I do not own Hetalia, okay? I know it has been a while since I updated this fic, but I do plan to have this story go to the end. Anyway, enough of this A/N, on with the fic!

(From the diary of Alfred F Jones.)
It's been so long since I had seen Vanya actually happy. Like really happy. Not that fake happy you see at work. The other guys may think he's happy to be back at work, but I know him better. When ever I had seen him outside of work, it was obvious he wasn't the same. I also know what Mattie had told me he'd seen when he had gone to visit Katyusha. I wish he would just make it serious with her and just say "Hey I really like Katyusha and I want to date her." I think that would be so sweet. Both of them need someone like the other. Like Vanya really needs to talk to Lucille, ask her out. I mean he looks away and blushes when I say it. Come on, this is America, you don't need to worry about "proper society', and he already knew her a fair bit before she came to New York and some of her friends at the party last night seemed to like him. Maybe he should write stories like that one guy who was in the war too. And God, Nattie was so maaaaad last night when I came home late. Thinking I kept Vanya up too late, that we were doing something foul behind her back, I don't know where she gets these ideas but none of that happened. She even still was mad until Vanya himself confirmed that yes, Lucille's friends keep him there late and I stayed to make sure he got home safely. Then she acted like nothing happened. I love her. Despite how mad she can act sometimes. But I do know she worries about her brother. He is her favorite relative after all.
However when he took Nikolai out back to show him how to shoot the bb gun he was given for his birthday, I saw a real change in him, even when he was being serious with Nikolai and telling him what he needs to do when shooting, treating the toy as if it was a real gun, which is good as when he gets older, I do want to get him one of his own. And I don't wonder if maybe, just maybe Mattie had a point about being out in nature did good for his mind when he was a Mountie. Maybe that would help Vanya too…. I don't know, but when Nikolai gets older, I will take him hunting or have Mattie do it, I don't know. It would be good to have him learn how to be an outdoorsman, even if he grows up in the city. But all in all, seeing Vanya teaching Nikolai this was something that seemed to bring the old smile back that I had not seen since before the war. Katy said that one of the doctors she worked with said his spine could be bruised and he might be able to walk again someday. Well, one can hope. Nikolai wants to swim with his uncle again.
So how was that? Good? Bad? Short? Long? Let me know in a review. This story is intended to stand independent of both The Longing of the Heart and The Healing of the Heart which this story will have a difference from both naturally. Now if this will be as long as those, that I do not know yet and I won't update as fast as some of the others I have. But anyway, remember to read (well you just did) and to review. Ciao for now,
