-Wednesday, 12:35 p.m., UA Cafeteria-
"You know, Lunch Rush's food is good, but your mom's cooking still takes the cake," Ryuko let out a sigh as the others chowed down.
"You keep teasing it but don't ever bring any in to share," Uraraka pouted a little, drawing laughs from Ryuko and Izuku.
Iida sat there quietly, looking down at his food. Sure, he was studious, but Ryuko knew something was up.
"Something's got you really messed up, Iida. You've been pretty distant all day," Matoi spoke out, shaking the speedster a little.
"If you're speaking up because of my brother, you don't need to worry. Obviously it's still a lot to deal with," Iida admitted before putting on a smile.
"But, trust me. I'll be fine."
That set off alarm bells for the Kamui Wielder. Tone, look, attitude. It was the same thing when Izuku tried to talk to him.
Something needed to be done about this. But not here. Ryuko didn't want to call him out in front of everyone. She decided to wait, until the right time would come.
"Why don't you guys finally come to my place to study and you can have his mom's godly cooking? O-of course, if that's okay with you, Izuku," Ryuko stammered to change the subject.
"Yeah, I think it'll be fine," Izuku chimed in. "I'd just need to tell my mom we'll be having extra guests. Plus, it doesn't hurt to be around others."
The boy's candid smile warmed Ochako's heart. This was too sweet.
"Thanks guys!" Uraraka responded.
"I'd love to, but I won't be able to attend tonight. I'll be checking up on my brother after classes. I apologize for skipping our session," Tenya lowered his head as he turned down the offer.
"It's no trouble, Iida. Hope everything works out for him," Izuku gave his condolences.
"Yeah, let us know how he's doing too!" Ochako pitched in.
Iida only nodded in response, his face remaining emotionless. This did not go unnoticed by Matoi, who still kept a close eye on him. Whatever she was going to do, she needed to do it as soon as possible.

The four soon finished their lunches and walked back to the classroom with time to spare. Ryuko was the first to reach the entrance and found that nobody, well except for the sleeping Aizawa, was there yet. This was her chance.
"Looks like Aizawa's still sleeping," she said while peeking in the doorway.
"Ohh, cool! I've never been to class early!" Ochako whispered excitedly.
Ryuko stepped to the side and let Izuku and Ochako walk through. She then extended her hand and tugged on Tenya's sleeve.
"Iida, think I can get a minute with you real quick?"
"Huh? Umm, sure," he responded.
"Mhm. Izuku, Uraraka! We'll be right back. I just need to talk to Iida about something."
"Oh, okay!" Uraraka hopped over to her seat and sat down.
Midoriya looked at Matoi with a certain expression on his face. She knew that he was concerned, possibly about the whole Iida situation. Ryuko nodded, giving him reassurance that she was going to deal with this. Izuku reciprocated as he understood what her next course of action would be. He turned around and headed to Uraraka's desk to hang out until class started.
The red streaked girl pulled Iida down the hall and around the corner so that they were far enough from anyone that would walk by. Once they stopped, she inhaled through her nose and breathed out.
"So, what's up, Iida? I know you're sad about what happened to your brother. But that look in your eyes was starting to worry me. You got something else going on?" she asked while placing her hands on her waist.
"Matoi, I've already told Midoriya that I'm alright. So if he sent you make sure, then I would have to ask if-"
"No! No no no, that's not why I called ya over here, speedy," Ryuko interrupted, catching the spectacle teen off guard.
"Well… Why did you ask for me then?"
Ryuko took a breath and stared straight at her classmate. Just by a look, she could tell that he was practically drowning in his thoughts. All he was probably thinking about was what happened to his brother. Anything else outside of that would be secondary.
"Look, Iida… I understand what you're going through. What happened to your brother was… awful. And I get trying to keep up the act. To make it so no one around you can see how you're really feeling. That maybe if you try to "act" fine, then you'll end up being fine later," Ryuko said while Iida looked down to his feet.
"There's nothing wrong Matoi. I'm not pretending or putting on an act. My brother is in the hospital because of some murderous villain who's known for killing heroes. And I have to grapple with the fact that Ingenium, MY older brother, may never ever be a hero again!" Iida exclaimed, catching Matoi off guard.
"Iid-"
"I appreciate your efforts, but forgive me if I say that you have absolutely no idea what I'm going through."
