Chapter 34

authors note : I love hearing you're thoughts and theories. Thank you for the support my readers. Emotional gut punch on the way.

It's just hard to see into someone's heart.

Even when you think you know them.

Better then anyone.

Lucas focused on his work. His writing. He had the writing team to bounce of ideas. He met his needed deadlines.

When he got home. Langston and Langston gave their ideas for dinner.

They were each allowed to pick for one day during the week.

He found refuge and peace within the world he created within his novels.

...

Brooke was distracted. Her store. Her family.

She found a safe place to land with her friends.

And Karen remained a sounding board for Brooke.

She didn't pick sides she listened and gave advice.

Even though her son wasn't confiding in her these days.

...

Nathan pulled the covers over his brother. Then left the guest room.

He had gotten calls from various bartenders around town. Asking for Lucas to be picked up.

Something was going on with him.

And no one especially Brooke knew what.

...

Weeks Later

At 14 weeks pregnant. Brooke had officially entered the honeymoon phase of her pregnancy.

Her bump was popping out more and she was able to eat and not feel sick. This should be a joy filled exciting time.

But it wasn't that.

Brooke waited for Lucas. In the entryway of their home.

"I cannot and will not keep going on like this!"

"You're going to talk to me!" Brooke proclaimed.

"I don't want to get into this." Lucas replied.

"You were so excited and happy when you found out we were pregnant. What changed.?"

"Please stop shutting me out." Brooke pleaded.

It all had been building up in Lucas. The fear. The stress. The unknown.

Especially when Brooke told him they were having a girl.

The idea of a mini Brooke made his heart.

But in that same breath he felt himself panic.

Consumed with worry and concern in a way he never experienced with his sons.

He didn't know how to properly express that so he didn't.

"I need to leave." Lucas announced.

Brooke's head was racing. Her heart pounding.

Before turning from her and going into his office.

...

Brooke planned to confront Lucas about all of this in the morning.

The pregnancy and being drained emotionally and mentally made sleep the only choice.

When she awoke. She didn't find Lucas.

His belongings were gone.

Brooke felt sick. She couldn't process what this meant.

She called him and texted him and wouldn't pick up.

Her stomach doing flips.

...

"You are now leaving Tree Hill." The airplane pilot announced.

Lucas felt the tension and stress start to let go.
