At least his foster family wouldn't wake up from his gasping and crying after the bad dreams. Both of them changed into sleep clothes. Shoto got him an extra pillow and blanket. Neither of them were blinded by turing the lights off, and didn't need a night light to see the room dimly. Laying on the bed, Izuku turned on his side to look at Shoto, who was pretty sleepy.
"Do you think you'd ever be able to drink from a consenting human?"
"Maybe some day. Probably not anytime soon because I still look down on them… what if I thought so little of them that I just didn't stop?" Shoto said quietly.
"You could try with me. You don't look down on me, and my injuries heal fine," Izuku said so bluntly with a smile. Shoto frowned. "Did I upset you?"
Shoto shrugged a shoulder, and curled up a bit more. "What if I only started seeing you as a blood bank or something?"
"There's no way you'd think that. We've been through too much. And we'll go through even more together in the future," Izuku said, putting a hand on Shoto's burned cheek. "It'll all be okay." Shoto licked his lip and nodded with a smile. They both fell asleep, Shoto intaking the smell of his half human friend all night.
When he woke up slightly, he moved closer unconsciously until his face was nearly pressing Izuku's chest. Yeah, the smell gave the scent of delicious food, but it also felt safe in a way. Which was the emotional pull he knew was there. Bakugo was his friend, but could not be compared to Izuku. They were both very different and served different emotional roles.
Izuku fully woke up first, and saw Shoto so close to him. He ran his fingers through his hair. "Mmm."
"Heh, feel nice?"
"Yeah," Shoto mumbled. "Like physical affection… not good at giving though. I don't wanna make someone uncomfortable," he said. Izuku put both hands in his hair, rubbing his scalp back and forth. Shoto fell back asleep from the comforting sensation.
When he woke up, he was in a good mood. Izuku was on his phone, already changed into his day clothes, pajamas folded neatly in his backpack. He looked up, easily hearing Shoto's change in breathing and ruffling of the covers. "Morning sunshine."
"I've never been a 'sunshine'."
"I can call you what I want," Izuku replied. "Sorry if my conversation last night overstepped some boundaries… I know what it's like for someone to just do what they want and not think about the pain you'd be putting the other through." The Bakugo incident before he went to rehab. But he'd forgiven and moved on, and it seemed the fully human had, too.
Shoto shook his head. "Made me feel good…" he mumbled. "You trust me and all. Even now that you're more human…" Izuku smiled and nodded. "Even though you're not a vampire anymore, why do you want to stay friends?"
"I was never friends with you just because we were both vampires. And even if I was in the beginning, we've been friends almost half a year by now. Things'll be okay," Izuku promised. Shoto nodded, wanting to believe him, and doing his best to truly do so. He believed that Izuku cared about him, and that's all he could ask for.