"Look, I-"
"I'm done discussing this, Matoi. Good day," Iida said, turning away while leaving his classmate behind.
"My dad died."
That response caused Iida to stop where he was, turning back to Matoi. Her hair shrouded her eyes, her attention now focused on the ground.
"I-um, I'm sorry. I didn't know-"
"It's fine, you didn't know. Actually, to tell you the truth, you're the first person I've told besides Izuku," Ryuko said, now having Tenya's attention.
"Sorry about that, by the way. I didn't want to have to say it, but you weren't giving me much of a choice," she apologized. Tenya remained silent, but she knew that he was listening.
"It happened months ago, before I went to Honnōji. Hell, it was the main reason I was there to begin with. All I wanted was answers – who killed my dad, yadda yadda yadda. To be honest, all that "revenge" stuff was mostly hot air."
Ryuko looked around and walked to the nearest wall to lean on. She continued with her explanation.
"To tell you the truth, the entire time I was there, I was hurting beyond belief. All the fighting and the yelling was just me trying not to do the one thing I was supposed to do."
"And what was that?" Iida asked.
Ryuko turned to her friend, eyes looking somewhat hollow.
"Process. My father just died and the first thing I did was not process. Like, what was gonna happen if I ACTUALLY got revenge? Just sit back and wait for what happens next? Nah, I had to finally confront what happened to me and deal with it. Alone."
Ryuko looked down to Senkestu, who was doing his best to not comment. This was a very sensitive topic and the last thing he needed to do was butt in.
"But I guess fate had other plans, huh? I met Mako, then along the way I met Senkestu. And don't get me started on Mako's family. Hehehehe, hah damn pervs," Ryuko continued.
Iida looked a little befuddled by Ryuko's sudden comment on "pervs", but he continued to listen regardless.
"They made it easier to cope with what happened. They kept my mind at ease, gave me an escape from everything going on. I had a chance to process, little by little. Turns out having people around you at your lowest… makes it easier."
"What about now?"
Ryuko did a small double-take, surprised by Iida's question.
"How are you now? Did it stop, that feeling?" Iida asked.
Ryuko thought about it for a moment, mulled over Tenya's question, which sounded more like a request.
"Honestly? No, it doesn't go away. That feeling is something we have to live with," Ryuko answered, causing her classmate to deflate a bit, not really liking her answer.
"But…" Iida looked back to Matoi as she stood from her current spot.
"Handling it alone isn't the way to go. You've got people who wanna help, Iida. I'm not gonna ask you to spill your guts or anything. I'm just saying that when you feel like you're about to crack, know that we'll be right there ready to pick you up," Ryuko concluded, walking past Tenya, who was standing as stiff as a statue.
"I'll tell Aizawa you're running a little late, okay? Just… Take a minute to think."
With that, Ryuko left Tenya in the hallway, alone with his thoughts. Now that he was alone, Iida leaned toward the wall and slid down slowly into a sitting position. Tears started to build and slowly fell down his face.
"She's right. I know she's right. But…"
Iida grabbed a fistful of his sleeve, trying to gain a small semblance of control.
"This feeling, this BURNING feeling in my chest. It won't go away! It keeps getting hotter and hotter and I can't make it stop!"
Tenya thought back to his brother, the pillar of his belief in hero society. He was a prime example of what a hero was meant to be. That very hero was now in the hospital, with machines attached all around his body, clinging to life.
"Tensei…please! I need you, now more than ever. How do I manage this! What can I do! And why…"
"Why did it feel like Matoi was saying something you would say?"

-5 p.m., U-A Staff Meeting-
Everyone from the hero course faculty filed into the staff meeting room. What they had to discuss that evening was serious enough that even Detective Tsukauchi showed up.
"Is everyone here?" Yamada asked.
"Appears so," Shota answered, his eyes drooping a bit, but he still seemed to be focused.
"Alright then, let's get started," Nezu hopped out of Aizawa's cloth bindings and into his own seat at the head of the table.
"I was planning to have this sooner, but with Aizawa and Thirteen's injuries and the festival, it was too much to pull you all together. But to get to the point, this is a briefing on the Life Fibers and Honnōji Academy."
"So in a roundabout way, you're saying Matoi is somehow involved in this?" Shota asked while the other teachers sat back and listened.
