Chapter 33
"All right, Tressa, here we go. Are you ready to see your baby and hear the heartbeat?" Doctor Matthews asked with a smile on her face, not minding the two giant behemoths in the room with them. She only asked that they remain silent throughout this portion of it.
Each man was on either side of her, holding her hand and Tressa could already feel the draw to Drew far more than Jon. She was still happy they were both here with her as the wand was inserted inside of her, making her shut her eyes briefly. It was not the most comfortable thing in the world, but it had to be done to check the baby. Doctor Matthews checked various things and pointed at the little blip on the screen, which was the baby.
"You're almost at 8 weeks along, according to your last menstrual cycle and what I'm seeing here now. That's about how big a baby is supposed to be at 8 weeks – no more than the size of a bean." The screen was moving and she pointed at the little heartbeat, the sound resonating around the room. "Sounds very healthy – it's at a steady 155 right now, but that can change the bigger the baby gets."
"Oh my god…" Tressa had lost her first baby at 8 weeks and now she was hearing her second baby's heartbeat around her, tears sliding down her cheeks. "S-So it's healthy? E-Everything looks good and…normal?"
The doctor smiled, nodding. "Yes. I will print out a picture for you to take home and, if you want, I can record the heartbeat for you and put it in a small device." This was the same doctor who had informed her of the miscarriage, so it was nice to see her patient was pregnant again, even if it was between two devilishly handsome men.
"Okay, thank you, Doctor Matthews."
Removing the wand, after recording the heartbeat, she handed over a towel for Tressa to clean off with and grabbed the chart. "I'll give you guys a minute alone."
She walked out, closed the door behind her, and went to retrieve the pictures as well as the heartbeat device. Technically, an ultrasound technician was supposed to do the ultrasound, but since Doctor Matthews knew Tressa, she wanted to personally do it. Doctors could perform ultrasounds themselves, if they wanted to. It just depended on the practice.
The size of a bean…how could she love something that tiny? Tressa took the tissue Drew handed to her while Jon helped her sit up a little on the bedding, his hand on her back. "Are you guys okay?" She asked, looking at Jon and then at Drew, wondering what was going through their minds at the moment.
"That was the most awkward thing ever." Jon wasn't squeamish, but standing in this tiny ass room with another man, and her getting some weird rod shoved up her cooch…felt even odder than knowing both he and the Scotsman had been in said cooch.
He wasn't even trying to make eye contact with Drew right now.
Andrew was most appreciative of that, clearing his throat. "So a bean, eh?"
"How can something THAT small have such a strong, steady heartbeat?"
They were both staring down at her now, Jon looking amused while Drew was thoughtful. There was a definite danger here. There was a chance they could fall in love with this baby, only to wind up with their hopes dashed.
"You got me. I have no idea."
Tressa was thinking along the same lines as Drew and frowned, looking down at her stomach with furrowed brows. Swinging her legs over, Tressa grabbed her clothes from the chair and walked into the bathroom, connected to the room, to get dressed. So many different emotions flowed through her at once and she sighed heavily, staring into the mirror while caressing her stomach affectionately. A few minutes later, she walked out just as Doctor Matthews came back with the heartbeat device, the pictures of the ultrasound, and a bag of things like pamphlets and a book she really wanted her patient to read.
"Thanks." She turned to Jon and handed him a picture before doing the same to Drew, chewing her bottom lip. "We can go now."
"Straight home?" Jon asked, wondering what now. Both he and Andrew had been unexpected visitors so to speak and this had definitely fulfilled his quota of awkward and uncomfortable for the month. "Actually, darlin', as fun as this is, I'm going to hit the road. I got media this afternoon." Which was totally true, and now he'd just be a few hours early. He pulled Tressa into his arms for a tight hug. "Not to mention, this is just a whole new level of uncomfortable, even by my loose standards." He grinned down at her before planting a kiss on her forehead. "Let me know if you need anything, and when your next appointment is. I don't want to hear about it from the skirt wearer."
