Chapter 14

August 10, 1993

Isla Nublar, Costa Rica

Visitor Center...

Harry burst through the still unlocked door. He grabbed the door jamb to pivot to his right and started to sprint. Sirius had been working on apparition with him, but Harry hadn't gotten it yet. He silently cursed himself that he hadn't as he made a stairwell and jumped as many as he could while holding the railing.

He burst through the doors at the bottom.

"What the hell!" a man cursed, almost having taken the door to the face.

"Sorry," Harry yelled over his shoulder. He didn't slow down. skidding to a halt near the end of the corridor, Harry pulled the door open. Muldoon and eight of his security officers were huddled around the hood of a jeep. Harry could see two electricians and a maintenance worker standing off to the side.

Muldoon and his people all looked up to him as he barged in.

"Harry, what is going..."

"The raptors! They're escaping. The fences are down," Harry told him as fast as he could.

The mood of the room changed. "Right. Lockdown protocol Blue-one. Umbridge and Conner, you take the electricians to the breaker building. If there is power, get all the fences up manually. Rivers and Roberts, you take Jeep 8 and follow me. Potter, you're with me. Silver, Smith and Jackson, you are here. Keep the jeep warm. Jackson, get the long-range radios and I have authorization from Benning to use live ammo today," Muldoon barked out.

Harry stood up tall. Muldoon trusted him to go out.

Not caring if people saw or not, Harry opened one of the pouches at his side. He withdrew the Sword of Gryffindor, strapping it to his back. He made sure his wand was ready. Yvonne walked up to him. She was holding a dart gun and shoulder strap in one hand, and a pistol with a holster in the other. "Muldoon wanted to know if you wanted live ammo or darts."

Harry considered her for a moment. If it was just a normal day, he would have taken the dart gun. "I have my sword and wand. I don't want anything else right now."

She frowned. "Are you sure"?"

"Yeah."

Jackson came back in with six large walkie talkies. "Ok, one per jeep. Take a short range from the jeep. Let's go," Muldoon called out.

"You ready to have some fun?" his sword tutor asked.

Harry shrugged. "If you call this fun."

Harry jumped into the passenger seat.

Control Room...

Lex blinked to see the door closing. By the time she had turned around, Harry was gone.

"Lex, what did you do?" Mr Arnold asked, coming up to her. "I've been trying for twenty minutes to get in."

"It was easy. This windows system has an administrative backdoor that wasn't locked," she said. "Harry is coming back, right?"

"He better," Benning groused.

"Lex, I need you to show me and then we need to see if we can get the other communications up," Mr Arnold demanded, leaning over her shoulder.

"Uhm, okay," she said. She looked back at the screen, not recognizing most of the icons. "Where is the communications program?"

"Click on Park Control," she was directed by Mr Arnold. She opened it. "Here. This should be the main controls... damn it! He's locked us out!"

Lex had clicked on it and the same picture of some fat guy came up wagging his finger. "This guy is so annoying," she complained, hitting a few commands, then a half-dozen combination of keys and then getting the blue screen she wanted.

"How did you do that?" Mr Arnold asked. Mr Benning and her grandpa were now looking at her.

"What is she doing, John?"

"Shhhh," she said as she started to type. "What's the path to the main drive? It's not the C drive. That is a local one."

"Ah... G\park\main\control," Mr Arnold said.

She typed it in.

"Lex, what are you doing?" Mr Arnold asked, watching as she jumped around.

"Looking for the program log. This is a back system shell that Microsoft made. It's supposed to be super-secret, but any good programmer or hacker knows about it," she said, reading the code as it ran over the screen.

"I've never heard of it," Mr Arnold said.

"Can she do this? What happens if she is messing things up. John, that could shut down the entire park," Benning said over her shoulder.

"I think she knows what she is doing," her grandpa endorsed.

Lex paused the code. "It's right here. Do you know what this command is?"

She pointed to three lines that had called some subroutine with some numbers that looked like a password and a few setting callouts.

"My god. That unlocks all the doors in the building. This one turns the radio-tracking off by shutting down the main radio towers and this one shuts down the communications to all the other computers and controls around the park. What else did he do?" Mr Arnold asked.

"I don't know. There is something here to wipe all keystrokes from the log for twenty minutes. See this, he calls the standard tracking module, but it takes three overwrites to delete this log," she told him.

The man's eyebrows rose. "Fucking asshole. Nedry is trying to destroy this place. I just don't understand why."

Lex scrolled up until she stopped at a series of lines. "Grandpa, there was a lot of data transferred to fourteen disks..." Cocking her head, she added, "It looks like it was stopped halfway through."

