat up and took both of Maura's hands in her own. "Maura, how sure are you?"

Maura furrowed her brow. "100%, Jane. I wouldn't guess about something so important. It would be against scientific protocol."

Jane smiled at her and then gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. The oven dinged and both women jumped, then laughed at how spooked they were. They left everything on the coffee table and served dinner at the breakfast bar. As they ate, Jane made a conscious effort to talk about non-work related things, which is how they got on the topic of board games.

"C'mon Maura, everybody has played board games!" Maura shook her head and Jane asked, "Not even Monopoly?" Again Maura shook her head. "Seriously?"

Maura opened the collar of her shirt. "See, no hives." She swatted Jane's hand away as she tried to fondle the doctor's breast. "I was an only child with the close cousins and no...real friends. My parents weren't the board game type. My father and I played chess, but that hardly counts. I always thought it would be fun to have a family game night." Maura shrugged, "If, you know, I had that kind of family."

Jane flipped open her phone and dialed Frankie. "What are you doing tomorrow night, Maura?

"I have some medical journals to read, why?"

Before Jane could respond, Frankie answered her call. "Frankie, Monopoly night tomorrow at Maura's. She's never played. Seriously. Call Ma and tell her. 7:30?" She glanced at Maura, who nodded. "Pizza?" Maura again nodded. "Ok, Frankie. Talk tomorrow."

Seeing Jane excited, excited Maura. She pulled Jane's hand and walked them toward the detective's bedroom. Once in the room, she spun Jane around and pushed her onto the bed. She climbed on top of her girlfriend and began stripping, giving Jane a birds eye view of her breasts. She helped Jane undress and they made love.

"I love you, Jane." She pulled Jane's arm more snugly around her. "I love how excited you get when doing something for me. I feel loved."

Jane kissed the back of her head. "You are loved, and I love that you feel comfortable here." She shifted and Maura could tell she was trying to work up to saying something.

"What is it, Jane? You're shifting in that way you do when you are about to say something you aren't sure you should say."

Jane started to object, but realized Maura was correct. "I...I love having you here. I love my apartment, but it's not...not fancy or as nice as your house." She shrugged.

Maura turned in Jane's arms and kissed her. "Jane, this is your home. It feels like you, smells like you, oozes you from every nook and cranny. And I love that as I love you."

Jane hugged her and kissed her. "I love you."

The Next Day

Jane and Korsak were enjoying a relatively quiet day with no murders, catching up on the never ending routine that was paperwork. At lunch, she went down to the morgue in search of Maura, finding her elbow deep in a body.

"I was going to see if you wanted to grab lunch, but I can see you have other plans."

Maura looked up and gave Jane a half smile, by way of apology. "Western Mass is backed up and this is a rush, so I took it."

Jane looked over Maura's shoulder and grimaced at what she saw, a gnarly mess where this person's stomach used to be. "What did that? Or do I want to know?"

Maura looked up. "Shotgun blast to the stomach. Only question is homicide or suicide?" She put her scalpel down and leaned back against Jane. "She's young, 22 and they are holding her boyfriend on suspicion of murder, pending autopsy results." Maura leaned her head back and before Jane could think better of it, she stole a kiss. Quick, brief and benign.

Maura, still leaning against Jane, states, "I dislike autopsies on young people. No matter the cause of death." Maura straightened up and Jane came to stand beside her. "See you tonight?"

Jane smiled at her. "Ma is getting pizza from that place you like, Tomato Head. And we are getting a veggie topping pizza just for you."

Maura smiled and squealed, "Thank you!" She lowered her voice, "If I didn't have my hands inside a corpse, you would get so lucky!"

Jane was backing out of the morgue when she replied, "I already am."

Maura's House

Jane watched in amusement as Maura hurried around her house, trying to clean up her messy living room. She enjoyed watching her normally unflappable girlfriend being flustered. Maura kept dusting a spot that Jane knew was dust free. It took another minute for Jane to realize something bigger was going with the doctor. She moved in front of Maura, forcing her to stop.

"Maura, what's going on?"

"I've never hosted a game night before. I want it to be good and I want your mother to think it's good." She looked up at Jane with a pitiful look on her face. "I want her to like me."

Jane took her in her arms and held her, rubbing her back. "Maura, it's ok. Ma already loves you." She gave her a sweet, comforting kiss, which Maura turned into a deep kiss.

Meanwhile...

Frankie dropped Angela and the game off at Maura's as he went to pick-up the pizza. Angela had made her way up the walkway and glanced at the window. She inwardly swore for not calling first, as she watched her daughter and Dr. Isles doing what could conservatively be called a throat culture on each other. She ducked down and made her way back down the walkway, where she used her cell to call Jane.

Jane pulled away from Maura as her phone rang. "It's Ma." She flipped her phone open as she wiped her mouth. "Ma?"

"Jane, I'm just heading up the walkway to Maura's. I brought the game, can you open the door for me?"

Jane snapped the phone shut and hurried to the front door. "Ma's here!"

