Kate was standing at the end of the aisle on her phone while Gibbs was checking the different stacks of lumber for the exact type he wanted, he kept glancing over, she was having a serious conversation with someone. Grabbing what he needed he put it on the cart with the other items he had picked out before joining her as she hung up and looked at the phone in her hand, "He's coming tonight, he sent Rachel his flight information."
"I'll drop you off at Rachel's." Gibbs gave her a gentle shove towards the check out lanes, he may have been an only child but he understood family and knew of all the siblings Rachel, Danny and Kate were the closest.
Kate brought her feet up mimicking her sister's position on the couch, they had just picked up their brother from the airport and brought him to Kate's old place, "It took me a while but I learned that every decision, every choice leads to new chances at happiness." he glanced at Kate telling Rachel "I mean look at Katie and yourself."
"We always have been the 'odd men out' as it were." Rachel couldn't help but smirk she Kate and Danny were the only auburn or as their father called them red headed Todd children, the others were brunette like him and their mother.
"Being a lawyer just wasn't doing it for me, it never did, I enjoyed being in the kitchen with Mom and helping with the food." Danny admitted, their parents were old fashioned and Danny was often booted out of the kitchen and sent to help his father, because women cooked. It was expected of Kate and Rachel to help their mother with the holiday meals while the boys helped their dad with the decorations and setting up any extra tables for the meals.
"So what's your plan?"
"I was looking into cooking school." he'd taken cooking classes, telling his parents he was using it to help him meet women "Look before this night gets any further there's something I need to tell you guys and I get it if you want me gone..." Danny sighed.
Shaking her head Rachel held up his hand stopping his struggle to find the right words "We already know, Mom called me freaking out."
"Me too." Kate admitted. "We don't care Danny, you're our brother we love you for you."
"We don't care who you love, as long as they are good to you." he knew Rachel meant it with her and Kate's pasts. "Although if he turns out to be a dirt bag Katie can sick Gibbs on him." Rachel smirked, Kate gave a nodding shrug knowing if it ever happened Gibbs would take care of it.
"You don't care?" he asked surprised.
"Why would we? It's always been us against them, we don't fit in their little molds, we never have." Rachel reminded her younger brother "You stood by Katie, you stood by me, why wouldn't we stand by you?" Rachel asked.
"Because what you two went through is nothing like what I'm going through." Danny sighed leaning back in the chair, getting up Rachel pulled him out of the chair he was in and over to the couch with them, placing him in between them, one sister on each side.
"It doesn't matter what you're going through is different than us, we are here for you." Rachel promised taking his hand. "For all of it."
"And I so happen to know a group of people who will gladly take you in." Kate smiled.
"I don't think your friends..." Rachel laughed causing Danny to stop and look at her confused.
"These people will not care." chuckling Rachel couldn't wait for her brother to meet Kate's friends.
"Oh, Gibbs said dinner, the both of you, so tomorrow our place." Kate invited them.
"Can I ask one thing?"
"Hmm?" Kate handed him his drink from the table.
"Where's the book shelf?" he pointed at the gap next to the also empty television stand, Kate chuckled, it hadn't been the question she thought he would ask.
"I have more books than Gibbs has space for." Kate answered honestly.
"Nerd." Danny teased trying to lighten the mood.
"Takes one to know one." Kate quipped.
"When will the rest of your things arrive?" Rachel asked gesturing to his simple luggage.
"Saturday."
"Sounds like a party." Kate nodded knowing why Rachel was asking. "My friends will be here to help."
"They don't need to, it's not much." he shook his head.
"They won't care," Rachel chuckled, "they moved me in an afternoon. I hosted game night as a thank you."
"So not taking no as an answer?" Danny asked.
"Not in this case." Kate laughed.
"Okay so move in and game night, when's game night?" he asked slapping his hands on his thighs.
"Fridays, Saturdays the occasional Sunday."
"I don't have much stuff so we can do it Saturday." Danny nodded.
"I'll bring the folding chairs." Kate said fishing her phone out of her purse.
"Katie?"
"Hmm," Kate looked up from her phone "just letting them know the plan for game night." quickly typing her message and pushing send she place the phone on the table. Normally she'd let them know individually but she didn't want to waste time. She would let Gibbs know when she got home and Ducky in the morning at work, they were the only two that were not in the group text.