Her grandpa looked furious. "Find Nedry and his partner!"

The door to the room opened. A man in the blue of the security guards walked in. "Excuse me, Mr Hammond and Mr Benning, but Muldoon wanted me to give you one of these long-range radios."

"Where is Muldoon? He needs to find Nedry," her grandpa demanded.

"He just went out with a team to get the raptors. Are there any other escapes we need to know about?" the man queried.

Lex looked up from the screen, realizing that Harry wasn't with him. "Where's Harry?"

"He went out with Muldoon," the man said.

"HE WHAT!" she shrieked at the same time Benning yelled, "HE DID WHAT!"

Her grandpa's cane wrapped on the floor. "What is done is done. Alexis, stay here with Mr Arnold and do what you can. Benning, make sure all the guest and staff are in the building and find a way to lock it down. Jackson, please stay here with my granddaughter and get another guard to watch over Timothy and Lynne. Ask Black if he will stay with everyone. Please."

"But Harry just went out there! He says the raptors are the most dangerous dinosaurs you have," she said worriedly.

Her grandpa took a step over and put a hand on her shoulder. "Alexis, I understand. The best thing you can do to protect him is to help Mr Arnold get the computers back online and check the island over. Can you do that for me?"

She felt a little shaken. "Uh, yeah," she told him, turning back to the computer.

"Lex, can you help me understand what Nedry did to turn things off? We need to figure out how to reverse this," Mr Arnold asked in a kind voice.

"Yeah," she said, a little shaken. Her eyes wandered up the screens showing the cameras in the park. A jeep with a Jurassic Park logo could be seen stopped at a fence. One of the guards were closing the gate and using a large rod on it. She thought it was to lock the gate. She hoped it was. Her heart dropped to think that was Harry running off with them.

"Alexis, I don't understand how you got into this log and need to know how to reverse these commands," Mr Arnold told her.

"Right," she said, looking back at the screen. "Right. So, these lines shut off what you said. These next few lines look to clean the logs. What are all these? Buildings or something?"

She could read 'breakershed', 'hydroplant', 'geothermal', 'fencegaurd 1', 'Center 1', 'Center 2' and 'flightcontrol'.

Mr Arnold's cigarette dropped out of his mouth as he looked at the screen. "He's shut down all the monitoring systems and most of the power on the island by forcing all the breakers to fault on everything but the Visitor Center compound. John, all the fences will be down and all other power on the island."

"Find Nedry," her grandpa demanded, wrapping his cane on the floor again.

"Alexis, how did he do all this?"

She looked through the code again, then called up a command prompt. After a moment, she found the command. "He used something called whtrabbt-dot-obj," she told him. "There is more in here."

"Don't worry about that at the moment. We need to focus on all the systems he's turned off," Mr Arnold told her.

She nodded her head, looking up at the camera screens again. She didn't see the jeep in the pictures shown. She did see one of the raptors climbing the fence. "Fuck. Fuck. Fuck," she whispered before turning back to the screen.

By the Valley Southern Gate...

"Say again?" Harry heard Roberts over the walkie talkie as Muldoon pushed the jeep. The clouds had thickened, and fat raindrops were falling. Harry had to tighten his grip on the hand hold over his head as the jeep bounced.

"Confirm three," the voice came over the radio. "Knocked out one. Don't know where the big one is."

"Roger. Lock down the tower. We'll be there in a few minutes," Roberts replied.

"Potter, you stick with Roberts when we get there. You will get Fricks and Turgeon. Tell Roberts that," Muldoon ordered.

"Sure," Harry replied, pulling the walkie-talkie up to his mouth and looking back to see the other jeep not far behind.

"Subdue or kill?" Roberts came over after Harry had told him the other order.

"Kill," Muldoon replied. "Any other beauties, you try to restrain first. If you are threatened, you are free to use live ammunition."

"Okay," Harry said, before relaying that back to the others.

Harry frowned. "You should keep me with you," he told Muldoon.

"I am going to cover you. If something happens, you hole up in the tower," Muldoon ordered.

Harry frowned. He had meant what he told Lex. He wouldn't let anyone else he cared for get hurt if he could help it.

It was a short bit before they burst through the jungle to the clearing before the gatehouse and guard tower. The path of the electric cars could be seen a few hundred yards away. Harry heard the distinctive call of a raptor as they stopped. It didn't sound that far off.

Roberts jumped out of the other car. He slung a small machine gun onto his back, then shouldered a dart rifle. Harry stepped out, pulling out his wand. He moved it in a circle. "Terrus Animalis," he enchanted. Muldoon gave him a questioning look.