"In a way, yes," Nezu acknowledged. "Everyone here knows that Ryuko Matoi's powers mainly derive from her Kamui, Senketsu. Senketsu is a sentient being as far as we know, and is directly able to communicate with the girl. But outside of Senketsu, all the other Life Fibers pose a grave risk to our entire world."
"What!?" Yagi shouted. "What do you mean?"
"Yeah, what's up about that? We let Satsuki Kiryuin and one of her elites in with some of those students. Not very smart if they're supposed to be an enemy," Present Mic stated.
"I thought Life Fiber experiments had been discontinued long ago. But, our informant at Honnōji Academy said otherwise. They're parasitic in nature. From the intel we've gathered on the technology recorded by their information chairman at the event with nanobots, we see that they were gauging us in every event of the festival," Nezu said calmly.
"And why are you so relaxed?" Cementoss asked. "If they were collecting data on us, that's concerning. Are they going to try and take down UA and other heroes in their quest to destroy us? And what about these Life Fiber experiments that you thought were discontinued?"
Cementoss usually remained far more collected, but now he was concerned. Nezu sighed and twiddled his thumbs.
"I'm willing to divert momentarily before we return to the topic at hand."
"Everyone knows that I'm the only known animal with a Quirk. One of the experiments that humans ran on me was exposing me to Life Fibers. I'm not exactly sure when I developed my Quirk, but one of my most vivid memories is remembering they seemed alive. Not too long after that day, my Quirk seemingly emerged, coincident or not."
The room became deadly silent. Thirteen was perhaps the most shocked while Midnight looked down at the table with a concerned expression.
"That's part of why I went to the Tokyo Fashion Show last weekend," Midnight started. "We found out through Detective Tsukauchi, off the record by the way," Nemuri spoke in a lowered voice, drawing a nod from the detective.
"The model that Mina Ashido got backstage passes to see was Ichiro Tanaka. He's employed almost exclusively by Revocs, the company owned and run by Satsuki Kiryuin's mother, Ragyo Kiryuin. We found out that her father, Soichiro Kiryuin, died in some sort of car accident years ago."
"I don't understand how that's relevant," Cementoss looked to his left.
"With Life Fibers being living parasites from everything I've been briefed on and Tanaka's connection, we wondered if Life Fibers could come to take the form of a living person. At least for now, I'm somewhat at ease that the young model isn't a concern. But his lack of background is concerning."
"We looked into Tanaka and did some under the radar investigating into the possibility of the Kiryuins having a hand in the USJ attack, given the connection to Matoi and Honnōji Academy. With the USJ, we found no credible links that the Kiryuin family or Honnōji Academy had any involvement," Tsukauchi declared, drawing a small sigh from All Might and Nezu.
"However, we're at a loss for the young man's lack of background. It's a matter I can't delve into too deeply, but we're looking into him more. So he's not in the clear just yet, but you didn't hear that from me."
The detective relaxed his posture and gave the floor back to Nezu.
"The reason we even let Honnōji Academy into the festival was to allow for counter-intelligence," Nezu explained, drawing curious glances from the rest of the staff.
"We've never seen their advanced technology before, and we ended up finding out how some of their data systems and nanotechnology works. On top of that, we were able to collect five files of data from various points in the day: One each from the first two events, and three of the fights in the one-on-one matches."
"Dang! He was thinking seven steps ahead of those wackos!" Mic whispered to Eraserhead, who nodded casually.
"All of this leads to one thing," All Might spoke up. "We really need to put a priority on making sure Young Matoi and the heroes are ready to counter the threat while keeping her focused on the hero path ahead of her. She's not just a tool to be used and tossed aside. Her and her Kamui have the potential to be fantastic heroes if they continue on their current trajectory."
"Agreed," Aizawa noted, shocking everyone.
"She's not the typical UA first year. She's a little older than some of her classmates, but not significantly. Her fighting experience leads to her thinking in a way that has helped her out of a number of situations thrown her way already. The biggest thing is keeping her focused on the task ahead and she'll succeed as a hero."
"Well said, Aizawa," Yagi smiled, while Midnight nodded along.
"I couldn't agree more," she added.
