Prompts: Knees Buckling/Repeatedly Passing Out/Head Lolling
Clint/Bucky
Man, did this one get away from me! This is a Twilight crossover, but don't worry; no sparkly vampires here! I got this idea from my bestie, who wrote a Whumptober chapter on another fanfic site in which HYDRA kidnapped Alice, Edward, and Bella, and Fury sent Bucky and Clint to rescue them. I thought I'd continue with the aftermath of that. I have never read any of the Twilight books and have seen maybe 10 minutes of any of the movies, so all I know about Twilight, I know from her fanfics. Therefore, I dedicate this fanfic to her. Thanks, boo!
"In the list of weird missions I've been on, this one has to be the weirdest," Clint said as he kept an eye on the trio in the back of the van.
Bucky harrumphed. "Not even close for me."
"You mean you've had weirder ones than rescuing vampires from HYDRA?"
"I was in HYDRA, remember? Who do you think they sent on missions to capture victims for them?"
Clint was quiet after that. He didn't want to bring up any of Bucky's sordid past. He knew all about focusing on past deeds. That's one of the reasons Clint was glad Fury had thought about him when creating the Avengers. He'd hoped it would give him a chance to make up for all the wrong he'd done in his life. Clint turned around and checked on the Cullens. They looked healthier than they did before Bucky had trapped a bear for them. Clint shifted uncomfortably in his seat as he pictured that scene repeatedly in his mind. The pure power of his strength was on full display when his boyfriend carried in the bear like anyone else would bring in a sack of potatoes.
"You all right over there, doll?" Bucky smirked, knowing exactly what was causing Clint to squirm.
"Peachy keen, jellybean."
Bucky groaned. "Did you just call me jellybean?"
"Yepper depper. Good to know your hearing still works, old man."
"Side effect of the serum, remember?"
"Yep, it's part of your charm."
There was an explosion in front of the van, so Bucky swerved to avoid it, causing the van to veer off the side of the road, rolling until it landed upside down in a ditch. Bucky was stunned but alert enough to undo his seat belt. Turning his head, he saw Clint's head lolling back and forth. "Clint. Come on, be okay. Please be okay." As Bucky reached to release Clint's seat belt, he turned around to check on the trio in the back of the van. "Everyone okay back there?"
"We're fine," Edward answered. "What happened?"
"Appears we didn't take care of everyone back there." Once Bucky freed Clint from his seat belt, he pulled the archer close.
Edward nodded. "You rescued us. Please allow us to help you. The food you brought us has helped to restore our strength."
His sister nodded. "There are several soldiers behind the attack, but you will come out victorious."
"Bella, my love, how's your strength?"
"Let me check." She made some hand gestures (not unlike Wanda when she used her magic, Bucky noticed), and a shield appeared around the vehicle. "You'll be fine as long as you're in here. We can take care of the attackers."
Bucky was puzzled. "But won't you turn them?"
Edward held up Clint's quiver. "Not if we use the arrows. We can cause a diversion, draw their attention away from the van, then take care of them with these."
Alice nodded. "It will work. When they took us, they gave us tainted blood to weaken us. The prey you provided has helped to restore what strength and power we lost."
"They're close," Bucky said. "Do what you need to do, and thanks in advance." The three vampires nodded and disappeared with several of Clint's arrows from the van. Bucky turned his attention back to Clint. The archer was still unconscious and had blood running down his forehead. "Come on, Clint, wake up."
Finally, after a few minutes, Clint began to stir. "Ugh." Clint blinked several times to focus. "Hey."
Bucky smiled and breathed a sigh of relief. "Welcome back, doll." Bucky used his sleeve to wipe the blood from Clint's face.
"What happened?" Clint tried to sit up but fell back and grimaced.
"Flash grenade in front of the vehicle, and we ended up in a ditch. We didn't get rid of all the assholes. The vampires went to take care of them." Clint struggled to reach for the door. "Don't worry. There's some kind of force field around the van. We're safe for now."
Clint slowly nodded in understanding. "My baby?"
Bucky smiled. "She's in the back, safe and sound, along with most of your arrows. Oh, and I'm fine. Thanks for caring."
Clint snorted. "My bow doesn't have super soldier serum protecting her, so I have to worry about her."
"Are you injured anywhere else? And don't lie to me."
"Nah, just a slight headache."
Bucky carded his fingers through Clint's hair on the auspices of checking to make sure there were no hidden wounds on his head. "Good." Bucky lifted his head as if he heard something.
Clint tensed, knowing he wouldn't be of much use but determined to help how and where he could. "What?"
"Quinjet."
"What the hell? Did they know about the op?"
Bucky shook his head. "Fury was the only one, so guessing he got word to Stark. This may be the one time I'm glad we didn't check for trackers on the van." The two Avengers felt the back of the van dip down as Edward, Bella, and Alice climbed back into the van. "Good hunting?"
Edward answered. "Excellent hunting." He put the remaining arrows back into Clint's quiver. "They obviously knew nothing about vampires and thought they could outrun us."
"Even I know about vampire speed," Clint said. "Thanks, by the way."
"Thanks for the arrows," Alice said. "We weren't looking forward to having to set fire to anyone."
"Guys?" Bella asked. "Why is there a plane landing in the clearing?"
"That's the rest of our team, the Avengers," Bucky replied. "This was supposed to be a secret mission, but I guess Fury decided we needed help."
"Knock, knock. Not interrupting anything, are we?" Tony stuck his head through the window. "Oh, hello." Tony noticed the trio in the back. "Now I can get Fury off my ass and let him know you're okay." He turned his attention back to Clint and Bucky. "That was directed at them."
