Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 8 of Temporary Home. I have to admit that this was a challenging episode to write all together because well… they are caught and in jail for a bit. Also will Aeron be getting into trouble as well or will she be in the same boat as Sam? Not as much trouble, but still trouble nonetheless. I hope that I do alright with this episode. Without further ado Chapter 8.

Chapter 8

Sheridan entered the room and sat across from Dean. "Well, first I thought you were just stepping up your game. Credit card fraud, breaking and entering, and this one… puzzled me. Grave desecration. But still these are a long way from murder. Then we got a fax from St. Louis. Where you're suspected of torturing and murdering a young woman. However, no one could prove anything, of course, because supposedly you died there." He said looking at Dean. "But I gotta tell you something. You look pretty healthy to me. So now we know Karen Giles wasn't the first person you murdered. But I guarantee you she's the last." The man got up leaving Dean alone in the room.

Dean closed his eyes. He knew that this was bad. Very bad. He just hoped that Sam and Aeron had gotten out of dodge.

SNSNSN

Sam and Aeron were busy looking at the computer that he had up and running.

"I don't think Dean is going to be able to handle this on his own." Aeron told Sam, shaking her head.

Sam groaned. "I just can't believe he had gotten caught."

The door breaks open.

Aeron and Sam looked at the door. They slowly held their hands up. Oh this just couldn't get any worse for them.

Diana Ballard walked up to the two of them. "Going somewhere, Sam. Aeron?"

Aeron and Sam looked at each other. This was very very bad.

SNSNSN

Sam paced back and forth in the interrogation room that he was in.

Diana came into the room with a cup of coffee. She placed it down on the table. "Thought you might be thirsty." She told him, offering him a small smile.

"Okay, so you're the good cop. Where's the bad cop?" Sam asked, looking at her.

"Oh, he's with your brother."

"Okay. And who is with Aeron. And you're holding us, why?"

"Your girlfriend is in the other room. I will be getting with her soon." Diana told him the truth. She was going to question the young woman that they had brought in with Sam. "And as for your brother, he's being held on suspicion of murder. And you and your girlfriend, we'll see."

Sam leaned forward in shock. "Murder?"

Diana looked at the shock look in his eyes. "You sound genuinely surprised. Or are you that good of an actor?"

"Who was he supposed to have murdered?" Sam questioned whether his voice was more demanding than it was before.

"We'll get around to that."

"Well, you can't just hold us here without formal charges!" Sam was clearly upset about this entire thing. And Diana calls Aeron his girlfriend when the two of them aren't even together.

"Well, actually, we can, for forty eight hours, but you being a pre-law student, would know that. I know all about you, Sam." She looked at the file that she had. "You're twenty three years old, no job, no home address. Your mother died when you were a baby, your father's whereabouts are unknown. And then there's the case of your brother Dean. Whose demise was, well, just a little bit exaggerated. Feel free to jump in whenever you like."

Sam leaned against the wall crossing his arms.

"Shy? No problem. I'll keep going. Your family moved around a lot when you were a kid. Despite that, you were a straight-A student. Got into Stanford with a full ride." She closed the file. "Then about a year ago there was a fire in your apartment. One fatality. Jessica Moore, your girlfriend. After she died, you fell off the grid. Left behind everything."

"I needed some time off. To deal. So I'm taking a road trip with my brother and friend."

"How's that going for you?"

"Great. I mean… we saw the second largest ball of twine in the continental US. Awesome." He pulled a chair up to the table and straddled it.

"We ran Dean's fingerprints through AFIS."

"Okay."

"Got over a dozen possible hits."

"Possible hits. Which makes them worthless."

"But it makes you wonder. What are we gonna find when we run your prints? And your girlfriends?"

"Yeah, well... " He pounded his fist on the table sarcastically. "You be sure to let me know alright? And she isn't my girlfriend." He pointed to the cup. "May I?"

"Please."

"Great." He sniffed the cup's contents to make sure that there was nothing in it that was dangerous.

She leaned over intently. "Sam, you seem like a good kid. It's not your fault Dean's your brother. We can't pick our family. Right now detectives in St. Louis are exhuming a corpse. They're trying to figure out how your brother faked his own death. After torturing all those young women. Dean's a bad guy. His life is over. Yours doesn't have to be."

Sam gave her a look like she had grown another head. What the hell was she talking about? "You want me to turn against my own brother?"

"No. We already caught him cold. Red-handed at the Karen Giles murder scene. We just need you and Aeron to fill in some missing pieces."

Sam scoffed. "Why would I do that?"

