CHAPTER 131
Several hours ago
Yarkuzi left the building, hands on her hips. "Alright then. We'll take two separate vans. Fleur and Karuka, you guys come with me. Percival, you and Hana will leave in another van."
Hana pushed her glasses up, a look of haughtiness on her face. "Sure. Separate the Vampires from the rest of society. I see how it is now."
Yarkuzi smirked. "Are those fighting words? Would you like to fight with me?"
Fleur sighed. "What a pain. Can we get going?"
Yarkuzi harrumphed, and stalked towards a van. "Fine then. Follow me."
Percival glanced at Hana. "What are we going to do? The sun's still out."
Hana cackled. "Oh. You know what I'm going to do, don't you?"
Percival took a step back. "No, wait-"
Hana turned into black mist, surrounding Percival and whisking him away to a van.
Yarkuzi hopped into the driver's seat, turning on the engine. Karuka sat in the passengers side, much to Fleur's disappointment. "C'mon. You're way too young to sit there."
Karuka put her nose in the air. "Hmph! I'll have you know I'm a hundred-and twelve. Who are you calling a child?"
Fleur snorted. "In demon years, that's still a child. Get in the back."
"I refuse."
"Do it!"
"Make me."
Yarkuzi glared at them, vines starting to twist angrily out of her hands, which were gripping the steering wheel. "Stop fighting and just get in! People's lives are on the line here!"
Fleur got in the back without another word. Once the door was shut, Yarkuzi sped out of the parking lot. Fleur glanced at Yarkuzi's Volvo as they sped off.
"Why aren't you using your own vehicle?"
Yarkuzi frowned. "Just didn't think about it in the heat of the moment I guess." She glanced in the rearview mirror, seeing Percival driving right behind her.
Karuka swung her legs, them being too short to reach the floor. "So. Who exactly are we rescuing?"
Fleur snorted. "Ukko briefed us on the situation already."
Karuka hummed. "Well, I'm just trying to start a conversation. Hana's in the other van. I can't exactly ask her about Tsukumo can I? I mean, I already know who Quartz is. Everyone does."
Yarkuzi drove around a blockade in the road, making the construction people scramble for cover.
"Hm. Well…he's pretty nice. Shy at times. He really likes Akeno. Let's see what else…doesn't like hurting people. Though he picks on his mascot quite a bit. Tsukumo has a mentor and apprentice relationship with Percival. And he hates the absolute guts out of Yue. She feels the same way about him."
Fleur nodded, he was listening intently. "I see. And who is Akeno?"
Yarkuzi glanced at him for a second, before returning her eyes to the road. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say you're pretty interested in knowing about people."
Fleur smiled. An awkward, lopsided smile. "Well, I just like to collect information, that's all."
Yarkuzi nodded. "I see. Well, about Akeno…"
Karuka had zoned out, staring out the window with a look of complete boredom on her face.
"She really likes Tsukumo. And she's really nice. Most of the time. She has a somewhat strange relationship with Houmi. Akeno doesn't like how loud Houmi is. But she tries to be nice to her. She treats her mascot extremely well. And I like her a lot too. I gave her one of my sweaters actually, haha."
Fleur hummed. "Strange. I thought you were attached to all your sweaters."
Yarkuzi chuckled. "I am. But I still wanted to give her one. Out of the kindness of my heart."
Karuka snorted, but didn't say anything.
Fleur pulled out a beeping device from his pocket, studying it. "We're getting close. Through the trees over there I think."
Yarkuzi gripped the steering wheel. "Alright everyone, hang on. We're going off-road."
Karuka wrapped her tails around her seat, and Fleur simply gave Yarkuzi a thumbs up.
Yarkuzi swerved off the road, trying to drive straight over the grass. She pulled the brakes just before they hit a tree.
Yarkuzi glanced around. "Everyone still alive?"
Fleur peeled his face off the back seat of Karuka's seat. "Yup."
Karuka's tails were all bushed up, but she smiled. "All good here. Let's go!"
—
Percival came to a stop by the side of the road, watching Yarkuzi almost kill her passengers. "What is that idiot doing…"
Hana tapped his shoulder. "Percival look! Your katana!"
Percival glanced at Howling Fjord. It was clattering inside the sheath once again, but this time it was stronger. Frost started crawling along the sheath.
"Lorkhan is trying to tell me something…But what?"
Hana grimaced. "Guess we'll find out. Now come on. I'll transport you in my mist again until we can get inside somewhere.
"Oh, fine. Take me away."
—
Yarkuzi got out, waiting for the others to catch up.
A black mist floated beside her, waiting.
"Alright. I can see a huge hole up there in the clearing. I'm assuming that's their base. We'll go in, knock some skulls, and figure out what exactly is happening in there. I'm no Vampire, but even I can smell the amount of blood that's been spilled here. Let's be careful. Hana, I want you to go in first, scout the area. If you come back out, I'll assume it's safe."
Hana, being mist at the moment, couldn't answer her. But she started floating towards the hole in the ground, and vanished into the darkness.
Fleur snapped his fingers, and a large black sniper rifle appeared in his hands. "Don't mind me. Just getting ready for a fight."
Karuka shivered excitedly. "Finally. I want to mess with some people. A kitsune's power can vary. Me? I can make people think I'm something else. Look at this."
Yarkuzi watched curiously at Karuka transformed into a frog. "Are you actually a frog?"
The frog looked up at her. "Why don't you touch me and find out?"
Yarkuzi reached for the frog, but her hand met with a fuzzy tail instead. An invisible one. Yarkuzi blinked. "Interesting. You're still you. But my eyes are telling me it's a frog."
The frog vanished, and Karuka appeared again. "Tadah! What do you think?"
Yarkuzi clapped. "I like it!"
Karuka bowed.
Fleur narrowed his eyes. "Be quiet! You hear that?"
Everyone stood still. But they couldn't hear anything. But then, a faint clang sounded.
Fleur readied his rifle. "They're fighting. Let's get moving."
He rushed off, everyone else in hot pursuit.
