Lena had been working on her secret project since Alex and Kelly's wedding day. It had been Esme's idea, she had asked why Lena didn't have a special outfit to wear when she was helping to save everyone from Nxyly. She'd had her hair loose, wearing black jeans and a blouse, an outfit she found far more comfortable than she expected Kara's Supergirl suit to be. Of course, a suit could provide some protection in a fight, so when Esme drew her a couple of suggestions, she started to make some plans of her own.

The Tower alarm went off as the sight-shielded flying craft approached. Alex ran to the balcony, prepared to defend them from whatever was coming. Special goggles created by Brainy let her see what her own eyes could not, the outline of the craft and that it was slowing down, there was no sign of weapons firing up. A dark outline appeared on the goggles as a door opened on one side, Alex raised the goggles and smiled when she recognised the passenger.

"What are you doing here?" she hugged Winn as he stepped from the ship onto the balcony.

They knew he had made his own life in the future, had a wife and daughter to think about now, but it had been so long since he last visited and they'd all missed him. Winn touched a command on his wrist to secure the ship, then sent it to land on the roof where no-one would find it.

"I came back because I knew you'd need my help."

"Please don't tell me there's another world-ending crisis, we've only just..."

Winn laughed, "relax, I'm here for something else."

"Oh, good."

"But it's top secret. Where's Lena?"

When Alex went to check on them (spy on them) a few hours later, she found that they had managed to lock the door so that she couldn't enter. She was sulking when Kara returned, but her sister refused to use her powers to look.

"Aren't you curious?" Alex asked.

"Of course, but Lena will tell us eventually. She's been working on something for months now, and when it's going well she seems so excited but when something goes wrong it really upsets her. That's why I asked Winn to come back and help her."

"You called him back?"

"Well, I asked if he could come and talk to her, then he said he had to check on something, but I guess if he's here then its okay and won't mess up the future."

"How?"

"How did I contact him? Oh he set up an email account that will still be around in the future, creating his own mail server while he was here, and I just put the date of writing the email in the subject line, then email him. Unfortunately the email is only a one-way thing, but he sent a message back via a special capsule they have that travels through these... well they aren't wormholes exactly, not space wormholes, more like temporal wormholes collapsing time... he did start to explain it but then I got called away. Anyway, he can only send one at a time and the capsule has to be recalled so if one does arrive here please open it quickly. There's a shelf where he's programmed them to appear, over there," Kara waved at a shelf high in the wall which Alex had never noticed before.

"Is there a ladder somewhere for the non-flying team members to reach it?" she asked.

"Huh, I didn't think about that. Winn wanted somewhere that it wouldn't get misplaced or moved."

"Well that won't be a problem."

Kara grabbed a bag of popcorn and settled down on to wait. She didn't want Winn to leave without getting a chance to see him in person. Sulking a little at being left out of the new way to communicate with Winn, Alex sat down next to her and grabbed some of the popcorn before Kara could eat it all.

"We've only been using it a little while, I meant to tell you," Kara apologised after a while.

Alex just took some more popcorn, but this time only a small handful.

Winn got Lena to turn once more and practice another spell before he was satisfied that Lena's magic wouldn't affect the technology they'd placed in the suit. He gave her a high-five and she hugged him.

"This is amazing, thank you so much. I don't think I could have finished it without you."

"And it wouldn't look half as awesome without your own symbol on the front," he reminded her, though Nia was responsible for that part.

"There also wouldn't be so many features if you hadn't helped, and it would have taken so much longer to fix the glitches caused by magic."

"You would have gotten there eventually. Now let's go and show it off."

Lena raced ahead, calling out to Kara and the others. Winn walked a little more slowly.

When it was time for him to go, after hearing so much praise for the suit, Alex pulled him to one side.

"What is really going on? Lena said she'd only planned for the suit to have a few tricks, but it sounds like you've kitted it out for a lot more than back-up for Supergirl."

Winn avoided her gaze, "oh you know... bragging rights in the future and all that."

"I don't believe you, so you're going to tell me, or..."

Winn held up his hands, "okay, fine. There's going to be a point where Supergirl is in danger, Lena steps up to help and... doesn't make it."

"What?" Alex looked over at Lena, as if to reassure herself that the other woman was still there.

"And Kara... well she sort of breaks down."

"They are good friends."

"Yeah, that's what the news recorded but... I know Kara. I think there's more to it than that and she needs Lena to survive so I came back to make sure that happens."

Alex looked over to where her sister was admiring Lena's new suit a little too enthusiasticly, her hands touching the sleeves, tracing the lines of the symbol on her shoulder. Had she missed something more developing between Kara and Lena?

She released Winn and let him say his goodbyes, then when he was gone she tried to decide the best way to approach her sister.