"Because I can talk to the DA. Make a deal for you. You can get on with your life. Dean's as good as gone."

Sam thought about it for a moment. He leaned forward and began to talk softly. "My dad and Tony Giles were old friends. They were in the service together. We've known him since we were kids, you know? So we came as soon as we heard about his death."

SNSNSN

Dean sat at a cafe table reading a newspaper while Aeron was looking out the window.

Sam came over with three coffee cups. He sets them down onto the table. He takes a seat next to Aeron.

Dean handed the paper over.

"There you go."

"Thanks Sam." Aeron said with a small smile.

"Anthony Giles." Dean said to them both.

Aeron picked up the paper and looked at it.

"Who's Anthony Giles?" Sam asked in confusion.

"He's a Baltimore lawyer. Working late in his office, check it out."

Aeron handed the paper over to Sam. "There you go."

"Thanks." Sam began to read the paper. "Uh...my throat was slit, the room was clean. Huh. No DNA, no prints." He muttered to himself.

"Keep reading, it gets better." Dean told him.

"Security Cameras failed to capture footage of the assailant."

"So I'm thinking either somebody tampered with the times…"

"Or it's an invisible killer."

"My favorite kind. What do you think, Scully and Anderson? You wanna check it out?"

"I'm not Scully, you're Scully." Sam said, narrowing his eyes at his brother.

"No, I'm Mulder. You're a red-headed woman."

Aeron cleared her throat. "Hey, that is rude. I have slightly red hair."

Dean looked away from her nervously. "Sorry Ryan."

"You're gonna be after I shoot your ass with rock salt." She said, narrowing her eyes at him.

SNSNSN

"Woulda been kinda hard for Dean to kill Tony, considering we weren't in town at the time." Sam said, rolling his eyes.

There was a knock on the door.

"Come in."

An officer had a hold of Aeron. "This girl wouldn't stop yapping. She wanted to be with her boyfriend here."

Diana let out a sigh. "Alright. Bring her in."

The officer shoved her into the room.

"Prick." Aeron spat out.

"Have a seat." Diana snapped at her.

Aeron looked at Sam.

Sam nodded his head.

Aeron sat in the furthest corner of the room.

"Continue." Diana said, looking at Sam.

"Okay, uh, that's when we went to see Karen. She was barely holding it together. We just wanted to be there for her. You know?"

SNSNSN

Karen was sitting in her home. She looked at the forms that Sam, Dean, and Aeron had given to her. "Insurance. I totally forgot about the insurance." She said brokenly.

Sam swallowed the lump in his throat. This was one of the things that he hated about this job. "We're very sorry to bother you right now, but the company is required to conduct its own investigation. You understand."

"Sure."

"Okay. Um. If you could just tell us anything you remember about the night your husband died."

"Uh, Tony and I were just supposed to have dinner. He called and said he was having computer troubles and that he had to work late. That was it."

"Do you have any idea who could have done this to him?"

"No. No, it's like I told the police, I , I have no idea."

"Did Tony mention anything, you know, unusual to you? In the days before his death?" Dean asked her.

"Unusual…."

"What he means is anything strange." Aeron told Karen. She was being polite and kind to the woman. Which actually surprised Dean.

Karen shook her head. "Strange?"

"You know, Karen, weird? Weird noises, uh, visions, anything like that?" Dean questioned again. He was hoping to get a good answer out of her.

Sam cleared his throat and gave Dean a look.

Karen looked at Sam.

Sam went back to being concerned. Before shooting Dean another look when Karen glanced down.

Aeron reached down and pinched Dean's shoulder. It was the only thing that she could think of instead of hitting him upside the head.

"He had a nightmare the day before he died." Karen said softly.

"What kind of nightmare?" Sam asked softly.

"Uh, he said that he woke up in the middle of the night and there was a woman standing at the foot of the bed, he blinked and she was gone, I mean, it was just a nightmare."

"Did he say what she looked like?" Dean asked Karen.

"What the hell difference does it make what she looked like?"

"Uh, it's just, our company's very thorough."

"He said she was pale, and she had dark red eyes."

SNSNSN

"So I gave Karen a hug, told her to call me if she needed anything, and that was it. End of story." Sam told Diana.

"Sam, I am trying to help you here. But you have got to be honest with me. Now we have an eyewitness. Someone who saw three people fitting you, your girlfriend's , and brother's description breaking into Giles' office." Diana said, looking at him.

Aeron groaned. She was beginning to hate this cop already.