Angela tried to look everywhere but at her daughter and Maura. She asked where to set the game up and busied herself doing that until Frankie arrived. She opened the door and ushered him in and directed him to the kitchen, where she plated the pizza for everyone.

Jane watched her mother with curiosity. Never had she seen her mother put pizza on an actual plate. One you had to wash. "Ma?" Her mother looked at her and she asked, "What are you doing?"

Angela Rizzoli wanted to tell her daughter she was doing everything she could to avoid looking at her daughter and Maura. That she knew they were an item and even if Maura were a man, she wouldn't be comfortable looking at them after seeing what she had seen. Granted, she could look at them a bit easier if it was a heterosexual relationship, but no mother should ever see her child, especially a daughter, in that state. Instead, she shrugged.

"Giving game night a bit of class, Jane."

After they ate, they moved to the game and Jane picked up the dice to roll for turn order. Before she could roll, Maura stopped her. "Jane, what are you doing?"

"We each roll the dice and highest number goes first and so on. Why?"

"Shouldn't we go over the rules of the game? I read the rule book. Maybe we should refresh everyone's memory?"

Jane, Frankie and Angela all looked at each other and then Maura. "Uh, Maura, I think we are all good on the rules." She looked at her brother and mother who nodded.

"Oh. Ok." She scooped up the dice and rolled a 12.

2 Hours Later

Maura landed on Free Parking and scooped up the stack of bills that were under the board. Frankie threw his hands up and Jane swore. Angela immediately mortgaged all of her properties and cashed out. She went in search of ice cream. Maura was stacking her windfall by denomination when she realized Frankie and Jane were looking at her.

"I told you the money under Free Parking rule was not actually a rule and we should play by the rules, but the three of you vetoed me." She handed the dice to Frankie who rolled and promptly landed on Park Place, which had a hotel and was owned by Maura.

In disgust, he stood up and announced, "I quit," on his way to the kitchen to find his mother and hopefully, ice cream. Maura looked over at Jane who was scowling at her.

"I think you cheated, Maura."

"I did not!" Maura was indignant.

Jane scrutinized Maura for a couple of minutes, looking for the beginning of hives. Finding none, she felt the need to remind Maura what cheating was. Still seeing no sign of hives, she gave up and sat back, arms crossed.

Maura, unable to withstand Jane's silence, felt the need to justify her game play.

"Jane, my game play is based on science."

Frankie and Angela heard what Maura said as they came back in with ice cream. In unison they all said, "Science?"

Maura sat up straight and began her lecture on Monopoly. "The board consists of 40 spaces containing 28 properties, 3 Chance squares, 3 Community Chest squares, a Luxury Tax square, an Income Tax square, GO, Jail, Free Parking, and Go To Jail. There are four sides to the board, 10 spaces on each side, two standard dice." Maura finished and looked at the three of them as if it should be easily explained.

"Of course! Frankie, Ma, why didn't we think of that?" She took a bowl if ice cream and began eating, as did Maura, Frankie and Angela.

They sat talking for another half hour until first Jane and then Maura's phones rang.

"Rizzoli."

"Isles."

Almost immediately they both hung-up and said, "We have a body."

Frankie looked at Jane and said, "Can I come?"

Jane glanced between him and their mother. "I'll text you the address, but take Ma home first, ok?"

She turned to Maura, "Ride together?"

Maura nodded and went to get her medical bag. Jane followed Maura to the front door and held it open for her. Maura sat her medical bag down and slipped her arms into the jacket Jane held for her. Picking her bag up, she adjusted her hair and followed Jane out.

On the way to the crime scene, they both got another call informing them of two more bodies in the same area. Maura grimaced at the thought of three dead bodies. Jane inhaled and mumbled, "We may have a serial killer."

Frankie's Car

Frankie was trying to get his mother out of his car so he could get to the crime scene, but Angela was taking her sweet time.

"Frankie, do you like Maura?" At his look she clarified, "As a person, not a date."

Frankie smiled. "Yeah, Ma, I like her. I think her friendship with Janie is good for both of them." He shrugged. "Maura is a good person. Good at her job, honest and smart." He looked over at his mother. "Why? Don't you?"

Angela opened the car door and smiled. "Yeah, I like her. I think she's good for Janie."

Crime Scene

Jane and Korsak were standing at the edge of a growing crime scene, crawling with CSRU techs. Maura had done a cursory examination of the four bodies they had uncovered so far. The original three bodies had already been transported back to the morgue. As Maura joined them, Korsak was called away by a cadet. Jane and Maura were standing close to each other, shoulders barely touching, surveying the scene.

"This is bad, Maura."

Maura looked up at Jane and nodded. "Yes. I'm going to the morgue and getting started on the autopsies. I'm going to do them all myself."

Jane turned to face Maura and gently guided her under a tree, where she brought the doctor's hand to her mouth and discretely kissed the knuckles.

"Call me in a few hours and please, be careful." Jane glanced around, finding the coast clear, she quickly kissed Maura's cheek. "I love you."

Maura went to get in the forensics van, Jane went in search of Korsak, and high above them, crouched in a tree watching Jane and Maura, was the killer.
