It had been a week since Kuri had seen Haise like that. Haise was avoiding her, he knew he was, but what could he say to her after that?

He was half-ghoul, he knew that, but he had never wanted to share that with her. It was over between them, and that's how it had to stay.

So he was very relieved when Mado gave him a Ghoul informant to protect. It was a young woman who had information on Ghouls that made her a target.

It was possible she was a tie to the Aogiri, so she was important, and he had to protect her.

"Don't worry, you're safe with me," Haise insisted. "Come on."

He offered her a seat on the back of his motorcycle.

Chitose was surprisingly hesitant. "I don't know about this. My hiding place was good."

"You were discovered, and quickly." Haise said firmly. "I'm taking you to a safe house."

Chitose sighed. "If you say so. I'm in your hands, Sasaki." She got on the motorcycle, and they drove off.

But a safe journey was not to be.

They were quickly cornered by Aogiri, confirming Haise's suspicions. He got off, and defended Chitose.

But somehow, Aogiri had gotten ahold of some of the CCG's anti ghoul weaponry.

After getting shot several times, Haise grabbed Chitose and they fled to a little hidden motel.

The wounds were so bad, and now he was famished. Haise slumped on the bed, trying to keep collected, while Chitose panicked.

"I…" Chitose paced. "I can't let them kill me…Sasaki you have to protect us!"

Haise looked up. "Us?"

"I'm pregnant…" Chitose confessed. "And a ghoul is the father. CCG promised me amnesty for my baby in exchange for my information. But Sasaki…I can't die!"

Haise leapt to his feed and crossed to the bathroom and locked the door.

On his way he thrust a piece of paper and phone into Chitose's hand. "Call this number. Tell Christy Singer our location, and that this is an emergency! Speak to no one else, and do NOT open the bathroom door no matter what I say!"

He slammed the door. Injured like this, he didn't trust himself around a human. He was too hungry, and he wasn't sure of himself, that he wouldn't harm her.

So he had to wait for Christy. If she really was Miko, she could destroy his kagune and weaken him enough that he couldn't harm anyone. He would die.

But no one else would die.