"It will make a call like a crow if any animal comes within twenty-five yards," Harry told him.

Muldoon snorted. "Convenient, that."

"I think that's the first time I've seen you use that stick," Roberts said.

Muldoon shouldered a large calibre rifle. "Remember. Shoot to kill if the raptors attack."

Roberts nodded while Rivers moved to use the jeep door for cover, a dart rifle in his hands.

"Let's go, Potter," Roberts said, raising the dart rifle. they had stopped in the middle of the large clearing, putting them a good fifty meters or more from the guard house. The two guards came out to see them.

They moved towards the guard house. "The big one just got out a few minutes ago," one of the guards yelled down.

Harry pulled his sword while putting up a Scutum shield. They would be able to see the velociraptors, but at a full sprint they could easily cover the ground between the jungle and where they were. A three-hundred-foot-wide clearing wasn't much ground to cover.

There was a barking call, which was answered from the other side of the clearing.

"Let's go!" Roberts called up when they were within thirty feet. They had put their back to the guardhouse.

Muldoon was on the back of the jeep. His body was tense as he scanned the undergrowth. Harry would like to do a sensing spell, but it was too far away. The best spells that Sirius had been able to teach him only reached about twenty to twenty-five yards. If he had had time to put it all around the clearing that would have been nice.

The door to the guard tower opened. Harry glanced over. They both had the small machine guns ready to use. It was looking back that had the movement from inside the paddock warn him. "Inside!" Harry yelled as the raptor jumped. He watched in fascination as it easily cleared twelve feet to land on top of the gatehouse. It slipped on the metal bars. The four of them turned, wand and guns coming to bear as it screeched at them.

"I thought you knocked it out," Roberts yelled, a dart leaving his gun as the raptor steadied itself. Harry could see the muscles ripple as it prepared to jump over the fence above the gatehouse.

"We did!" Colbert yelled, his gun coming up.

The shot behind him had Harry turn. Muldoon was pulling the bolt on his gun as Rivers got out, his gun starting to bark out. Three raptors were running full tilt towards the jeep from almost directly behind them, while the fourth was coming in from the other direction. At the speed they were running, it would only take a few seconds to close the gap. The alarm sounded like a deep gong.

Feeling a need in him he hadn't before, he willed himself to close the distance, turned, and popped next to the jeep. Gun fire had exploded by the gatehouse. Harry focused on the one before him. It was Fern. She screeched at him, skidding to a halt at his sudden appearance.

"Get in the jeep!" Muldoon called out as he rose his gun.

There was a scream of pain. Harry looked behind him to see that Rivers arm had been grabbed and he was being dragged away as Muldoon shot one of the raptors. At such close range, the snarling head exploded in a spray of blood. Watching Rivers being dragged off, Harry made a hasty decision. Jamming his wand out, a blasting hex raced towards Fern. She jumped out of the way. Harry used the distraction to run around the side of the jeep. Not wanting to hurt Rivers, who was screaming and trying to reach for a knife, Harry jabbed his wand a few more times. Red stunners leapt out. The third raptor that had come from that direction was already running towards the jungle.

The raptor chewing on River's arm, probably never having seen something like that before, didn't dodge. Two stunners hit it, while the other went wide. He could see its eyes roll back and it collapsed to the ground. Rivers cried out as he was dropped, the raptors mouth looking to close more as it fell.

Harry turned to make sure Fern wasn't going to attack him. She had run to the edge of the jungle, regarding them. Muldoon raised his gun, and she took off into the undergrowth. "God damn it! I told Hammond they needed to be put down. Don't lower your wand," Muldoon demanded, looking around, his rifle ready to fire.

Harry looked around. The three at the gatehouse were running towards them. "Any of you hurt?"

Rivers had gotten himself free. Roberts ran over to him.

"No, but the damned thing got away," Fricks said, his gun up and covering Roberts and Rivers. Roberts helped Rivers up. The man grimaced as he tried to hold his arm up.

Harry moved over. "Let me see."

His stomach roiled as they sat Rivers in the passenger seat. His arm was profusely bleeding. There were a half dozen puncture marks and ripped skin. "Let's get back to the Center," Muldoon ordered. "Take care of his arm as we go."

Harry climbed into the second jeep this time. Rivers looked rather pale. Harry ran a quick scan, seeing there was a lot of damage. Harry had been taught the basics of field medicine magic by Sirius in the last few weeks. He could run two scans and three healing spells. Seeing that no major arteries had been cut open, he pointed his wand at of the deeper gashes. "Suo Vulnus," he started to sing. It wasn't as powerful as the one Sirius had used on himself, but it worked. Harry hadn't been able to master that one yet. Rivers was wincing at the way the jeep bounced. He winced even more as the torn tissue started to mend itself back together. Harry kept at it for a few minutes until all the marks were red, puckered scars on his arm.

