Sayaka woke up the next morning and walked to the office to meet up with Mami. Sayaka entered the building and rode the elevator up to the top floor, where she walked into the office. Mami was sitting at her computer, drinking her favourite tea.

"Come in, Sayaka." Mami called out to Sayaka, who came in and sat down in her favourite chair. "So, how has the trial been going?" Mami asked.

"I've made progress. There is now reasonable doubt that Ms. Maggey Byrde was the person who blew up Mr. Grant Axelrod." Sayaka reported. Mami smiled.

"I knew you could handle a trial by yourself, Sayaka. I had faith that one day you would not need my assistance in court." Mami spoke with a happy tone.

"Working by myself is a lot harder than it looks… not having you by my side made me value your help more than I did before." Sayaka sounded a little sad.
"Even without me, you still managed to conduct a trial and create resonable doubt. That shows me something special," Mami began.

"Shows you what?" Sayaka asked. Mami took another sip of her tea.

"It shows me that you're a smart girl, Sayaka. You've applied my lessons to the courtroom, while also figuring out clues for yourself. This shows me that you do not need me to stand beside you in court. In this case, my test has been a resounding success." Mami spoke glowingly. Sayaka raised an eyebrow.

"Test? What test?" Sayaka was confused.

"I wanted to test you to see if you could handle a trial without my help. You have done that very well!" Mami congratulated her protege.

"So… were you actually tired yesterday?" Sayaka asked. Mami smiled.

"Yes, I was. But it was not the main reason I chose to skip yesterday's trial. It simply gave me the excuse I needed to conduct the test, and the test was successful. So I feel like I have accomplished my main goal." Mami answered.

"And that is…?" Sayaka tried to prod Mami into explaining herself more.

"I wanted to teach you how to be a capable, independent lawyer. Look at yourself now. You're a much smarter, more capable lawyer now than you were when you first walked into my office two years ago. Now, you are ready to be a lawyer by yourself." Mami spoke proudly. Sayaka had one more question.

"So… does this mean I can't work at your office anymore?" Sayaka asked. Mami giggled.

"Now why would I say that? Just because I accomplished my goal does not mean that I want to cast you aside. To me, you're more than just a student. You're a friend. I want to be that person you can talk to when you're feeling down, or when you need help with a case. I value our friendship, so kicking you out would hurt more than it would help." Mami reassured Sayaka that she would always be welcome at the office. Sayaka smiled sweetly.

"T-Thank you, Mami! I-I'll always be here when you need me!" Sayaka cried a little bit. Mami smiled.

"I'll always be here for you when you need me as well." Mami took a sip of her tea, smiling. Sayaka stood up and smiled at her mentor.

"You're a really good friend, Mami. You really are." Sayaka spoke with a lot of love. Mami beamed from ear to ear.
"You're an excellent friend too, Sayaka. I wish you luck in your investigation." Mami sent Sayaka off with a smile.

"Thanks a lot, Mami!" Sayaka waved goodbye as she left the office and took the bus back to El Bombi. She remembered the photo Mitch presented in court. She had three people to look for. The dreadlock man, the small lady, and the pink girl. Sayaka got off at the stop near Greg and Mitch's apartment, walking towards El Bombi with one goal in mind.

"I'm going to meet those other three workers. I wanna know more about the incident." Sayaka thought to herself as she walked in. She noticed the small brown haired lady at the reception desk. The lady greeted her warmly.

"Ah, you must be Sayaka Miki." The lady smiled.

"Y-Yeah! How'd you know me?" Sayaka asked, surprised.

"Maggey and Mitchell told me all about you. They say you're an excellent lawyer." The lady bowed. "I am a friend of theirs. My name is Rae Dius." Rae introduced herself.
"Okay, Ms. Dius. What was your account of the events that played out on the night of the murder?" Sayaka asked a straightforward question.

"The day of the murder, I was involved in a staff meeting. Maggey was talking about a promotion she was due to receive the following day. Most of us were very happy for her. She was a sweet, loving individual who greatly valued the people around her. The only person who was not happy about the promotion was the new girl. Her name was Karina McLaurin. She had a very angry look in her eyes upon hearing of the promotion. I could tell she wanted the meeting to be over as soon as possible. When the meeting ended, she was the first to leave. I noticed her glaring at Axelrod before leaving the building." Rae explained her account of the events before the murder. Sayaka nodded.

"That story sounds consistent with the one Mitch told me." Sayaka responded. Rae nodded.