"With the help of an inside source, we've begun taking measures to identify and remove any Life Fibers from all hero uniforms and costumes under our roof. But there's one more thing of vital importance that you all need to know. None of the students or any other staff are to know about this."
Everyone exchanged curious glances as a digitized image popped up in the center of the room.
"No way!" Nemuri gasped.
"This is…" Cementoss shook.
"Oh geez!" Yamada quivered.
"We are on the clock to put a stop to all of this," Nezu warned. "I hope you all will be ready when the time comes."

-5 p.m., Danchi-
"You weren't kidding, Matoi! Your place is pretty spacious for just you."
Uraraka stared around the apartment unit that belonged to Ryuko. It was such a nice place for just one person!
"Although it's still pretty barren," Matoi laughed.
"But you have this whole place to yourself! And it's air conditioned!"
Before anyone could ask further, the trio's stomachs grumbled, with everyone knowing it'd been a while since lunch.
"My mom should hopefully be done with dinner soon. I told her we'd have an extra guest, so we'll have plenty to eat."
Everyone nodded and went downstairs, with Izuku opening the door to the Midoriya household.
"Hey mom! We're home!"
"Hi, honey!" Inko called out from the kitchen. "Did you bring Ryuko and your other friend with you?"
"Of course. Let me introduce you," the boy said as the three walked in.
Inko was stunned once she saw Ochako. It was another girl. A cute one no less and she was with Izuku and Ryuko.
"Mom, this is Ochako Uraraka. She's one of our friends from class," Izuku explained.
"It's nice to meet you, Mrs. Midoriya," Ochako greeted with a bow.
Inko remained quiet for a moment but a soft smile quickly formed.
'My Izuku's growing up faster than I thought!'
"Thank you, Uraraka," Inko responded before the timer on the microwave went off.
"Oops! I bet you kids are hungry! Dinner is about ready and I made extra!" Inko walked back into the kitchen as Ochako's mouth started to water from the scents coming from a few feet away.
"If it tastes as good as it smells, I may never leave," Ochako mumbled, making her friends laugh.
"Get in line, Uraraka. I called dibs on having the meals when I first came here," Ryuko jokingly retorted and lightly nudged the girl.
..~~~HLK~~~..
"Matoi, you're going to have to fight me if you're going to hog this food to yourself," Ochako solidified her position as she continued eating. "I don't get to eat food like this because I live by myself."
Inko prepared Curry on Rice for the gang, a relatively simple dish since they still needed to study. But it still tasted godly to the two girls.
"Now, now, settle down. You're both too kind," Inko laughed as both Ochako and Ryuko stared at one another.
"So Uraraka, how did you meet Izuku?"
'Oh crap!' Midoriya panicked.
"Huh. Well… It was back at the entrance exams! He saved me from one of those zero-pointer robots the school used during the sports festival by punching it really hard."
"Really now?" Inko asked with intrigue in her eyes.
"Yeah! I was trapped under some debris with everyone running away and he risked not getting any points… all just for me."
Uraraka's smile warmed Inko's heart, to the point water was leaking onto the floor from the mama bear's eyes.
"Mom!" Izuku cried out while getting paper towels to dab her eyes.
Ryuko and Ochako laughed as they watched the two Midoriya's. Though, the red streaked girl started to have a different sentiment.
"Yep. That's Izuku, alright. I can't think of a time where he wasn't sticking his neck out for me through all these years!" she added.
"Oh yeah. You've known him for a long time, right?" The brunette recalled.
"Yep! Don't you remember? Izuku and I have known each other since we were kids."
Without knowing it, Ryuko said that rather proudly. Inko perked up upon hearing this while Ochako sat and twiddled her thumbs. For some reason, she started to feel a competitive spirit come to surface.
"That's so cool, guys. I… I want that kind of friendship too! Izuku, we should hang out sometime!" She said in high spirits.
'Wait, did she just call him by his first name?' Inko's eyes widened out of surprise.
"Oh! Well-"
"W-We'll have to check our schedule for free time since Izuku and I do a hefty amount of training after school," Ryuko cut Izuku off.
"H-Huh?! Oh, right! Of course! The three of us! I meant that!" Ochako began to blush, realizing that she tried to make reservations for only herself and Izuku.
"Really? Er- I mean, yeah! Us three! And Iida too!" Ryuko also started to blush. It had just come to her that she tried to hog Izuku to herself.