Harry sat back in his seat. That spell took a bit to maintain it that long.

Rivers was looking at his arm. His eyes were wide. His face still looked white.

"That's the best I can do at the moment," Harry told him.

"Holy shit, kid," Fricks said from the front seat. Roberts was driving. "I've never seen anything like that."

"It had to be done. How are we going to take care of the raptors?" Harry asked.

"Kill them," Rivers said, his voice sounding weak. Harry couldn't replace the blood loss, so Rivers probably wasn't going to be doing much for a bit.

"I'm sure Muldoon has a plan," Fricks said.

Harry nodded, looking over his shoulder. The light rain that had been falling had turned into a downpour in the last few minutes. When he didn't see the headlights he expected, he realized that Muldoon's jeep wasn't behind them.

"Where are they?" Harry asked.

"They went to check on the backup control centre and then the breaker sheds. He needs to know where they are and get the tracking system back up and working," Roberts told him.

"Bloody hell," Harry said, upset for being left behind. But if he hadn't, Harry wasn't sure Rivers would be looking as well.

"We have four at the Dilo Bunker," he heard a voice come over the radio. "Leaving them here with a dart gun and rifle and telling them to stay put."

"Roger that." Harry recognized Benning's voice. The other must have been Turgeon. That bunker was near the geothermal plant and the backup control room. Once he could, Harry was going to go and join Muldoon. He had finally been able to apparate, and he was going to do it again if he needed too.

Lost on the island...

"You told me to take a right," Richard yelled at Dennis.

They should have gotten to the northern helicopter pad already. They had been driving around for forty minutes and had reached dead ends at paddock gates twice. Now it was raining so heavily he was having a hard time to see out of his windows, even with the windshield wipers going full tilt. That was not to mention the lightning all about.

"If we were on the main road, then that should have gotten us there," Dennis said, looking nervous.

A gust of wind from the storm buffeted the car and he had to fight to keep on the road as they went over a ridge.

"Damn it," Dennis said, looking out the window.

"What?"

"We're on the High Ridge Road. The helicopter pad is the other way," he said.

"Fuck you, Dennis," Richard yelled at the man.

There was another gust of wind. Richard swerved to maintain control, then had to swerve again as a tree suddenly crashed down onto the road. The jeep careened out of control, skidding on the wet and muddy road. Richard tried hard to turn the wheel, trying to swing the front around the other way.

Dennis cried out as he put a hand on the dashboard to steady himself.

The jeep skidded to the edge of the road, then plunged down the slope. Both men screamed as the jeep went airborne, crashed into the ground, smashed through some bushes, ferns and vines and eventually came to a jarring halt amid the sound of crunching metal and shattering glass.

It was a moment before Richard sat back in his seat. As dazed as he was, his leg was in unbearable pain. Dennis groaned next to him. The heavy rain was beating against the car. "What hit us?" the fat man next to him asked,

Richard groaned in pain when he moved. "I think my leg is broken."

Dennis sat up, blood trickling down his face. "Where are we?"

Richard was starting to really feel the pain. Looking down, he could see blood on his leg and what he was sure was bone sticking out of it. The shock of seeing it had him start to breathe heavier.

Dennis was moving in the seat next to him. "Where are we? No. No. No," Dennis said. He started to scramble.

"Dennis, I need help," Richard got out through a sudden flash of pain as the jeep rocked with Dennis' weight shifting around.

"We need to go. Now," Dennis said, panic clear in his voice.

"I can't move," Richard told him.

"Now. We have to go now," Dennis said, grabbing the bag with the disks and whatever else Dennis had thrown in it. The man next to him forced the door open.

"Dennis, I can't move. My leg is broken," Richard said.

"We have to go," Dennis repeated, getting out of the jeep.

"Dennis," Richard said a little weakly.

Dennis stumbled out of the car into the still raging thunderstorm. "We have to go," the fat man repeated.

Richard turned to see Dennis stumble away. There was a flash of light and thunder came almost immediately.

"Dennis." He said louder.

"Dennis!" He said louder still.

"Dennis!" He managed to yell.

A roar could be heard over the rain on the car. Richard's eyes widened, fear cutting through the pain of his leg.

He looked up, realizing they were a few yards away from a fence that was twenty-five feet high. The '10000 Volt' warning sign could just barely be made out through the rain.

"Dennis!" he cried out in fear this time.