"Okay, look, Karen called us later, said that there was some stuff that she wanted from Tony's office, but the police weren't letting her in… like, a picture of the two of them in Paris, and some other stuff. Look, it was wrong to enter a crime scene, but she gave us the key!" Sam exclaimed. He was beginning to tire of this cop as well. He looked over at Aeron.

Diana looked at her. "And this is true?"

"Yes, it is. We knew it was wrong, but she was really shook up and wanted that picture of her and Tony. I wasn't about to deny her that." Aeron told Diana, crossing her arms and closing her eyes tiredly.

"Continue." Diana told them.

Sam let out a soft sigh.

Aeron nodded her head. If this was a way to clear Dean's name they had to do it. It wasn't going to be easy without him. They still had the demon to hunt for and it was something that they couldn't put on hold. Not now, not ever.

SNSNSN

Sam picked the lock on Giles' office. He pushed the door open slowly.

The three of them ducked under the police tape going inside.

Sam shined his flashlight on a pool of blood that was on the floor.

Aeron shivered. "You would think that they would kind of clean this up."

"Hey. Anthony Giles' body was found right about here." Sam said, reading something that he had with him. "Throat slit so deep part of his spinal cord was visible."

"Oh thanks for the mental picture there Sam." Aeron said, running her hand through her hair.

Dean whistled. "What do you think? Vengeful spirit? Underlining vengeance?" Dean questioned them.

"Yeah, maybe. I mean he did see that woman at the foot of his bed."

Dean picked up a sheet of paper that was laying on the desk. "Take a look at this."

Sam took the paper and Aeron looked over his arm. "Dana Shulps. A name?"

Dean found another paper. "I dunno, but it's everywhere." Dean grinned. "Well, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."

Aeron smacked Dean's arm.

"Ow what the hell was that for."

"Really, Dean? "

Sam shined his flashlight down on the glass table in front of him. He breathed on the glass and it revealed the same letters on the surface. "Wow. I'd say we've officially crossed over into weird."

"Maybe Giles knew her?"

"Or maybe it's the name of our pale red-eyed mystery girl."

"Well. Let's see what we can see."

SNSNSN

They hadn't found anything after searching through all of the accessible papers and computer files that were in the office.

Sam was at the computer.

Aeron rubbed her face tiredly.

"There's not a single mention of Dana Shulps anywhere. There's not a D. Shulps. Or any other kind of friggin' Shulps." Dean complained.

"Great." Sam said, rubbing his face.

"What have you got?"

"Nothing. No Dana Shulps has ever lived or died in Baltimore in the last fifty years at least."

"What about you?" Dean questioned Aeron. "Sorry. Nothing."

said with a sigh.

"What have you got?"

"Nothing. No Dana Shulps has ever lived or died in Baltimore in the last fifty years at least."

"And you?"

Aeron shook her head. "Nothing. Sorry Dean."

Dean groaned. "So what now?"

"Well, I think I'm pretty close to cracking Giles' password. Maybe there's something in his personal files, you know?" Sam said as he continued to work on the computer.

"By close you mean…"

"Thirty minutes, maybe?"

Dean glanced at his watch. "Awesome. So I guess I just got to, uh, hang out. Awesome." He muttered the last part.

Sam continued to work on the computer.

Dean was annoyed that he had to wait to get the information that he needed. He began to make clicking noises and mouth fart noises.

"Oh come on Dean. Is it really that bad that you have to wait?" Aeron said, looking over at him from where she stood behind Sam.

"Alright, I'm gonna go talk to Karen again, see if she knows anything about Dana Shulps, huh?"

"Great." Sam said, rolling his eyes.

"Keep going, Sparky and Sparkette."

Aeron rolled her eyes. "Whatever Dean."

"He's just picking on you." Sam said as he continued to work.

SNSNSN

"Then Dean went back to Karen's place to check up on her. I mean, you know, she had been pretty upset earlier." Sam explained rubbing his face tiredly.

"So why didn't you two go with him?" Diana asked, looking at both of them.

"We just went back to the motel." Sam looked at her. "How'd you know we were there, by the way?"

"We found the motel matchbook on your brother when we arrested him. Let's quit fooling around. Now you and your girlfriend were with your brother the whole time you were in Baltimore. Why separate now? Because your brother left you two. To go murder Karen."

"He didn't kill anyone." Sam defended his brother.

"Dean may be a lot of things, but he ain't no killer." Aeron said, shaking her head, also defending Dean as well.

Diana hit the table causing Aeron to jump. "I heard the 911 call! Karen was terrified. She said someone was in the house."

SNSNSN

Sheridan sat in the observation room watching Dean.

Diana entered the room. "Are you getting anywhere with him?" She questioned him.

