Chapter 1:
Introductions
"Yah don't have to say anything," Rogue slipped inside the extravagant home and part, past the hostess. The music blared and yet, Emma Frost's glare was louder.
"Ah know Ah'm late."
Finally earning the courage, Rogue's deep emerald green eyes landed on Emma's perfect face, "Ah'm surprised the boss signed off on Miami…given what happened last time."
"Don't you dare change the subject," Emma flipped her platinum blonde hair over her shoulder, huffing. At this point in time, Emma and Rogue grew into a friendship since they were 13 or so. Meaning, Rogue knows Emma won't forgive her tardiness anytime soon.
"Yah seem stressed. What do yah need?"
Emma's lips thinned, "Nothing. I got it all under control."
Rogue perked a perfectly manicured brow, "Why are yah poutin' then?"
"Your lovely sister is here."
Rogue paled.
Lyla should be in Mississippi getting ready for college. She heard through the channels Lyla got into Ole Miss. Classes starts tomorrow. There's no way she will make it in time. Does Irene know or Raven? Obviously not, if they did she wouldn't be here partying like an animal.
"And Storm brought her rabid fiancé," Emma huffed with disgust written in her words.
Icing on the cake.
Emma and Ororo's relationship is summed up as odd. They're rtwo strong willed and driven women. Also stubborn.
Before Ororo walked on the side of the angels she was the white Queen of the Hellfire Club. Eventually she put down the crown to play X-Man. Fun times truly. It allowed Emma to step up and stomp on anyone she could to grab the crown. The same crown which fits her perfectly. When Emma and Storm get around each other it's a silent dick swinging competition.
If men can do it reader, women do it better.
Rogue, enjoying the drama, bit down in her lower lip, "Ah'm here now."
"Yes, well the world thanks you." Emma snapped in need of a drink.
"Ah'll talk to Ly—"
Emma interrupted her, "she's fine. I need you to deal with that," She pointed in the direction of the bar. Ororo the height and face of a supermodel, leaned on the bar smiling bright as her one piece white bathing suit, enhanced her rich melanin skin.
How Wolverine got a gorgeous woman like 'Ro the world may never know. One thing is certain, he's a lucky man.
"good luck."
Emma is enjoying every moment of this but it's fair. She said she was going to show face hours ago and yet, she didn't keep her word. The White Queen is known for mind games. Talking to Ororo is a cruel punishment but it saves her from talking to Lyla.
Okay, maybe she's being over dramatic. Her relationship with Ororo and the X-Men is strained since she works for her mothers helplessly dumb group, the Brotherhood. But, her hardships with Ororo's been there far before the X-Men were involved.
Gambit is a charmer. A smooth talker and she should trust him and does. However, the way he and Ororo talk and flirt its slightly off-putting. There's nothing to be jealous of but there's a small voice in her head that makes Rogue think there is more history between the two than they're letting on.
Anything for Emma.
She reminded herself as she plastered on the southern charm.
"Ro, didn't expect yah."
Ororo looked away from Lyla's handsome face. Her, Lyla's, pearly white smile disappeared, getting swallowed by the crowd.
"You and her not talking?" Ororo questioned. Her voice motherly and soothing.
"guess not."
"Haven't seen you in awhile."
A ploy. Storm uses her kindness and soft tone to get information out of you. Rogue mentally rolled her eyes, "too busy runnin' a business."
"I see," Ororo took a sip of her cocktail, "And how is Raven?"
"Ah wouldn't know, she left me in control of the Brotherhood while she is working in Genosha."
"She didn't take Irene?"
No, Raven didn't take Irene. She's unsure why. At first she thought it's because they needed someone to watch Lyla. Well, her snippy and rude little sister seems to be fine as she's here, so, why not take her mother. Unless they're getting a di—nope, she won't think in such a way. Raven and Irene, no matter how fucked, have a strong love and bond. There's no way they would separate.
"Annoying as per usual."
Storm snickered.
"No Remy?"
And there we have it folks. Storm finally mentioned Remy. It was bound to happen. They're inserperable. Rogue gets it. Ororo stayed with the family to the point she is family. It's the jealousy talking of course, but Rogue is weary of they're relationship as well Bella Donna. Sure, they grew up together but that's precisely why she doesn't trust them. She knows how they act.
"He's in D.C. Maddy is using his talents."
"oh. I'm glad he's no longer working for Magneto."
He is.
Rogue didn't care. He's making money his way and if that means beat up the X-Men or embarrass them then she is fine with it, keeps him out of her business.
"Why don't yah ask him yah self. Y'all are so close."
"Areny we snippy this evening." Storm smiled, smug.
Time to get into the seriousness of the situation, "Yah brought Logan here! Are yah out of yah mind?!"
Storms eyes hardened, "My relationship is my business not yours."
How rich coming from someone who's been in her relationship since day one.
Rogue stepped up to Storm since Noone else had the balls. "When yah jeopardize the empire we all built it is my business. Yah still one of us but if yah bring him or any other X-Men here to a club event we will have major issues."
Rogue then shoved her shoulder past Storm. In need of a drink and Remy's company. Who isn't here…fucking great.
"You doing alright?" The familiar tone of voice allowed Rogue to take a deep breath and relax. One person who understand her, Wanda. Her best friend, number 2, and step-sister.
Taking the empty seat on the couch over looking the pool, Rogue handed Wanda a drink, "Logan's here."
Wanda spit out her drink in disbelief.
"You think he's here to spy on us?"
"as of right now, Ah think he's here to support his fiancé. But…"
"be careful in what we talk about?" Wanda asked.
"Bingo." Rogue confirmed.
"That seemed heated," Logan came back over with a drink in hand.
Ororo waved it off as if it wasn't a big deal. He isn't sure what the history Between Ororo and Rogue is but it's never please to. He's sure 'Ro will tell him when she's ready but he keeps his guard up in case.
"You gather everything Professor asked of us?"
"I did. I'm surprised your pals were okay with it," He shoved his hands in his pockets when his eyes caught on to a familiar pair of eyes.
Logan stomped over to the girl, grabbing her wrist, "Are ya out of ya mind!? I thought you were at the Avengers Academy? What the fuck are you doin'here?"
The girl ripped her wrist away from him, "Logan! What the hell are you doin' here?!"
Background for new readers, Stahr Howlett, based on the last name is the middle child of Wolverine. She grew up in Alberta with her mother. How she ended up in Manhattan was unknown. One day she showed up, said she was his and she'll be around Manhattan. Accepted into the Avengers Academy, whatever that means.
It starts tomorrow.
They're in Miami.
She is not making it to school on time, leaving a terrible first impression.
"I asked you a question," She said snapping him back to reality.
"And I asked ya one first kid."
Stahr set down her drink, "I'm enjoying my youth for once."
"And ya have to do that at the Academy."
One thing he's learning about his daughter, she's stubborn like him.
"I didn't know ya knew Rogue." He said changing the subject.
Stahr sighed, "I don't."
A tall woman emerged from the depth of the shadows. Her dark eyes, familiar, scowled at him. He returned the favor.
"E'rythin' 'ight?" Her voice heavy and raspy with a Mississippi accent. It can't be, can it? He thought…no he'll pretend her possible parents didn't fool around to create another monster.
Stahr leaned into the woman, bored, "Logan this is Lyla. Lyla this is—"
Lyla snorted, "Ah know who he is."
Logan snarled and took a intimidating step forward. Lyla did not move an inch, unafraid.
He opened his mouth to say more but a strong blast sent him flying across the room into the DJ booth.
"Ow." He croaked