He looked in the direction that the man had gone, along a half-broken car trail that was probably made to build the fence. There was no sign of him.

He sat there, shivers starting to take over his body as he tried to understand how his partner could just abandon him like that. The rain was starting to let up when he noticed movement on the other side of the fence. He stilled, not making a sound and trying to force his body to still. He didn't understand that he was going into shock, only the fear of seeing a two-story tall shape moving along the edge of the fence.

The monster was tall, long and sleek. It moved quietly. There were small tremors as it slowly put its giant foot down. His eyes were huge to see the Tyrannosaurus Rex, in all her glory, moving along the inside of the fence, just keeping clear of the moat.

In the now light rain, he heard it snort.

It was only the answering snort that caused him to turn his head slowly. The glass of the driver side was mostly broken, explaining why he was so wet. The shaking that had taken over his body became uncontrollable as he was looking at a miniature copy of the dinosaur that was looking at him from the other side of the fence. Only, this one was about fifteen feet away.

Well, miniature might not be accurate.

This one stood about nine feet tall. It had its head cocked and was sniffing.

He didn't dare to breathe.

The smaller monster took a tentative step toward the jeep.

He put his hands up to shield his face. "Go away," he said rather weakly.

The thing cocked its head in the other direction.

"Go away," he said again, trying to move, then cried in pain as his broken leg shifted.

This seemed to get the attention of both monsters. He tried to shift again, fighting through the pain. It was when he cried out again that the smaller monster threw its head forward and roared at the car. It was like the volume of a lion's roar.

He screamed as he put his hand before his face. The smaller monster charged the car. He cried out in pain as his leg was jolted. Little did he know that he wouldn't be in pain much longer…

Visitor Center…

Dr Rose came out of the room. "I don't know what you did, but Rivers should have a full recovery in a week or two," she said to them.

Harry let out a breath. "Thank Merlin. I have to get to the Control Room."

"Not without me," Roberts said. "Fricks, you stay here."

"Sure," Fricks said.

When they walked outside, it was raining buckets as it came down sideways in the wind of the storm. They ran to the Visitor Center. Inside it was quiet.

"Where is everyone," Roberts asked.

"I don't know," Harry said.

When he got to the door, he noticed the lights were on on the security lock. "The security system is back up," Harry told him.

"Let's go find out what is happening. I want to get out and help Muldoon," Roberts told him. Harry nodded.

As they went down the hall, Harry could hear people in the small conference room. Peaking in, he could see Sirius, Mrs Murphy and Mr Hammond.

"…need to go out there and help," Sirius was saying.

"Muldoon is handling things," Mr Hammond said.

"What about Harry?" Sirius protested.

"He came back about twenty minutes ago," Mr Hammond told him.

"Dad, how many dinosaurs have escaped?" Mrs Murphy asked.

"Sirius, I'm right here. What's going on?" Harry asked, pushing the door open.

Sirius took a look at him and marched over to him. "Where are you hurt? Why aren't you with Dr Rose?"

Harry looked confused until he realized he still had blood on him from Rivers. Sirius started to pat him down before pulling his wand.

"Sirius, I'm fine. This is from Rivers. The raptors attacked us. I need to get back out to Muldoon," he told his godfather.

"Like hell you are. We are all getting off this island as soon as we can," Mrs Murphy demanded.

"Lynne, just take a deep breath," Mr Hammond soothed.

"God damn it, dad! It's bad enough you lied to me, now we have escaped dinosaurs," she yelled at Mr Hammond.

Sirius just looked at him for a moment before flicking his wand. The blood was siphoned off and he was clean after a few. "Where is Muldoon now?"

"He was heading towards the geothermal plant," Harry told him.

Sirius nodded. "Harry and I will be back," Sirius announced, being more serious than usual.

"You can't just leave!" Mrs Murphy exclaimed.

Mr Hammond put a hand on Lynne's arm. "They know what they are doing, Lynne. Go get a long-range radio from the Control Room. I'm also sure Alexis will want to see you are alright before you go."

Harry put a hand on the back of his neck, realizing how he had just run out. "Oh, yeah. Is she mad?"

"More worried than anything," Mr Hammond said.

"Dad, we aren't done. I need to talk to you about that report once this is all done," Mrs Murphy stated.

Mr Hammond sighed. "I'll get Benjamin and his team out here as soon as possible. For now, we need to get all the dinosaurs back in their cages."

Harry turned, having no time for this discussion.

"How'd it go?" Sirius asked in a casual tone as they walked out of the conference room. Roberts fell into step behind them.

"You know. The usual. Just some local wildlife that tried to drag Rivers into the jungle. Muldoon blasted one of their heads apart," Harry told him.