"No. Just a lot of wise-ass remarks. You?" Sheridan asked, looking at her.

"Sam's and Aeron's stories match Dean's to the last detail." She said, crossing her arms.

"Hm. Yeah, well, these three are good. I'll give 'em that."

"If we don't get Sam or Aeron to flip we have nothing, but a lot of circumstantial evidence." Diana said with a sigh.

"Hey. We've got Dean at the crime scene with blood on his hands. Juries have convicted for less."

"Yeah, but, I mean, where's the murder weapon? What's the motive? You talk about reasonable doubt."

"Diana." Sheridan touched her face lightly. "Do you have reasonable doubt? We keep leaning on these three, one of them will tumble. And don't forget about St. Louis. I'm telling you. This Dean guy is our guy."

"I know Tony Giles was a friend of yours."

"Yeah. He was a good friend."

"Look, and I know you want to clean this mess up quickly. But come on, Tony knows a lot of criminal types, I mean, maybe we're just…"

Sheridan looked at her. "Criminal types? He was a defense lawyer, for god sakes, of course he knew criminal types."

"Alright, let's get back at 'em."

"No, you know what? Let 'em stew in their juices for a bit. Come here." He pulled her in for a kiss.

SNSNSN

Dean was in his room upset trying to think of a way to get out of there, but there was no way that he could get out of this. Now his brother and friend were here as well. "Dana Shulps, Dana Shulps, Dana Shulps, Dana Shulps…" He muttered to himself.

SNSNSN

Sam looked at Aeron. "You have paper and a pen?"

Aeron reached into her pocket of her coat that she was wearing and pulled out a small writing pad and pen. "Yeah. Here you go." She handed it over to him.

"Thanks." He said softly, taking them from her.

"What are you thinking Sam?" She questioned coming closer to him.

Sam began to write on the pad. Dana Shulps. He frowned as he wrote.

SNSNSN

Dean's eyes widened. Maybe just maybe they were going about this the wrong way. Maybe it was something else. Maybe Dana Shulps meant something else entirely. "Maybe it's not a name. Maybe it's not a name." He muttered to himself.

SNSNSN

"Anagram, maybe."

"What?" Aeron asked, looking at Sam in confusion.

Sam began to write again.

Aeron looked over his shoulder as he wrote. "I think you're onto something Sam."

SNSNSN

Dean continued to mutter to himself his head was down. He looked up when he heard someone knock on the door.

A middle aged man poked his head into the room. "Mr. Winchester?"

"Yeah."

The man came into the room. "I'm Jeffrey Kraus. I'm with the public defender's office. I'm your lawyer."

"Oh. Thank God. I'm saved." Dean deadpanned. There was no way that this man was going to be able to get him out of here. The only hopes he had were Aeron and Sammy. And sad enough they were stuck here with him as well. He could only hope that they could get out of there.

Kraus sat down.

"Hey could I, uh, steal a pen from you? Some paper?" Dean asked hopefully. He wanted to write down what he was thinking of before the man had come into the room.

"Sure." He said handing over some paper and a pen to him.

Dean began to scribble down what he was thinking. He was hoping that maybe Sam and Aeron had figured it out as well. Perhaps it wasn't just him that thought about this.

"Uh, well, the police haven't found a weapon yet. So that's good. But, uh, they got your prints. And literally blood on your hands. And with your police record, uh…" He saw that Dean wasn't listening to him. "Mr. Winchester? What are you doing?"

Dean didn't look up from the paper. "I think it's an anagram."

"A what?"

"An anagram. Same letters, different words." Dean explained. "Uh, do me a favor? See if you recognize any of these words, you know, local names, places, anything like that?"

"Do you understand how serious these charges are?" Kraus asked again.

"I'm handcuffed to a table. Yeah, I get it. Humor me. Take a quick look."

Kraus pulled the pad over to him to look it over. "Well, SUP, I don't know about that, but Ashland is a street name. Not far from here."

"A street." Dean muttered to himself. Dean took the pad back and tore off a sheet and started writing again.

"Let's start with where you were the night Anthony Giles died."

"Can you get in to see my brother?" He questioned.

"Mr. Winchester, you could be facing the death penalty here."

Hey, thanks for the law review, Matlock. But. If you want to help me…" He held the folded note up to him. "I need you to see my brother and Aeron."

SNSNSN

Sam looked at the note that Dean had sent him.

Aeron looked at it over his shoulder.

"I hope that's meaningful. But I'd like to discuss your case now." Kraus said, looking at the two of them.

Sam gestured to the chair. "Sure thing, Matlock."

