Jack stod near the doorway of the hospital room. Lisa walked up to June's bedside,

"You okay?" June was sitting up she had her arm in a cast.

"I'll be fine but I won't be able to ride in the upcoming race."

"Don't you worry about that," said Lisa.

"You need to fire me," June stated.

"What?"

"You can't afford to pay a jockey who can't ride."

"But-"

"But nothing I'll be fine my husband has a solid job and once I'm better I'll find another job."

"June..."

"If you won't fire me then I quit." Lisa puresed her lips.

"Fine," she said finally.

"Good," June smiled slightly "Now who is that lurking in the doorway?"

"That's Jack."

"I don't believe we've met," said June.

"It's nice to meet you," said Jack. June shook his hand with her good arm. June's husband arrived at the hospital and Lisa and Jack left. They went back to Farefield to check on the horse. Scott was still there when they arrived.

"The horse is going to be okay," he said.

"That's a relief," Lisa replied. Gently playing her hand on the horses neck he neighed softly.

"He will have to rest for at least a month to recover but he should make a full recovery with the right treatment." Scott spoke.

"So he won't be able to participate in the upcoming race?" Not that she had anyone to ride him in tbe upcoming race.

"When is it?" Scott asked.

"Two weeks," Lisa winced as she said it already knowing the answer.

"I'm afraid not." Scott checked his watch. "I better be going I have another appointment."

"Thanks for coming by," Lisa said. Once Scott left she was silent running her fingers through the horses main. Finally she spoke,

"I won't be able to afford to pay Marion any longer tell her to stop working with Star I'll come pick her up after dinner." Lisa started to walk away.

"Lisa wait," Jack called after her. She slowed slightly but kept walking. Jack hurried to catch up with her.

"Isn't there something else you can do?"

"No there isn't I'll have to sell Star, sell Fairfield and lay off the last stable hand," her voice caught. Jack took a step closer pulling her into his embrace. Lisa squeezed her eyes shut trying to not cry. Lisa rested her head on his chest she felt safe in his arms. She sniffed wiping her eyes as she took a step away from him.