Bucky snorted. "Nice to know he was worried about us."
"We never worry about you, punk." Steve had shoved Tony out of the way.
The door on Clint's side was suddenly ripped away. "Birdie okay?"
Clint smiled. "Hey, big guy! Just a little headache, but I'll be fine." Clint slid across the seat and went to stand, but his knees buckled.
"Clint!" Bucky tried to reach across, but he wasn't quick enough. Hulk reached down and caught Clint before he hit the ground. "Thanks for catching him."
"Welcome. Taking him back to the Quinjet." Hulk disappeared, carrying Clint.
"Don't look at me. I'm not carrying you." Tony said as Bucky got out of the van.
"Wasn't expecting you to, tin man." As Bucky exited the vehicle, Nat and Thor were at the back of the van, checking on the vampires and leading them to the Quinjet.
As soon as Bucky got to the plane, he went directly to Clint, who was on a stretcher with a bandage across his forehead. "Just a small concussion," Bruce said, still recovering a bit from the switch from Hulk.
"Told you I was fine," Clint said.
"I'd believe it if you'd stop passing out," Bruce said.
"Passing out, doll?" Bucky sat next to the stretcher and ran his hand along Clint's arm. "Why do you have to be so fragile?"
"Bucky, it's just a concussion," Clint whined.
"I know. Just let me worry about my fella, okay?"
"How can I say no to that?"
"You can't." Bucky leaned down and kissed Clint. "I'm gonna clean my weapons, and then I'll be back."
"Okay." Clint closed his eyes and smiled as Bucky stood and went to one of the benches.
Steve sat down next to his childhood friend. "He'll be fine."
"I know," Bucky sighed as he took his guns apart, then wiped down his knives. "I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop. You know? Waiting for the world to tell me I can't have nice things and take him away from me."
The two super soldiers heard footsteps and looked up as Alice approached them. "I don't mean to intrude."
Steve smiled. "Don't worry. You're not."
"Good." She looked at Bucky. "James."
"Call me Bucky."
Alice nodded. "Bucky. I don't normally do this to people I've just met, but I wanted to let you know what my visions have shown me." She motioned to the spot next to Bucky. He nodded, and she sat down. "I know you're worried about Clint, but he's going to be okay, and the two of you will be together for quite a while."
From his time in HYDRA, not to mention the stories he remembered (with Steve's help) the stories his mom had passed down from her family, he knew to trust what Alice was telling him. "Thanks, Alice, that means a lot." She nodded and went back to sit with Edward and Bella.
"Feel better now?"
Bucky nodded. "For now."
Steve clasped his shoulder. "Good. Cause I hate it when you mope."
"Jerk." Bucky elbowed Steve in the ribs.
"Punk. Steve messed with Bucky's hair, and the two friends joked as Bucky' decided not to worry about Clint.
By the time the Quinjet landed in Forks, Clint had only passed out a couple more times, but Bruce deemed him okay to visit the Cullen family. Alice was the first one off the plane, ready to see Jasper again. The rest of the group followed, with Edward and Bella holding hands, and Clint and Bucky with Bucky's arm around Clint's waist, supporting him in case he decided to pass out again (you never knew with Clint). Several Cullen family members were standing on the large wraparound porch waiting for their arrival. The group walked up to the porch, and greetings were exchanged. "Thank you for bringing our children home," Carlisle said. "I've known Nicholas for a few years and knew if anyone could rescue them, it would be the Avengers."
"I'm glad we were able to help," Natasha, ever the diplomat, said. "The thanks should go to these two," she motioned to Clint and Bucky, who stepped up and stood next to her. "Clint Barton and James Barnes." She made the introductions.
As soon as she spoke, a loud yell came from inside the house. "Clint Barton, is that really you?"
"Emmett?" Clint looked, and a man Bucky's height with jet-black hair came running out of the house. "Emmett McCarty, you son of a bitch!" Everyone was stunned as Clint wrapped his arms around Emmett in a big bear hug. "I thought you were dead! Well, guess you kind of are now, assuming you're one of them."
"Yep, technically dead." Emmett stepped back and looked at Clint. "Guess this means you're no longer with the circus, then."
"Nope. Well, sort of, just a different kind, it seems." Clint laughed.
"Care to explain, Legolas?" Tony asked. "Inquiring minds want to know."
"Oh, uh, yeah." Clint nervously ran his hands through his hair and scratched the back of his neck. "When Barney and I ran away and joined the circus, Emmett kind of took us under his wing and kept an eye on us. After we were there a few years, one of the stunts went wrong, and Emmett was attacked by one of the bears. We were told he was so horribly mauled there was nothing left of him. Barney and I left shortly afterward." Clint turned back to Emmett. "So, guessing you died, but you didn't?"
A blonde-haired woman stepped onto the porch. "Monkey Man, care to introduce me to your friend?"
"Sure thing. Clint Barton, my wife, the woman who saved me, Rosalie Cullen."
Clint shook her hand. "Nice to meet you. Hey, Bucky!" Clint called Bucky over. "This is my boyfriend, Bucky Barnes." He never tired of admitting Bucky was his and admitting to himself that he was Bucky's.
"Well, now that we've had this lovely reunion, it's probably time for us to head back to New York," Tony said.
"Of course," Carlisle replied, shaking Tony's hand. "If there's anything we can ever do to help you, please don't hesitate to ask. We are in your debt." The Cullens went into the house, leaving the Avengers to return to the jet.
"Boyfriend, huh?" Bucky said, putting an arm around Clint's shoulder as they sat down.
"Yep," Clint replied.
"I like the sound of that."
"Me, too."