"You two really are brothers, aren't you?" He questioned sitting across from Sam. "And your his girlfriend?"

Aeron shook her head. What was up with people thinking that her and Sam were a couple. Did it really look like she was with him?

Kraus sat down across from Sam. "Now. As you know, the DA might be interested in…"

There was a knock on the door. It was Diana. "We need you. With the other one." She told him.

Kraus left the two of them to go with Diana.

Aeron looked at Sam. "Have an idea?" She asked with a smile.

The wheels were turning in his mind. "Yeah. Come on."

SPNSPN

Kraus entered with Diana.

"Counselor? Your boy decided to confess." Sheridan said, looking at Kraus.

"Mr. Winchester? I'd strongly advise against that."

"Talk directly into the camera, first stating your name for the record." Sheridan said to Dean.

Dean cleared his throat and leaned forward looking at the camera that was in front of him. "My name is Dean Winchester. I'm an Aquarius. I enjoy sunsets, long walks on the beach, and frisky women. And I did not kill anyone. But I know who did. Or rather what did. Of course I can't be sure, because the investigation was interrupted. But our working theory was that we're looking for some kind of vengeful spirit."

"Excuse me?" Diana asked in confusion. What the hell was this Winchester going on about?

"You know, Casper the bloodthirsty ghost?"

The people that were watching began to laugh.

"Tony Giles saw it. I'll be your cash money Karen did too. But see, the interesting thing is the word it leaves behind. For some reason it's trying to tell us something. But communicating across the vale, it ain't easy. You know, sometimes spirits, they, they, get things jumbled. You remember Redrum. Sam concept. You know, it's, uh, maybe word fragments… other times, it's anagrams. See, at first we thought it was a name, Dana Shulps. But now we think it's a street. Ashland. Whatever's going on, I'll bet you it started there." Dean spreaded his hand out and smiled.

"You arrogant bastard. Tony and Karen were good people, and you're making jokes." Sheridan hissed at him.

"I'm not joking, Ponch." Dean said, rolling his eyes.

"You murdered them in cold blood just like that girl in St. Louis."

"Oh, yeah. That wasn't me either. That was a shape-shifter creature that only looked like me." He said with a smile.

Sheridan hauled him up by the collar slamming him against the wall.

"Pete, that's enough!" Diana yelled at him.

"You asked for the truth." Dean said in a serious tone.

"Lock his ass up." Sheridan ordered.

Another cop took over shoving Dean face first against the wall handcuffing him.

SNSNSN

Sheridan and Diana returned to the interrogation room that held Sam and Aeron in it. They soon found out that the two hunters were gone.

"What the hell? Where are they?" Sheridan said going to the window which was open. He looked out the window. There was no way that the two of them had gotten out.

Diana picked up the note that was on the table.

"WHat'd they do? The fire escape's way over… what?"

"These three." She handed him the paper.

"Hilts and McQueen?" Sheridan asked in confusion.

"Hilts is Steve McQueen's character in the Great Escape." Diana told him.

SNSNSN

Dean was handcuffed to another table. He hated this. It was becoming ridiculous that he was handcuffed instead of his brother or Aeron. He looked up when Diana entered the room.

She closed the door behind her nervously.

"Can we make this quick? I'm a little tired, it's been a long day, you know, with your partner assaulting me and all." Dean said wanting to rub his face but couldn't.

"I want to know more about that stuff you were talking about earlier." She said softly.

"Time Life. Mysteries of the Unknown. Look it up."

"Let's pretend for a moment you're not entirely insane."

Dean hummed.

"What would one of these things be doing here?"

"A vengeful spirit? Well, they're created by violent deaths. And then they come back for a reason. Usually a nasty one. Like revenge on the people that hurt 'em."

"And uh, these, they're capable of killing people?" She asked, rubbing her neck.

Dean saw that something was wrong with her wrist. "When did you get that?"

Diana pulled her sleeves up to reveal deep bruises. Dean had seen them on Karen's wrists as well. "I don't know. It wasn't there before."

"You've seen it, haven't you? The spirit?"

"How did you know?" She asked with wide eyes.

"Because Karen had the same bruises on her wrists. And I'm willing to bet that if you look at Giles' autopsy photos he's got 'em too, it's got something to do with this spirit, I…. I don't know what."

She turned away looking at the mirror.

"I know. You think you're going crazy. But let's skip that part, shall we? Because the last two people who saw this? Died, pretty soon after. You hear me?"

Diana looked over at him. "You think I'm going to die."

"You need to go to Sam and Aeron. They'll help." Dean told her his tone became more and more serious.

