A small sigh left Reyna as she stared out the door. It was pouring rain, and she was not looking forward to driving in it. Her head was also bouncing around everywhere as she tried to work through the last hour. Reyna rubbed her eyes.
"Can I ask you something?" Rachel questioned as she stepped next to Reyna.
"You did just spend the last hour asking me questions," Reyna commented. Her gaze moved to Rachel, and a small smile came to her face. "But yeah, what is it?"
"Is this as bad as you thought it would be?"
"No, it's not."
"I can make it worse if you want," Rachel joked. Reyna smiled. "I know you were hesitant about all of this, so I wanted to make sure you were still comfortable."
"I am. I'm just... trying to keep my emotions in check," Reyna muttered. She chewed her bottom lip, and her gaze flickered to Rachel. "You mentioned that you knew about an anger management program?"
Rachel handed her a business card, "As mad as you looked the last time we talked about it, I figured you were coming around to that realization. Don't be discouraged, though; you're making good progress."
"Thank you, Rachel. You have a good night," Reyna said as she put the business card in her wallet.
"You too," Rachel returned. Reyna nodded to her and flipped her hood over her head. Rushing outside and to her car didn't stop her from getting absolutely soaked. As Reyna got in her driver's seat, she looked at the time. It was eight at night, but she was starving.
Reyna sent a text to Nico asking if he wanted food, and it took him about ten seconds to respond. A smirk came to Reyna's face as she started to drive. She carefully navigated along the road, going well below the speed limit.
Reyna stopped at a fast food place and ordered most of the menu. After waiting, she headed back toward her place. The rain had let up slightly, but she was still careful as she drove. Her gaze kept shooting around the road as if she was worried a tree would come out and hit her. Her paranoia caused her to see someone on the side of the road.
A frown touched Reyna's face as she slowed down. A person was sitting on the side of the road, and they had their knees pulled to their chest. A helmet was on their head, and that helmet rested on their knees. They wore a blue leather jacket that made Reyna's breath catch in her throat as she saw it.
Reyna took a deep breath as she studied a motorcycle that she knew all too well. Part of her wanted to slam her foot down on the gas and not stop until she was home. The rest of her couldn't do that. It wasn't morally right, and Reyna would beat herself up every day for it.
But, this was going to suck.
Reyna stopped her car and threw on her hood. She got out of the car and walked towards the person and the crashed motorcycle. Reyna crouched by them and spoke, "Thalia."
Thalia didn't move an inch. Reyna looked at the motorcycle. It looked like it had been driven into the ditch. Reyna spoke, "Are you hurt?"
"What do you care?" Thalia muttered sourly. She slowly lifted her head. The face plate was cracked. "...Reyna? Oh great. My punishment, right?"
"Thalia, you're slurring," Reyna stated. "Are you drunk?"
"Why do you give a shit?" Thalia muttered. She tried to stand, and her leg instantly buckled. Reyna caught her. "Get off me!"
"Thalia, you're hurt," Reyna persisted as she tried to steady her ex. Thalia tried to shove away, but Reyna didn't let her move. "Just let me look at you."
"It's just an injury from work," Thalia grumbled as she tried slithering out of Reyna's grasp. Reyna picked Thalia off the ground slightly and carried her toward the backseat of the car. She opened the door and forced Thalia to sit inside. "Just leave me alone."
"Thalia, it is pouring rain, and you were just in a wreck. I'm either going to call an ambulance or look over you myself, okay?" Reyna decided as her temper was short-circuiting because she could not handle seeing Thalia right now.
"It was barely a wreck," Thalia muttered. Reyna helped her pull her helmet off. There were no bruises on Thalia's face, and it didn't look like she had taken any damage. Reyna gently rolled up Thalia's pant leg and saw a brace underneath. "Told you."
"Why are you drinking and driving?" Reyna questioned. Thalia glared at her, and she reeked of alcohol. "Thalia, what the hell happened?"
"Like you give a damn," Thalia spat. She tried to get out of the car, and Reyna stopped her. As she did, she saw the open wound on Thalia's knuckles.