"Ah, so just another day in the office," Sirius commented.

"Pretty much," Harry said in a strained voice.

Using his card, he opened the door to the Control Room. Lex was still sitting at Nedry's desk, her finger gliding over the screen. Mr Arnold was in the desk next to her with the other controllers at their computers.

"How are we doing with fence control?" Mr Arnold asked.

"We have all the fences back up except the Tyrannosaur Paddock. We are trying to get a visual, but camera two-ten to two-eighteen are out and the sensors are picking up a break in the fence in that area," Marcy said from across the room.

"Lex, any luck on the radio towers?" Mr Arnold asked.

"I don't get this code," she told him. "What are all these callouts?"

Harry came up to her. "Here I thought you a genius," he teased.

Lex whipped around. "Harry!" Jumping out of the seat, she threw herself into his arms. Harry had never been hugged so tightly before. He held her back just as tight. "I'm okay," he said when she let out a little sob.

"I was so worried. You just ran," she whispered.

"I'm sorry. We had to get there. What's going on?" he asked, looking towards Mr Arnold.

"We've been able to get control back of most of the major systems, mostly thanks to Lex. We are verifying where all the dinosaurs are now," Mr Arnold replied.

"How many escaped?"

"So far we can confirm the four raptors, and that's it," Mr Arnold said. "Be thankful for small miracles."

Lex finally let him go. Tears were on her cheeks. "We watched the raptors attacking you. Gary is pretty sure you killed one and injured another. You weren't hurt?"

"I'm fine," he told her. "Where is Muldoon now? Sirius and I need to get to him, and we need to find those raptors."

"You aren't going back out there, kid," Mr Arnold said. "Those things are killers, and you were lucky to get away."

"Harry and I know better how to handle these things than most. Where is Robert?" Sirius asked.

Lex gave him a look like she didn't want him to go but kept quiet. Looking at her, he said, "Lex, can you help Mr Arnold find out where the raptors are?"

She wiped at the tears on her cheeks. "Do you have to go?"

"Yeah," Harry told her.

After a moment, she nodded her head. "Mr Arnold, can you help me understand what all these things are that are called out here?"

Harry gave her a kiss on her forehead, then a peck on her lips before she sat back down, Mr Arnold coming over.

"Where is Muldoon," Harry asked the room.

"I think his jeep is at the geothermal plant. In this rain, that will take you twenty minutes to get there," Marcy told him.

Harry figured that keeping their magic secret was far less important than saving lives and taking care of the dinosaurs. "Sirius and I have other ways of getting around."

Sirius raised an eyebrow. "We do?"

"Yeah. We can just pop over there," Harry reminded him.

"Ah, so that was what I thought I saw. We'll be back in a little bit then," Sirius commented.

"Take a radio," Mr Arnold told them, putting a hand on the desk to see what Lex was looking at. "Ah, those are servo motors to work the satellite dishes here in the compound. We only use them to receive signals."

Lex wiped at the tears on her face again. Harry kissed the top of her head, and she grabbed the hand on her shoulder for a moment, squeezing it as hard as she could. "I'll be back."

"You better," she said softly before letting his hand go. "What part of this program handles the radio towers then?"

"Come on, pup," Sirius said softly. "You can snog her later."

"Dirty old mutt," Harry said, squeezing her shoulder before turning away.

They left the room and found an empty office across the way. "You sure about this?" Sirius asked.

"Sirius, I don't want to leave this island. If it closes, where are we going to go?" Harry put to him.

Sirius nodded. "Right. Let's get this done then. Can you do this on your own?"

"Yeah. I think I can."

Two cracks came out of the room and a second later Harry and Sirius were standing in the dirt carpark outside a cement bunker with a tower. It was built into the side of a hill, with the volcano cone covered in clouds. The rain had slowed to a drizzle. Two Jurassic Park jeeps were parked on the gravel.

Someone in the guard tower called down, "Where did you two come from?"

"Hey, Yvonne. It's a magic trick," Sirius called up with a cheeky grin.

Yvonne rolled her eyes. "I'll unlock the door. Get inside," she told him.

"Where is Muldoon?" Harry called up.

"No clue. He hasn't shown up yet and the last radio contact we had was at the last bunker about a mile that way about twenty minutes ago," she said, pointing down the road.

Harry frowned. Muldoon should have been here by now.

"Right. We have a radio. I'm going to check it out. Be careful, there are still three or four raptors around," Harry yelled back.

Sirius looked at him a little concerned. "I don't like the sound of this."

"I don't either. I know where that bunker is. I can guide you there if you want?" Harry offered.