"You're giving your brother and his girlfriend up."

"Go to the first motel listed in the yellow pages. Look for Jim Rockford. It's how we find each other when we're separated. Now you can arrest them if you want. Or you can let them save your life." Dean told her.

SNSNSN

Sam was sitting at the motel desk going through the files.

Aeron was drying her short hair with a towel. She looked at the door when she heard a knock on the door. "You stay there Sam." She said softly walking over to the door. She opened it and saw Diana. Her eyes widened. No they couldn't be going to jail again. She already hated being in this city and wanted to get out of there and the hell out of dodge.

Diana shrugged her shoulders and came into the walked over to Sam as Aeron closed the door. She showed her wrists to the two of them.

Aeron raised her eyebrow. Now this was a turn in events really.

"These showed up after you saw it?"

"Yeah, I guess."

"There's no guessing on this." Aeron said looking at the woman.

Sam nodded his head in agreement to what Aeron had said. "You're going to have to tell us exactly what you saw."

"You know, I must be losing my mind. You're fugitives. I should be arresting you two."

Aeron rolled her eyes.

"Alright. Well, you know what? You can arrest us later, alright? After you lived through this. But right now you've gotta talk to us. Okay?"

Diana nodded her head.

"Great now that's outta the way. Sam." Aeron said with a nod of her head.

"Now, this spirit. What did it look like?" He asked, looking at Diana.

"She was, um, really pale, and her throat was cut, and her eyes, they were like, this deep dark red? It appeared like she was trying to talk to me. But she couldn't. It was just… a lot of blood." Diana explained to them.

"You know what? Here. I've been researching every girl that's ever died or gone missing from Ashland Street." He brought her over to a table where he gathered up the crime scene photos.

"How'd you get those? Those are from crime scenes, and booking photos."

"You have your job, I have mine. Here. I need you to look through these, tell me if you recognize anyone."

Diana sat down and began to look at the photos. She stopped at the third picture. "This is her. I'm sure of it."

"Claire Becker? Twenty eight years old, disappeared about eight or nine months ago."

"But I don't know her. I mean, why would she come after me?"

"Well, before her death, she was arrested twice. For dealing heroin. Have you ever worked narcotics?"

"Yeah, Pete and I did. Before Homicide."

"Have you ever beaten her?" Aeron asked softly.

"Not that I remember." Diana said, shaking her head.

"It says that she was last seen entering 2911 Ashland Street. Police searched the place, but didn't find anything. Guess we gotta check it out ourselves. See if we can find her body." Sam told Diana.

"What?"

"Well, we gotta salt and burn her bones. It's the only way to put her spirit to rest."

"Of course it is."

"We're not kidding." She looked at Sam. "Shall we get the items that we need packed up?"

Sam nodded his head. "Yeah."

SPNSPN

Aeron and Sam lead Diana into a dark and creepy warehouse.

"Ugh. I really hate places like this." Aeron said, rubbing her jacket clad arms.

"So what exactly are we looking for?" Diana asked the two of them.

"I'll let you know when we find it." Sam said heading up the stairs.

Aeron stayed with Diana.

Diana looked at Aeron. "So you have been doing this for a long time?" She questioned Aeron.

Aeron shined the flashlight around to see if there was anything that she could see. She let out a soft sigh. "Longer than I care to admit. I would say over ten years."

Diana nodded her head. She turned and let out a gasp. There stood Claire. "Sam? Sam? Sam!"

Aeron whipped around not seeing Claire.

Sam came running down the stairs. "Hey! Hey, I'm here, what is it? What happened?"

"Claire…"

"Where?" Sam asked, looking around.

"I didn't see her." Aeron said, shaking her head.

"She, she was here." Diana told them her voice was shaking slightly.

"Did she attack you?" Sam questioned growing concern.

"no. No, she was just like, reaching out to me. She was over there by the window." She moved over to the window that had been blocked by a shelving unit. "Here, help me move this."

"Alright." The two hunters said walking over to her to help her move the shelf.

They shoved the shelves aside revealing the window.

"Oh wow." Aeron said looking at the window.

"Our little mystery word." Diana said softly.

They turned to see the shadow on the opposite wall casting the words into clear reflection on it.

Sam chuckled lightly to himself. "Now the extra letters make sense."

Aeron nodded her head. "Got your reader with you?" She questioned the tall Winchester.

Sam nodded his head and pulled out his EMF reader. He slowly went to the wall.

"What is that?" Diana asked in confusion.

"That's an EMF reader." Aeron explained. God she really hated explaining things to people that weren't hunters.

