Chapter 12-In the Office with Logan

Sunday Night, after the boys were put to bed, Karson had come home and was in her room studying, and everyone else left, Rory and Logan sat on the patio looking at the pool toys, towel, and everything else that showed the adventures of the BBQ. Logan was thinking about how he could get used to this. This is what has been missing in his life. He was successful, but that was not enough. He wanted a family. This family is what he wants.

Rory was curled up beside him thinking how safe she felt. She had learned a while back that she didn't need a man in her life, but she wanted one. She wanted this one. Chris and Will seemed to warm up to Logan. It didn't take Will as long as it took Chris, but still, she was smiling remembering Chris on Logan's shoulders while Will was on Louie's. They were having a ball. Her boys seemed happy. That is all she could ask for. Or could she ask for love too? Was it too much to ask to be loved by someone, to be in love with someone that is in love with you?

Rory came out of her fog after Logan called her name several times. After finally getting her attention, Logan asked, "What are you thinking about?"

Rory shook her head and smiled at him. "Just how much fun we had today."

Logan said, "Yeah, me too Ace, me too. But I hate to bring this day to an end, but I have an early morning in New York. I need to get on the road." He leaned over and kissed her gently on the lips. She deepened it. It didn't take but a minute for him to pull back. "Sorry Ace, but I really need to go."

"I worry about you driving this late, you have had a tiring day." She told him.

He untangled himself from her and stood up. "I won't be driving. Frank will be here soon to pick me up." He said as he grabbed his phone and headed to the pool house to shower and change. "He will take me to the Hartford office Helipad."

He was almost to the pool house, he stopped and turned around. "Is it possible to leave the boys with Lorelai and Luke next weekend? I wanted to take you to New York, meet up with the gang."

Rory was gathering up her swimsuit cover up and phone when he started speaking. She stopped, turned to him and said, "I will ask and let you know."

Logan said "good, I will get with the guys and make plans."

Logon opened the pool house door to go take a shower. When he went to close the door, he almost closed Rory up in it. "Ace, what are you doing?"

"I'm following you. I need a shower too." she told him with a smirk.

"Don't you have a shower in the main house?" He asked. It was taking a lot to keep from laughing.

"Sure, but it is missing something," She said, glancing down at the floor. She was being a lot more forward than she normally would be, but then again, this was Logan.

"What? Me?" Logan said. Rory blushed and glanced up at Logan. He let out a hardy laugh and said "If you think the first time in 12 years is going to be in the shower, you are sadly mistaken" Rory blushed even more, this time with her mouth open.

"But Logan," She began. "We used to have fun in the shower."

"No Ace, I can't believe I am saying this, but we are going to wait until next weekend in New York. But you are still welcome to take a shower with me, just no funny business." He told her and turned toward the bathroom. She followed.

After the shower and some heavy petting, Logan left for New York and Rory went upstairs, checked on the boys, and went to bed. It had been a long day, but a happy one.

Logan is at his desk Monday morning before anyone else is in the office. He needed to talk with his dad. See what he thought of moving the Corporate office to Hartford. They could still maintain the New York office, only going in for board meetings and such. He had been thinking about that a lot this weekend. Last night, leaving Rory and the boys was harder than he thought.

Logan had been at his desk for a couple of hours when he noticed the hustle and bustle of the outer office. His secretary John came in to check on him to make sure he had everything he needed for the board meeting. He reminded Logan that the board meeting would be at 12:30 and that lunch was being catered.

When John started out the door, Logan stopped him. "John, have you seen Mitchum this morning?"

John shook his head and said "I will call his office and see if he is in." Logan nodded. Mitchum was out of the office more than in since Logan took over. He was enjoying his retirement. But today was a board meeting. Logan knew he would be in soon.

Logan said, "Have him come to my office at his earliest convenience. Preferably before the board meeting. Or tell him I will come to him. Whichever was better." John nodded, taking notes.

A few minutes later, John buzzed Logan and said Mitchum will be there when he gets off the phone. While Logan was waiting on his dad, he decided to go ahead and call Stephanie.

"Hey, Steph." He said when she answered the phone. He could hear Andy and Colin in the background.

"Hey, Logan, what's up….Colin, Andy stop before he pees his pants." Steph said with her mouth away from the phone.

"Colin or Andy?" Logan asked.

She laughed. "Both." They both got a laugh out of that.

"Steph, Ace and I are going to be in New York this weekend. I plan to bring her with me Friday when I get off work. I will be working in Hartford. Think you can put together a plan for the weekend?" He asked.

"Are we talking low key, or clubs?" She asked.

"How about both. Maybe a club one night, movie night at the penthouse another?" He asked.

"Can do. Should I include her in the plans?" She asked. Mitchum knocked once then entered the office and sat in the chairs across from Logan's desk.

"Yeah, do that…. Hey, I got to go, just text me with any questions. I've got meetings all day. Thanks,...Yeah, Yeah I love you too." Logan told her before hanging up the phone. Mitchum raised an eyebrow at Logan. Logan just shook his head.

"Does that 'I Love You' have anything to do with being summoned to your office?" Mitchum asked.

"Dad, don't be so dramatic. I didn't summon you to my office and that was Steph on the phone, you know my best friend Collin's wife?" Logan told him.

Mitchum laughed and shook his head. "You never know with that crowd you hang out with. Seeing as you are calling me dad, I'm guessing this is not about the board meeting."

"Well no, and yes." Logan said. He stopped and looked at his dad. He was trying to decide the best way to approach him about moving the offices. MItchum has one eyebrow raised. Waiting for Logan to finish.

"I want to start the transition to move the corporate offices to Hartford. Before you say anything. I would leave a small crew here. There will still be board meetings, client meetings, and investment meetings here." He paused again, but Mitchum sat waiting. He knew there was more to this.

"I am moving to Hartford. The logistics will be so much more family-friendly" He said.

"Family-friendly, do you have a family Logan, besides us? Is there something you would like to tell me? Logan you are a grown man, you are CEO of this company. If you want to move the offices, then put together a plan and talk with the board." Mitchum told him.

"You will not oppose it?" Logan asked.

"As I said before, you are a grown man, you are the CEO of this company….as a board member, I don't have a problem with moving the office. As your father, I would like to know why?" Mithcum told him.

Logan took a minute to make sure he worded this correctly. "I am seeing Rory again. She has twin boys, 4 years old. I want to spend as much time with them as possible. Traveling from Hartford to New York every day is going to leave little time for Rory or her boys."

"I see. I seem to remember your mother saying something about her being divorced from a pilot or something. So, she has moved into Richard and Emily's house? Your mother didn't mention that. Is it serious this time? Are you going to move in with her and the children or are you going to move into your apartment in Hartford? I hope this is serious this time. I'm too old to be changing things around just to redo it again in a few months, years." Mitchum said.

"Yes dad, we are serious, I plan to ask her to marry me. Not now, but soon." Logan told him. "And as far as moving in with her, I will at some point, but not at first. We want to ease the boys into something like that….. This is the piece of the puzzle of my life that has been missing." Logan brought his eyes up, meeting his dad' eyes. Mitchum could see something in his eyes that he has not seen since college, since Rory. Mitchum smiled.

"Okay. Draw up a plan, a detailed plan. What is the end goal, what date? I will look over them before we make a presentation to the board."

"Okay, I work on that. I would like to start the new year off in the Hartford office." Logan told him.

Mitchum nodded. "Okay, now let's talk about today's board meeting," Mitchum said. Logan pulls out a binder, opens it, and starts going over the contents with Mitchum.
