Old Demons

Chapter Nine

Sitting in the living room, Connor, Ethan, and Billy could hear Kira crying. Both teens swallowed hard as they continued the push down the fear and anger that loomed within them as well.

Of course, they were terrified, but they had to go back to the friends and loved ones. Like it or not, they stood between Rita and Mesogog, controlling the world.

Shallow breaths escaped Ethan as he wiped away a few tears. Connor patted him on the back. Both teams stared at each other as reality finally set in.

Billy stood up, laying a hand on boy's shoulders.

"This is the constant burden of being a Power Ranger, the heavy cost of defeat."

"How do you get over it?" Ethan asked.

"By not giving up, even in times like this, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel," Billy said

"He's right," a voice said.

Billy looked up and smiled as Conner and Ethan stood up as Kira walked in with Trini and Hayley. Ethan moved as Kira sat down between them.

"You mentioned a way to limit our fighting with Dr. O and Katherine," Kira said.

Billy nodded, motioning to Trini, who left the room.

"A long time ago, me, Trini, Katherine and Tommy met up and had an interesting conversation.

Flash back:

Five years ago, Trini smiled as Katherine and Tommy were sitting in the backyard on the patio at a table enjoying a nice cup of tea. Everyone was smiling as they looked out at the massive backyard filled with many trees and various kinds of vegetation.

"I see you don't have to go to the grocery store," Katherine said

"Nope, Billy made sure that we everything we would ever need is right here." Trini said, before taking a sip from her cup.

"It truly is peaceful here," Tommy said, looking up at the clear blue sky.

"So why the two of you invited us here?" Katherine asked. "I know it's not because of the view or vegetation."

"To ensure the safety of the two of you and the world," a voice answered.

Billy walked out on to the patio with a medium size silver box in hand. Sitting down beside Trini, she moved the tea set out of the way just as Billy set the case down on the table. Billy opened it up, revealing two medium size containers in side one green and the other pink. Katherine at the contains confused while Tommy looked at them and nodded.

You've been tinkering again, "Tommy said. "I take it the green liquid is for me and the pink is for Katherine, but that is it?"

"A serum, I was experimenting with both of your DNA during your dark sides and I have created this a serum. Should the both of you ever turn evil again, one injection of this will turn you back. Billy explained.

"I like it," Tommy said.

"Me too. I feel much better knowing we have a backup plan." Katherine added.

"So I take it you informed the others about this?" Tommy asked.

"Uh, I wanted to discuss this with you two first before to talked with them."

Trini glared at Billy, giving him a nudge caused him to sigh.

"There could be some side effects, but they should be minor, Billy paused. "Oh, also could I trouble you both for some blood and DNA samples? I want to run some more tests before I discuss this with the others." Billy said.

"Sure, why not a fresh same is a good sample," Tommy said, standing up.

"I agree," Katherine said, standing up as well.

Closing the sliver case and standing up, Billy lead Tommy and Katherine back to his lab.

End of flashback:

Trini entered the room with a medium size suit case. Opening it up, everyone looked at two canisters one green and the other pink. with a needle beside each vial.

"Inject them with this and Rita's hold over them will be no more," Billy said.

"So it's a cure, then?" Hayley asked.

"Hm, you can say that. Minimal testing in the lab and showed excellent results. Billy said.

Billy pointed to the halfway mark on the needles. "Fill each needle to this mark. That should will be enough to return them to normal.

"Now, if everyone is ready, come with me. We have already fixed your Jeep. It's gassed up and ready to go."

The teens hopped up, smiling as they followed Billy.

Just as Hayley was about to join them, she noticed Trini pulling out two large, fat needles. Filling them up to the top. Trini placed them in a smaller case before picking up both cases. She looked at Trini, who looked back at her, followed by a sigh.

"What are they for?" Hayley asked.

A last resort, Trini said, setting both cases down.

Trini motioned for Hayley to join her on the couch. Hayley sat down first, followed by Trini, who let out another sigh the moment she sat down.

"As you know, our job is never easy. Knowing Billy, he didn't tell you the entire story. Trini said, shaking her head.

"Not to damping our spirits," Hayley said.

"Or to cause worry," Trini said.

"Go on," Hayley said.

"Billy created the serum around two scenarios, one in a standard setting while the other in a dire one like now," Trini said.

"Did he tell the others about it like promised?" Hayley asked.

"He talked with Jason about it and the conversation ended in a yelling match." Trini paused. The reason is that in both scenarios, there would be side effects." "In the standard one, it would be something as simple as a runny nose or sore throat, but in the dire one, not even Billy could predict what the outcome would be."

Hayley sighed. "The result?"

"The project was deemed too dangerous. Jason ordered Billy to scrap it, but I know Billy he kept on tinkering. Even now, he doesn't know what side effects the last resort would bring. I just hope it's not too severe.

Outside Connor, Ethan was already in the back of the Jeep while Kira was riding shotgun. They all held smiles across their faces, with their spirits renewed and determining in their eyes, Hayley felt it rubbing off on her.

Running over and slipping into the driver's seat, Trini placed both suitcases in the back under the seats.

"I told them of the few enhancements I made to the Jeep. Good luck!" Billy said.

"Thank you both for everything," Hayley said.

"Thank you," the teens said in unison.

"Lets go!" Connor yelled.

Revving up the engine, Hayley, Connor, Ethan, and Kira waved as they zoomed off.

Billy and Trini smiled, waving to them. Once they were out of sight, Trini leaned her head on Billy's shoulder.

"You gave them the last resort, didn't you?" Billy asked.

"Because I know you wouldn't." Trini said.

Billy sighed as he wrapped his hand around Trini's waist. "Your right… I hope they don't have to use it.

"I hope they don't have to, either."