"Spirits and certain remains give off electromagnetic frequencies." Sam rambled out smartly.

Aeron smiled. At least he did a little bit better than she did with people.

"So if Claire's body was here, that would indicate that?" Diana asked in even more confusion. She wanted to make sure that she was hearing this right from the two hunters.

"Yeah. Well, that's the theory." His EMF reader purred as he waved it over the brick wall. He turned.

Aeron handed him a sledge. "Here."

"Thanks." He slammed it on the wall a few times making a sizable hole. He shined his flashlight inside. "Yeah. Yeah, there's definitely something in there." He finished breaking the wall with well placed elbows and fist punches. "You know? This is bothering me."

"Well, you are digging up a corpse."

Aeron shook her head. "I don't think he meant that."

"She's right. That's, uh, that's pretty par for the course, actually."

"Then what is it?" Diana asked in confusion.

"It's just, I mean, no vengeful spirit I've ever tussled with wanted to be wasted. So why the hell would Claire lead us to her remains? It doesn't make any sense." He had most of the wall down now. "Alright Aeron. Give me a hand."

"Of course Sam." She said walking over to him.

The two of them pulled out a body wrapped up out of the wall and placed it on the ground.

Sam pulled out his pocket knife and he cut the ropes holding the wrapping closed. He uncovered her body.

Diana showed him her wrists again.

"Her wrists." Aeron said softly.

"Yeah, they'd be bruised just like yours?"

Diana noticed a necklace on the corpse. She touched it cautiously.

"That necklace mean something to you?" Sam questioned her.

"I've seen it before. It's rare. It was custom made over on Carson Street." Diana explained to the two hunters. She reached into her neckline and pulled out her necklace. "I have one just like it. Pete gave it to me."

Aeron scoffed. "Sounds like we've come across something."

Sam nodded his head. "Now this all makes perfect sense."

"I'm sorry?" Diana asked in confusion looking at the two hunters.

"Yeah. You see, Claire is not a vengeful spirit, she's a death omen." Sam explained to Diana.

"Excuse me?"

Aeron shook her head. "Claire isn't killing anyone."

"Right. She's trying to warn them. You see, sometimes spirits, they don't want vengeance, they want justice. Which is why she led us here in the first place. She wants us to know who her killer is." Sam said with a smile. "Detective, how much do you know about your partner?"

"Oh my god." Diana said, realizing some.

"What?" The two hunters asked in confusion this time.

"About a year ago, some heroin went missing from lockup. Obviously it was a cop. We never found out who did it. But whoever did it would need someone to fence their product." Diana told them.

"Someone like a heroin dealer. Somebody like Claire."

SNSNSN

Sheridan is driving an armored van with Dean in the back.

"So I'm being extradited to St. Louis, huh? And you just decided to transfer me yourself, eight hundred miles? At two in the morning. This can't be good." Dean knew it wasn't good because Aeron and Sam wouldn't be able to find him. He was worried about the two of them not being able to find him.

SNSNSN

Diana is driving Sam and Aeron down the road. "Alright. Thanks." She hung up her phone.

"What is it?" Sam asked concerned. He was hoping that it wasn't about his brother.

"Pete just left the precinct. With Dean."

"Damn it." Aeron muttered to herself. "That's not what I wanted to hear."

"You're kidding." Sam said, looking over at Diana.

"He said the prisoner had to be transferred, and he just took him. Dispatch has been calling, but he won't answer the radio."

"Radio? He took a county vehicle?" Sam asked in confusion.

"Yeah."

"Well, then they should have a lojack, you've just gotta get it turned on." Sam explained to her.

SNSNSN

Sheridan pulled the van off of the road and stopped.

"Pee break? So soon? You might want to get your prostate checked." Dean said in a smartass comment.

Sheridan got out of the van and went around to the back.

"Son of a bitch." Dean muttered to himself. His eyes widened when he saw the door open. "Hey,I'm cool in the van, you go do what you gotta do."

Sheridan hauled Dean out of the van and threw him to the ground. "You're a cocky son of a bitch. You think those people in Saint Louis are gonna buy that crap you're pedaling? Here's the thing. You're not gonna make it to Saint Louis. You're gonna die trying to escape." He pulled out his gun and pointed it at Dean's head.

"Wait! Wait. Let's talk about this. I mean, you don't want to do something that you're gonna regret later."

Sheridan cocked the gun.

Dean swallowed the lump in his throat. "Or maybe you do."

"Pete put the gun down!" Diana yelled pointing her gun at him.

