Invisible String
Chapter 35
authors note : I know i left all of you reeling angry and confused by Lucas's choices. I assure you. He's not pulling a Dan Scott.
Days Later
For all of the light that I shut out
For all of the innocent things that I doubt.
For all the sparks that I stomped out
For all of the perfect things that I doubt
I'll be good,
Brooke had decided to keep Langston and Landon home from school for the past few days.
She had to lie to them and explained their dad had a last minute business trip he needed to leave for.
And that was why he didn't say goodbye.
Given their ages and lack of experience with Lucas needing to go away. They didn't question it after that to their mother's relief.
As for Brooke. She was beside herself. She hadn't told anyone close to them that Lucas left.
She was trying to protect him. Give him a chance to resuface and explain himself.
Which happened. When she pulled into the parking lot of her store and found him waiting for her.
"Daddy!" Landon and Langston exclaimed happily.
They rushed towards their father.
Lucas engulfed them into a tight hug.
"Boys go inside and wait for me." Brooke instructed. As she unlocked and opened the front door to her store.
Once they were inside.
Brooke glared at her husband. Her hands on her baby bump.
"I called. And texted so many times i lost count."
"I went from worried and panicked to angry and livid."
"What did i do! You left."
"How could you leave us like that.? Those boys need you."
"I need you. We need you." Brooke proclaimed. The emotion in her voice thick. Welling up in her eyes.
A hurt expression flashed across Lucas's face.
"I'm sorry. I didn't feel like i could open up andbe honest."
"With how i was feeling so i just shut down and i needed to get away."
"Clear my head. I'm not proud of my actions."
"I'm so sorry. Please this was a moment of weakness." Lucas replied.
He attempted to reach for her.
And she moved away.
"Don't i can't do this right now." Brooke replied.
"I'll take the boys home with me. I have to unpack anyway."
"Then you focus on work. Once you get home we can really talk."
"Get through this. I'm not going anywhere without you and our family. I promise." Lucas proclaimed.
"No need. I've got it. Our sons. Our daughter."
"Go home Lucas or wherever you consider that now." Brooke replied. Turning from him as she entered her store.
