Chapter 16 Huntzburger Manor
After a wonderful weekend in New York with Rory and the gang, Logan did not want to think about his dinner with Shari. Honor and Mitchum both knew about Rory. Honor was tickled, Mitchum was okay with it as long as Logan did his job. Shira will probably try to come between them. Well, here goes. He pulls up in the driveway. He had just left Rory's house. He couldn't talk her into coming with him. She said, "next time".
After sitting in the car for a while, not as long as he would hope, he saw lights pulling up behind him. He got out of the car as Mitchum was stepping out of his. Logan met him halfway and shook his hand.
"Dad didn't realize you would be at this shanghai." Logan chuckled.
"Your mother's assistant called and told me that there was a family dinner planned and I was expected to be there." Mitchum laughed, "I called Honor, she told me Shira had demanded a family dinner. She also told me that she is sure that Shira is planning something," Mitchum told his son.
"Dad," Logan said, shaking his head. "I will not stay for dinner if she starts on me. Someone needs to remind her that I hold the purse strings. I'm not playing. If she does not accept Rory and her boys, she will be learning real quick what it is like to live on a budget." Logan told Mitchum.
"Please," Mitchum laughed, "let me be there when you tell her." Logan and Mitchum were met at the door by Joshua and Samuel.
"Momma says you're late," Samuel tells them. "Nana is on the patio smoking again." Samuel looked like a lost puppy.
"Daddy won't let us go to the patio while Nana is out there," Joshua tells them.
"Well, that tells the story of how the evening will go," Mitchum said. Logan agreed with a frown.
Logan and Mitchum enter the sitting room-shaking Josh's hand and kissing Honor on the cheek.
"Where's your mother?" Mitchum asked. Joshua rolled his eyes.
"Pops, I told you she is on the patio smoking," Joshua told him.
"Joshua," Shira says as she enters the sitting room. "It is rude to talk about someone that is not in the room."
"I'm sorry Nana, can we go play in the game room?"Joshua asked. Josh told them it would be okay, that he would call them when dinner was ready.
"I am having a family dinner to spend time with all of you. That includes the boys" Shira said as she looked pointedly at Josh.
"Mom, we all know why you called this 'family dinner'. Let the boys go play. You can spend time with them after we have our discussion." Logan said.
"What discussion would that be?" Shira asked just about the time the doorbell rang. Logan, Honor, Josh, and Mitchum all looked at each other. They were all sure that whoever is at the door would be the start of the discussion.
"Mom, did you invite your lawyer over or is it your new boyfriend.?" Logan asked.
"If I had known I could bring my girlfriend I would have," Mitchum said laughing. Logan and Honor were smiling. This could be interesting.
"I do not know who is at the door. I did not invite anyone." Shira said. Yes, Logan, Mitchum, Honor, and Josh all knew that was a lie.
Everyone was looking at the entrance to the sitting room waiting to see who was interrupting their "family dinner" when the maid entered
"Mrs. Huntzburger, Ms. Jasmine Glendenburge, and Mrs. Patricia Glendenburge are here to see you." Mindy the maid told Shira.
"What," Shira exclaimed. "They are supposed to come to dinner tomorrow night. Oh my, I hope I did not get the dates wrong. This is so embarrassing. Show them in." Shira said as she looked at her family.
"I must have gotten the dates mixed up," Shira said with a fake smile. "It will be fine. Patricia, Jasmine, come on in, have a seat. You remember my family."
"Yes, hello Honor, haven't seen you at the club lately," Patricia said. As she and Jasmine took a seat.
"Well, with school starting it is hard to get to the club. The boys and their extracurricular activities keep me and Josh both busy." Honor answered politely.
"Honor refuses to hire a full-time nanny," Shira said with that fake smile. "She hires these college students to help with the boys. I don't understand why she will not hire a nanny."
"Mother," Honor said more politely than she wanted to. "Let us raise our children please." Patricia and Shira both just shook their heads.
"Kids today," Shira said, with both her and Patricia shaking their heads.
Logan was texting Rory when he noticed Jasmine headed his way. Logan and Honor both realized what was going on at the same time.
"Mother," Logan says as he stands up. "Sorry, but if this is not going to be a 'family dinner' I need to go. I have work to do."
"Logan, don't leave" Shira screeched, "Mitchum stop him"
"Don't think so," Mitchum says as he also stands up. "I believe I will be going too after I say goodbye to my grandsons," Shira excused herself as she left the room to go after Logan.
Logan was at the door when Shira caught up with him. Logan turned around.
"Shira," Logan said, purposely calling her by her name instead of Mom. "I know what you are doing. You know that I am with Rory. I told you that. Inviting Jasmine here is just low down." He stopped and thought about it. "Does she even know what she is doing here? I bet not. I also bet that Robert doesn't know. You do know that they have been dating for several years, right? You are shameless" On better thought, Logan turned around and went back in the sitting room with Shira following close behind.
"Jasmine, would like for me to drop you off at Roberts?" Jasmine looked around finally realizing what was happening and gave her mother a stern look.
"Yes, I would, Shira thanks for inviting me. I would call it a lovely evening, but I think you both know it was not. Honor, call me sometime and we will get together." She got up and took Logan's arm as he led her out the door.
"I hear that you and Rory are back together," Jasmine tells him. "Robert was telling me about you running into her at a coffee shop in New York." Logan and Jasmine continued to talk as the front door slammed.
After dropping Jasmine off at Robert's, Logan called Rory and asked if he could come by. She told him sure.
