Invisible String
Chapter 36
authors note : Let me know what you think readers.?
I've been having a hard time adjusting.
I didn't know if you'd care if I came back.
maybe I don't quite know what to say
But I'm here in your doorway.
Later on that day
Brooke brought the pizza boxes inside the home. She had given Langston the dessert and Landon the large drink.
Which is the only reason they weren't rushing inside.
"I've got it boys. Could you set the table for us.?" Lucas asked.
And with that Langston and Landon were off.
Out of the entryway down the short hallway. And straight into the kitchen.
"I am capable of bringing the pizzas into the kitchen myself." Brooke said.
"I'm just trying to help. I want to talk. We need to deal with this." Lucas replied.
"I need answers Lucas and will get them. But our sons don't need to know you weren't on a business trip and choose to leave." Brooke proclaimed.
The family ate. While Langston and Landon filled their dad in on all they did while he was on his business trip.
Lucas listened closely and very engaged.
But he could feel the tension on coldness from Brooke.
...
"I don't want to fight. I don't like raising voices and the back and forth."
"It reminds me too much of how i grew up. I refuse to have our children raised in such a turmoil filled environment." Brooke stated matter of fact.
The expression on Lucas's face softened. He knew all too well the dynamic and fighting and lack of stability and peace Brooke had known all her life.
Because of her parents. In response to that fighting was something she avoided. It brought up alot for her when things got dark.
He could only imagine how she felt waking up and seeing him gone.
"I know. I'll tell you anything you want to know." Lucas insisted.
"Where did you go.?" Brooke asked.
"The place Keith and I stayed at when we left town during high school. I hadn't gone there in a long time. It's a two bedroom. Older house. Away from everything. Close to the water."
"There isn't enough room for all our kids. Which is why i hadn't brought it up. I don't get reception up there."
"I'm sorry. I didn't know how to properly express how i felt about the baby and i pulled away. I'm so sorry." Lucas said.
"I was spotting. I thought. I was losing her."
"That's why i was calling and texting so much."
"Everything going on with us caused all this stress. And turmoil i wasn't dealing with."
"I was cramping and bleeding."
"I went to the hospital alone and got an ultrasound."
"I needed my husband and you weren't there." Brooke said. Her voice breaking with emotion as the tears fell.
Lucas felt his heart sink. He felt like shit.
And wanted nothing more then pull her in his arms and reassure her he was home now.
But she wasn't ready.
...
Peyton Sawyer was relieved to free to live life again after her stay at the mental facility.
She opened the door to the small home. Put her suitcases down and went into the bedroom she felt the most pull too.
Peyton laid out on the bed and curled up into the sheets.
Taking deep breaths.
It smelled like Lucas. Just like she hoped.
