"Oh, I can handle the rejection just fine!" He chuckled, "Bella and I had already broken up, and I handled that pretty well!"
"So if you had broken up already, why the hell did you propose to her?" I asked.
"That's my personal decision," he said.
"Oh! So now you care about keeping something personal or private," I shook my head.
"Anyway, so I can handle the rejection pretty well," he said, "It's you that I can't handle. I won't be able to tolerate that you are trying to take away something that belongs to just me, not to you!"
"First, Bella doesn't belong to you. She has made it pretty clear today! And second, I told you, there was absolutely nothing between us."
"Well, you were spending a lot of time together there..." he said, "But let's assume that everything was just a misunderstanding and there wasn't anything between the two of you," he said, "Then, can you promise me something?"
"What?" I asked.
"Considering the mess we've," he said, "I want you to promise me that you'll stay away from Bella. That's the least you can do to save me from further embarrassment."
I looked at him with disbelief. Was he always like this or was it just the after-effects of the rejection?
"I'm not going to promise anything to you," I said.
"Isn't there a thing like a 'bro code'? Aren't you aware of that?" He said incredulously, "Even friends follow that! And you're my fucking twin brother! This is the least you should do for me!"
"I'm not going to do that," I said, "You can do whatever the fuck you want to stop me!"
"C'mon Edward..." Mom said, "Now don't make this worse than it already is! Just make a promise to him and let's end this matter here! I can't see you both fighting like this!"
"No, I'm not going to do that," I said.
