CHAPTER 5:

A few hours after the two families had their breakfast, it was time for the first stop on Flo and Unicycle's planned tour.

"Welcome to the British Museum. I hope you two are fascinated by art because there's a lot to look at here," Debbie said.

"Well, what are we waiting for, hon? Let's have a look," Flo enthused.

"Right behind you," Unicycle said as the couple followed the British family for the tour.

Their first stop on the tour was the Department of Egypt and Sudan.

"Wow. I've never seen so many mummies in one museum. Why are they short?" Flo asked.

"That's because the ancient Egyptians were small people," Nigel explained.

"Not only that, but they wore really tall hats just to make them look as tall as us. They're like fish heads," Eliza added.

"Interesting," Unicycle mused.

As they continued through the first department, they saw a brief look at all the time periods the department was divided into before moving on to the next department, which covered Greece and Rome.

"Now that we've reached Greece and Rome, here's a fun fact: London was once part of the Roman Empire," Debbie pointed out.

"How did that happen?" Flo asked.

"Rome came in and conquered them," Nigel explained.

"Then they introduced pizza," Eliza added, laughing.

Each of the collections from the different time periods had something fascinating to offer. Flo and Unicycle were instantly amazed by what they saw. After taking a moment to look through what was on display, it was time to head on to the next department, which covered the Middle East.

"Now we've reached the Middle East," Nigel said.

"I've never seen so many palaces in one place," Flo said, fascinated.

"Indeed. This one palace is named after a ruler named Ashurnasirpal II," Debbie said.

"Sounds like the name of a kangaroo," Unicycle said jokingly.

"Silly! Kangaroos are from Australia, not Egypt. I know because Mummy read it to me from a book," Eliza fired back.

"Ah, yes; the land down under," Flo added.

Each of the Middle Eastern Palaces had something to offer. They were each named after historical rulers of the past. That info alone gave Flo an idea for something interesting to read about when she and Unicycle got home to America. After taking a moment in the Middle East, it was time to make way for the Department of Prints and Drawings.

"These drawings were made by world-famous artists back in the day," Debbie explained.

"I remember reading about one. His name was Da Vinci," Eliza added.

"I remember. He not only was an artist, he also invented a lot of cool stuff," Flo added.

"Guys, I don't mean to put a halt on the tour, but can we take a break? We've been walking for hours, and I think I really need to sit down for a bit," Unicycle strongly suggested.

"That's a good idea, honey. My legs could use some rest," Flo agreed.

"I think Eliza's getting tired too. So, why don't we take a break, and we'll pick things up a bit later?" Debbie suggested.

"Sounds good to me," Flo agreed.

They found a nearby bench where they took a moment to sit down. The group found it a relief since they had been on their feet for hours. Although there were more departments to visit, Flo and Unicycle decided that, if they wanted to see them while they were in London, they could always come back on a later day.

After a long day of showing the newly married couple around at the museum, the British family decided to take an opportunity to catch up with some old friends they left behind when they moved to America. Eliza was certainly excited to reconnect with the friends from her old school since saying goodbye to them had been so hard for her. She shared stories with her old friends about her two new best friends she had gotten to know since moving to America. Her old friends were so fascinated by Eliza's stories that they hoped to maybe someday meet her new friends. Though at her age, trying to keep her existing British friends intact was difficult. Since Eliza was too young to have her own phone, she got her parents to put her friends' phone numbers in their phones. That way, anytime Eliza wanted to talk to them, she could always ask her mom to call them and make it happen.