"It's a kilt, lad, a kilt."
"Jon…" Her tone held warning, though it was playful as she hugged him back. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you about the appointment myself." Her arms were tightened around his neck as she spoke in his ear softly, slowly pulling back to look into his pale blues. "Thank you for being here today. Now go kick ass in your media appearances."
Tressa kissed his cheek, knowing he was a heel now, so those media appearances would be a lot of fun. Drew was also a heel, but Jon had recently turned and was rolling with it, having a blast feuding with Colby. She watched him walk to his car and turned to look up at Drew, cracking a smile.
"Do you have to leave too?" Normally, Wednesday and Thursday were their days off, but sometimes, especially at the end of the year, WWE tried to push as many appearances and media on the superstars before their two-week-long holiday vacation, which included double-booked shows.
"No, I don't." Drew snorted when Jon turned to flip him the double bird, shaking his head. "He's a mature one." Thank God, Jon Good was one of a kind. He didn't think the world would be able to stand multiples of the eccentric bastard. Whatever she saw in him, he couldn't even begin to fathom, it had to be a female thing. "I've got to ride back to the apartment with you anyway, lass, my car is there." Not that he was planning on leaving right away, not unless she wanted him to. "Eager to get rid of me?" He teased, realizing that could be a possibility.
"He's definitely one in a million, maybe even a billion. And no, I don't want you to leave. I was hoping you'd stay."
Tressa hadn't spent a lot of time with Drew recently due to his busy schedule and she was hesitant because of the pregnancy. They hadn't shared a hotel room in a while, ever since she told him about the baby in the first place. Not that she blamed him. She slid her hands up his arms to rest on his shoulders, standing on her tiptoes to reach him since he towered over her.
"If you want…you could stay the night. I have a big enough bed, I think." It was queen-sized, so maybe he'd have to curl his legs up and she tried not to giggle at the mental image in her head.
"That means nothing and ye ken, lass." He usually got king-sized just so he could lay sideways since that was where the actual variation in size was. "Ye have to come to my place sometime and see a proper bed." Width and length, it easily accommodated him and it was worth every penny he had spent on his custom-made monstrosity. "Come on, let's get outta this wet before ye catch sick, ye can wheedle me some more in the car." He teased, cupping the back of her head with a palm before bending down to brush his lips against hers.
Tressa purred against his lips with a grin, rubbing her nose gently against his when he pulled back and slipped inside the car, buckling up. "Your place in Tampa or Scotland?" When he said either or, she wondered what it would be like to go to Scotland. Ayr, Scotland, to be precise. That was where he originated from. Granted, Tressa had been overseas before with the WWE, but never got to truly experience any of the towns or cities or countries, in general. "I'd like that. I wouldn't mind seeing your place. I know mine is tiny, that's one of the reasons why I'm moving and getting out of here." Drew took her hand while he pulled out of the parking spot and drove off, their fingers lacing together.
"Scotland is wet, but it's beautiful. I won't lie, I like Florida, there's more sunshine." His home country was beautiful, no doubt about it, but she was also fickle about the weather. Summer seemed to be so short-lived and even then, the rain came and went. It was nothing for everything to be continuously damp. "I understand wanting a bigger place, but is wherever ye going where ye plan on making ye life permanently?"
"Probably, yeah. I don't see myself moving with a baby again and I'm going to do it before I get too far along in my pregnancy to where I can't lift anything heavy. I really like Texas for some reason and I've looked up a couple of places there. Haven't really had much time to do more than that."
Tressa would have to make time for it because the clock was ticking and time wasn't slowing down for her. She was already almost 2 months along, only 8 more to go and there was a lot she wanted to do once she moved into her new place. Getting the baby nursery set up for one.
"Why do you ask, Andrew? What's going through that handsome Scottish mind of yours?"
