Chapter 16: The Remedy

Winterfell – 2 days until the full moon

Bran POV

The same dream again. He was walking again, through Winterfell. He tried calling out but was met with the same sound again: the call of a crow. He walked to the highest tower; there he found the crow again; adorned with three eyes. "Brandon Stark" it squawked out, Bran walked forward, reaching out to touch the crow. As he touched the crow, its eyes turned pale white like milk, as well as Bran's. His mind would flash images to him; Winterfell in ruin, a large shadow eclipsing a city, a man in black being stabbed, a frozen land enveloped in darkness, and bright blue eyes staring back at him.

Bran pulled his hand back, and as he did he was falling from the tower, he did not scream, embracing the moment. The crow flew down, gliding down with him, "Fly". "I can't" "How do you know if you haven't even tried?" Bran was breathing frantically, as he closed his eyes, deciding to take the crow's advice, as he spread his arms out in vain, hoping for a miracle. All of a sudden, he felt himself rising; Bran opened his eyes realizing that he was flying. A smile graced his face, as he soared upward towards the clouds. As he reached the top, he looked down seeing everything. He could see Winterfell, King's landing from the south, as he panned his eyes he could see the Wall and the Land of Always Winter. His curiosity got the better of him as he turned his head to the east; showing the wonders of the world.

He could see everything of the known world; of Essos, Sothoryos, Ulthos, and the vastness of the seas that lay before him. Bran bore witness to Asshai where dragons stirred, the grand cities of Yi Ti, the Five Forts, the Dothraki Sea, plus the wonders and terrors of the world. As he flew, he looked down and saw many corpses that lined the ground, mountains, and mountains of bones. He dared not look at them, but he could not peer away, "What are they?" he asked. "Those who dream like you, but failed to fly" the crow spoke. "What do you want?" "Peace" the crow spoke. Bran was bewildered, as he stared at the crow "Why me?" "Fate binds you, Brandon, your destiny is beyond the North". He stared towards the North; the Land of Always Winter seemed to close onto him. He now stood upon a frozen barren land, an abandoned frozen structure of ice laid before him, as the sky darkened.

All of sudden, the darkness was beginning to swallow Bran; as many hands of pale flesh reached out of the ground grasping Bran's body. Bran tried to fly away, yet he could not as the cold hands held him down, he started to hear whispers of his family, their voices pleading for his help. "The cold brings the true enemy," the crow said, Brandon looked as paled shadows of ice walked towards him, their eyes blue as sapphires. The leading figure walked forward, covered in a shroud, his skin was pale blue, his amour black as night, and sat upon his head a crown of iron. Brandon's heart was beating out of his chest when suddenly; the figure grasped his arm, what he felt was indescribable. A searing hot pain shot through his arm, as he watched his arm become pale blue as it turned to ice. Bran screamed out, trying to pull away, yet the figure kept his hold on him while staring deep within his soul. "Seek me out, or be forever lost. You have not unlocked the third eye," the crow squawked as the dream started to whirl, as Bran screamed, he rose in his bed.

He was covered in sweat, looking to his left, it was morning, and it was then he noticed that his wolf Summer, was on the bed looking directly at him. Bran relaxed a bit, realizing he was in his bed; he fell back, taking in what he saw. Osha came into the room, "Time to get up little Lord, your siblings are breaking their fast" as she came over she saw Bran's worried look, "The same dream?" Bran nodded. "Do you want me to tell your siblings you're unwell?" "No, I'm fine" as Osha picked me up, carrying me out to the great hall. Osha was a wilding that came under their service when she and her companions try to capture him for ransom. She had proven herself useful when taking care of him and his younger brother Rickon.

"Osha" "Hmmm" "Do you happen to know something about a three-eyed crow?" Osha hung her head in thought, "Can't say there are any tales of a three-eyed crow, perhaps you shall consent Luwin about this". As we were heading towards the great hall, a guard approached us, "Excuse me my lord, your brother has requested your presence in the yard" "What for" "Riders are approaching Winterfell, they carry the black lizard-lion".

Sansa POV

She stood beside her younger sister, wearing her light blue wear, as she and her family waited to greet their guests. Three riders entered the gate; the one leading the two must have been Howland Reed. Father had described him as short like the crannogmen, he was built lean but quite thinned, with a thick beard covering his face. He wore a shirt of bronze scales, covered in a green cloak, with his house sigil on his back. The two other riders were quite young, Sansa suspected they must be his children.