"Diana? How'd you find me?" Sheridan asked, looking at her. He saw that Dean's brother Sam was there and so was that small girl. That angered him a lot.

"I know about Claire."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Put the gun down!"

"Oh, I don't think so. You're fast. I'm pretty sure I'm faster."

"Why are you doing this?" Diana asked in confusion.

"I didn't do anything, Diana."

"It's a little late for that."

"It wasn't my fault. Claire was trying to turn me in, I had no choice."

"And Tony? Karen?"

"Same thing. Tony scrubbed the money, he got skittish, and then he wanted to come clean. I'm sure he told Karen everything."

Dean glanced at Aeron and Sam. He saw the look that Sam had on his face. He shook his head.

Sam gritted his teeth.

Aeron closed her eyes. This was going down in a bad way.

"It was a mess. I had to clean it up. I just panicked." Sheridan said softly.

"How many more people are gonna die over this, Pete?" Diana said not lowering her gun at all.

"There's a way out. This Dean kid's a friggin' gift. We could pin the whole thing on him. Right? No trail, nothing. Just, just one more dead scumbag."

"Hey!" Dean yelled.

Sheridan raised the gun.

Dean backed off.

"You seem to be forgetting one thing, asshole." Aeron said with narrowed eyes seething.

Sam pulled her to him not risking her to make a mistake.

"Oh the brother and his brother's pesky girlfriend. No one would believe you." Sheridan said, narrowing his eyes at them. He looked at Diana. "No one will question it. Diana, please. I still love you."

She began to lower the gun.

"Thank you. Thank you." He turned his attention back to Dean.

She brought the gun back up and fired, shooting him in the stomach.

Sheridan went down onto the ground.

Dean rolled out of the way.

"Then why don't you buy me another necklace, you ass?"

He tackled her legs bringing her down causing her to lose the gun.

Sam and Aeron tried to aim on getting the gun, but they weren't quick enough.

"Don't do it! Don't do it!"

Diana stared past Sheridan.

Sheridan looked behind him.

Claire smiled.

Bang!

Diana had recovered a weapon and she had shot him in the back.

Sheridan went down this time permanently.

Diana kneeled next to Sheridan's body. She shook her head and got up. She walked over to the three hunters.

"You doin' alright?" Sam asked her softly.

"Not really. That death omen Claire. What happens to her now?" Diana asked curiously.

"Should be over. She should be at rest." Sam replied.

"So, uh. What now, officer?" Dean questioned Diana.

"Pete did confess to me. He screwed up your cases royally. I'd say that there's a good chance we could get your cases dismissed." Diana answered Dean's question honestly.

"You'd take care of that for us?" Sam asked in confusion.

"I hope so. But the Saint Louis murder charges? That's another story. I can't help you. Unless… I just happened to turn my back, and you walked away. I could just tell them that the suspects escaped."

"Wait, are you sure?"

"Yeah, she's sure, Sam." Dean said looking at his younger brother.

"Sam, don't look a gifted horse in the mouth." Aeron said, shaking her head.

"No, it's just, I mean, you could lose your job over something like that." Sam said in concern.

"Look, I just want you guys out there doing what you do best. Trust me, I'll sleep better at night." She turned to walk away. "LIsten, you need to watch your back. They're gonna be looking for the three of you right now. Get out of here. I gotta radio this in."

"Hey, uh, you wouldn't happen to know where my car is by chance?" Dean asked, looking at her.

"It's at the impound year down on Robertson." She saw the look in Dean's eyes. "Don't… even think about it."

"It's okay, it's alright, don't worry. We'll, uh, we'll just improvise. I mean, we're pretty good at that." Sam said with a smile.

"Yeah. I've noticed."

The three of them began to walk away from Diana and her dead partner.

"Nice lady." Sam said, sticking his hands in his pockets.

"Yeah, for a cop. Did she look familiar to you?" Dean questioned.

"No, why?" Sam shoved Dean playfully.

"I don't know. Anyway, are you hungry?"

"No."

"What about you hot head?"

Aeron rolled her eyes. "Nope lost my appetite."

"For some reason I could really go for some pea soup."

Aeron shook her head. "And I got a plan."

"For what?" Sam asked in confusion.

"To get Dean's car."

"I knew I liked you for a reason." Dean said with a smile.

"What would ya do without me?"

This is the end of Chapter 8 of Temporary Home. Please leave a review and let me know what you think. I will try to have the next chapter up shortly. I know I have quite a bit of ways to go. Please let me know what you think of this so far. I hope that Aeron is still likable. I am trying not to make her too much of a firecracker. Until next time.
