CHAPTER 135
WARNING! SELF HARM IN THIS CHAPTER! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Percival took Tsukumo, Akeno and Rayvahein in one van, and the rest had to cram themselves in the other.
Yarkuzi and the three people she brought with her had already set off, deciding to track down Murmad.
Percival was driving, while Tsukumo and Rayvahein sat in the back. Akeno was in the shotgun seat, though Tsukumo kept glancing at her worriedly.
'When Percival arrived, he looked like he was struggling to control himself. I'm worried about Akeno being so close to him right now…'
He jumped when his mother poked him in the forehead. "She'll be fine, silly. Percival knows what he's doing. Yes?"
Tsukumo gave her a disgruntled look. "Stop reading my mind. It's bad enough that you do it to your own son!"
She smiled. "Oh, I only read the important things, don't worry.'
Tsukumo blushed, wondering how many times she's heard him think about Akeno.
If she knew, Rayvahein was pretending she didn't, giving Tsukumo an innocent smile.
Percival suddenly spoke up. "I hope I'm not bursting any bubbles here, but you said you're her son. But from what I heard you were turned yes? You weren't born a Vampire like my family or Quartz?"
Rayvahein looked a bit embarrassed, and fiddled with the hem of her dress. Tsukumo frowned. "Uh, Percival…that topic isn't really…" He trailed off, unsure of what to say.
Rayvahein shook her head. "It's only right that he's curious. I have been around for a very long time, as I'm sure the legends say. The woman who could go toe to toe with the queen of aberration slayer. Kiss-Shot-Acelrola-Orion-Heart Under The Blade. Yes, I never had children. Even when I met that man, who is now our enemy. I saved Tsukumo from death."
Tsukumo stared down at the floor, uncomfortable, but didn't say anything.
"I actually did have my eye on him for awhile. He seemed healthy, but there was something off about him always. He kept to himself, and tried to avoid talking to anyone. I actually confronted him, once my curiosity got the better of me.
Tsukumo just said he didn't have much time left to live. He had some sort of disease he said, but I couldn't see anything wrong with him. It wasn't until I followed him home that night, that I realized what he actually meant. The house was dimly lit, and it seemed like he was the only one home.
I knew the Onmyoji were chasing me, so I had to make a quick decision. I followed the scent of him throughout the house, until I smelled blood. I hurried to the spot, and saw he had stabbed himself. Right through the chest. I demanded to know what he was thinking.
He said he didn't have much left to live for. His family had all passed away. They left him, all alone. Tsukumo couldn't even pay for school. I asked him if he would like a new family, and he stared at me for a long time, as he bled in my arms.
Eventually, Tsukumo caved in, and said yes. And that's the story. I wanted to stay with him longer at that moment, but the Onmyoji found me, and I had to flee, leaving Tsukumo all alone. I only saw him one other time before I was sealed, and I was surprised by the fierce devotion he had for me. We spent a night together, talking about whatever we wanted. I was surprised by how happy he seemed, but it made me happy too."
The van was silent for a very long time, the only sound being Akeno's slight wheezing breath in her sleep.
Percival stared down the road, the Agency coming into view. He was gripping the steering wheel so tight Tsukumo thought it would snap.
"I see." Was all that Percival said.
Rayvahein peered up ahead, frowning, who is that man?"
Tsukumo followed her gaze, and almost froze from shock.
There he was, Hawaiian shirt, geta sandals, cigarette and all. Giving Tsukumo a telltale smirk.
"M-Meme?!"