"You got into a fight."
"It wasn't a fight," Thalia corrected with a glare. "I'm sure you'll be happy to know that Zoë broke up with me."
"Why would that make me happy?" Reyna muttered. She shook her head. "Let me guess, you got pissed at her and punched the wall. Did you slam your helmet into something?"
"What if I did?" Thalia demanded. "And who the hell are you to lecture me about my temper?"
"Where are you staying?" Reyna asked as she ignored the jab. Her heart was racing in her chest as her stomach turned, but she just needed to ignore it. Thalia didn't answer. "Thalia, just answer me so I can get you out of this rain."
"Why?" Thalia asked after a moment. "Why do you care so much?"
"Because I'm not going to leave you out in this rain," Reyna stated. She stood, and Thalia stood up with her. Thalia eyed her up and down before meeting Reyna's sight. The next thing she knew, Thalia was kissing her.
A hand ran up Reyna's jacket, and she felt her heart drop to her stomach. Reyna wanted nothing more than to pin Thalia to her car and make out with her, but she knew it wouldn't help. It was only going to make it worse. Thalia was only kissing her because she wanted to go further and bury her feelings along the way.
Reyna forced herself to pull away. She chewed on the inside of her lip as Thalia studied her. Reyna slowly spoke, "I'll just drive you to my place; it's closest."
Thalia didn't say a word. Reyna helped her sit back in the car and grabbed Thalia's fallen helmet. She placed it in the backseat and then walked towards the ditch. Reyna did her best to maneuver Thalia's bike out of the ditch.
After the fourth time slipping back in the mud, she shook her head in annoyance and walked back towards her car. As she sat inside, she saw that Thalia was passed out in the backseat. Reyna wiped her mouth to get rid of the taste of alcohol. She was soaked from the rain and the mud.
As Reyna drove to her apartment, she let out a tired sigh. She didn't care what happened between Thalia and Zoë, and she hated that Thalia just tried to make out with her. Why the hell didn't she just keep driving?
When Reyna made it to her apartment, she let out another tired sigh. The first thing she did was grab all the food and bring it inside. Nico was watching the television. He looked at her, and a look of confusion came to his face. Reyna sat the food down and shook her head.
"I saw a crashed motorcycle on the road that belonged to Thalia. She's asleep in my car," Reyna explained.
"Is she hurt?" Nico asked after a moment.
"No," Reyna answered. "I'll be right back."
Reyna walked outside and towards her car. She picked Thalia up and carried her into the apartment. Reyna carried her towards her bed, and Nico followed. He laid out towels on the bed, and as Reyna laid Thalia down, she gently took off her jacket.
Reyna hung it up and laid a spare blanket over Thalia. Then, she walked back to the living room with Nico and grabbed a carton of fries. Nico studied her as he grabbed his food.
"I'm going back for her bike," Reyna informed. Nico nodded and remained silent. "Am I being an idiot?"
"No," Nico answered with a sigh. "Personally, I would let her bike rust, but I know you're not going to do that."
"She tried to kiss me too," Reyna muttered. "Well, no; she did kiss me. I miss her, Nico."
"I know," Nico replied. He seemed to think about it and sighed again. "If you think you should get back together..."
"No," Reyna declined. She shook her head resolutely. "I really did enjoy dating Thalia, and I really miss her. I just know that the reasons we got together weren't right, and with how bad our breakup was, it will only get worse. We can't work past our problems. We just scream about them."
Reyna shook her head again and walked towards the door. Nico spoke, "Do you need help?"
"I can handle it," Reyna promised. "I'll bring the bike back here. Can you give me a ride back to my car?"
"Of course," Nico said. Reyna smiled at him. "Just stay safe."
"I will," Reyna promised. She turned and left the house. Reyna made it to her car and sat inside. She grabbed her phone and stared at it. Then, she sent a text to Jason explaining what had happened. Hopefully, he hadn't blocked her number and would have read it. For now, she would focus on getting the motorcycle out of the ditch.
