Chapter Six:

Something that was very apparent that young Hailey had inherited from her father, both technical and adopted, was a love for mischief, confusion and chaos, as she grew up. Tempered by kindness inherited from her adoptive mother, a rather scatterbrained personality and a mind that simply didn't function the same way humans could ever truly understand. The latter two resulting in the Child of the Crawling Chaos often coming across as innocently curious and mischievous. While her mental workings and behavior did resemble that of a human from the outside, trying to take a peek inside her mind was a foolish endeavor as all one would find in her head was an incomprehensible mess no human could ever dream of properly understanding, let alone influence with any unnatural (or supernatural) means. While she wasn't truly immune to things like the Imperius Curse or potions that affected the mind, the 'otherish' nature of her mind and being made the effects of such things either null and void at best or unpredictable at worst. Something that was discovered during an incident when Hailey accidentally ate a muffin that had been spiked with Drowsiness Draught at the age of eight.

The Potters were visiting their new family friends, the Lovegoods, when the muffin-incident happened. The two families first met each other during a vacation outside the country of Britain, where Hailey and daughter of the Lovegoods, Luna, got along very well despite the two month age-gap between the two, prompting the two families to stay in contact. Something that seemed to make Luna a bit depressed for a brief moment on occasion was the fact that the gap between her and Hailey's made it so they wouldn't be in the same year when they finally went to Hogwarts, Hailey's birthday being on the 20th of August while Luna's was on the 31st of October. It was during such a bout of depression on Luna's part that prompted the Child of the Crawling Chaos to try and cheer her friend up by bringing and sharing some muffins, not knowing that they were spiked with Drowsiness Drought and were something that Luna occasionally ate to help her fall asleep. Recognizing what muffins her friend had brought out, Luna tried to stop Hailey from eating one but was ultimately too late. However, instead of getting drowsy because of the potion the muffin was spiked with, something interesting happened. Or rather (to be more accurate), the opposite happened. Hailey started acting like a kid on a massive sugar rush (or energy drink), running around and doing quite a few messy but ultimately harmless pranks, for almost half an hour before briefly returning to normal and collapsing on the couch as the inverted effects of the Drowsiness Drought wore off.

While the muffin-incident didn't cause any strain between anyone, it did mark a significant change in Hailey's life. A complete ban on taking any kind of potion was added to her medical record, namely due to the sheer uncertainty of her reactions to the potions of the Wizarding World. Not that Hailey thought it was a big deal as she had the opinion that most potions reeked and would therefore taste even worse.
