Alice had remained in her room for most of the night. She hadnt gone down for dinner, nor had she answered the door when Uraraka had come to knock. No one heard from her until they convinced Tokoyami to go check on her. The class had grown fond of her and to have the positive bubbly girl hiding away in her room had only caused worry to fill the main room.
"She won't answer me." Uraraka said with a sigh. "Please? Can you go check on her. She might talk to you."
Tokoyami frowned and shook his head. "What makes you think she'll talk to me?"
"Because she likes you!" Uraraka sighed and puffed her cheeks. "Im worried about her. She looked absolutely defeated and wont answer her door or my texts."
Tokoyami groaned softly and stood, "Fine. Okay? You put her food in the fridge, right? Ill take it up to her." He had been avoiding the girl for a bit after Kirishima had called him out. It had hurt to hear she looked so depressed, but he wasnt sure what he could do to help. The male went and grabbed her food, heading up to her room.
Alice had made a nest in the blankets and pillows on her bed. She hadnt answered anyone after Bakugo left. "Hey? Alice?" Tokoyami knocked at her door. "You awake?"
"Everyone's worried. Are you awake?" Dark Shadow mimicked Tokoyami and appeared over his shoulder. "Cheshire! Are YOU awake?" The bird went to look under the door, to which the cat finally appeared. He stared up at Tokoyami with a blank expression, his white gaze unblinking. "Hello little cat!" The Shadow scooped Chess up and scratched his stomach lazily.
"Is Alice awake?" Tokoyami frowned and looked at the little shadow cat, his red gaze worried. Chess meowed in response and motioned to the door.
"The door's unlocked." Alice's tired voice came from within and Tokoyami stepped inside. The room smelled of lavender and he instantly felt his body relax. He loved the smell and it only suited the girl.
"You doing okay? Everyone is worried. I brought you food." Tokoyami set her food on her desk and clicked on the lamp light. Alice was laying on her side, curled up in her blankets and pillows. He frowned and grabbed her chair, turning it around so he could sit in it and talk to her.
"Yeah. Im mentally drained. I was asleep when Uraraka came by earlier." She sat up slowly and propped herself against the pillows. Tokoyami was glad the girl's room was fairly dark. She was so pretty. Her cheeks were a bit red from sniffling, but even depressed she had some sort of hold on him. "The License test didnt go well... Well it did at first, but I failed the last part. Bad." She pulled her knees to her chest, resting her chin atop them.
"Yeah? Tell me what happened." The boy crossed his arms and rested his head on them, watching her as she thought over what happened earlier that day.
"The first two tests were super easy. It was a test on you guys and your quirks, then I had to respond to one of his agency heroes. That was the easy part. The last part was I had to hide from Gang Orca in Ground Beta." Alice sighed softly. "Everything was going good, but I ended up falling and having a panic attack... Chess... Thought he was helping by putting pressure on my chest, but... I dont know what happened- he must have been panicking too and ended up breaking five of my ribs."
Tokoyami watched her with a surprised expression. He sat up and frowned. Her cat had crushed her ribs? What? He watched the cat jump up onto the bed. Alice didnt even hesitate to grab him and cuddle him close to her. "That doesnt mean you failed." Tokoyami began, straightening as to not let the girl know he faulted.
"Kinda does. I need to pass all three to be able to get my license. This was my way of catching up. Im screwed now. Ill have to take the remedial classes when they come up next- which will put me behind even more. I cant use my quirk on the field- so I can only do basic patrols." Alice felt her throat tighten again and she sank down into her blankets again.
"Hey... Dont think of it like that." Tokoyami stood and moved around the chair so he could sit on the edge of her bed. He wanted to help, but didnt know how. Hell, he wasnt even sure if she was okay with him being this close. "Im sure WildSpire can work something out."
Alice looked up at him and nodded slowly. "I can only hope. Im just so worried about falling behind."
Tokoyami leaned back on his hands a bit, "Yeah. I wouldnt worry too much. You are incredibly smart and talented. Im sure its just a mild set back. You got this." He let out a soft sigh, "Stay positive, okay? And Text Uraraka back before she dies. Im sure she's in her room right now with her face plastered to the wall." He chuckled, ridging up slightly as the girl sat up and plopped her head against his shoulder. She was so warm and his face turned an even darker shade of red.
"Thanks Tokoyami." She smiled faintly, rubbing her cheek against his shoulder.
"Its n-not a problem." he chuckled. "But you can call me Fumikage. I think we are friends at this point."
Alice smiled up at the male, she felt so much better after someone else reassured her. She was easy to let down, but luckily easier to build up. "Okay. Fumikage. Thank you. Really. It means a lot to me that you reached out. Ill also text Uraraka." She had a couple people to apologize to. Including a hotheaded blonde.
Fumikage left her to her own devices and headed downstairs. Alice shot Uraraka and Bakugo a text. She felt bad for snapping at both of them. Uraraka came over to talk to her in person, while Bakugo shot her a thumbs up instead.