The smallest lad was short and slim with unusually deep green eyes, wearing green-colored clothing. He seemed slightly older than Bran but held a sullen look on his face. What Sansa assumed to be his sister, was short and slim like the boy, her long brown hair knotted behind her head with those same green eyes. The man approached my brother as he kneeled, "It's an honor to meet you Robb Stark" "The pleasure is mine, Lord Reed, Winterfell welcomes your arrival" Lord reed stood up as he motioned to the other two, "These are my children, my son Jojen Reed and my daughter Meera Reed" as both of them kneeled. "Of course, my visit is for a particular reason" as his eyes landed on me, "Let's discuss in the solar" as Robb motioned for me to follow.

The three of us walked along until reaching our father's solar, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Lady Sansa, you have your mother's beauty" "Thank you, Lord Reed, father has told us of you had saved him when he against the three king's guards" Lord Reed waved his hand, "Your father exaggerates, what I did, anyone would have done in the same situation". "I believe you know why you are here Lord Reed," Robb asked, Lord Reed, nodded solemnly, "Lord Stark told me of Sansa's condition and I believe I have a solution". Lord Reed reached into his satchel, pulling out a scroll. He unraveled the scroll on the table, revealing a recipe for what looked to be a potion, with a picture of a wolf.

"This was a scroll I found when I went to the Citadel. From what it transcribes a potion called the Wolfsbane. Its use was for individuals who suffered lycanthrope, by making it so the person is in control during the night of the full moon" Sansa's breath hitched in her throat, the thought that she would be in control seemed to bring some comfort to her. "Is this permanent Lord Reed?" "Unfortunately no, the user will have to continuously take the potion on the day of the full moon and a day before. I have even found records stating that drinking the potion several days like four to five days in a row before the full moon, seems to also work". Robb nodded, and folded his hands on the table, "How long will it take for you to concoct the potion?" "It will take at least a day to create it".

"Whatever materials you need, I will provide them to the best I can," Robb said. "Thank you, my Lord, I shall begin brewing" as Lord Reed bowed before leaving the room. Robb got up from his seat and walked over to me grabbing my hands, "How are you feeling?" I smiled, "Excited, nervous and anxious. I'm hoping this will work, I don't want to feel like an outcast" "I promise you dear sister this will work" pulling me into a hug.

The evening of the full moon

Howland POV

The sun was nearly setting behind the hill, as Howland sat right outside the cabin that housed Sansa Stark. It was beaten, and many gashes in the wall and doors showed claw marks. When he received that raven so long ago, he was skeptical at first when his old friend said that his daughter was inflicted with this curse. Only when he dug through the archives in the Citadel, did Eddard's words prove some validity. As he looked up, he saw Sansa Stark and Robb accompanied by a few guards as well as their direwolves. "Lord Stark, lady Stark" both nodded to him, "Did you take the potion my lady?" she nodded, as she wiped a sweat bead from her forehead. Sansa stepped into the cabin as the guards chained her up, locking the door as we waited.

The wind was calm, as the light slowly crept away; I looked up at the sky as the moon appeared behind the clouds. Suddenly, a scream interrupted the silence, as Sansa Stark's moans and screams emanated from within the cabin. The screams then turned to animalistic growls before a howl rang out. Silence enveloped the setting, everyone was looking at each other, and "Sansa are you there?" There was no answer, "Perhaps I should take a look" "If I may my lord, we should approach this with caution" I stepped forward with my sword in hand. As soon I placed my hand on the door, it was a hit with a ferocious hit, making a small hole through the door.

Yellow eyes pieced through the hole as the creature eyed me down, growling, revealing its sharp canines in the moon's light. I stood up, fear gripping my heart, "Why didn't the potion work?" I took a breath, "Forgive me my Lord this was my first time brewing this potion, so the potion could have some improvements". Lord Stark nodded, as the werewolf crept back into the cabin, its eyes never leaving their sight. "You can go, Lord Stark, I can handle if anything were to go astray" "No, I want to stay to make sure you aren't injured on Sansa's account, plus father would never forgive himself if his friend was mauled by his daughter". I smiled as both Robb and I sat together counting down the minutes until dawn.

Tell me what you think and I will see you very soon, later.
