Chapter 18 Getting to know the twins.
Rory and Karson had just got the boys dressed when the doorbell rang. Logan answered the door. It was Honor and her crew.
"Uncle Logan," Joshua exclaimed. "You live here now? With Will and Chris?" He wanted to know if his uncle is living with his new friends.
"Yeah," Logan laughed, " When I am not in New York I live here."
"Good, I miss you, Uncle Ogan," Samuel said. Logan picked up his youngest nephew.
"Buddy I miss you and Joshua too. I'm glad I will be close by now." He said putting the boy down as Will and Chris came down the stairs to get them to go play in the playroom.
As Logan was shutting the door, Shira walked up. She smelled of smoke and vodka. Logan looked at Honor and shook his head.
"Hello, Mother," He said. Kissing her on the cheek, "How are you today."
"Well Logan," Shira declared "I'm well." She stood just inside the door, looking around the room. "Does she not have a maid to open the door? And please tell me that I did not hear little Joshua say that you have moved to this house?"
"Yes, Mother," Logan said with a smile. " I am living in the Gilmore Manor" as he was leading his mother to the sitting room. Rory was at the drink cart fixing drinks for Honor and Josh.
Honor stood up when she saw her mother enter the room and kissed her on the cheek.
"Mother, how are you today," Honor asked, wrinkling up her nose at the smell of perfume she was using to cover the smell of cigarettes.
"I am well," she said. "Why do both my children keep asking me that? Do I not look well?"
"Sorry," Honor mumbled as she looked at Logan.
"Well, Mother, I thought I would check," Logan told her. "It seems your credit card shows several visits to the spa this month."
Shira just stared at Logan. She could not believe he was bringing up her credit card bill in front of strangers.
"I do not feel that my spa visits and my credit card are things to be discussed in public." Logan looks at Rory and then Honor.
"Public, Shira, we are not in public. It is just family." Logan told her.
"Family?" Shira says as Karson enters the sitting room. "They" sweeping her arm across at Rory and Karson, "Are not family."
She sat down in the chair next to the couch. Looking around at her surroundings.
"Where is all of Emily's fine furniture? She had such lovely taste. This looks like it was decorated by a motel decorator." Shira said with her nose up in the air.
At this point, Karson is just looking around. She decided now was the time to go.
"Rory, if it's okay with you, I'm just going to take my books and sit in the playroom with the kids," Karson told Rory.
"Karson, wait a minute." Logan stopped her before she headed upstairs, "This is my mother Shira Huntzburger,"introducing her to his mother. "Mother this is Karson"
"Nice to meet you, Ms. Shira," Karson nodded toward Shira.
"That is Ms. Huntzburger," Shira snarked. Then looked around the room like she was waiting on someone to kiss her ring or something.
Logan stared at his mother. Unsure of what he could say to her.
"Karson, I apologize for my mother. She sometimes forgets her manners. I think she must have left them at the spa that she will not be attending any longer" Logan told Karson. Karson smiled. This was going to be fun. Shira made some type of noise that no one paid attention to.
"I'm Josh," Josh stood up, offering his hand to Karson, "Honor's husband, better known as Joshua and Samuel's Dad." Karson shook his hand and told him it was a pleasure to meet him as she started toward the stairs. "
Karson," Logan stopped her. "Take-out will be here shortly." Karson just nodded her head as she went back upstairs.
Everyone sat around and talked. Josh and Logan talked about moving the offices to Hartford. Rory and Honor talked about the boys and Chilton. Shira just sat there drinking her drink. She got tired of being ignored, so she spoke up.
"I thought this meeting was to introduce me to her children," Shira said. Logan looked at Rory and then Honor. Both nodded their heads.
Logan stood up and went to the drink cart and refilled Shira's glass. It was time to talk with his mother.
"Mother, this is not a meeting. This is a family having a meal together. Yes, we want you to meet Will and Chris. They are 4 years old. They will be with us on Thanksgiving as well as their Dad and his girlfriend." Logan told his mother. She raised an eyebrow, or so Logan thought that is what she did, with all the botox he wasn't sure.
"We want you to understand, let there be no mistake. You are to treat Will and Chris as well as you treat Joshua and Samuel. They do not know you so they will be shy. You will put forth an effort to be nice and not scare them." Logan told her. Watching her make sure it was sinking in.
"They have spent time with Dad, and they all get along great. I expect this from you. If you feel that you cannot do this, you need to leave now and not show up tomorrow. Mother, do you understand?" Logan's voice got a little louder than he intended.
Shira just looked at Logan. Rory stood up and walked toward Shira. Logan and Honor were not sure what to do. She stopped in front of Shira as the doorbell rang. Logan looked at Josh and Josh headed for the door to get the take-out.
"Shira, you are in my house." Rory declared. "You will respect me and my family. This meeting as you called it is more for your benefit than the boys. I am here to tell you now, I am not scared of you. I do not need you. You have no power over me. You do not have to like me, but we will get along at family gatherings for Logan and Honor's sake as well as the boys. Is this understood?" Rory stood in front of Shira, waiting for her to acknowledge what she said. Shira just rolled her eyes, snubbing her nose at Rory.
"Mother!" Logan added. "Do I need to remind you who controls your allowance? Who controls the Huntzburger money? It's not dad, It's me. I love Rory and her boys. They are going to be a part of my life until I die. If you cannot respect us as a couple, I need to know now."
Shira cleared her throat, looking straight at Rory.
"Rory, you have a lovely home. Emily and Richard would be proud of you. I hope to visit you, Logan, and your boys here in the future." Shira told her.
"I hope so too." Rory smiled and said "Now, let's get the boys and eat. I'm starving. I saw Josh head for the dining room with the food."
The night went better than Logan, Rory or Honor had hoped. The boys got to know Shira and she looked like she was enjoying herself.
