Invisible String
Chapter 28
Weeks later
Lucas had the life he had waited so long for. Brooke and him. Had their family and the couple were holding out hope to be growing their family in the near future.
Landon and Langston were adjusting to life in Tree Hill and their school better then their parents expected which was a relief.
Lucas and Brooke had a story awaiting them everyday when their sons were picked up from school.
They had a routine. Breakfast at 6am as a family then dinner at night at 7pm.
Langston and Landon were allowed two hours of screen time once a week.
...
Lucas ran his hands through his hair. His career was doing so well.
His editor was insisting on a book tour. He was unsure he wanted or needed to take this time away.
...
Brooke was angry and exhausted. She couldn't stand to look at her body. And no longer wanted to be touched.
She was so frustrated that the pregnancy tests kept coming out negative she threw them away.
...
Brooke threw herself into work and her sons.
When Brooke awoke one morning feeling sick to her stomach.
At some point she awoke.
Dazed and her body ached all over.
Lucas had found her in the bathroom.
Lucas watched over her. Cautious and nervous.
"What brought this on.? You've been busy and stressed with work."
Brooke looked to her husband.
"I need a pregnancy test." She insisted.
Lucas wanted her to stay in bed and not move.
As he left the home to go to the closest drug store he could find.
Once he returned. Brooke got out of bed and took the test.
She washed her hands and paced outside the bathroom door.
"We'll be okay. No matter what the test says." He reassured her.
Brooke heard the timer on her cellphone go off.
She walked over to the bathroom and stared down at the pregnancy test.
She read the results. Swallowed hard. Then walked back over to where her husband stood.
"I'm pregnant!" Brooke exclaimed. The emotion in her voice spilling over.
Lucas engulfed her into a hug. Clinging tightly to her.
Brooke sobbed into her husband's chest.
Relief. Happiness. Overjoyed.
When they pulled apart. He leaned over. Putting his hand on her stomach.
Brooke's smile beamed.