The next morning she was pulled from her classes to meet up with WildSpire and Gang Orca again. She felt so much better after a good nights sleep and some relaxation, but her chest still ached from the shot to her pride. "Good morning. Ms. Rise." Gang Orca bowed slightly. "I hope you are feeling better today."
"Mentally and physically. Yeah. I am." She straightened. Alice had done a lot of thinking with Uraraka. The girl had hyped her friend up quite a bit.
"Good because we have-"
"-some GREAT news!" WildSpire interrupted the male and put her hands on her hips.
Gang Orca frowned and shook his head. "Yes, Yes. We do have some good news, but I do need to explain the situation first. " He motioned for the girl to sit. "So after yesterday's events. I talked it over with some of the heroes on the provisional license counsel. You passed the first two tests with flying colors, but due to an unfortunate oversight. We are going to set you up with some heroes for shadowing. You will have your license, but be on a probational period until those heroes deem you proficient enough to finalize your license. Do you understand?"
Alice gasped and scrambled to her feet, she had barely even sat down. "Wait, really? You're gonna give me another chance?" She 'stared at Gang Orca and tried to keep her excitement contained. "
Really?"
The male's gaze softened and he nodded, "It was in poor taste for me to assign that test to you knowing your background. There are other ways I could have done that and I didnt. I accept that. There are two heroes who are gonna be assigned to your probation. One of them will be with Fat Gum and his agency. The other will be with the number one Hero himself- Endeavor. I hope you use this opportunity to its fullest."
Alice's gaze brightened, but filled with tears. She rushed forward and wrapped her arms around the male's waist and buried her face into his chest. She knew that she'd thrown a lot of social rules out the window, but she was so damn happy. Gang Orca had really come through for her. "Thank you so much, I wont let you down."
Gang Orca's gaze softened and he gently put his hand a top the girl's head. He felt guilty, even more so after WildSpire had talked to him. Alice was trying desperately to make herself get over what had happened, he had hoped he didnt open up old wounds for her. "Im sure you will do great at whatever you end up doing." The male said in response.
"Which reminds me, that will start next week on Monday because the Hero class will be going back to work at their respected agencies again. Fat Gum is excited for you to join him. Today will be an easy day, youll be practicing your quirks with class 1-A." WildSpire interjected. "I wanted to wait until you got your license as a big reveal, but ugh- it'll be good for them to see what you can do." She crossed her arms and puffed her cheeks. She had wanted to do a dramatic reveal, but things had changed.
"I kept telling you that from the beginning." Alice grumbled, but cracked a smile. It was hard to be upset with such good news.
They finished up with a few formalities and let Alice go back to class. As she walked out, she came face to face with Izuku- who was holding a rag to his bleeding head. "Hey A-Alice." He said with a shaky laugh. Uraraka was with him, a look of concern on her face.
"Bakugo got pissed off and threw a book at Deku." She said with a frown. "I dont understand why you let him do this stuff to you."
Deku shrugged, "He's not a bad guy, just angry. Kaachan has been such a good friend to me since we were younger." He laughed awkwardly, trying to stay positive. Alice frowned and reached up gently to pull the rag back away from the boy's head to get a look at the wound.
"Let me see. We might be able to treat it here instead of going to Recovery Girl." She motioned him to sit down on the bench outside the office and slipped back inside to grab the first aid kit from Principal Nezu. Alice returned a few moments later and got to work dabbing a bit of cleaner in the boy's hair. "It doesnt look too bad. You need to learn to defend against him, or at least learn to catch the damned book." Alice puffed her cheeks and gave Deku a look. The male laughed awkwardly and nodded.
"I know. I just... I dont know." He held still while the girl finished up. She put her hands on her hips, her brows furrowed in annoyance. "Truthfully, I know he doesnt do it maliciously. He has his reasons, even if they might not make sense to everyone else."
Alice's gaze softened and she closed the first aid kit, looking at the guy with an understanding expression. "I get it, just learn to catch a book from now on, okay?"
Deku smiled faintly, "Okay. Okay. I get it. Ill try." He reached up to touch his head where the book had hit. "How did you learn first aid anyway? I mean, all Heroes need to know it- but arent you gonna be a Field Support Hero?"
"Yeah. I learned it back home before I moved here. Its a requirement for all Hero courses to have a First aid class once a year to refresh their knowledge and re-certify their certification." Alice slipped back into the office and handed the first aid kit back to Nezu, who thanked her.
"You were in a Hero course?" Uraraka blinked in surprise. That was one thing she didnt know about the other girl. "I thought you had Field support back at your old school."
"We did." Alice said simply, she glanced down and rubbed the back of her head. "I found I wasnt suited to be a hero, so when I switched. WildSpire gave me the opportunity to go for field support." She tried to smile, there was the whole other reason behind her choice, but she couldnt tell them that. It was already hard to talk about after yesterdays events.
Deku frowned and the group headed down the hallway towards the stairs. Alice would head to her support classes and they would go to their hero classes. It felt weird leaving the girl. Deku had thought that she fit in better with them, but they had already put her in the Support classes.