"You better. I have no clue where I'm going," Sirius told him.

"That's different from any other time…?"

Sirius cuffed him off the top of his head. "Smarmy git."

Harry gave him a cheeky smile before taking Sirius' arm. "Ready?"

"Lead the way," Sirius told him.

Harry turned and guided Sirius to the spot. A crack announced the splitting of the fabric of the world between here and the next place they were going.

They came out about thirty feet from a concrete block house. Harry quickly looked around to see the number six Jurassic Park jeep. They both rose their wands, Harry reaching over his back to grab the hilt of the Sword of Gryffindor.

"It's quiet," Sirius said.

Harry nodded. Only the falling of the rain could be heard around them.

He twirled his wand, casting a silent 'Homenum Revelio', followed by a 'Animanum Revelio'. The old books on creature handling had some good stuff in them. Harry could only think Hagrid hadn't covered some of it because he couldn't use a wand.

Sirius cocked an eye at him. Harry nodded across the road. "There's two people about a hundred feet that way, just at the edge of my spell."

"And the raptors?"

"I only picked up small animals, mostly in the trees. Probably birds," Harry replied.

Sirius nodded. "Let's go find Muldoon."

Harry cast the same alarm spell on the jeep as he had earlier. "Cast silencing and scent masking charms," Harry told his godfather before walking off into the jungle.

They moved in a half crouch, keeping an eye out. It was dense enough here that within twenty feet you could hardly see anything. Harry cast his revealing spells again to find that someone had moved further in. Someone else was in a tree about seventy feet in front of them.

Harry and Sirius drew their swords when they herd the unmistakable sound of a raptor calling out. Harry was pretty sure it came from in front of them, but it was beyond his spell still. "I don't like this," Sirius whispered.

About a hundred and fifty feet in the undergrowth became less dense. They could see a good fifty feet or more in most directions.

When they got to the tree with someone in it, he could see Turgeon with a rifle. He was focused on something before him. This time when Harry cast the revealing spells, he could sense two raptors off to their right.

Harry, not wanting to surprise the guy, knocked on the base of the tree. Turgeon swung around, his rifle coming to bear on him. Harry quickly waved at him. Turgeon relaxed before indicating in the direction he had been looking. Harry gave a thumbs up and then pointed to their right and mimed a dinosaur.

Turgeon nodded and turned his attention in that direction. Harry cast the spell again. The raptors hadn't moved, but another call came up from before them. Harry could tell Muldoon was perhaps seventy-five feet away in a thick area of the undergrowth. That was the same direction as the one that called.

"Sirius, move towards Muldoon. He's just that way. I'm going to move towards the two raptors over there," he whispered.

"Be careful," Sirius whispered back, putting a hand on his shoulder before moving off. Harry moved towards the two. He wasn't sure they weren't waiting in ambush.

Harry cast the spell again and noticed they had moved. Looking through the darkening jungle as another storm was starting to come through, he caught movement. The two raptors were being stealthy and silent, intent on where Muldoon was as another call came. Harry could hear the change in tone.

Harry jabbing his wand. A small white, pencil thin spell leapt out. It grazed the lead raptor's neck as it suddenly jerked at the spell. "Bloody hell," he muttered.

Seeing him, the raptor screeched, exposing its teeth and looking menacing. Harry had time to jab his wand two more times before it suddenly took off at him. The other ran off into the bush. A gun went off as Harry put up a scutum shield as the raptor jumped at him.

He was able to throw the raptor to the side. His sword glinted in a lightning flash as he brought it down. The raptor rolled on the ground, his sword just missing on the first arc as the raptor shuffled to get up. Bringing his sword up on the back swing, he connected with the raptor's thigh, bringing a painful screech from the thing.

Another gun shot from behind him ripped through the thing's skull. The head had been less than five feet from him. Harry jumped back as the carcass slumped to the ground. "Bloody hell, Turgeon! That was close. Oh shite," Harry yelled out.

From his peripheral vision, he caught another raptor charging through the undergrowth at him. He had time to register that one of its arms had been injured. Turgeon took another shot but missed. Harry swiped his wand, sending a scythe sized white cutter at the running raptor. Not knowing what it was, the raptor ran right into it. Harry winced as it cut through its torso and kept going, cutting most of its tail clean down the centre in a horizontal cut. The top and bottom of the raptor separated and flopped to the ground, skidding close to his feet.

There was another gun shot.

Harry turned towards the bush. Muldoon was limping as he reloaded his gun. Blood was trickling out a wound in his side. He caught sight of Sirius backing up as well. Fern closed in at full speed, her mouth open for attack and arms ready to swipe, only to have her head snap back as she was blocked by a scutum shield.

