Chapter 13
Mandie slowly woke up to the sound of the birds chirping. She turned around and hit her uncle's chest. The scenes of last night filled her head. She told them everything.
"Good morning."
Mandie looked up at her uncle's face and smiled. "Good morning."
"How'd you sleep?"
"Well, thank you for staying with me."
Uncle John smiled. "It was my pleasure."
He stretched and hopped out of bed.
"I'm going to see what your mothers up to. I'll see you downstairs for breakfast."
Mandie nodded and watched her uncle walk out of the room. She sat there and thought about all that happened within the last month. It all started with a horse. Mandie sighed and slipped out of bed. It only took a couple minutes to just ready for breakfast. She felt so tired, more tired than usual, maybe it was because of last night. Walking down the stairs was ten times harder than ever before. Dizziness swarmed her.
"Amanda, how'd you sleep?" Asked Elizabeth.
Mandie hugged her mother good morning.
"I slept well. Thank you."
Breakfast was delicious. It was hard for Mandie to enjoy it because every bite she took it was painful.
"How are you feeling?" Asked Dr. Woodard.
She looked up at him. She was tired of hiding things and thought it was best to tell them what was going on.
"I have pain in my stomach."
"It might be best to rest. Last night was a lot on you."
Mandie shook her head and stood up.
"I'll help you." Said Elizabeth.
She walked up to her daughter and helped her stand up.
"Let's go to lay down in the parlor."
The walk to the parlor felt like Mandie was climbing up Mt. Kilimanjaro.
"Thank you for helping me." Said Mandie.
Elizabeth smiled. "I'll always help you."
Mandie laid down and pulled the covers over her. The pain in her stomach was getting worse. She closed her eyes and could hear her mother walking out of the room. This was a nightmare for her. She thought back on the day that they found out she was pregnant.
…
"Mandie, my parents were wondering if we could go to their place for supper?" Asked Joe, as he lay down next to his wife.
Mandie sighed and closed her eyes. The sun felt so good on her face. Early that afternoon she had come out to enjoy the beauty of the day. She rubbed her hands on the soft grass.
"Um, are you going got answer me?" Asked Joe, as a soft chuckle came out.
She opened her eyes and smiled. "That sounds lovely."
Joe slipped his hand into hers. "What are you thinking about?"
"All sorts of things. Today was a peaceful day for me." Answered Mandie. She could feel his breath on her neck.
"I'm glad."
Joe's lips started to come close to hers. Mandie closed her eyes again and took it all in. This was a rare moment for her. At this time of day, she would be cooking supper, or tending to some other need. Lucky for her, she did all those things beforehand, and they were going to Joes parents' house for supper. She wanted to enjoy the day before it left. The sun and having her husband right at her side made it all the better. Joe's lips brushed over hers. Her heart still raced every time her kissed her, but she loved it. She could feel herself moan.
Joe laughed. "You sure liked that!"
"It's not every day that you kiss me."
The next hour was spent in silence as the couple enjoyed the company of one another.
"Joe!" Yelled Mandie, as she quickly sat up.
"What's wrong." He sat up in alert. Mandie was just laying down next to him with her head on his chest.
"What time do we have to be at your parents' house?"
Joe looked at her with wide eyes and looked at the sky. "It looks like we should already do there."
"Oh no!"
Joe quickly stood up and help his wife from the ground.
"Hurry up!" Yelled Mandie.
The next couple of minutes was stressful, as they worked together to get everything they needed. They ended up a half an hour late. The wheels rattled as the wagon rolled into the driveway.
Joe held his hand out foe Mandie. She quickly hopped down.
"I think we're in trouble." Said Mandie.
Joe tilted his head and lifted one eyebrow.
"Look."
He turned his head toward the front door.
Mrs. Woodard came running out of the house.
"Thank the Lord you're okay.!" She said, as she embraced us in hugs and kisses.
"We were delayed." Said Joe.
"What happened?" Asked Mrs. Woodard, as her ran her hand through his hair. "Oh, never mind, you can tell us inside."
They walked into their house, and into their parlor.
"Dad." Said Joe.
Dr. Woodard smiled.
"It's good to see you as always."
The two embraced.
"It's a pleasure to see you, Amanda."
They hugged and Mandie's head swarm with dizziness. She stumbled backwards. Joe quickly grabbed her arm.
"Mandie, are you okay?" Concern filled his voice as Joe asked his question.
"Um, I'm fine. I just need a moment to relax."
"Please sit down." Said Dr. Woodard.
Mandie grabbed the arm rest and sat down.
"Let me get you a cup of tea." Offered Mrs. Woodard. She hastily walked into the kitchen.
"Amanda, can you tell me what just happened?"
"I just got dizzy."
Joe looked at his father.
"I think it would be wise if dad gave you a quick check up." Said Joe.
"No, I'm fine. He doesn't have to do that."
"Mandie, please just let him."
Mandie looked at her husband and sighed.
"Fine."
Only a couple minutes past as Dr. Woodard examined her.
"Here's your tea." Mrs. Woodard handed her the cup.
"Thank you."
"What do you think dad?" Asked Joe.
Dr. Woodard smiled. "Amanda is pregnant!"
"I'm pregnant!"
"She's pregnant!"
"I'm going to be a grandmother!"
"Dad are you serious!"
"Absolutely! From everything that she told me and the checkup I did on her I'd say she pregnant!"
Joe grabbed him wife around the waist and spun her around.
"This is one of the best days of my life!"
Mandie laughed. "Me to!"
Joe's lips can crashing down on Mandie's. It felt like heaven coming down to earth. The rest of the night was spent talking about the baby.
…
Tears rolled down her face as the memory flooded back to her.
"Joe, I love you!" Mandie whispered.
The pain in her stomach was getting worse.
I think I'm going into labor!
"Mother!" Mandie screamed.
