More and more months passed until Summer finally gave birth. She named her Ruby Rose.
When she brought her back to Tais house, Yang absolutely adored her, all she wanted to do was play with her despite her not being able to do much. She even caught Tai cracking a smile when around her.
A week later, Summer leaned on the kitchen counter. She was deep in thought about what to do next. The happiest day of her life, also filled her with dread when she saw that her daughters eyes were silver.
Silver eyes were recessive, she had hoped that she wouldn't inherit them, yet she did. If Salem ever found out about her existence, she would be endlessly hunted. She couldn't let that happen. Unlike Summer, Ruby would be defenseless against Salem's goons for years. The only reason Summer stopped getting hunted was because Salem got tired of losing minions to her. She would have to talk to Oz about what could be done. Maybe she could ask for some kind of protection until she's old enough to defend herself.
But that would have to wait, she was safe for now, not many people knew she was born, and besides there was a far more pressing matter, Raven.
Throughout her pregnancy her guilt had turned into a pure anger toward her. She abandoned her own child. The thought alone made her grip her fists in anger.
Summer had made up her mind, she was going to find her and get her to come back, by force if necessary. She loved Yang with all her heart, but the girl deserved her real mother..
"Summer." Tais' voice came from behind her causing her to jump. She turned and was surprised by what she saw. He looked better. Much better. He shaved that hideous giant beard he'd been growing, he didn't smell like weeks old garbage, and there was an actual spark of life in his eyes. She was at a loss for words
"Tai, you're up?" she said after a few moments.
"Yeah, surprising right?" He said sarcastically.
Summer couldn't help, but smile, it was like seeing an old friend come back to life.
"Look Summer, I just want to say I'm sorry. You were right. I wasn't there for Yang when she needed me, I kept you away from your huntress duties and let a pregnant girl take care of me and a kid that's not even hers."
"Tai, you don't-" he put his finger to her lip.
"Please, just let me finish." Summer just nodded slightly. Her face turned a little red.
"I probably would have stayed helpless, if I didn't see our baby. She's a beautiful Summer."
"I know." She whispered. She had tears in her eyes, but for the first time in a long time they were tears of joy. It was a feeling she would have forgotten entirely if not for Yang.
"Just like you." She blushed harder.
"I-I just want you to know I think you're the most incredible, fantastic and beautiful girl on Remnant." Tai moved his face closer to her and before Summer knew it Tai was kissing her. She was taken back, she gently pushed him away from her. "Tai, we shouldn't, what about-"
"Don't say her name." He said gently. "She left me. She made her choice. Now we can do this, without guilt or risk."
"But, I don't think-" Tai backed up and turned away. He looked embarrassed. "Sorry. I should have guessed you didn't want me after all this." He began to walk away, but Summer grabbed his hand and pulled him back around. "That's not true! Tai, I feel the same way about you now as I always did. Despite everything, I've always loved you, but I just don't think its the right time right now. I'm sorry."
"It's fine." He said, pulling his hand away, and walking away.
The next morning, Summer woke up early, the sun had barely risen and the birds were just starting to chirp.
She threw on her combat outfit, and gear. She slid her sword, Venus, into the sheath on her back, her whip, Jupiter, attached to the side of her skirt, her sawed off, Rupter, went on the holster on her lower back, and her pistol, Dies Terminus to the one on her other hip.
Now came the hard part. She wasn't expecting to be able to go after Raven for a while, because of Tais state. He was so depressed she didn't want to leave the two kids with him, but he seemed so much like his old self last night. Granted that was before she shot him down. She knocked on the door not knowing what she would await her. If he was down again she'd have to postpone. It was early, but she knew he'd been awake. His sleeping schedule has been all out of whack since she knew him.
Tai opened the door and saw her geared up.
"Summer? Where are you off to?" Tai said sleepily.
"I've got something I gotta do. I'll be back before you know it." She smiled.
"They got you working already? You just had a baby though." Summer waved him off. "It'll be fine, but I just want to know if you could watch Yang and Ruby till I get back. I won't be long,I'll be back in a week if it's even that."
"Yeah, of course I can, I'm their dad after all."
"Good, that's what I like to hear." She smiled.
"Alright, be careful out there." he said with a hint of sadness in his voice.
"I always am." She smiled.
She could tell Tai wasn't happy about it, but she had to go.
She walked out of the room and headed down the stairs, she would be back soon, right after she talked with Raven.