Inko blinked twice, making sure she heard this discourse correctly.
"Hopefully Iida will come around to hang out with us again. It wouldn't be the same without him here," Izuku carried on the conversation without batting an eye.
The maternal figure glanced at her son before returning it to the two girls that nodded with a collective "Mhm!" They weren't even making eye contact with anyone.
'I sense a storm approaching…' Inko thought cautiously.
'Were… Were they just fighting over me? No. There's no way. Don't give yourself wishful thinking,' Izuku shook his head and only focused on eating.
..~~~HLK~~~..
Dinner was pretty quiet for a bit, but Inko was able to keep the conversation going. Izuku was able to pick up on it right after and everything returned to normal for everyone.
Afterwards, they helped Inko clean up before departing to Ryuko's apartment above. The trio sat themselves in the living room and around the futon table. Backpacks and school supplies were scattered around as they began going over schoolwork. While doing so, the empty side of the table brought something up to the teens.
"So… how do you guys think Iida is doing?" Uraraka brought up and set down her pencil.
Izuku and Ryuko perked up. The boy looked to the Kamui wielder since she was the only one that spoke with Tenya privately. She thought over her decision and figured it would be fine. They were all friends and Ochako really wanted the best for him. Plus, they were nearly done with their studies for the night.
"I basically told him that he could come talk to us whenever he wants. Just so he knew that he didn't have to deal with this alone. I pulled him aside to put that in his head. 'Cuz we all know he probably would have just nodded off if we all tried to say something," Ryuko said, which both Izuku and Ochako nodded.
"Thankfully that eased him up a bit. He looked like he was considering what I told him. That's about it."
"That's good. I hope he'll be okay. I'd hate for it to get in the way of his internship," Ochako said while twiddling with her pencil.
"Iida's one of the most level-headed people in our class. I'm sure he'll keep it together," Izuku reassured her.
"That's why you picked him to be Class Rep, right?" Ryuko asked with a smile.
"Yeah," he smiled back.
"Y'know, I still think you should have taken the job. Or be up there with him," The Kamui wielder lifted her fist to his shoulder and nudged him.
"Thank you, but I couldn't."
"She's right, Izuku. I… was actually one of the people that voted for you," Ochako spoke, but her voice became more timid near the end of her sentence. This was something that people could say normally without any problems. But in Ochako's case, it made her heart tremble.
"Really? T-Thank you, Ochako," The greenette also began to blush.
Ryuko sat with an irritating itch in her side. She would have been happy to see this progression, but it was starting to drive her crazy! She was the third wheel here! Something in her chest told her that she had to do something. And before her brain could get a word in…
"Whoa, look at the time! We really went at it tonight," Ryuko said rather loudly and took a look at her phone that read 11:00 p.m.
"Huh?" Ochako opened up her flip phone to check the time too. "Oh wow! We really did! I'd better get ready and head back to my apartment."
"We can walk you home, Ochako. You can never be too safe when walking out there at night," Izuku proposed.
"Mhm, sure thing!"
The two began to pack up their utensils while Ryuko sat. Not only because she didn't need to, but also because she was in awe over what just happened. It felt like she wasn't even in control of what she was doing.
Not too long after, the trio walked down to Izuku's apartment to give Inko the heads up.
"Mom, we're heading out to walk Ochako home. I'll be back in an hour!"
"Oh! Wait-Wait! Before you guys go! Here's something for you on the way!" Inko handed Ochako a neatly wrapped stack of Bento boxes.
"You're a bit further away, so I wanted to pack these for you in case you couldn't visit again," she said with the brightest smile on her face.
Ochako's heart filled with warmth faster than a boiler. Everything about that was so pure; Inko's smile, and her offering Bento boxes because she understood Ochako's situation. Her eyes welled up before bursting.
"WAAAAAAAAAA! THANK YOU MRS. MIDORIYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
Her tears hosed down the entire hallway before everyone calmed her down.
"Haha! It's nothing! And please, call me Inko!" she spoke while wiping the brunette's eyes with a tissue.
..~~~HLK~~~..
And just like that, the teens escorted Uraraka back to her apartment. They went the extra mile and accompanied her on the train to her last stop.
"Tonight was really fun, guys. Thank you so much for inviting me! We should do this again!" Uraraka chirped with glee.
