Old Demons

Chapter Five

Morning came, but it wasn't sunny. Gray clouds loomed over Reefside, along with a rumble of thunder that scorched the sky.

At Reefside High School, teenagers and teachers were running into the school building, hoping to get inside before the weather grew worse.

Conner, Ethan, and Kira were running inside. The first bell had already rung. While Conner and Ethan ran ahead of her, Kira stopped. She felt as if she was being watched. Looking around, her eyes went to the parking lot, where she spotted a white cat staring right back at her. The two kept her kept staring at each other but the Kira but took a step back when the cat's eyes gave off a red glow.

"Katherine," Kira whispered.

Are you ready for the storm?

Kira's eyes widened. Did Katherine just talk to her? What storm? She wondered. She looked at the sky but shook it off, for she needed to get to class. Kira turned around and headed inside, but she couldn't stop thinking about what she was told.

Running down the hall, Kira made it to her homeroom just as the rumbles grew louder and the sky the darker. Soon, a flash of lightning streaks through the sky, causing everyone in the class to look out the window.

Sitting down in her seat just as the second bell rang, can Kira breathe a sigh of a relief she wasn't late. Yet as she pulled out her books for class, she still couldn't get what Katherine said out of her mind. Why would she say that? Yeah, the weather was looking bad outside, and it was going to rain, but she didn't think that was the storm she was mentioning. Pushing it in the back of her mind once more, Kira pulled out her pencil book in paper and focused my class.

Back in the Dino Cave, Hayley's eyes were wondering over the results of the test she conducted on Tommy. While glancing over at the monitors that were connected to the cameras all over the city. With Rita and Mesogog joining forces, it was only a matter of time before they would strike again.

Hayley found something very peculiar. The more she looked over Tommy's results, she noticed an increase in brain activity that was much higher than normal.

Looking back at the monitors, Hayley noticed there was something going on in the parking lot at Reefside high school. Pressing a button, she zoomed in to get a closer look. By the trees were swaying fiercely as lightning streak across the sky, but all Hayley could do was stare at the screen at a white cat. But right before her eyes, the cat transformed into a woman with blonde hair wearing a pink jacket and a white top with black jeans.

Hayley took a deep breath, swallowed hard. She may have only seen her once, and that was in was Katherine. But it was strange Katherine was standing there as if waiting for someone or thing. She got her answer when a slew of Putties and Tyrannodrones appeared on either side of her. What made it worse was that Catherine turn to the camera and cracked a smile before cutting the transmission.

Wasting no time, Hayley dropped everything she was doing and sent out an alert to everyone, for the storm was about to strike

In math class, Connor leaned back in his chair as he looked down at his math book. He wasn't falling along with the teacher. He was flipping through a Sports magazine he hid in his book. Soon a boomer of thunder caused him to jump as he dropped his book on the floor. As he went to bend down to pick it up, he stared out the window at a streak of lightning, though but he forgot all about that the moment he saw Elsa with Putties and Tyrannodrones all round her.

Connor rose to his feet, ignoring the teacher as Elsa stared right back at him. The rain fell, balling up his fists. Connor stood there as the other student looked out the window. Soon a mixture of screams and whisperers echoed all around him, be he ignored them as he kept his eyes on Elsa, waiting to see what her next move would be.

Typing away in computer class, Ethan had just completed his work before everyone. The moment he hit the save button, the lights in the room flickered as a flash of lightning caught his attention. It didn't take long for a rumble of thunder to follow, making everyone feel in seconds as Ethan's Dino bracket vibrated. Something told him to look outside, so ignoring the teacher, he turned to the window he took a deep breath and stood up. There stood Zeltrax, along with a mixture of Putties and Tyrannodrones looking right back at him. Now he knew what Hayley was trying to get a hold of him.

Sitting in English class, Kira did her best to follow along with what the teacher was saying, but all she could think of was Katherine and what she told her in the parking lot. Trying to shake it off, she picked up her pencil, but she suddenly felt a shiver run up her back. Something was wrong. Someone was watching her just like before, within moments her Dino Bracelets, before she could think about it her Dino bracelet vibrated. A rumble of thunder boomed across the sky as rain smack against the windows. Kira was about to excuse herself when a flash of lightning caused her to jump. Turning to the window, her eyes narrowed as she looked into the into the glowing red eyes of a blond woman with a smile across her lips. Behind her was a mixture of Tyrannodrones and Putties but her eyes were staring right back at Kira.

"Katherine," Kira said.

"Correct, Yellow Ranger. I hope you're ready for the storm is here."

Screams filled the air as thunder roared. As another round of lighting followed, the windows shattered thought all the whole high school as the lights went out. Teenagers were hopping over their desks and turning them over as they push their way out of the classrooms and into the halls. Pouring out of the rooms where dozens upon dozens of Putties and Tyrannodrones were blasting trash cans and anything that was in their sights.

The teachers and rest of the staff, along with the students, were running down the halls while some hid in closets and bathrooms. Others weren't so lucky as Putties and Tyrannodrones pulled them down the halls. Everyone was trying to stay safe or find a safe place to hunker down while Connor, Ethan, and Kira knew there was no place for anyone.

While the other students and teacher ran out of the room, Connor stood his ground, blocking, kicking, and punching any Putties and Tyrannodrones that came near him, but as they kept on coming, even his T-Rex speed wasn't enough. Soon he was backed up towards the door was pushed out into the hall.

Connor was being shoved and pushed. He had no choice but to move. Forward as he kept following the crowd, he stopped as Ethan came flying out of computer class, slamming into the lockers. Pushing through the crowd, Connor helped his friend up.

"Are you okay?" Conner asked.

"Yeah,"

The two of them looked into the computer room to see Zeltrax disappear as more Putties poured out of the of the classroom. Right now, the only thing they could do was follow the crowd and make sure everyone was safe.

Connor and Ethan finally caught up with Kira, but noticed she was just standing there as teachers and the rest of the staff ran right around her. Shrugging the shoulders, they stood beside her and turned around to see a woman with long blond hair staring right back at them with a smile spread across her lips.

"Who is that?" Ethan asked.

"Katherine Hillard...the cat Dr. O saw,"

By this time, the halls were quiet. The teachers, students and rest of the staff were gone, leaving only Putties and Tyrannodrones roaming the halls.

Connor and Ethan looked around. They couldn't believe. it they didn't know whether to fight or run. Kira and Katherine didn't seem bothered by any of this. It's as if they were in their own world.

When Katherine took a step forward, so did Kira. Both women were walking towards each other until they were only a foot apart. Connor and Ethan wanted to join her and fight by her side, but they had a feeling there was only room for one ranger in this fight.

"Guys go I got this," Kira said with her back turned to them.

Wanting to protest, Connor nodded as he and Ethan walk by the two women. Glancing at her friends as they exited the school, Kira's eyes went back to Katherine.

Gritting her teeth and balling up, Kira glared at Katherine, who chuckled.

"Are you ready for this yellow ranger?"

"The name's Kira and yeah, let's do this,"
