First mate's log:

Greg had a surfing accident! He was in that contest an hour ago and he wiped out! We were all on the beach watching him. Mr. Brady ran into the water to save him. We were all worried Greg would drown. Yeah, it would be funny, in a sad, dark way if we left home to come here and that happened. I mean, he's grown up on Brady's Island, and been perfectly safe.
The hotel doctor checked out Greg, who seems to be just woozy and nauseous. He swallowed some salt water, but at least he didn't hit his head with his surfboard or something. He's resting in bed now, but the Skipper is out of bed now.
And poor Alice did bed rest yesterday. Mary Ann told me about how Alice hurt her back during a hula lesson, although she seems OK today. Yeah, I hope there aren't any more accidents.
Oh, and there almost was one the first night here. Greg threw a pillow at Bobby but knocked down a big wall-hanging, which Peter says almost hit Bobby. Yeah, that would've hurt a lot more than a pillow.
Bobby was wearing his tabu tiki necklace at the time. Then the next day, he was goofing around in the hallway, pretending to do the hula. His necklace fell off and he didn't notice. Then I guess Alice found it on the way to the lesson, because she was wearing it when her back went out. She got the statue back to Bobby, who gave it to Greg for good luck during the contest.
Peter thinks the tiki was good luck, because nobody got seriously injured. But the Skipper thinks the tabu is causing all these accidents. I don't know what to think. The statue fell off during Greg's accident and washed out to sea, so I guess we'll never know.

I was too upset to write yesterday. Greg had a surfing accident, just like I feared! At least he's not as injured as much as he was through football, but he could've drowned!
He seems to be all right now, after seeing the hotel doctor and getting some rest. I reluctantly agreed that he could return to the beach with his brothers today, as long as he stays out of the water.
Alice, the girls, and I are going on a picnic. The Skipper and Gilligan are going to show Mary Ann their old neighborhood. And Mike has to work. Hopefully, today will be less dramatic.
Oh, and I should mention I saw some lovely jade and coral jewelry in the hotel gift shop. I've dropped hints to Mike, but he just brushes them off with jokes. Still, I'm hoping he'll buy me something from there before we leave.

While the Skipper and I were showing Mary Ann around Honolulu, I found Bobby's necklace on a completely different beach! Still, it could've washed up on a completely different island, or just sunk into the ocean. The Skipper thought I shouldn't touch it, but I knew Bobby was sad about losing it.
So I wore it for safekeeping, even though the Skipper didn't like standing near me. Mary Ann didn't mind, and even held hands with me.
Then we went to an all-you-can-eat buffet. The Skipper of course ate as much as he could, and he felt fine. Mary Ann just ate her favorites and was fine. But I got food poisoning!
So now I'm the one doing bed rest. I feel better today, but I'm starting to wonder if the statue really is cursed. I had Mary Ann return it to Bobby, who said he didn't want it anymore, so he passed it on to Peter, who's less superstitious. I hope he'll be OK, but I've got to take care of myself right now. (Well, Mary Ann has been very sweet about looking after me, although she's never wanted to be a nurse, like Ginger used to.)
Anyway, I should lie down again, but I'll write more when I feel better.

Poor Gilligan got food poisoning, but he seems to be doing better. As is Greg, and Alice. It has not exactly been a happy vacation so far, but I hope things will get better.
Oh, and last night I had a fright myself. Mike came into the bedroom holding a little shopping bag. I was sure that he'd bought me jewelry, although he was being very coy about it. So I took the bag and eagerly opened it. There was a live spider inside!
Mike caught it in the boys' room and was carrying it outside in the handiest container. I hope there aren't any more creepy-crawlies around. And, yes, it's not as if there aren't bugs on our island, especially in the early days, when we lived in huts. But I never expected to find one in a nice hotel like this. I wonder if I should tell Mr. Howell when we get back.

The Skipper sat me and the Brady boys down this morning and said, "We need to get rid of the tabu."
The boys all nodded. The night before last, Peter woke up to find a giant spider crawling on him! OK, not giant like the one who was living in a cave on our island years ago, but still pretty big. He and his brothers of course reacted loudly, so their dad came in to find out what the fuss was about. Mr. Brady was going to kill the spider, but Bobby didn't want him to squish it. So he caught the spider and carried it out in a paper bag.
I asked, "How will we get rid of it?" I mean, even after the tiki washed out to sea, it came back, like a boomerang tiki.
The Skipper said, "I've been looking into this and there's a sacred but half-forgotten cave we can get to by bus."
I suddenly felt like we were back in the early days on our island, but the boys thought this was a great idea. I did suggest we invite Alice along, since she was wearing the tabu during her hula lesson, but the Skipper said, "No girls or women. They can't keep a secret."
So I can't even tell Mary Ann. Hopefully nothing bad will happen, considering we'll be walking around with a probably cursed statue.
I think I'll draw a little copy of Skipper's map on the back flap of this log, just in case.