"I assure you, a similar account will emerge from everyone except Karina herself." Rae gave Sayaka a tip before the phone at her desk rang. "Oh dear, I must go. A call must be taken. I wish you luck in your investigation, Sayaka Miki." Rae sent Sayaka off with a smile as she took her call. Sayaka walked over to a factory directory. She noticed a set of stairs that led to an upper hallway. When she climbed up the stairs, the hallway was teeming with office workers. Sayaka followed the flow of traffic before turning the corner and noticing a wide door. She opened the door and entered a cafeteria, where there were a bunch of tables, a kitchen in the back, and a clock. Occupying one of the tables was the suspicious girl with pink and orange hair. She wore a dark red hoodie, with the zipper down to reveal a pink bra and thin magenta leggings that revealed the shape of her thighs. She sat at the table with her right leg crossed and her left foot on the table. Sayaka walked up to her.

"Excuse me, would you happen to be Miss Karina McLaurin?" Sayaka asked. Karina shrugged.

"Yeah. What's your deal, lawyer?" Karina didn't even turn to look at Sayaka's badge. She just recognized her voice.

"I'm here to obtain your account of the incident, Miss McLaurin." Sayaka spoke sternly. "Just tell me what happened the day of the murder." Sayaka took out her notepad.

"Alright. I'll tell ya what happened." Karina began. "It was just one of those staff mettings. The factory division does one of these every week. That bitch Maggey kept rambling on about some promotion she was supposed to get. I hated listening to her flap her lips about it. Everyone was happy for her. I couldn't care less. The meeting ended and I went about my usual business of assembling packs of dynamite. The next day, I found out Axelrod died. I guess that was the promotion Maggey spoke of. She killed Axelrod to take his position, along with all his money." Karina spoke of her account. Sayaka found some of it hard to believe.
"Why would you need to assemble packs of dynamite when there are machines that do it automatically?" Sayaka asked.

"The machines don't fill the canisters with gunpowder, or wrap it all up neatly with black tape." Karina snapped, pointing at Sayaka and glaring at her with her hazel eyes.
"Also, how are you sure Maggey killed Axelrod? Were you there when the explosion happened?" Sayaka asked another question. Karina grimaced.

"No, dipshit. I went home. I know Maggey did it because of that promotion she mentioned. Why else would she talk about it before it actually happened?" Karina spoke sharply. "God… you lawyers are all so nosy!" Karina groned as she left the room. Sayaka wrote down notes about Karina's account and her lack of cooperation. She left the cafeteria to return to the hallway. Among the sea of office workers, there was a taller guy with dreadlocks. He seemed to be the last person left in Mitch's photo.

"Ummm excuse me sir, do you work here?" Sayaka asked. The dreadlocked man turned around and smiled.
"Yeah. I work here. Nice suit you got there!" The man seemed to be quite friendly.

"T-Thanks. I'm a lawyer. Could you perhaps give me your account of what happened the day of the murder?" Sayaka asked.
"Straight to business, huh? Where's the greeting?" The man joked.
"Oh, right. S-Sorry about my lack of manners. I'm Sayaka Miki. I'm representing Ms. Maggey Byrde in court." Sayaka introduced herself. The man smiled.

"So you're the lawyer, huh? I'm DeAnthony Hunter. I clean up the factory at the end of the day." DeAnthony explained his position. "I was part of the weekly staff meeting, with Maggey, Mitch, Rae, and Karina. Maggey had a promotion lined up, courtesy of Mr. Grant Axelrod himself. Man, she was excited. I've never seen her so happy. The rest of us were happy for her too, but Karina wasn't. Something was clearly bugging her, so after the meeting, I wanted to ask her what was wrong. She left before I got the chance. She was out of there faster than a speeding bullet. Next thing I know, the office blew up, and here we are." DeAnthony explained his account. It mostly lined up with the other staff members, except for Karina of course.
"That sounds consistent with everyone else's accounts… except for Karina herself. She thinks the promotion maggey was due for was a subtle hint that she was going to blow up Axelrod." Sayaka explained what she heard from Karina. DeAnthony raised an eyebrow.

"That is a hall of fame reach, girl." DeAnthony had a puzzled look on his face. "I don't know how she ame up with that." DeAnthony shook his head.

"I don't get it either. She seemed so adamant about it too." Sayaka then took another set of notes in her pad.

"I wish I could help more but that's about all the insight I have." DeAnthony spoke sadly. Sayaka nodded.

"I understand. Thank you for your help, Mr. Hunter." Sayaka bowed.

"Anytime, lawyer! A friend of Maggey is a friend of mine." DeAnthony waved goodbye as he followed the sea of office workers. Sayaka had a thought.

"I should probably re-check the assembly line. If Karina's statement is true, then that could harm my case…" Sayaka went back to check the assembly line. Sure enough, Karina lied. The assembly line did everything but fill the sticks with gunpowder, right down to taping all the dynamite together. Sayaka made a note and took a video of the assembly line. The filling of the stick could be damning evidence against Karina for when she takes the stand. Sayaka then left the factory and returned to the court. She had a trial to conduct… and a security guard to save.
