Chapter 4.5: Interlude: Wolf pelts.
POV: Nastya Surikova
A deep sigh escaped my lips as I read report after report of our efforts being thwarted against the dictator that was Kurchatov. His forces have been recently uprooting out movement in the central regions of Siberia. While this is a minor setback when compared to last year's failed offensive, it was still another step back in the revolution. Looking away at the reports, I see one of my assistants reading another report I handed to him, and his face shows lots of conflicts, it must be another failed supply raid against one of the smaller outposts. Our supply situation has been getting worse by the day and at this point, turning towards the black market seems to be the best option, even with their harsh markups.
Shaking my head slightly, I picked up another report, however, this time, it came from one of our spies within the Siberian Amry. Opening it up, I realized it was from one of our embedded agents within Ivanowsky's compound, reviewing the contents, I gasped slightly as the report stated that Bio-Ivanowsky was reported killed by an assassin with a black mask.
"Maksim, come here and read this."
My assistant, who looked a bit distraught from the other report, walked over and came to see the report in my hands. Passing it over to him, he read it over carefully, and I saw a hint of a smile grow on his lips the tall, dark-haired Siberian nodded as he checked the photos provided by the security camera of the Black mask. However, whatever hint of a smile he had went away as he turned to me, his face now serious as he knew full well that another faction was inserting itself into their war.
"The report states that he almost killed our agent after he breached through the ceiling."
"Yes, but he didn't, which allowed us to have this information before the public knows about this."
This was useable, Bio-Ivanowsky wasn't popular with the Siberian people, and reporting this before the government makes a proper statement could give some positive PR, as the media will attribute the assassination of Ivanowsky to us. Yet something stopped me from going for that option, this assassin was an unknown, and who knows if he'll turn on us and take down one of our own leaders.
Putting a hand on my chin, I think more clearly. If the assassin counties take down more leaders within the leeche's government, it will paint our movement in a better light, as a friendly "agent" is making power plays and showing the people that we could fight back. But the threat of the unknown faction trying to influence events in the background can switch the narrative and cause our people to rely more on the influences of other nations rather than their own strength.
"What should we do with this information?"
I ask, looking back at my friend, looking towards me, he stays silent as he thinks over the options we have. And after a while, he would simply nod.
"We will support this Black mask."
Hearing his suggestion, I raise an eyebrow and signal him to explain his choice.
"From what we know, he is funded and funded pretty well. And on how The leaches have been acting internationally, this force will likely only target figureheads, which will benefit us in the long run. We won't outright state he is an ally until he proves his worth, until then, I'll have our spies mark locations where a sniper will most likely like to perch up with supplies and other means to help."
He says, thinking at his proposal, he summed up what I was thinking but in a more clear manner. Smiling as I could rely on my old friend, and so I nodded at his plan and gave him a thumbs up.
"Very well, send words to our friends that the black mask should be helped, however, make sure to have them avoid him at all costs. We don't need anyone dying from his actions."
Giving me a small salute, I glared at him as he walked away from my little office, knowing full well I hated him doing that in private. Letting out a small sigh, I walk to my chair and sit down, letting myself rest for a moment as I think of the future.
"...Please help us, we don't have much time left."
AN: Hey there, I didn't know where to fit this in chapters 4 and 5 and so I decided to make its own little thing. As well I apologize to any players who like keeping the elements of the game world hidden as a lot of information is excluded from the games and up to the player's interpretation.
With that said, enjoy my work!
