Author's Notes: WHAT AN AMAZING JOURNEY! THANKS FOR EVERYONE WHO GAVE ME A CHANCE AND READ THIS! I LOVE YOU ALL.
This Chapter will be the Finale to Season 1 of 'The Kazehaya Virus'. After posting this, I'm gonna take a massive break from this FanFic to focus on my other ones. The story will take a massive turn in writing style and the way I tell the story when I eventually come back.
I'm gonna be honest, I never thought I'd get to even finish S1. I was even considering leaving it aside or deleting it outright. It was very draining to write this, since the quick, action-based style of Zombie stories is not my strongsuit. From now on, the stories will be much, MUCH slower paced, focusing more on the characters than anything.
That's all I have to say for now. Thank you guys for everything you've done, and I'll see you back here one day. Enjoy the final chapter.
"I... can't even stand anymore." Naoto stumbled onto the floor, having drained out all his energy. This was it for him. It was the end.
Tears ran down from his face once more, but not because of the fact that he'd die. No. It was because of all the promises he never got to fulfill. All the promises he made to that one girl in his life.
The girl that never left him alone. The girl that made him cry, twice. The girl that begged him to draw her. The girl who was so annoying that it was impossible not to enjoy her company to some degree.
He was sorry that he couldn't fulfill his promises for the girl he loved.
"Senpai?" Nagatoro tried to open the door, but it seemed like Naoto had somehow locked it. "Senpai? What are you doing? Get inside, please!"
The girl calmly shook the door. "Senpai! Please! What are you doing? This has to be a prank, right? You'll come inside any minute, right?" Nagatoro's shaking of the door got more and more frantic by the second, until she was eventually pulling and shaking it with all her might.
"Hayase..." Nagatoro turned to Gamo. "Gamo! He's kidding, right? You're in on this joke! Help me open the door."
"Nagatoro... didn't you see? Naoto was... he was... bitten." Nagatoro couldn't breathe for a second. It felt like her heart had sunken to the center of the earth. "H-Haha. Real funny, asshole. Naoto would never get bitten. He can't die a virgin." Nagatoro looked at Gamo, her eyes begging her yo say it was all just a joke.
But Gamo didn't respond, simply staring at her with an upset look. "N-No! He can't! He has to come inside!" She desperately shook the door, even though it refused to budge. "Get inside already, you asshole!!"
Nagatoro began to desperately kick agains the door repeatedly, trying to smash it open. "Please, Senpai! Just come inside!" Naoto gave no response.
"Please! GET IN!!!" Nagatoro yelled her lungs out, slamming her entire body against the door. Gamo and the others finally stepped in, holding her back from hurting herself.
"No! Let me go! Senpai! SENPAI!" Nagatoro struggled and struggled to no avail, trying to get free so she could reach for her Senpai. "Please, Hayase! He can't come inside! He knows it himself!"
"No! Sen-..." Nagatoro couldn't even hold it back anymore as a river of tears ran down her face as she screamed all she could at the door, knowing fully that the only boy she loved was right behind it. "N-Naoto! Please! You promised to take me to the festival for a date! You promised to only kiss me when I beat Orihara! You promised! You promised! You liar!" Nagatoro screamed and scrambled around, now simply trying to let out all the pain inside her. "you... you promised."
Naoto was sitting on the other side of the door, hearing everything. "I know I'm a liar, and a piece of shit. I promised you so many things, yet I couldn't even keep one of them. I'm sorry I couldn't take you to the festival. I'd have loved to go. I'd have loved to see you in a Yukata. I'm so sorry."
"I'm so sorry! I love you!" Naoto yelled out to the world. He didn't care that it was embarassing, because it wasn't. He was proud to have fallen for someone like her, and he'd be proud of her if she remembered him.
Naoto looked at the gun in his hand, before pointing it. "I wonder how much... this will hurt. Beats being a Zombie." Naoto's tears fell on the concrete floor as his shaky hands aimed the pistol.
"Goodbye, Nagatoro." Naoto whispered to himself, before slowly pulling the trigger.
...Bang...
Naoto audibly heard the gunshot from outside. Gamo, Yoshi and everybody else heard it as well.
Gamo let go of Nagatoro in shock, wondering if that sound signified what she thought. "Did he...?"
Nagatoro finally released herself from the grasp of the others, going to the door. "Naoto! What was that sound? Please, talk to me!" Once again, Nagatoro got no response.
"No..." Nagatoro fell on the floor, quietly sobbing to herself. Even if she couldn't see it, she knew that a single gunshot followed by silence could only mean one thing.
Naoto Hachioji, her first kiss, and her first love, had just died.
It had been one week since Naoto's death. After what happened, Gamo and the others got to work on setting up the radio. Afterwards, they proceeded to listen to all the channels for two consecutive days, until they finally found a broadcast.
It was from a small and Indepentend group of militaries, claiming they'd take in any survivors. They gave out a list of instructions on where to meet up, which the group very carefully followed.
The group eventually made it to the meeting point, where they were met with multiple survivors and soldiers.
As promised, the group was taken in. The place was protected by a massive wall, making it nearly impossible for Zombies to get inside.
Despite the safety of the place, Nagatoro and the others knew that nothing would ever be the same.
Gamo sat in the assigned room of her group, holding a cloth as she cleaned something in her hand. "We wouldn't want the last memory of you to be dirty, would we, Paisen?" She said to herself, turning to a wall in the room with a picture hanging on it. It seemed to be a picture that Nagatoro had taken with Naoto, of both of them at the festival from last year.
Gamo approached the wall. "I'm glad we could atleast keep this picture of you." She said, before leaving the Axe next to the frame. "We miss you, Paisen. Especially her. You don't know how much she misses you." She said.
"Miss him?" Gamo turned around to see Nagatoro standing behind her. "Why would I miss him? He's right here." She said, pointing at a chair.
Gamo looked at Nagatoro, before turning to look at the chair. "Ah, would you look at that. Where have you been buddy?"
Nagatoro smiled. "You're so lucky, Senpai! Now you get to sleep in the same room as all of us girls. You're thinking of doing dirty things, aren't you?"
"N-No! Not at all!"
"Sure you aren't. You can't trick me, lousy senpai! You already look so suspicious."
Gamo looked at her friend as she talked to 'Naoto' with worried eyes. She didn't know what was wrong with her or when she snapped, but she didn't know if telling her the truth would help her much.
Gamo continued to look at Nagatoro as she spoke to the empty chair. "Gamo. I'm right, aren't I? He's acting super suspicious right now!"
"...Yes." Gamo responded, before leaving the room. "He sure is."