"Merlin be damned minidragon!" Sirius bellowed as his sword slashed out, jabbing into Fern's neck. She cried out as Sirius pulled it out. Muldoon shouted. "Out of the way!"

Sirius stepped to the side as Fern stumbled a bit, then turned. Muldoon fired, the heavy rifle jerking him a bit. A spray of blood came out from the raptors side. She cried out, falling onto her side and kicking out in what Harry was sure was her death throws.

Sirius swiped his wand. The cutting hex separated her head from the rest of her body. Once that was done, he slumped a little, his sword hand going to his side. He spit at the dead raptor. "Bloody fucking minidragons. You alright?" he asked towards Muldoon, who was now leaning against his rifle.

"Are there more?" Muldoon asked, looking around.

"Turgeon got one. I got another," Harry told them.

"We got hit hard when that one from the side came in. She used that to attack us. Both of them are dead," Sirius told them.

Muldoon slumped, leaning even heavier on his gun. "Are you hurt, lad?"

"No."

"Are they all gone?" Turgeon called down to them.

"Clear. Get back to the jeep," Muldoon ordered.

"How bad are you hurt?" Harry asked, moving over to them. Sirius pulled his hand away. "It's not too deep. Let me heal this. Take a look at Muldoon."

Muldoon tried to wave him off. "I was mauled worse by a lion when I was younger."

Harry ignored him, moving to Muldoon's side. He could see the three rips in is shirt, which was soaked with blood. Harry ran some diagnostics. They were deep, but only flesh wounds along the ribs. "Suo Vulnus," he incanted a half dozen times. Muldoon took in a few sharp breaths, not letting the pain show of his flesh being mended.

When Harry was done, Muldoon just about dropped to his knees. "That feels nice," he joked.

Harry laughed. "I doubt that."

"What's the status?" Muldoon demanded.

"Lex, Mr Arnold and the others have gotten all the fences backup and they say they can confirm the raptors escaped but can't find any other. The radio towers are still down," Harry told him.

"Well, that is encouraging. Help me back to the jeep and we can figure out what else is going on when we get back to the Center," Muldoon said.

As they walked back to the car, the new storm opened up on them.

Control Center…

"We got it!" Gary called out. "Radio towers are active. I can get into the controls. It will take about ten minutes to get everything back up."

"Get it done. Marcy, get hold of Benning. Let him know we will have all our control systems back up and we will need to get the Handlers and Maintenance crews out to just check over everything," Mr Arnold said. "Thank God. You've done really good, Lex."

She gave a soft smile, before a shuttering breath. "Is Harry on his way back?"

Mr Arnold chuckled. "He's coming back. Sounds like they found the raptors."

She looked panicked for a moment. "Is he okay? What about everyone else."

"They will be going to the clinic, if you want to go meet them there. We can finish up with this. I can't thank you enough. You probably saved Jurassic Park and a lot of people," he said.

The door opened behind them. She turned to see her grandpa and mom. "Mom," she said, getting up and moving over to them.

Her mom stretched out her arms. Lex rushed to wrap her arms around her. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah. It sounds like Harry is too," Lex replied.

"What's going on?" her grandpa asked, touching her arm lightly before walking off into the Control Center.

"John, you better give your granddaughter a raise. I think she's saved us all," Mr Arnold said.

She blushed a little as the man went on to tell her grandpa everything they had done.

"You did all that?" her mother asked.

Lex smiled. "Mr Arnold and the others did most of it once I could get them in. Whoever designed that system wasn't really worried about security if you had access to the mainframe. I was able to get in pretty easily," she told her mom.

Her mom huffed. "And all this time I just thought you were wasting your time."

Lex's smile faltered a little. "You never said anything about it."

"Well, you were getting top marks, one of the best swimmers in the region and you had friends. I just thought you would grow out of your computers. I'm glad you didn't," she told Lex.

"We have a problem," Gary called out.

Mr Arnold moved his chair to look around his computer. Everyone else looked at him. "Don't tell me the radio towers are damaged?"

"Ah, I have unit one-eight-three moving along the Valley Road," Garry said.

"What is unit one-eight-three?" her mother asked.

"The tag says 'Rexy'. It's the smaller tyrannosaur. She's escaped," Gary told them. "She's moving this way."

"Call Muldoon. Now," her grandfather ordered.

"What about the big one," Mr Arnold asked.

"Still in the paddock," Gary replied after a moment.

"Thank god," Mr Arnold said. "John, Muldoon is hurt. We'll have to send out a different team."