"I was just thinking is all, about when you do find out who the father is, lass." He said thoughtfully, wondering why in the name of everything holy would she want to live in arid heat. Either way, regardless of which man it was, they were in for quite a trip to see said child when they had the time, bouncing between their respective homes and balancing life on the road. That was going to be…problematic, actually. Only having a few days off, needing to go home to get fresh things, and then rushing to spend maybe a couple of hours at best with the wee one…he frowned.
"Andrew, there is a test I can have done with you, Jon, and the baby to determine who the father is, but it's…it's dangerous. It's risky. And I don't want to take a risk or put the baby in danger just to find out if it's you or Jon. It's not like I'm quitting WWE after I have the baby." That made him look over at her while stopped at a red light and she smiled tentatively up at him. "I'm going to be on the road with the baby. I'm not giving up my career just because I'm becoming a mother. So, regardless if it's you or Jon, you'll still see me almost on a daily basis except when we have our days off, unless we spend them together. I haven't figured everything out yet, but Stephanie did it and other women who work for the company have done it too." She placed her other hand over their laced ones and pointed at the upcoming supermarket they were approaching. "Stop here. I need to grab a few things." Ham with pineapple and cottage cheese sounded delicious.
Once parked, Drew stopped her from getting out of the car. "Actually, Tressa… there is another way to determine who the father is." He said quietly. Apparently, this was something both he and Jon had looked into, which told him they both were having issues or something. "It's non-invasive and nowhere near as barbaric as drawing amniotic fluid. It's a simple blood draw." Which she would get done routinely anyway. "And swabs from us. They check for fetal DNA in your plasma, lass, and compare that to ours." And it could be done as early as 8 weeks. Modern medicine had come a very, very long way.
"What?" Tressa blinked, not remembering Doctor Matthews telling her about this test, and could see the seriousness in his ocean blues. He wanted to know who the father was. He wanted to know if this was his baby, his DNA. Jon wanted to know as well, but she'd been terrified of the test with the amniotic fluid. "How accurate is it?" She asked quietly, shutting her eyes when he said 99%. She would be 8 weeks next week, which was the week of Christmas and all of the Superstars had a full week off. "All right, I'll set it up. I'll text Jon and let him know what's going on and that he needs to be here next week, same as you, to do the test." A blood test or cheek swab was nothing to her; it was completely safe for the baby and she had nothing to really lose besides possibly one of these men.
He hadn't been expecting the relief that he felt, nodding as he closed his eyes and leaned back in the seat. It had been anxiety-inducing, knowing that they would have to wait that long to find out who the father was. He knew damn well both he and Jon were the ones at risk of having something broken if they bonded with this unborn child, only to not be the father. He was hoping to spare himself that pain and wasn't surprised at all that Jon had jumped on that chance.
"All right, Tressa," He leaned over, cupping her face in his massive hands, and kissed her gently. "Thank ye."
"Yeah, sure." Tressa pulled away from him and stepped out of the car, not sure why her heart was suddenly clenching painfully in her chest. That was a weird feeling to have after hearing her baby's heartbeat for the first time. What the hell? "I'm grabbing a ham with pineapple and cottage cheese, in case you were wondering." She informed him once he joined her and they walked into the store to grab what she wanted, a couple of things for Drew as well.
An hour later, they were back at the apartment and Tressa stopped just outside her door, turning to look up at Drew again. "If this is your baby, Andrew, I think it would be best if I moved to Tampa, so even on your days off, you're close to us and it won't be an issue for you to come see us." And if it was Jon's baby…Her new home would have to be Vegas since that was where he lived. "Are you all right with that?"
"And Vegas if it's Jon's?" He asked, not surprised when she nodded and returned it. "Aye lass, if that's what ye wanna do."
He raised her hand up, dropping a kiss to her cold knuckles. Drew felt no connection with that 'bean' in her stomach and he supposed that was natural. Most men from his understanding didn't until there was physical, showing proof, but even then…there was the added factor of 'it might not be mine'. He still wasn't sure how he felt about potentially being a Daddy, perhaps it would all become real to him once they knew for certain.
Drew did wonder if she had a preference, him or Jon?
