Chapter 14

I woke up face down in familiar white sheets. I knew this smell. I was back in the infirmary again. I couldn't even heal myself. I had no energy, despite having just woken up. I managed to roll over onto my side. I was alone in the room. Something I was grateful for, but I needed to know what was going on.

"Hello!" I called out.

It hurt even to yell. The door opened seconds later. Aizawa was standing there. I could see some of the other students behind him. Were they waiting out there for me to wake up?

He stepped in, along with a man covered in flames. He looked down at me. I could tell he was not a fan of mine. They stepped in closing the door behind them. Aizawa flooded his hands and gave me a stern look.

Here it comes.

"You could have been killed Yami." he scolded.

"I'm sorry. I fell for his trap. I couldn't stop myself." I bit the inside of my cheek. "I wanted to kill him. Using Shigaraki's quirk, made me feel so dirty… I felt like a monster. What if I hadn't been able to stop myself? What If I had lost control? I could have hurt someone... or even killed one of you. I don't ever want to do that to anyone again." I whispered.

Aizawa sighed. "As long as you're alive that is all that matter, but you cannot do this to yourself again. Using that many quirks without training with them almost killed you. Do you understand?"

I nodded. "Is it true?" I asked, getting choked up. "Is he really my father?"

"We do not know. That is what we need to find out. There is no reason for All for one to lie, but we should not take his word for it. We need you to take us back to your island. Back to Hitozatohanareta. We need to speak to any family that you have. Maybe they can give some insight onto this situation. Is there anyone like that?"

"My grandmother… but I don't think she'll ever talk to me again. I'm not sure I want to see her either."

"That is a chance we are going to have to take. You have to put your feelings aside." the man said sternly.

I swallowed hard and nodded.

"Endeavor," Aizawa warned. "What he meant to say that is we still have to try. Sooner than later. So as soon as you are healed.-"

I quickly sat up, mustering up whatever energy I could, and healed myself. I thought everything was alright but felt something dripping from my nose. I touched it, looking at my fingertips. It was red. My nose was bleeding. I had pushed myself too far again. I was healed physically but I was still strained. I was feeling dizzy. Aizawa set his hand on my shoulder, trying to steady me. He plucked a tissue from the box, wiping my nose.

"No more using any of your quirks, until you are better."

I nodded.

"Alright. Get your rest. We'll come back another time."

I laid down and he covered me with the blanket patting my head. I watched them leave. I could hear him telling the students that they had to leave and that they would have to see me another time. I snuggled up to my pillow.

Some more rest sounded great right about now.

I woke up feeling refreshed, with an IV in my arm. I felt like I had slept my life away. My hair was a mess. I felt dried drool on my chin, which I tried to wipe away. Not to mention the nasty taste in my mouth. I swung my legs off of the bed. The hospital door swung open making me jump. It was the woman I had seen, the day Aizawa had taken me to UA. She was in the same outfit oo. It must have been the hero costume. She was beautiful and she looked strong too. She had more muscles than most men. She had the prettiest hair I had ever seen. I didn't see a lot of people that looked like me. It was nice. I was just in complete awe of this woman.

Was this what they called a girl crush?

She smiled at me, and that is when I noticed she had a duffle bag in her hand. She stepped inside closing the door behind her.

She put her hand on her hip. "So exactly how are you feeling?"

"M-me!? I feel great." I blurted out.

I mean I wasn't lying. I did feel a lot better.

"Great." She said tossing the bag to me. I opened it seeing my costume inside it.

"Get dressed, you've been asleep for about a week so you should be."

"Are we going somewhere?"

She walked over to me handing me something. "You have been assigned to me."

I looked down at the card in my hand. "A Provisional hero license?"

When did they even take this picture of me?

She nodded. "You must really be something special if you're able to skip the line like this. Kids like you only get a license like this when they've earned it by taking the exam. I can't wait to see exactly what you can do." She'd said holding her hand out to me.

"Rumi Usagiyama, but everyone calls me Mirko."

"Yami Hikari." I said.

I took her hand and shook it, and again I had copied another quirk. I should have asked permission first, but I couldn't help myself. She was amazing and I wanted to be just like her.

We walked side by side on the street. People stared and marveled at us, especially the children. They mostly looked at Mirko which made sense, but people were looking at me too. I guess I held a certain kind of mystery to me. No one had ever seen me before. It felt good to be recognized, kind of. I wonder if they thought I was a hero too instead of a student.

"Mirko, what exactly are we doing?"

"We're patrolling. Us being here is helping. Small-time villains tend to commit fewer crimes when we're present, but some idiots still try."

There was a scream. We both looked in the direction of the scream. A woman's purse was just snatched.

"Wanna take this one?" she asked

I smiled taking off after the criminal zooming down the street. I flew up behind him. I spun around kicking him in the back. The purse flew up in the air, and I caught it landing on the ground. He had flown farther than I had expected him to. Mirko's quirk was really something.. He was now unconscious sticking out the side of a building. Mirko came up beside me.

"So, you copied my quirk," she said with a smile.

I handed the purse back to the woman and she bowed and ran along. I turned back to Mirko and wrung my hands.

"I'm sorry," I said shyly.

She smiled brightly at me. "Don't worry about it. You recognized what a great quirk I have. "She said smugly. She rested her hand on my shoulder. "You and I are gonna get along just fine Yami."