"Yeah, we should!" Midoriya responded.
"Totally! Izuku will probably have to be the one to tell you. 'Cuz I'd probably forget," Matoi chuckled.
"I'll let you guys know ahead of time. Good night!" Uraraka said one last time before she walked the rest of the way back to her apartment.
Izuku and Ryuko for the time being waited for the next train to take them home. When they were finally on their way back, Ryuko had a moment to reflect on the series of events that happened during Ochako's stay.
'What the hell's been up with me today? Things have been super weird. I've been saying things out of the blue. It's like I didn't even think about it. It just keeps happening every time I… I see them.'
Instances of when things were getting nice and tender between her two friends flashed in Ryuko's head.
'Am I jealous?'
The red streaked girl glanced at Izuku, who was looking at his phone, before turning away. A small red hue adorned her face as she clutched at her chest.
'No. There's no way! Me and Izuku? Would he…?'
Ryuko shook her head, erasing the thought. This feeling in her center, she didn't like it. She had to do something about it quickly.
"So, after evaluating your performance during tonight's first hang out; What do you decipher will be the time you ask Uraraka out?"
"HUH?!" Izuku nearly sprung up from his seat upon hearing that question. "W-W-W-Why would you even ask that?! Why did you ask it like that?!"
"I was trying to do an impression of you!" Ryuko laughed out loud and laid down on the seats.
"I don't talk like that at all!"
"You totally would!"
"No, I wouldn't!" Izuku pouted once he started to calm down. "You didn't even say all of that correctly…"
"HA! So you know the correct way of saying it!" Ryuko sat back up with a cheeky grin and pointed at Izuku. She then relaxed on the seat again and leaned her head back.
"I don't know why you don't just go for it already. You're clearly into her!"
"S-Shut up! I'm still figuring things out!" Izuku tugged on his bangs to shield his blush. "I'd like to see you this confident when one day you have a crush on someone!"
The air went dead silent between the two. While Ryuko obviously would be stunted for an answer, Izuku was strangely quiet when he asked this. His chest felt hollow, creating a sense of unease inside of him. Before he knew it…
"Do you… have a crush on anyone?"
The greenette's cheeks tinted a light pink before he turned to face Ryuko. She too was blushing, but didn't make eye contact with him before shaking her head.
"Nah. I don't. I've got too much to think about before settling with that," she said with a smile.
"Oh. Right, right," Izuku chuckled lightly. "It's probably too early to be thinking about it. Which means… it's too early for you to keep teasing me about it," he said that last bit with some playful snark to lighten the mood.
"Pff, in your dreams. No way I'm giving that up," Ryuko stuck her tongue out at him.
"Haha, I didn't think so," Izuku said as the discussion ended. Having nothing else to talk about, they decided to just enjoy the peaceful ride back to Danchi.
Izuku turned away from Ryuko since he was still a bit flustered. But, he was smiling. All of the feeling he had in his chest had completely washed away.
To Be Continued…
Buckichamp A/N: Thank you all for being so understanding with the current schedule we have. If you're looking for the dates through Chapter 36, check the top of Chapter 30.
I read all the reviews (no, Ochako is going to call Izuku by his first name. I'll let Aduubo and PK handle that explanation as to why), and I like some of your theories (no further comment there), though don't worry. We have plans, and some of those plans involve things you guys aren't gonna suspect. These internships are gonna be very interesting.
Aduubo A/N: In Japanese tradition, calling someone by their first name is a sign of the two growing closer to one another.
Buckichamp: I think Chapter 33 is a little on the shorter side, but we spoiled you all with extremely long chapters during the last arc. You'll get the big ones in due time.
Remember: It pays to read closely and between the lines and we may or may not use certain things down the road. You never know.
Onto the reviews!
"Were those last two lines from the Honnōji crew? Because that implies they get caught dead smack in the middle of the Hosu incident, and are caught completely flat-footed when they end up facing the Nomus that Tomura unleashes on the city at the time.
I gotta say, I sure hope that's the case, as it would clue Satsuki in on the fact that she isn't quite the big fish that she thinks she is in the MHA verse. And that there are others who lurk in the shadows, all with their own plans in the works, plans that can and will very well threaten to upend her own goals like a spilled wine glass…"
